ReGrouping - Planning ahead
*Upon returning to the basement of the hotel Angel wondered if there was any chance that vampire back there was the real deal as far as attitude went.

It was rare for a vampire not to attack them at the very mention of his name, but there was something different about this vampire, Angel could see it in his eyes*

Angel:"I'm going to get something to drink."

*He mumbled under his breath as he almost ran up the stairs and into the main entrance hall, with a quick glance around to make sure there was no suprise guests waiting for them, he made his way into the kitchen.

He paused as he reached the fridge, looking about once more as if making sure there was no one in the kitchen, he cautiously opened the door of the fridge and reached in to grab one of the jars.

Once he had grabbed one he closed the door and moved over to the cupboard, pulled out a mug and began pouring the blood into it.

Letting out a sigh he placed both the mug and the jar down*

Angel:"I know you're around, I can feel you everywhere...stop playing games with us."

*He turned around, but no one was there still, obviously growing tired of these silly mind tricks that where being played on them he grabbed his mug and placed it into the microwave to warm it up.

After it had been heated he grabbed it and slammed the microwave door shut.

Angel:"You know I may not use them but I have powers you could never even imagen."

*He growled quietly and lifted the mug to his lips, drinking the entire contents of the mug, he had been so thirsty yet his desire to resist the thirst often made him forget how thirsty he truely was*

Rachel:"You wouldn't dare use your powers, not unless you wanted to risk releasing the beast within."

*Angel lowered his cup, placing it gently on the bench and turning about to face the cause of the nightmares both he and Spike had been suffering.

The red haired girl moved closer to Angel, her hand reaching out and touching his chest, Angel attempted to move away from her touch but backed into the bench*

Rachel:"You're not afriad of me...are you?"

*Her words where obvious mockery, her crooked smile uncaring for whatever fear was running threw his mind, infact she seemed to enjoy it*

Angel:"What are you, a mutant, demon..?"

Rachel:"What's the matter, you're not as blood thirsty as I remember."

*Her hand moved up to his cheek, but he grabbed it, vamping out at the same time, his now yellow eyes glaring down at her, his fanged teeth clearly visible*

Rachel:"Impressive, I didn't think it'd take so long for you to lose your temper."

Angel:"Oh you've never seen me lose my temper, now who are you?"

Rachel:"You have no clue as to what I've seen. And you should know who I am....you made me."

*The young girl turned into her vampire form, her fanged teeth clentched tightly together as she took a step back*

Rachel:"You should have known.."

*Her form seemed to instantly shift into that of his mirror image*

Angelus Illusion:"You could never hide from me, I'll take back what's mine, and finish what I've started."

*The sound of movement outside caused the illusion to disappear, but Angel could still feel it's eerie presence*

Angel:"..Not as long as I'm around."

*He mumbled, rubbing his slightly shaking hands together as he moved out into the entrance hall, one glance at Spike reminded him he was still vamped out, quickly he returns to his human form, his hand rubbing his eyes in a futil attempt to hide himself from the curious stare of his friend.

Angel couldn't help but feel like he was going to be responsible for something very bad that was coming their way in the near future*

Angel:"He's coming, we should be ready for anything."

*He informed Spike, though most likely Spike would have sensed the vampire coming as well*

Nick's Message
Nick got as far as outside the Renaissance hotel before he realised he didn't have a room number.

It was unlikely that Angel and the other vampire would be staying under their regular names but perhaps he just thought that because he had always chosen a new name for each life. They seemed to live a little less like humans than what he was used to though so who really knew?

Finally Nick, seeing no other alternative, pulled out his mobile phone and carefully dialed the number written on the card. Sure he could have just sniffed around for vampires but he had a feeling that wouldn't exactly be accepted as an excuse from the clerk's persepective and flying as a bat seemed a little too dramatic at this point in time.

So Nick simply dialed and waited, half hoping he'd get a machine since the conversation with Angel would be rather awkward.

Re: Nick's Message
*The sudden ringing of the phone seemed to startle Angel, nothing to dramatic, just a startled glance over towards the phone.

But he was still a little twitchy from his recent encounter with the red head, it wasn't the first time she'd appeared to him, and he had the feeling it wouldn't be last.

He moved over to the phone, but paused, wondering if he should just let it go into the message bank, glancing over at Spike, Angel took a deep breath and picked up the phone*

Angel:"The Renaissance Hotel, what is it?"

*He stated bluntly, as if he had something more important on his mind, with an intro like that there was no wonder their hotel only seemed to house the odd demon every now and then*

Re: Nick's Message
Nick swore silently. He'd really been hoping to avoid this conversation but that was the price one paid for phoning.

"Angel? It's Nick. I don't know if you remember me, I was in the police department. I'm outside the hotel but your card doesn't have a room number on it so I thought I'd call and ask," he said.

**There that wasn't so hard now was it?** Nick thought to himself, taking an uneeded breath.

Re: Nick's Message
*Everything seemed to go silent, Angel's eyes locked with Spike's, informing the bleached vampire instantly that it was their guest on the other side of the line.

The Ancient Soulled Vampire couldn't help but smirk at his request for a room number*

Angel:"We're in the main entrance hall."

*That was all he said, placing the phone down without even bothering to wait for a responce*

Angel:"The Slaarg Demon will be leaving at sun down as soon as his skin finishes peeling, so we should have the hotel to ourselves but 8, plenty of time to head down to the graveyard."

*Angel continued leaning against the counter, he picked up a sheet of paper, a group of young Renaissance Recruits where booked to arrive within the next few days, he just hoped he'd be able to handle this group group with more dimplomacy thn he'd handled the last.

But young vampires sometimes found it hard to cope with their new abilities and instincts, still, he wouldn't accept a slip up, and biting a human was a pretty big slip up.

Placing down the paper he glanced over at Spike, then looked bakc over his shoulder towards the kitchen. After a moment his eyes focused towards Nicks direction, almost as if he could see right threw the walls of wood and brick*

*Spike nodded as Angel finished speaking*

Spike: "Right, I hope that Slaarg Demon will take his skin with him, unlike the last one we had..."

*Spike said slowly remebering how he had to clean up after it.

He looked to Angel and followed his gaze. He gave a sniff of the air and figured out who it was, soon they would be joined by the other vampire, hopefully his help along with the younger vampires would be useful.*

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Nick ended the call and placed the phone back in his coat pocket.

He hoped this wasn't a trap or set up of some sort but it didn't feel like one, Angel had seemed genuine. Nick had his gun of course, he also carried it with him like any good police officer would. The gun wouldn't harm Angel and the bleached vampire much of course but it might provide enough of a distraction.

Nick's fault had always been that he was too trusting though and despite his suspicians here he ended up emptying the gun. Perhaps it would be taken as the gesture of peace that he intended.

Steadying himself he walked into the Renaissance Hotel and shut the door behind him. There he stood in the front hall waiting.
"I'm here," he said unneccessarily. They would have smelled his scent the moment he entered.

*Angel moved towards him, slowly, studying the creature the whole time*

Angel:"Well...everyone know's my story.."

*His words spoken in a light tone*

Angel:"How about we hear yours?"

*He stopped, folding his arms across his broad chest as he waits*

Angel:"Vampire at a police station? Defintly not new to the under world, the younger ones never respect their elders."

*He glanced over towards Spike with a joking grin, but once again looked more serious as he returne his attention to Nick*

Angel:"So...what's your story, and why where you hanging around the police department?"

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Nick looked questionningly over at Spike, not wanting to tell his own life and unlife story and feel the pain once more.
"I don't even know his name," Nick said to Angel.

"As for older, depends what you consider older. The one who brought me across was 2000. I'm not half that age," he said, giving just a hint of his life without telling each detail.

Nick paced as he waited for a response. Angelus was legendary as was Angel but he wasn't about to give in and tell everything. Vampires hadn't been what he was searching for when he had come here. He'd been continuing his ongoing search for a cure and getting closer to vampires, telling them everything wasn't helping...not matter how right this felt in his heart.

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Looking from Nick over to Spike, Angel hesitated, but slowly and honestly replied.

Angel:"That's Spike."

Both vampires had spent their unlives slaying and maiming all innocents they came across, sometimes it was hard to forget the pain they caused.

He looked back at Nick, obviously if he wanted to hurt them he would have done so.

Angel:"I don't have the laxury of hiding my past from others.."

He began as he started looking over Nick's face, focusing more on his eyes as if he was reading something, seeing something that no one else could see.

Angel:"So I envy that of you...but if we find out you've harmed a single innocent in this town.."

He moved closer to Nick, almost threatening him just by glaring, but his manner instantly lightend up.

Angel:"Have you got a place to stay? Our hotel has many spare rooms....Daniel Turwin!"

Angel looked over at Spike as if he had recalled something.

Angel:"He's the guy that studied Draven's murder scene! Maybe he recalls something.."

Angel looked back at Nick.

Angel:"Sorry, did you have place to stay?"

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Nick nodded, Angel seemed sincere enough so he didn't have a reason to hide anything from the older vampire.
"I'm fairly new in town. I've been travelling, I stayed in Toronto for about a decade but I've been on the move since then," he replied just as honestly.

"I'm trying to get a job with the police force again but I could use a place for the moment," Nick finished. "No one has time for a life story that spans eight centuries, even if we have eternity," he said after a long pause. It was taking time to decide what he should say and how much needed to be revealed really.

"I was brought across in 1228 by Lacroix," Nick started, hanging his head slightly. the last thing he wanted to talk about right now was his sire. "I wanted immortality but once I was turned I realised how this immortality stunk of death and I wanted to go back. I tried to live as a vampire with him and with Janette but I couldn't pull it off no matter how I tried."

He stopped for a moment, looking pained and not being able to meet Spike and Angel's eyes as guilt overwelmed him. "Then there was a girl, Jeanne d'Arc. She was willing to die for what believed in and I still didn't believe in anything really. She started it and I killed in lust but I hated myself for it,"

Nick's eyes fell even farther if that was possible as he felt terrible for everything. "I tried to redeem myself, told everyone I was an executioner for God and killed only the guilty. Lacroix mocked me, went against me and pursued me. I took on mortal names and lives, professions, everything was mortal. He caught up with me in Toronto. I was Nick Knight there and I will be here. You should probably know though that he will show up again, after me," Nick finished, his eyes finally rising from the floor to meet Angel's before glancing away again.

He deliberately left out details, how Janette had been his lover and how out of jealousy and need for her he had turned her back into a vampire after she achieved what he had always sought. Nick also left out Toronto in general. Nat was just...well she was always there and to say it allowed, especially to strangers would just be strange, unneeded.

Clearing his throat Nick tried to change the subject before the questions started down on him. "What's Spike's story?"

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Angel:"...Lacroix?"

He repeated, but then decided to drop the subject entirely.

Angel:"You're looking for a job as Police Officer? Well, that's easy, we know a CSI Agent on the force, he's mortal, if you're finding it hard to get the job, contact him, Daniel Turwin and tell him we sent you, easy as that, he owes us."

Looking over at Spike, it wasn't Angel's place to tell Spike's story...so acted as if he didn't hear the question, allowing Spike to take care of that question himself.

Angel:"And if he doesn't remember our names...just say those two guys, one of them with bleached hair."

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Nick sighed, glad that Angel hadn't pressed any further into his past.

"Thanks for the help, If there's anything you need.." he said, trailing off so that Angel could fill in the rest.
Surely if they'd told him to come they must have something for him and he'd handled two lives before. This would be no different in that way but in others..for one of the first times Nick was without any of his creature of the night family members and this time he wouldn't make the mistake he had now made twice before in falling in love with a mortal and drinking from her.

He fell silent, hoping to hear Spike's answer to his earlier question and Angel's response afterwards.

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
*Spike looked from Angel to Nick*

Spike: "...My story?"

*He sighed, not really wanting to tell, but this new vampire had said his own, it wouldn't be too right if he didn't.*

Spike: "Well...I was Sired over one thousand years ago, by a vampire called Dru...Drusilla..."

*He repeated her full name slowly remembering his past, rmembering Drusilla*

Spike: "We were...Strong...And killed many..."

*The voices repeated Spike with yelling 'killed many'. Spike shook his head to try and clear out the voices, it didn't really work, but he continued anyway.*

Spike: "In the 19th century I recieved the nickname Spike after changing my killing style by using railroad spikes...A long time later Dru and I travelled here, to...For a job."

*He said leaving out the part that he was supposed to kill a slayer.*

Spike: "I was ambushed and some mortals, they placed a chip in my head. It stopped me from hurting any good. Dru left me after that.

Later on, I travelled to Africa to regain my soul. It was hard, but I passed. Unfortunatly I was cursed with the voices of those I had killed in my head..."

*He stopped, letting Nick figure out that there wasn't really much between his trip to Africa and to his return to the States.*

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
A lightbulb went off in Nick's head as he realised this was why the bleached blonde vampire had been so quiet the whole time. It wasn't so quiet inside his head surely.

Nick could relate although he didn't get voices so much as he did images, flashes of memories from times past. Over the past few years that he had been seperate from them the flashes of Nat and Janette were strongest. They were often mingled with Lacroix, another of his monologues that somehow seemed to always say exactly what Nick had just been thinking or the situation that he was in. Sometimes Nick wondered if they were just his imagination or if there was a bond between them of blood that was stronger than real family.

Now wasn't the time though and he blinked away the flash of Natalie threatening to appear in his mind for the umpteenth one. It was always the same, her trusting him to take just a little at a time, him draining her nearly dry and those agonizing moments afterwards in the hospital area, not knowing if he had killed her or if she lived yet. Over the past years he had learned to control(to a certain extent) his flashes and struggled bitterly against this one.

To distract himself and the others from this internal struggle he tried to smile at Spike, his attempt turning out more of a grimace than anything else. Hopefully Angel's answer to the question he had asked would make an ample distraction.

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Angel seemed to distract himself by staring over towards the stairs as Spike spoke, Dru ruined Spike's life, Angel ruined Dru's...Darla ruined his.

It was a brutal circle that seemed to always hover around him, reminding him of what he had done. The only way to live with himself was attempting to distance himself from his past as much as possible.

Spike had finished talking, and everything then went silent, everyone was waiting for Angel's reply now..

Angel:"There is something now you mentioned it.."

He began, his eyes now turning to focus on Nick.

Angel:"We're..."

His words seemed to suddenly stick in his throat, almost unwilling to allow them to continue on, perhaps now wasn't the time to ask for help on their little problem with that...thing that'd been haunting them.

Angel:"...There's rumers of something big about to happen, Spike and I are busy trying to find a man called Draven Lee, if you could keep an eye open for anything...it would be a big help."

He threw a key over towards Nick.

Angel:"Feel free to come and go as you please, pick any room you like on the 2nd floor that isn't locked....shouldn't be too many locked doors."

He turned to move towards the door the leads into the basement, where he's room has been set up, but pauses and looks back, wondering if he should mention the fact they are on a pigs blood diet, but decided now wasn't the time.

Angel:"We have a big night coming, I'm off to get some rest."

He looked over at Spike, then moved silently towards the door, disapearing threw and closing it gently with a light thud before desending down the stairs.

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Nick caught the key and said quietly, "Thanks, I'll keep a look out for him." He waited as Angel finished his conversatipon and had left.

Nick watched Angel leave, a strange look passing over his face as he watched the vampire head off. After a moment he himself headed out of the lobby and up a flight of stairs to the second floor. He openned the door to one room and checked for a window with blinds before entering.

The room seemed nice enough, bed, door, window and other neccessities but not homely. Nick noticed the mini fridge and half smiled. That could certainly come in handy although he had been trying to stay light on the plasma and actually eat human food like Nat had been telling him. The smile vanished as soon as she entered his thoughts again and Nick plopped down on the bed, suddenly weary.

Feeding time could wait, for the moment he would just deal with getting through the day. The distant sounds of town passed by, his senstive vampire hearing catching every car but through a haze. It was only a short while longer before sleep took him over entirely.

*Spike watched as both the vampires walked out of the lobby. He too thought of going to get some rest but he remembered his nightmare from last time. It wasn't something like him geting steaked in the heart or anyhting, it was more a memory with flashbacks of his dark past.

He sighed and walked over to one of the sofa chairs which guests normally sat in while waiting for their room if it wasn't ready yet. He let out a loud yawn and altough he faught off trying to sleep, he eventually did.*

Re: ReGrouping - Planning ahead
Finally, each creature seperate, unable to rely on the other for a source of distraction and the new comer just ment there was more fun to be have'd with these monsters.

Rachel sat in a tree just outside the hotel, true she didn't need to be so close, but the closer she was to her victems the longer she could project herself, and she wanted to be able to take as long as she needed with them.

It was perfect, they all where struggling with the demons of their past, she'd make them suffer for the pain their kind has caused.

Closing her eyes, Rachel projects an image of herself into the building, she looked about, now standing just before the sleeping vampire who sat in the entrance hall.

Rachel:"Wakey wakey.."

She whispers, her image altering to that of Drusilla, her dark wavey hair flowing over her shoulders as she leans forward.

Dru-Illusion:"Spikey.."

She whispered lightly as her lips press gently against his, her fingers stroking the side of his cheeks as she pulls slowly away, but keeps her face close to his.

Dru-Illusion:"Daddy's been a bad boy, hurting all those people...I can taste their blood on your lips.."

Spike: "...Dru?"

*He ask still waking up.*

Dru-Illusion:"Daddy's been a bad boy, hurting all those people...I can taste their blood on your lips.."

*As she finished speaking, Spike pulled his head back and pushed himself deeper into the sofa chair.*

Spike: "...Dru...No...You're not real, so you can go away..."

*He said to the illusion trying to sound angry but at that moment he was more scared than anything*

Spike: "...I don't know who you are, but you can go away..."

Dru frowned slightly as she tilts her head.

Dru-Illusion:"Hush now, I can't leave you, you're dangerous, we don't want you to hurt any more children...they always cry, it's so sweet."

Taking a seat beside him, she leaned over, placing her hand over his chest as she whispers.

Dru-Illusion:"You remember right, all the screaming, the fire, it was so perfect, can you still hear them? Like music, echoing in your mind, their cries, their pleas, they begged for you to leave them alone, you didn't, so why should I leave you alone when you beg me?"

She smiled devishly as she placed her ear against his chest.

Dru-Illusion:"Still nothing alive, dead as ever.."

Moving her head away from him as she continued.

Dru-Illusion:"You think you're different? You're not..came back to me Spikey, came out and play.."

Taking his hand in hers, she smiles as she pulls it closer towards her.

Dru-Illusion:"Came out into the light.."
