SORROW/Rose McDowall LIVE in SF!
If anyone's in thee SF Bay Area, Rose is playing w/ her band Sorrow at the DNA LOUNGE in SF on April 14th, fro $15.

They have a Southern Cali. date too, but I forget when it is.

I've seen them before and she and I met and instantly hit it off. Can't wait for this!

Re: I'd like to go- but
WIOUX-HIOUX!!!! It's tonight and I can't wait. Don't know anything about thee opening acts, Faun Fables sounds familiar, and I am scared of "the master musicians of hop-frog"- afraid it might be some silly-nilly performance, hip-hop/rap type thing. UGH! Oh well, we'll likely miss them anyway as my ride doesn't wanna get their too early, just in time to see Faun Fables cuz he's heard she/they is/are good.

Have a great day and night everyone. Will report on the show tomorrow! Now, what to wear? Camo pants and a brown, long sleeved shirt w/ tiny Totenkopf's sewn onto the lapels, or a black silk shirt w/ red flames stitched across the chest and ruby buttons w/ black lace-up-the side pants?? Guess I'll wear whatever's more comfy at closer to the time to go.

Ciao!

Re: I'd like to go- but
WOW! Rose put on a STUNNING performance last night- she sounds better than ever and looks great and happy. Got an interview w/ her the night before on a local college radio station- about 40 minutes!

She played acoustic guitar, as did one other guy, and had a bassist, who also switched off on guitar and some other "celtic" looking instrument, and a cellist (who is amazingly gorgeous!) and one bongo drum during a couple songs.

They did Let There Be Thorns, To Drown A Rose, Voices(which was uber-intense! "If I Had A Gun, We'd All Be Dead"!- she started screaming it as the music rose- just amazing!) and ended w/ Since Yesterday, which she wasn't sure she was going to play before the show.

They played for about an hour and half and the crowd was so respectful and quiet, except for one annoying guy trying to sing along out loud w/ every song directly behind me. If I was a violent type, he would be having his jaw wired shut today cuz I would have loved to smash him in the mouth. It's one thing to sing along, but at least know the words, and please, don't scream and SING IN KEY OR SHUT UP!!!!

Anyway, ran into many friends, some old, some new, some current, etc. Ran into my ex-beau and his friends and that went really well- we're friends again.

A great night was had by all and I think Rose was surprised at the turnout! Good size crowd, though nothing like a jam-packed crowd when Nina Hagen plays or someone.

Anyway, a grand day to everyone!

AND another cover of a DIJ or possibly C93 (certain songs get all confused in my head w/ all thee different versions and such!) song, which I'm spacing on at thee momeant. Sounds like a memorable performance. Speaking of the 'Wicker Man Song', what interests me is that Michael Cashmore credits it on the album as being a 'traditional song', when it is in fact a cover of 'Willow's Song' from The Wicker Man soundtrack, composed by the forgotten musician Paul Giovanni. Presumably when the Nature & Organisation album was made in 1994, information about the soundtrack was scarce, and they assumed that it was all traditional material, which is in fact only true of a couple of the items.

The soundtrack for The Wicker Man has obviously been an influence on a lot of this circle; its success is in seeming traditional when it is actually manufactured. Giovanni's singing voice sounds plausibly Scottish/Irish, when he is in fact American. Incidentally, Rose McDowell's voice often sounds the opposite to me: Scottish yet American-tinged.

She has a very thick accent in person, it is SO cute! She's so tiny too! I know what you mean about The Wickerman Song, but don't have an answer.

OH- BTW, Faun Fables was AWFUL and luckily we missed the first band, who everyone said was even worse. To me it's hard to imagine being worse than what I witnessed of Faun Fables last night. Yeee-UCK!:evil
