Nicholi Rasputin (Complete [Finally])Player's Name: Katie E-mail: luminous_muse@yahoo.com Other Means of Contact: AIM, Ezinbox..
Name: Nicholi Douglas Rasputin Nickname(s): Nic, Niki (only by mother and maybe sisters in teasing and only if ya have a death wish!), ‘Sputin (only if you wanna get hurt), Nicholas (by his mother sometimes) Codename/Alias: Fissure Team Affiliation: X-Men School: Xavier Institute for Higher Learning Legal Status: No criminal Record Race: Mutant (human) Place of Birth: Chicago, IL Marital Status: Single Gender: Male Age: 18 Birthday: February 13 Hair: Light Brown Eyes: Dark Brown
Mother: Kitty Pryde (Mutant) Father: Piotr Rasputin (Mutant, presumed deceased) Other Important Relatives: Julia Rasputin (Older Sister, 20), Tobe Pryde (Younger Sister, 16), Illyana Rasputin (Aunt, deceased), Mikhail Rasputin (Uncle, presumed dead), Peter Jr. (older half brother, not known to the family as he lives in the Savage Land),
Physical Description: Nic likes to wear his light brown hair a bit spiky or goes for that just-got-out-of-bed look suits him (for the moment). He tends to go from rocker to polo as it suits him. Like his sisters, he knows how to dress for any occasion and often adds his own spin to things. It comes from being around girls so much.
He has a nice mid-ranged voice that many girls have said to have a sexy even velvet quality to it. All warm and smooth. He has an almost cat-like grace to his movements, having found his own center of balance from a young age. He may not look as muscular as his father, but his build is mostly muscle that he keeps well toned to make up for the comparisons.
Mutant Powers: Nicholi has the ability to manipulate the soils, minerals, rocks, ores, metals, etc. of the earth. However, he can only manipulate that which he has studied extensively (usually about a month or even just two-three weeks is adequate enough if he's really getting into the study). Once he knows what he’s dealing with he can use this knowledge to manipulate it. He can use it to create golems or armor, so far. He can also make the ground under an opponent unstable and make it simulate an earthquake. This is only possible, once again, if he knows the feeling of the lay of the area (so to speak). He can feel it and figure out what he's dealing with most of the time, but his studies with the ground layout is what drives him. Thank goodness for his childhood interest! Since he has been studying stuff like this since he was little, he usually only needs about an hour of study each day of the different types of earth strata to help keep his powers as offensively and defensively sharp as possible.
The only limit to his powers are his imagination and the amount of energy it takes to manipulate the different types of earth (so to speak). That and if he is introduced to an area of ground that he hasn't studied extensively. Say that he's plopped down in Hawaii and he hasn't had a chance to study a sample of the ground there. Since he hasn't had many opportunities to study how volcanic rock interacts with regular rock, then he would be at a disadvantage. He could try to manipulate it, but it would be like a toddler trying to maneuver in a maze. He'd be slow, clumsy and not very quick.
He can use his martial arts training to sense opponents' moves before trying to use his powers to upset the earth underneath his opponent to offset him. He can sense from the ground when the opponent is about to kick before he actually does because he can sense from the ground the fact that his opponent is putting most of his weight on his back or front foot before executing the kick. It is stuff like that that helps him in a fight and that he uses his power to help himself.
((More on his powers will come as I start playing him.))
Skills: Like his sisters, Nicholi has studied art from a very young age from his father. Unlike his older sister, though, he continued his studies, growing quite well. He is quite good at drawing and fairly good at painting and sculpting. He loves to do abstract art, often adding some unusual media to the mix. Sculpting and pottery is the easiest for him. It gives him a chance to practice his power in combination with his art. It also is a way for him to make a little money on the side by selling it at flea markets at times.
Nicholi has studied with Julia and Tobe in various weapons mastery. He seems to be at home with most weapons, having handled axes, scimitars, katanas, and the staff. He even has handled a broadsword. He likes to fight with Julia, often finding it to be a good way to work any stress out. Like Julia, he took fencing classes at school as well.
Nic is adept at the computer. He isn’t quite as good as Tobe or his mother, but he does know the basics pretty well and a few other things.
He has also studied a few forms of martial arts, including Jeet Kune Do, some forms of Kung Fu, and Judo. The key term is he's studied these and not mastered them (at least not all of them!). His best so far is Hung Gar. He is, however, getting along quite well in his studies of the other martial arts mentioned. He devotes about two to three hours in the evening to his training in these and only concentrates on one type one day and another type the next.
History:
Born one day early and on friday the thirteenth, you could say that Nic has never been one for convention. People would joke to his parents at how he ought to be a handful just because of his being born on what was considered such an unlucky day. However, Nicholi seemed to not really care then or later since he was such a sweet-mannered baby. He actually slept for most of the night the first time they brought him home from the hospital.
Being the only son of the great X-Men known as Shadowcat and Colossus didn’t actually have much effect on Nicholi. He led a fairly normal childhood growing up in an apartment above the Hell’s Belles Bar that his parents had inherited, along with the building, after the owner died. Piotr ran the bar mostly while Kitty pursued a career as a computer programming freelancer. They both kept close ties to Xavier’s, Kitty often working closely with the X-Corp division in Chicago. They also made frequent visits to Xavier’s Institute, sometimes even spending holidays there. However, it was Kitty’s wish for a semi-normal life that kept the couple from teaching at Xavier’s, as well as living there.
Until the age of seven, Nic shared a room with his older sister, Julia. He and Julia have always been the type of close siblings you might see on some television sitcom. They had been playmates for as long as Nicholas could remember. Julia’s his sister and he’d defend her if need be (even if she didn’t need it).
The spunky guy doesn’t remember much about living in Chicago since they moved to the suburbs when he was about seven. Of course, he would go into the city occasionally and would visit his parents’ office where the old apartment had been, but other than that, he spent most of his time between school and home. There were impressions and memories that would get triggered by a certain sound, smell, song, or sensation, but that was about it really. Julia seemed to be the only one to truly remember living in the city and she never let him forget that. He didn’t mind though. The suburbian area just within the Chicago city limits was busy enough and really, it had just felt like his life had gotten busier once they moved out there and started to go to a private school (if you can believe that).
The reason for the move was the fact that the apartment had just gotten a bit crowded once Tobe was old enough to really get into everything. That and the fact that the couple realized they wanted their children to actually have a backyard to play in and even attend a better school. Moving to the suburbs had seemed like a no-brainer. Of course, Julia seemed to blame little Tobe for the move; over time though, the eldest Rasputin sibling gradually grew out of that. For this, Nicholi was grateful. He had gotten tired of Julia’s rants of how she wanted to go back to live in the old neighborhood and how everything had been so much better without their younger sister. He loved the little tyke just as much as he loved Julia, which would lead to much frustration in the years to come.
To soften the abrupt cut-off of the move for Julia, Kitty had enrolled the two siblings in a dance class in a dance studio just around the corner from their old apartment/now office. This allowed Julia to stay in touch with her old friends while learning to dance and to keep the two close by after school so that all five of them could go home at the end of the day (Tobe stayed with an old family friend across the street until she was old enough to go to school). To everyone’s surprise, Nicholi didn’t seem to mind the dance lessons. He seemed to be the favorite dance partner for the girls, causing quite a few cat fights between some of his little admirers. You see, Nic seemed to actually like girls at this age. Perhaps it was because he had grown up with Julia as an older sister, but either way, it certainly helped Kitty and Piotr out by being able to keep him close by with his sister.
Dance lessons seemed to lead to Kitty and Piotr both teaching them martial arts, which lead to an interest in weapons and mastering them and of course, there was their art lessons from dear old dad. All in all, the hobbies of the Rasputin family were not your typical family favorites. Really, you would think that the parents wanting a more normal life for their family would exclude all the learning different ways of fighting, but Piotr and Kitty were no fools. They knew that danger didn’t care what kind of plans you had for the future. The former X-Men wanted their children to be able to defend themselves in any and all situations. Besides, the kids seemed to think that all of this stuff was fun. Who were they to complain if they learned other valuable lessons in the process as well?
In addition to all of this extra stuff, Kitty and Piotr encouraged their children to not be afraid to be unique, to try and think outside of the box, and to try to see things from other people’s points of view. They never kept their mutations a secret from their children. They just preferred not to mention it to anyone else. It wasn’t really a secret, just more of a “you don’t ask, we don’t tell” thing. They wanted their children to understand that mutants were just people who happened to have powers as well. Because of this, their household kept a very close eye on mutant affairs and mutant/human relations.
It was when Nic was around the age of ten that Julia developed her mutant power that mirrored their father’s own. For weeks, she had shown off to Nic, turning into organic steel whenever no one was around. Once, she got herself stuck in her organic steel form, causing Nic to roll around laughing while she tried hard to turn back into her normal form. Luckily, they had only been playing in their backyard when this had happened and Julia only spent an hour stuck in that form before their father came home to find Nicholi laughing so hard that he was about to burst into tears and Julia about ready to cry herself. Because of her particular mutation, Julia was able to spend the most time with their father while he and she worked on her mastery of her mutant power. This lead to a little resentment on Nic’s part towards Julia for a bit, causing him to be a bit standoffish for about a month before Kitty pointed out to Piotr that he just might need to spend a bit more time with their son.
Really, Nic felt a bit jealous of the bond that Julia shared with their parents just because she had turned out to be a mutant. Of course, the only real difference in how their parents were treating the two now was the extra time spent on keeping Julia’s power under control. True, they were thrilled to learn that their daughter was a mutant, but that didn’t mean that they were any less proud of the others or even that they loved her more or any differently than they would had she not developed her abilities. However, Nic was beginning to get into that awkward stage full of insecurities and such. Really, he just needed a bit of reassurance from his parents (which they eventually figured out).
For Nic’s fourteenth birthday, Kitty and Piotr took the whole family on a camping trip up in the Canadian mountain range. Nicholi was thrilled to go (they had been going every birthday since he was five), but he also wanted to bring his friends. Of course, his parents had refused, stating that they had thrown a birthday party and he’d even had them over for the night and that this was a family tradition. They went to the beach for the weekend on Julia’s birthday and they went to New York to see a Broadway play for Tobe’s birthday. Each one got a trip with just the family and they were not going to break this tradition.
It was while they were camping in a picturesque spot that a rock slide occurred. Tobe and Julia were near their parents, but Nic was a couple of yards away. Neither Piotr nor Kitty was able to get to him in time, so they just protected the two that they could. They didn’t really have to worry though since it was at this time that Nicholi’s power kicked in, leaving him without even a scratch, though a bit dusty. When the dust cleared, the couple thought the worst. They were in a panic for a whole minute before they realized that their son was safe and sound if only a bit dusty. The whole family had tons of questions, but to tell the truth, the confused pre-teen hadn’t the slightest clue as to how he had done it. He had studied rocks since he was 9 years old and a great deal of the rocks in his rock collection had come from their camping trips to the area over the years. The only explanation was that their son had developed some kind of mutant ability that had protected him during the rock slide. The family decided to finish out the camping trip and only cut it short by one day so that they could make a stop at Xavier’s to figure out what kind of mutant ability Nicholi had been gifted with.
After some extensive testing, it was found that the young teen could manipulate certain stones, minerals, ores, rocks, soil, and such. However, he was limited in that he couldn’t manipulate that which he hadn’t studied the properties of extensively. Since Nicholas had always been curious about such things, he already could manipulate quite a few substances.
Since it was still early on in the semester, Nicholi decided to finish out the semester at the private school that he was already in and attend Xavier’s in the fall, like his sister was doing. Neither he, nor his sister, was ready to give up their friends just yet. Besides, this would give the both of them plenty of time to pack and they’d have the whole summer to hang out with their friends and family before being whisked off to Xavier’s that fall.
It was during this time that things started to get a little crazy. Kitty had just begun to campaign for mayor that year. It would be tough, but she felt it would be worth it to be one of the first mutant mayor in Chicago’s history. She was even using the Belles of Hell Bar as campaign headquarters. The anti-mutant group, Purity, had their own candidate campaigning too, so it would be a very tight race. It was also during this time that Piotr was asked to become apart of an international team of astronauts to go into space. He agreed to become a representative of the X-men, Russia, and America to show the good faith and combined cooperation of the three. He also did it as a favor to Cyclops so that the X-Men could be shown as cooperating on an official mission and in a good light as well. Though this did cause a bit of friction at home, the family coped and Piotr promised everyone that no matter what, he would come home safe to his family once it was all over with. The details were vague and seemingly confidential, but what the family did know that it would only take a month or two at most. So, it was with a sad heart that Kitty, Julia, Nic, and Tobe wished their father luck and said goodbye to him the day before the launch. They even were able to watch the liftoff at Houston.
Everything seemed to be going back to normal after a few days of Dad being in space. They got to talk to him every day or so and Kitty made sure that someone was there to take care of them all if she was unable to do so herself due to some campaign thing or work. All in all it seemed to be that this summer would be uneventful. That is, until one saturday when the news crews came to see them about the unexpected catastrophe in space. The kids were channel surfing when the breaking report went on all the main channels. They would have gone completely past it and straight to cartoons had they not seen the news vans pull up to what they soon found out was their house! It was then that there was a phone call from NASA asking to speak to their mother. Kitty was just pulling up when Julia received the news. The poor girl went all quiet, making Nic wonder what could possibly be wrong. She then started screaming and going hysterical. He had to physically pull her to a chair and sit her down before he realized what she was screaming. That was also when the News crews started banging on the front door, trying to get anyone to answer the door. His mom was trying hard not to cry, Tobe kept asking how over Julia’s hysteric cries, and here Nic was, trying to wrap his head around the whole thing. His father was dead? No…Couldn’t be. He was the strongest man he knew and didn’t he tell him once that he didn’t need to breathe when he was in his steel form? There had to be some mistake. It was utter confusion and chaos. It was only when the police showed up, pushing the news crews off of the Rasputin’s front lawn and then the X-Jet showed up with Scott and Jean that everything started quieting down.
The funeral had been packed. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd as they buried the empty coffin into the ground. Their mother had wanted to scatter their father’s ashes over their grandparents’ old farm, but how could she do that if there wasn’t any ashes to scatter. So they had buried the coffin under a tree on the farm that he had grown up in Russia. Their mother had said that he used to sit under that tree on the hill and draw the farm. Julia seemed to be in denial. She kept on insisting that he was out there somewhere and even tried to look for a way to simulate the vacuum of space so that she could prove that he could survive out there due to his mutant powers (that she had inherited as well). When their mother had found out about this, she had all four of them put into therapy and postponed their going to Xavier’s. Nicholi tried to be there for all of them, helping to comfort them each in his own way. He would listen to Julia’s rants and would even hug her when she would dissolve into tears. With Tobe, he would spend a bit more time with her and take on a few of the duties that their father had done before he’d died. He made sure that he hugged his mother every night and even helped babysit more during her campaign. The sessions with their therapist helped a lot over the year. He and his mother seemed to be making the most progress while Julia seemed to need one more session than the rest of them.
Kitty won the election by a landslide, resulting in more time in the limelight for the Rasputin children. She had retained quite a few sympathy votes as the public saw her struggle with the loss of her husband and the difficulties of raising children on her own. It was during this time that the family found out how to juggle a hectic schedule in a new role while Nic and Julia took on the added task of starting to hone their abilities with a private tutor. Apparently the only reason that Scott had agreed to allow Nic and Julia wait a year before going to Xavier’s was because their mother had agreed to hire a private tutor to help them keep their abilities under control. The tutor turned out to be an old family friend and so the siblings weren’t too reluctant to learn under the tutor’s tutelage, if only for a short while.
The next year, Nicholi and Julia were sent to Xavier’s to start their schooling. They both made friends in different circles that would sometimes interlock. They were still pretty close, but their ages sometimes wouldn’t allow them to spend as much time as they wished they could. Julia started painting again a year later and Nicholi had started to get back into weapons mastery training with her, something that they hadn’t done for about a year or so (really because they had only just then found their old practice things!).
Years passed and all the sudden Julia was twenty and Nicholi was 18 and in his senior year. Tobe seemed to have grown like a beanpole to Nic because he just seemed to blink and the girl was already sixteen and attending Xavier’s. He would have to keep an eye on her because it seems that the guys are starting to notice his little sister and he would have to make sure none of them hurt him. He did the same thing for Julia, so it wasn’t like he didn’t have practice!
Now’s his senior year and he’s finding that he would rather like to get into the whole teams bit that he had been ignoring all those years he’d been there. Really, he felt that he was doing that as a favor to their mother so that she wouldn’t worry so much if they were on a mission, but she was teaching there now. Her term as mayor had been splendid, but she had missed her kids and decided to pack up and teach at Xavier’s once her term was done. They had always visited her during all those summers, of course, but the mother in her missed them all loads more once Tobe left the nest. Of course, she kept an address in Chicago (the Belles of Hell Bar and top apartment held most of the family’s things and also functioned as an address) and still did the occasional freelance computer stuff in her spare time. Either way, he and Julia had a talk with dear old mom and she agreed to let them both, and Tobe if she wished, to join a team. This would be an interesting year!
Personality: Nicholi is a blunt person. He will tell you when you're out of line and isn't afraid to tell people what they don't want to hear. He gets frustrated when people don't listen to him. He usually can see all sides of a problem and is willing to give the outsiders' perspective on a problem. He believes that everything is connected and happens for a reason (even though you may never know that reason!). He loves his sisters very much, hates it when they fight, and tends to be the peacemaker most of the time.
He is easy-going most of the time, but can be a bit bull-headed at times. He's the type that can either be the follower, the advisor, or the leader; he's that versatile.
As for friends? He's the type of person who has charisma. Whenever he wants to turn on the charm, he can have you agreeing to most anything he says. He tries to limit that though as he does have a conscience. He just lets a bit shine through every now and again.
Of course, he can rub people wrong. He's the type who, if he sees someone being wronged, he'll make the person who did the wronging wishing they hadn't. This has gotten him into trouble at times, but it has also earned him a certain amount of respect. Some teachers would attribute this to having his father die when he was just a teen. However, signs of this did show up before that (it just got a bit more out there after his father died).
His father's passing did put a lot of the family's responsibilities on his shoulders, but he likes to think that he's handled it moderately well. There are times when he feels like being alone; and those are the times when he disappears into a tree or down to the lake for a few hours. However, he usually comes back in better spirits.
Likes: Shopping with his sisters (they often bribe him and it gives him a reason to check out girls in the dressing room waiting area), fencing, martial arts, Bruce Lee, kung fu movies, action/adventure movies, fantasy movies, hiking, climbing trees, reading, card games, biking, roller-blading, soccer, baseball, basketball, plays, collecting rocks, studying the different strata of the Earth, Avatar: The Last Air-Bender, survival stuff, camping, canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting, switchblades, hanging out, clubbing, rennaissance fairs, history, medieval weaponry, mythology, legends, CHOCOLATE, forrests, trees, nature, hi-tech gadgets, 12 Stones, StoneSour, Breaking Benjamin, Aerosmith
Dislikes: Fake people, snobby girls, bullies, his sisters' bickering, moaners, bad attempts at turning a good book into a movie, totally high maintenance chicks, stoners, people who talk during movies, people who don't turn their cell phones off during movies, opera (some), know-it-alls, rap, being late, poorly done animated movies, lazy people
Sample Post:
Um, have I been here long enough to not have to provide this yet? *Steals Angie's badge just in case and flashes it quickly before people realize whose name is on the badge!*
Three Amazing Girls + One Super-Powered School = Countless Possibilities.
Powers: Some more detail would be of advantage here. Where are his limits? What/how does he have to study in order to gain control over a certain substance? Just try to think of what you think is and what is not possible for him to do ^^
Skills: Just a note that this is quite a lot for someone who's 18 years old. Keep in mind the hours of the day and all that jazz... there's only so much you can do unless you entirely abandon your social life (and even then there're limits ).
Personality: I'd like to know whether there're any longterm effects his father's death caused... and also whether he's more of the social kind, making friends and trusting easily... etc.
Aaaand no, you don't need a sample
For everyone comes the time when they have to take over responsibility. It stands to argue whether there is also a time when they can get rid of it again.
