Flight report February 2003
EUROPE A
I completed this european tour with a 747-400, PS1 simulator, gate-gate, with real weather and under ATC control. Plane configuration was Lufthansa all-pax or combi. I practised random emergencies, as usual (this is a great training to keep you smart, and fully understand the plane’s systems).
LIMC LIRF, 335NM, FL270, 1 hour
Lost hydraulic system n.4
LIRF LIMC, 366NM, FL280, 1 hour 5 minutes
Engine 2 oil temperature warning, set engine to idle and landed safely
LFPG LFLL FL370 53 minutes
Flight back to Milan was interrupted by a “fire wheel well” emergency: I slowed to gear extraction speeed (0.82M), pulled the gear down, then landed at the next suitable airport, Lyon Satolas.
LFLL LIMC, 203NM, FL190, 43 minutes.
Loss of hydraulic system n.1 during final required alternate flaps and gear extraction, and manual ILS landing (no triple autopilot available for automated landing).
