Salem Mall- Early Christmas Shopping
The car park was pretty full for the first weekend in December but hopefully Lachlan could get everything done today, that would mean he’d avoid the whole Christmas rush that he always went though every other year. Lachlan could sometimes get pretty slack when it comes to shopping, other things he could get done quickly, but shopping wasn’t the easiest of all tasks for the young surfer.
Locking the driver’s side door of his red Sandman, Lachlan reached down to a side pocket, which rested around the knees of his brown three quarter shorts. Sure, it was winter but rarely did Lachlan go out wearing pants, unless it was for an important reason, or it was completely freezing. Even when he was younger and his mother would force him to wear pants, he’d just run off and change into shorts, though most of the time he’d get caught out and those few times he wasn’t Lachlan would find himself with a nasty cold.
Out of his pocket Lachlan pulled out his wallet, it was fairly old and that could clearly be seen from the fraying edges, but he had gotten for his birthday many years ago. Opening it he reached into the section where his notes of money were placed, his fingers flipped past the notes and pulled out a small piece of paper. It had clearly been teared off a larger sheet of paper since one side of the small note looked rather ripped.
While he walked from the car park to the entrance of the shopping mall he read his list of people he had to buy Christmas presents for; his mother, his father, Shalimar and a number of his mates. He had a few ideas on what to buy most of the people on his list but had no clue on what to buy Shalimar. She wasn’t into stuff that most girls her age liked, she was more independent and she hadn’t dropped him any hints on what she wanted as of yet. That was the main reason why he came here, maybe he if spent the day browsing through shops he might find something.
Walking through the sliding doors he stood in the entrance and his blue eyes scanned the shops around him. There was a CD store, a few clothes shops, a book store and a sports store. That’s it, he could get her a CD! … Only if he knew what CDs she wanted… He knew some of the types and bands she listened too, but wasn’t fully sure on what CDs she dad and didn’t have.
The book store was also a no-go place, there were people queing outside, each person holding the same book. Obviously there was some big shot author inside signing copies of his books. It was clear that it was a guy since many of the people were girls giggling and waiting excitedly for their turn to see the author.
The clothes shops didn’t really seem all that good either, one was a store that sold suits, another sold formal dresses, one sold all different types of swimsuits which had just been opened, Lachlan took note of the shop so he could come back and buy himself a new wetsuit later on. Another shop sold children’s clothes and the rest weren’t all that good. Deciding that he wasn’t going to find anything here he moved on from his spot, walking deeper into the mall, passing random shops, just like Hot Topic.
