Oz Daniels: Jekyll and Hyde *Completed!*Name: Oz(short for Osborne) Daniels Nickname: For Hyde: "Your other half", "evil twin", "madman" for Jekyll: "Your better half", Daniels, Dan Code Name: Jekyll for his good half, Hyde for his dark side Affiliation: X-men Gender: Male Age: 19 Birthday: November 5th Hair: dark and longish Eyes: hazel Mother: Jenna Daniels (made up, mutant) Father: Jesse Daniels (made up, human)
Powers:
When concieved the mutant gene in Oz had an intended mutation, that of allowing him to become two seperate people, identical versions of himself with one mind. However his mother had a serious illness during her pregnancy and although tests seemed at the time to show that her baby had not been harmed his X-gene had been altered. The disease had an effect on his genes and he instead became two entirely different people trapped within one body but with two different minds. Although his powers would not emerge until later in life his genes had been altered from birth.
Most of the time Oz is what he has taken to referring to as his "good side" or his "Jekyll" personality. Therefore he is, much of the time, a completely average teenager with no additional mutant powers except for his natural skills and a keen sense of awareness of the world around him.
Oz's otherside is not so passive however. This side brings out the animal and beast within and his two personalities struggle within him for domimance, civilized human and untamed beast. When his 'Hyde' persona emerges Oz boasts greater physical strength and is physically built for action. He is thus able to move with greater speed and to do more damage when he intends to. To say 'Hyde' is morally lacking is an understatement for this side of him is interested only in self preservation and interest. Even when his otherside shows the slightest hint of morality and has respect for another Oz in his guise is brutal and if he takes revenge he does not know where to draw the line and often goes too far in his brutality. This side of Oz is unaffected by minor injuries and he is both more resilient and faster to heal when it comes to greater pain. As a result of his beastiality, Oz has enhanced senses in this state meaning he can see in the dark and hear and smell better than ever before. He also is able to scale buildings and move with more speed although he does lack in grace. Physically his face is very similar but there is evidence of his beastiality and cruelty in his facial features that does not emerge unless Hyde is in control.
Oz's transformations from one persona to the next are not controlled by him although he can attempt to bring on a transformation or to deny one by managing conditions around him and his emotions. Much of the time his 'Hyde' persona comes out when he needs to release deep emotions that are dark including anger and jealousy or in times of great stress or emotional strain. 'Hyde' may also emerge during times when Oz undergoes intense physical pain in order to lesson the strain on his body at the time. Although Oz can, with great self control, keep 'Hyde' in check 'Hyde' does have a mind entirely his own and hence can often escape control in times when Oz is not consciously thinking. For this reason 'Hyde' can come out at night after Oz has lain down to sleep.
The transformation to 'Hyde' is only momentarily painful and as soon as he becomes 'Hyde' he is no longer in pain. Transforming back is another story however and when this occurs Oz can slip back to form without any pain at the time but he feels the after effects later. He is always very weak and often has flulike symptoms including aches, head pains and nausea. Most of the time he is forced to rest and remain in bed for at least a day and often more depending on the stress his body underwent for a transformation. The longer 'Hyde' comes out for the longer and harder the recovery. 'Hyde' is able to stay out for as long as he is able and once he has wrestled control from his counterpart it is difficult for Oz's otherside to regain control. This means that oftentimes he can appear for long periods of time and even go for days. Also 'Hyde' has his own mind and although he sees through 'Jekyll's' eyes and lives each moment in the back of his mind it is not the same in reverse. Oz only sometimes knows what is going on and because he is the weaker half he often doesn't follow whatever is happening with his body. Consequently Oz often doesn't remember the actions of his other half and gains memories only through memory flashes at random, through others telling him what happened or through getting information directly out of 'Hyde'. 'Hyde' is always present as well and the two halves communicate with one another inside his head although 'Hyde', when not in control, cannot speak aloud.
History:
Oz was born in one of the coldest months of the year but he was one of the bright spots in his parents' lives. He was their first and only child and was a happy baby, always bouncing and laughing. What his parents didn't realise was that his mutant gene had been altered due to an illness Jenna had had during her pregnancy. The non fatal disease had an effect on her genes and on those of the growing baby inside her womb and his mutant gene, which would normally have given him the ability to become two seperate people but with the same minds, altered to make him into two entirely different people trapped in one body. Luckily for him the effects of this illness would not begin to show until later in his life.
As Oz grew up he was good at several things and his only problem was occational laziness and a tendancy to procrastinate. He got along with many other children and due to his fairly tall height he was never picked on yet was able to defend younger kids who wouldn't stick up for themselves. All through grade school he was a good kid, the type of guy that was on the right road through life but all that was about to change.
His first year of high school was entirely normal but during the end of the summer Oz began to experience losses of memory, periods of time in which he couldn't remember having done anything yet knew that he must have been about. He thought nothing of these memory lapses and neglected to inform his parents about them until he started to get blurred images and finally a clear image of a him only slightly different in appearance. At first Oz thought that this was just another side of him and he found the whole experience like something in a movie and enjoyed it. In fact for the first half of his grade 10 year he experienced no real changes other than these strange lapses and occational blurred memories of what had occured. Sometimes he would be unexplainably sick for a few days but it happened infrequently and meant that he could get out of school without having to make up an excuse so Oz thought nothing of it.
A few months later though rumours began to circulate of a kid different from Oz yet similar who had been bullying others. They never of course believed it was him though for the Oz they knew was bright as sunshine and popular with everything. The day things changed was when Oz came out of a spell and found himself standing over the body of a younger grade kid who was bleeding from the nose. His own fist was bloodied and he wasn't able to remember how he had gotten there. There was a group around him though and everyone had seen him brutally attack and punch the younger student. Oz was suspended temporarily and upon explainning the circumstances to his parents they realised that his mutant abilities had gone wrong or that they had always been like this and were just now emerging.
As the students began to adjust to the thought of their beloved friend as a brutal bully Oz too had to deal with this emerging part of himself that began to show itself more and more frequently. Having been so sheltered and raised in such a way that despised bullying Oz found he was unable to entirely deal with what was happening to him and he began to retreat both emotionally and physically.
With Oz's uncontrollable otherside his parents weren't sure what they would do with his schoolife after his suspension was served and although they talked about ways in which they could make the public schooling system work Oz knew in his heart that it wasn't to be. He told his parents firmly that he couldn't go back, saying that he was sixteen now and that it was his choice.
From then on Oz was home schooled and although he studied well and achieved excellent grades even taking into consideration the fact that it was his parents marking his schoolwork, more and more lapses of time went by during which he was unable to remember what had occured. After these lapses he would hear snippets of conversation in public places about a mennace terrorizing children or shoplifting. Oz tried to deny to himself the thought that he was behind such actions yet he knew that it was this other side of him that had done such horrible things. He began hearing a voice inside his head, something almost surreal to him as it seemed as though it was the devil side of someone and the angel side arguing as often depicted in movies. The voice delighted in keeping him on the edge though, in giving him brief memories that answered few of his questions and created more.
It was when Oz woke up one day and realised that he had been absent from the world for all intensive purposes. There were messages on his answering machine from two days earlier and for the life of him he couldn't remember what he had done since he went to bed Monday night even though it was currently Thursday morning. The strangeness turned to horror as he looked through the newspaper and read a brief article on a boy brutally beaten who was in critical condition at the hospital with no leads on a suspect. Oz remembered the boy from an argument at a local store where he had been ripped off and his blood ran cold. The images and taunting commentary Hyde provided him with confirmed his suspicians and Oz was consumed by horror. He secluded himself from the world and didn't sleep, trying to do anything to keep the monster that was Hyde from doing anymore harm.
His seclusion was interrupted by a man rapping on his door with a cane. Oz was hesitant to speak with him but the man, who introduced himself as Johnny, knew alot about him and claimed to know about what he could potentially do if he didn't control his powers. This fear that the self-proclaimed psychic could be right and that he could progress to killings was overpowering and Oz reluctantly agreed to go with Johnny to a place where he would find some form of help. He ended up in the Xavier institute and although his powers were a whole new level of danger at the institute he was convinced to stay and did. Now Oz has been at the institute for a few months and 'Hyde' has mostly resorted to taunting and comments about what he could do although a few minor events have taken place. He has been missing time for a few short periods but nothing has happened violently so Oz has been content to leave the situation although he is being very cautious.
Personality:
Before
Before the transformations began Oz was a popular child, one of the few kids in grade school who could manage to get along with absolutely everyone. He was intelligent enough to compete with the academic kids but didn't show off and had a wicked sense of humour and mischief. The only complaints his teachers ever had about him was that he was a class clown and that he didn't always apply himself and show his capabilities. It seemed that he was on the track to a good University and a great life until...
After-Jekyll
As his mutant abilities manifested Oz was, at first, quite unaware of the pure cruelty of his other side. He viewed the manifesting personality as simply another part of him and didn't see the evil there until it was too late. In the first year Oz remained unchanged in personality, he was the same good kid as he had always been but there were murmurings of another kid who was much like Oz in looks but his opposite in personality. He was still young but as his other side manifested itself more Oz realised what the evil in him was capable of. This evident evil which he could not quite remember terrorized him and he retreated into a shell. It took only a matter of weeks before Oz had completely changed in personality. Where he had before been outgoing and well liked he was now moody with failing grades, a temper and an outcast. Since everyone had found out at least through rumours some version of what had happened to him he was shunned and wanted to be left alone. When in his Jekyll state now Oz is quiet and appears outwardly indifferent or completely an emotional wreck. He feels great fear at the other side of himself and doesn't trust himself or have any self confidence. After his other side takes over for awhile he completely withdraws from human contact and mopes in the dark. Emotionally he is often a mess and is plagued by nightmares but he tries to hide this from everyone around and appear fine. There are traces of the original Oz left in him but they are buried and he rarely laughs or smiles.
Hyde
Where Jekyll is emotional and caring about all, Oz's other side is pure cruelty. He has few morals and doesn't object to hurting others at all. Hyde cares about few things and does not even care about his good side, not objecting at all to bullying and to hurting others with his cruel comments. He likes manipulation and craves control and power. Although Hyde is the dark side of Oz, Hyde is not entirely inhuman and he does care about things on occation. It is rare for both sides of Oz to agree and be at peace and so he feels constantly at war with himself. Also Hyde sees everything that Oz does but when Oz does not see everything that his other side does and recieves only flashes and the occational complete memories of his activities. Hyde delights in tormenting Oz also with brief glimpses and insinuation without coming out and saying anything about what it is exactly that he has done.

Re: Oz Daniels: Jekyll and Hyde *In progress*
I've got some work to do then...
I have about 22 characters that I have all worked out in mind and know I'm going to use/bios in progress/in play.
Oh and I just finished messing around with custom titles so I'm gonna post what I want and hopefully you won't get too upset
I think I'm going to take a page from your book and use different usernames but not for each character, three names so I can fit the custom titles and stuff...
Re: Oz Daniels: Jekyll and Hyde *In progress*
Sheesh… can’t keep track with posting but applies tons of new charries… shame on you!!
Aaaanyway… “'Hyde' is able to stay out for as long as he is able” … behold the logic of that! Please add something more specific. Which factors get Hyde to retreat? Did I get it right, that the switch between those personalities does not include actual physical alterations?
Also, I’m wondering about this “intended mutation” bit. It does sound like some A.Corp.-ish playing around with genes kind of thing but there is nothing such mentioned in the history.
As expected, I don’t really have anything to criticize… gee, you’re just TOO good, Lady! *grumbles*
Another great “product”… and another loner. I’m really starting to see a pattern here
I don’t think you need another stamp…

Re: Oz Daniels: Jekyll and Hyde *In progress*
I can't find my comments which I did have written down in response...they're somewhere on my computer but my files are incredibly disorganized and I've searched enough so here goes without them.
Re: Intended mutation
By this I meant that Oz was suposed to have the mutation allowing him to become two seperate people as I mentionned in my body. Now this was what was suposed to occur and so was his intended mutation but because of the illness his mother had during pregnancy his X-gene was altered. I don't know a thing about genetics, it's probably not possible but seeing as X-men is based in science fiction and that for powers of other superheros there is often an element of suspension of disbelief I'm hoping this will be okay. So by intended mutation I just meant how he would have been and might be in an alternate universe somewhere had his mother not gotten ill.
Re: 'Hyde is able to stay out as long as he is able'
*glares at poor wording* I hope I write better sentences now...
The switch doesn't contain major physical alterations. To contain more mass and strength he is slightly bigger in build and in height but the differences are very slight and so he would appear to be the Jekyll side of himself and anyone who knew him would most likely pass the slight difference off as a trick of the light. His face by it's expressions also appears more feral and his movements are more beastlike so close friends would probably be able to tell if they spoke with Hyde at length but Hyde can pass himself off as Jekyll without too much trouble.
As for what causes Hyde to retreat that would be if Oz manages to regain control and reassert his personality but that is difficult. More often than not Hyde turns back when he wants to, when there's no longer any need for him. The darker side of Oz is used for times when emotions can't be bottled anymore and to do the things that the ethical and moral Jekyll could never do willingly. Thus when whatever Hyde accomplishes is finished with he doesn't feel the need to stay out. Also because the two personalities share a body and the Jekyll side is the dominant one Hyde simply doesn't have the energy to remain in control for more than three days at a time with rests in between. If he were to stay out for longer he would severely cripple the body he is trapped within which wouldn't help his case so Hyde can't be out for long without causing physical damage to Jekyll. As it is it takes a few days to recover after long spells when Oz is taken over by his darker half unwillingly. The strain on the body is less though when the take over is willingly brought about.
So the short answer to this is basically a few days absolute tops but the longer Hyde stays out the worse the injuries to heal from will be to Oz's body.
Re: Oz Daniels: Jekyll and Hyde *In progress*
It does! And I guess what confused me was the the wording of "intended mutation". In genetics, it is possible to force DNA to mutate which was what came to my mind while reading, yet if I understood you correctly now, you rather meant "intended by nature" .. so eeeverything's alright
