and real weather. This month I tried the new
routes from Phoenix hub.

Flight report December 2002

Flights from our Phoenix hub, to practice IFR procedures and emergency procedures with 747-400 PS1.

HI 551 KSFO KPHX, 747-400 PS1, 654NM, FL380, 35274lbs fuel burned, 1 hour 40 minutes

HI 560 KPHX KDFW, 747-400 PS1, 856NM, FL400, 48943lbs fuel burned, 2 hours 6 minutes. I lost engine 2 while cruising, so I had to descent at FL300 to continue safely my flight. Other minor problems were loss of APU, and problems with electric doors locks. I was also very low on fuel! On landing, a 8kts cross wind indicated manual landing (automatic ILS landing requires max 5kts crosswind) with full flaps at 134KIAS (a very light ship); thrust reverse was not available, but unneccessary at that speed and runway conditions. Flight ended safely, and the plane handed over to careful maintenance engineers at Dallas for quickly restoring it to flight conditions.

HI 561 KDFW KPHX, 747-400 PS1, 783NM, FL400, 42770lbs fuel burned, 1 hour 53 minutes. Hyd Sys 3 failure caused loss of L autopilot, so I had to perform a manual ILS landing (all AP operative are required for autoland).

Then, a nice tour in French Polinesia, at least!

HI 707 Bora Bora – Maupiti, aircraft C182RG FS2002, VFR flight between the islands with sight-seeing tour of Bora Bora, 30 minutes

HI 708 Maupiti - Bora Bora, aircraft C182RG FS2002, VFR flight between the islands with sight-seeing tour of Maupiti, 21 minutes

HI 705 Bora Bora – Tahiti, aircraft A320CFM FS2002, IFR, FL160, 142NM, 6020lbs fuel burned, 29 minutes. Since the Airbus’ FMC database does not list French Polinesia, I flew this flight on raw data, using glass cockpit as conventional instruments. A good training indeed.

Charter flight LSGG-LSGG. A panoramic tour from Geneva, around Mont Blanc. Aircraft Beech King Air FS2002, 40 minutes.

HI 90 PHNL PHKO, GNS 530 simulator, 157NM, FL 170, 35minutes.
This was a very particular flight, I didn’t use an airplane simulator, but the simulator of the Garmin GNS 530 navigation system, as provided by the factory, fully functional and with complete database. I entered flight data consistent with an aircraft od the A320 class. Very interesting!!!
