So mad!!! so unbelievably mad!!!!!!!!!!!
OOOOH!!!!! My day has been awfullly bad today!!!! My teacher grates my nerves just thinking about it!!!!
I got my geography paper back today and i got 20% (sure i deserved a low grade, but my answers were good enough to pass!!!)
heres what happened:
First question of the paper, Well it was 8 marks and i got 3 marks (my only marks, entire paper was upon 15), I had ALL my points there... and did she award me my marks? NOOOOOO!!! She decides to take 5 marks off for "format"!!!! WHAT THE HELL!!!!!! HAS ANYONE!!! EVER HEARD OF A FORMAT FOR ANSWERING A QUESTION?!?!?!?!?!?! Does that mean she would have awarded 5 marks to me if i had gotten the "FORMAT" correct and my CONTENT wrong?!?!?!?! The main idea is that i DID compare the 2 things being compared and she goes on about FORMAT????
2nd questions, i totally misintepreted it, fine with me... but do you what SHE did??!?!?! She gave someone who had the same answers as i do 3 marks and gave me a big fat ZERO!!!!! What is this? BIAS-NESS?!?!?!?!?!
3rd point!!!!! Her phrasing was so VAGUE!!!!!! The WHOLE class misintepreted her and she still thinks she's so great! Argh! It just makes me sick!!! No Offense to any teachers here, but i now reallllllllly HATE teachers, she's so bias! and she makes her test questions so misleading, shes not even a good teacher to begin with! AND!!! SHE ALWAYS THINKS that she's RIGHT!!!! SHE's inconsiderate to the feelings of others (we have overseas scholars in my class and she OPENLY bashes their countries!!!). Right Now I feel like writing a complaint letter straight to the Ministry of Education (not the school) to complain about her!!!!! I am that MAD!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no pheob, sorry to hear that, I went to school a long time ago, but i do remember one teacher in particular, that was like yours. its like she was out to get me. I dont know about formatting questions properly. But what i can say is what happens if you speak to your teacher and ask her why it was graded that way for a better understanding. I do know if you try and let the teacher know your serious about this, ask maybe extra credit work, or something like that maybe she will see that you are trying.

Sorry to hear it. I agree, speak with her and ask her about grading and why she didn't state what the expected format would be if that was a factor in the grading. She may have just made a mistake with some of the points, she is after all human. What kind of school are we talking (college? High School?).

I agree completely you need to talk to the teacher. If there is any bias going on, you need to try to address it right away. If there is no bias then maybe she can explain why she graded the paper the way she did.

Re: So mad!!! so unbelievably mad!!!!!!!!!!!
Hiya, another bad day to add to the list!!!!>:
ok for yesterday's event, yes im in a high school and that the class addressed that problem with her and she's NOT budging! argh!!
Today i had a talk with my seniors abt a problem we have our teacher in charge (for co-curricular activity) and we were supposed to organise a camp (3 day) and she comes to us and says the camp's cancelled and we're only allowed a day camp!!!! and she doesnt bother to explain! So our seniors try talking to her and she won't budge... and they come here on the excuse of hearing us out, giving us false hopes that we may still have the camp (tho my gut feeling said they were here to console and convince us, which was right)
So we give them a whole list of reasons why the camp is beneficial and they twist the whole thing around and start blaming us for being resentful! geez!! BUT they don't care that we're being resentful coz the teacher has NEVER explained her decisions to us for ALL her decisions made from June 2002! The moment she gets a call from a parents, she blames US (when its obviously the girl's fault) that the girl doesnt like the CCA!! Worse of all, she allows the girl back in and that girl NEVER EVER COMES!!!>:
I am soooo mad!!! If this carries on, i think i'll need a straight jacket!!>:

:(

I'm so sorry about all of this frustration. Perhaps a parent might be able to get through to this teacher. Sometimes adults are more willing to listen to other adults.

It's worth a shot...

I agree, you all tried to work this through in an adult mannor. Now its time to get an adult invloved. One that won't just back down and believe whatever she says. One that understands teachers are just people and they can be wrong.

Re: So mad!!! so unbelievably mad!!!!!!!!!!!
well about my geography teacher, there's really nothing much we can do, since the school sides with their teachers almost 99.9999% of the time. The last time we petitioned when a teacher forgot to set our tests and gave us some test to complete in a short frame of time (30mins..doing a comprehension and summary in 30 mins..), the school ended up not doing anything constructive.
About the other teacher, well she says its the school principal's orders. But what we're really mad about is that she doesnt bother to explain why, leaving us hanging there in the air, not knowing why and whats wrong. So right now we've resigned to our "fate", having a day camp, thank god we're quitting the Red Cross soon, can't stand having to see her any longer.
Im finally glad that i got a good day today lol! i got my elementary maths paper back and i managed an A lol... one good thing to cheer abt at least;)

Sorry to hear about all your problems with the teachers Phoebs. I have to agree with the others here and either try to talk to this teacher - privately, one on one, letting it be known up front that you're not there to critize her, you're just looking for an explanation. If you get cocky or show resentment, that's only going to give that teacher more ammo and fuel her attitude toward the whole thing about only her being right.

Or, get parents involved. I've got two teenagers myself and I had an "unpleasant" teacher in school too and you're right, the majority of the time the school will side with the teacher. But, many times they're more willing to listen to a parent. Parents pay taxes, which in turn, pays their salaries.

Also keep in mind, that school officials often make decisions and relay those decisions to the teachers without an explanation or the teacher maybe in a position where she's not allowed to elaborate the reasons behind such decisions. Now, I don't particulary agree with that practice, but yes, that is the way it is handled sometimes and it stinks. It only leaves the students confused and frustrated, as you've well experienced.

Meryena, you're right in saying that schools will listen to parents.... the moment the parents calls, the schools bends all over, trying so hard to please him/her lol. I've seen it happen. haha
Well about the explanations part, the main part which irritates us is that she explains her reasons to my seniors, yet she refuses to tell them to us. We had to hear her reasons from our seniors. If she had told us straight her reasons, both sides wouldnt have wasted close to a month on just trying to settle on the camp matters and that our seniors wouldnt have had to waste their time coming down here. Moreover some of her reason were kinda odd and rather personal lol.So what is odd is that she hands us a unit of 50+ cadets to run and yet refuses to accept ANY of our proposal. We're trying to organise a bake sale to raise funds for people whose lives have been affected by SARS and she's trying to block that right now. And again when we asked for a reason, all she would say is that the school won't allow it. On both occasions, this was all she would say, but the moment our seniors intervene, she tells them everything. I mean who does she want to have directly in-charge of the unit? my seniors who are in another school (pre-u , im in secondary school) or us where the juniors(her as well) can see us everyday. And the weirdest thing is, she was the one who suggested we have a bake sale to raise funds, so personally i think she owes us an explanation about why we can't go ahead with it since the reasons aren't confidential, considering she was able to fill my seniors in about her reasons.
Anyway for now, we're giving in to her until she decides to do the same thing with us alllllll over again...

Re: So mad!!! so unbelievably mad!!!!!!!!!!!
Hiya
well yesterday that teacher (my CCA teacher) acts up 2 different acts again, one in front of us and another in front of our seniors.
well we asked for permission to extend our day camp to 9pm to allow for more games and she says no, 8.30pm is the latest, so we accept it. Then my senior comes and talks to her over something different and then she tells my senior she allowed us to extend it till 9pm. And the senior comes back extremely irritated, questioning us if we wanted the extension till 9pm>:
And she's(my senior) getting on our nerves i mean she only bothers to look from the teacher's point of view.. what abt ours?
so anyway, we planned our programme (a rough sketch) and we were deciding at what time the guests had to be seated for a camp night (hence the extension), we were thinking 3-something in the afternoon, then we're called out and we left it at 3:__ and she immediately assumes we're making them come at 3pm when the programme starts at 3.45pm. geez.. and she used to make us do corporal punishment for assuming, talk abt her! And then she asks who we're inviting when the ppl in charge of the event (me and my friend) havent even had the chance to sit down and talk abt the camp nite exclusively, no other components of the camp....so naturally we didnt have the chance to talk abt the guest list. I mean we only had 3 hours to discuss and we spent it on adjusting all our programmes which was a major hassle, and she expects us to have a full detailed proposal written on the whiteboard for her to read in 3 hours?!?!?!:strange
and the last time she came to talk to us, she actually called us IMMATURE:rant <---- what we were like, when she was around (OFF) and when she left (ON) lol Oh well.. the ppl we have to deal with.... what a bother..
