Slowly, but surely, getting there!
Hi all, thought it was about time to provide an update here. I saw Mr A again yesterday for a check-up - and it feels like we've finally broken the back of this chronic iritis in my left eye. It's taken 18 months on MTX, but things are quieter than they have been. I'm not off the drops yet, but have definitely reduced the amount of drops needed. I'll see him again in 4 months, and all being well we'll see from there.
The immunosuppression physician I also see at Mayday mentioned that Mr A has very recently become Prof A! I only found out after my appointment, though, but am thrilled for him.
In much less exciting news, though, I've had joint problems more on than off since the beginning of the year so am about to ask for my next referral to a rheumy. Mr A (habit!) confirmed my strong suspicion that it's likely to be ankylosing spondylitis. It means that if things continue we'll be looking at humira in my nearer future rather than MTX. The fun never ends...
glad things are finally looking up for you!
often MTX is continued while on the Biological Response modifier drugs.
I know that doctor Foster usually uses Remicade with MTX to get the really stubborn cases quiet, off all steroids.
that is great news about Professor Ayliffe, I send people to him all the time and this increase in the stature should help get the respect he deserves. like you it will be a tough road to me since I am so used to calling him Mr.
Getting there....
Really pleased about your eyes, Anke, and sorry to read about your joints. It's a pity that the methotrexate alone didn't take care of your joints as well as your eyes. Glad that humira has been offered and hopefully it will work better for your joints. Of course, I wish you didn't need to consider adding it at all.
It was good news for me this morning - better seeing eye inflammation free and seeing 6/6. The Prof gave a little clap! It was a welcome change from the mid January drama and although I knew I began to see better two weeks or so ago, I hadn't realised I saw that much better, almost two lines better!
It was great to read that Mr A is now a Prof too.
Hope you get fixed up with a rheummy soon. I thought you acquired one last year?
Re: Getting there....
Wow, Maxine, 6/6! That's brilliant, a definitely deserves a clap!! Long may it continue...
I acquired the immunosuppression physician last year when my liver function tests went for a bit of a loop. I wasn't sure exactly what his title was for a while, but I had the chance to read through my notes on Monday which was interesting! We've decided the best way for my notes to be timeously transferred between appointments (I see both specialists on the same day) is if I take them myself. They are duly handed to me in the eye clinic to be hidden away as I walk out...!
