________________________________________

I’m new at this, so I bet this one will be bad.
Name: Benjamin Rogers
Nick Names: Ben
Code Name: Soldier
Affiliation: None as of yet, but loosely associated with the Avengers and SHIELD through family ties.
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Birthday: August 23rd
Hair: Sandy Blonde
Eyes: Brown
Mother: Sharon Carter, S.H.E.I.L.D. agent, deceased.
Father: Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, deceased.
Godfather: Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, alive

Physical Description: Roughly 6 foot 3 inches in height, and weighting 250 pounds. Soldier keeps his hair cut slightly longer than military length for the ease of hair care. He is very well muscled and looks like he spends a lot of time in the gym. Despite his size, there is no mistaking that his muscle mass is mostly athletic. Normally he seems like a nice, easy going guy, but there are a handful of acts that will set him off.

Soldier speaks in a steady baritone voice. When conversing with most people, it is the kind of voice that carries strength and confidence in both himself and in others. It also is the kind of voice that instantly gets everyones attention. He tends to carry himself with the slightly springy step of a boxer.

Powers: The son of the most revered warriors in American history, Ben has roughly the same abilities as his father. This means that every physical talent is superior to that of an Olympic athlete. In short, his abilities are as far as a human beings can be developed without being considered superhuman. Technically, he is not an enhanced human but rather the very pinnacle of human physical potential.

Soldier is able to lift roughly 900 pounds of weight under maximum effort in a military press above his head. He is capable of running 18-20 miles per hour for hours on end. His body also eliminates almost all fatigue poisons, making him nearly tireless. His immune system is very resilient, but it does not grant him immunity from diseases, and if he is hurt he can only heal slightly faster than a normal man. He is also very stubborn, and this in combination with his advanced physiology makes him extremely resistant to overt mental assaults.

His agility and flexibility are also slightly superior to that of an Olympic athelete.

Mentally, Soldier’s subconscious is always coming up with various tactical and strategic responses to threats. It is not known if this is really a power, or if it is a personality quirk resulting form his childhood. Such responses are along the lines of what areas offer cover, which areas could block bullets, where a sniper could be set up, etc.

Genetic tests performed on Soldier while he was a baby showed that his abilities came about through the Super Soldier serum of his father’s activating normally recessive genes. Nobody is sure if this means that Soldier is a mutant or not. If there are any more advanced tests done on him during play, they will result in a determination that Soldier is not a mutant. Rather the Super Soldier Serum works through the use of a retro virus that bonds with a persons genetic material.

Abilities:
Fighting Skills: Soldier was trained at a young age in hand to hand combat by his father. He has had additional instruction throughout the years and is now one of the best, and most dangerous, unarmed fighters on Earth.

Shield: Soldier has his father’s trademark shield. It has changed in appearance where the blue background is now black, with the red stripe and white star. Of course, if soldier wants to he can scrape the paint off and put another design on it. It is 2 ½ feet across, indestructible and aerodynamic. It composed of an alloy of vibramium and adamantium with an unknown x-factor combined with it. The vibramium allows the shield to absorb immense impacts, like the Hulk pounding on it, without transferring that impact to its wielders body. Soldier has trained with the shield for years to the point where he can use it as unconciously as he would a part of his body.

Uniform: Soldier normally wears plain jeans and a t-shirt. He wears black jeans and shirts if it is night. He also always carries a backpack containing his shield, explosives, a knife, a first aid kit, and a .45 pistol. The backpack also contains a plain black Kevlar body suit capable of withstanding light machine gun fire.

Firearms Training: Soldier was trained in the use of firearms by his mother. He is an expert marksman with a pistol, rifle, shotgun and submachine gun. He does not like using firearms because he views them as the tools of an inferior warrior. He also thinks that it is way to easy to hurt the wrong person with them.

Tactical Training: Soldier is an outstanding tactician, often able to best adversaries stronger, better armed, and more ruthless than he is. He has also been trained by friends of his parents as a pilot, diver, and medical corpsman.

History: Ben was born to one of the world’s foremost superheros and one of America’s best special agents. Ben was born less than a year after Captain America retired from the public eye. Cap was afraid that all of the enemies that he made would hunt down Sharon and their child and attempt to use them against him. He decided that the safest option was to work in a less active role. After Ben's birth, Sharon also retired from SHEILD to raise her son. Both subjected their son to severe training on the off chance that one of their enemies could find them.

During this time, Ben had a mostly normal childhood. His parents moved to a small town in the midwest. He and his parents lived several miles outside of town. Going to school, Ben was found to be highly intelligent and was well liked by his peers. There were many exceptions to his mostly normal childhood. The main exceptions were that in addition to school work he also had training in fighting, evasion, search and rescue, and firearms training from his parents. Ben didn't think that this was strange at first, until he realized that most parents did not teach their children about various martial art techniques or how to disassemble a bomb.

It wasn't until he was 8 years old that he asked his parents why they were teaching him all of this. His parents took him down into a basement that he never knew existed, and showed him several newspaper clippings, citations from various governments and agencies, and photos. It was explained to Ben that some genetic testing that was done on him to see if he was healthy turned up some peculiar results. It appeared as if he would have the same physical abilities as his father, but Ben had never been subjected to the Super Soldier Serum. It was impossible to determine if this meant that the Serum only awakened a latent power within Captain America in World War Two, or if his son had lucked out in his genetic inheritance. Ben understood why he wasn't told of his parents past, but he felt as if he could have been told sooner. Yet this revelation had one unexpected side effect. Ben's parents showed him this in the hopes that it would drive home the need for training and vigilance. Instead, Ben could not concieve of anybody attempting to take on a super hero like his father had been while also having to deal with one of SHIELD's finest agents of her day.

This life of hiding worked until the government started talking about the mutant menace. Seeing the direction the government was considering and the fear that was driving it, Captain America stepped into the public eye before Congress to argue against the registration and detention of mutants. He also resumed his role as field commander of the Avengers in an attempt to calm public hysteria. Sharon Carter started asking some of her old contacts what all the government was doing to mutants in the name of national security. Using this information, they were going to try to start a public relations campaign to get public support on the side of mutants.

Unfortunately, their fear of old enemies had not been misplaced.

The Red Skull had apparently adopted a similar tactic of laying low and hiding, allowing the world to think that he was dead. When he saw that his oldest rival was still alive and supporting what the Skull viewed as an inferior species, he decided to make an example of Cap.

In front of a subcommittee discussing mutants, the Skull had several mutant mercenaries that he hired attack the subcommittee and Cap. While the cops and Cap fought with these foes, the Skull took some of his own troops to kill Sharon Carter. Ben was 12 years old when the Skull and his troops assaulted his home and killed his mother. Before this day, Ben thought that his parents were a little nuts to teach him various forms of combat and the usage of firearms. After all, his dad was Captain America, who would be insane enough to look for a fight with one of the most dangerous fighters on Earth? Ben had never really considered that he would need that training for a life and death situation. Since he had never thought about actually using them, he froze when he saw that these skills were needed. He saw his mother die from the Skull breaking her neck.

Ben was abducted and used as bait in a trap to for Cap in a steel factory. The Red Skull assumed that Ben would be as easy to restrain as any ordinary 12 year old, and left only a few guards to keep watch on him.
Ben managed to escape and render his guards unconscious. At the same time, Captain America had made his way to the steel factory and was fighting the Red Skull. Ben ran to help his father against the Skull, but the skull managed to pull a gun and aim it at Ben. To save his son, Captain America tackled the Red Skull and knocked him into a vat of molten steel. Yet this victory cost the Captain his life as well, because the Skull refused to let go of his hated foe. The only remains found in the vat when the steel was drained was a familiar shield, with the blue burned black.

Without such a dramatic figure from history to aid in the effort, the government was able to ignore the plight of mutants after a time. During the next 10 years, Ben started to train with old friends and allies of his parents, dedicating his life to standing up for their values and beliefs. He thinks that it is the only way for him to find penance since he believes that it is his fault that they died since he wasn’t strong enough.

He stayed for a while with his father's friend Clint Barton, better known as the marksman Hawkeye who Steve and Sharon had designated as Ben's godfather. Ben learned a lot more about about armed combat from Clint, especially blades and ranged weapons. While skilled in this regard, Ben still perfered hand to hand combat, in part because he had few peers in the area. Clint was his legal guardian until Ben turned 18. Before the incident with the Skull, Ben had been an outgoing, popular kid. Yet he soon lost his friends since they couldn't understand what he had been through. In short, his childhood died the same day that his parents did. He has not been able to get into any real relationship with a girl because he is afraid of what might happen to them because of his parentage.

He also looked up friends of his parents in various military units and learned how to use various weapons, equipment, and skills from each of them. He also took advantage of the fact that his father had at one time been the field leader of the Avengers and learned from some of them as well, including spending a summer in the mystical realm of Asgard by the side of the Avengers resident powerhouse, Thor.

His grades were good enough to qualify him for a scholarship to go to college, but he felt as if college would restrict him from aiding other who needed his help. Clint Barton argued that his parents wouldn't want to see their child risk his life for those who made a mockery of their names and deeds. Ben asked how they could have expected otherwise considering that he is his mother's and father's son.

He has traveled the country for the last few years fighting injustice and evil wherever he finds it. This has led to altercations with various entities and groups including the Friends of Humanity and ocassional skirmishes against lone Brotherhood operatives. He has also traveled outside of American boarders. His most memoriable fight to date has been against what was a drug cartel in Columbia. He basically disrupted the cartel's operations until it's head came to meet him while he was burning a drug field.

This man was a mutant who only went by his last name of Hernandez. He told Soldier that he viewed mutancy as the next step in mankind's progression to godhood, with the more powerful mutants deserving of the worship of lesser mutants. Hernandez stated that he viewed his supplying of the world's streets with drugs analogous to putting out poision for rats. When Soldier attempted to apprehend Hernadez, Hernandez activated his mutant power to transform into an immensley powerful draconic being. Solder did not win that battle, but by some miracle was able to evade Hernadez in the jungle.

Upon returning to the United States to recover, he learned of the abduction of mutants by the Agamemnon Corp., and is considering paying them a visit.

Personality: Soldier is normally a quiet, humble young man. He does a lot more listening than talking, in part because additional knowledge aids him in making plans. He also doesn't talk much because it tends to make his enemies think that he is not as smart as he is, thereby underestimating him.

This calm facade hides a mind and soul tormented by guilt. He knows that he could have helped his mother against the Skull’s troops if he had acted right when the fighting started instead of allowing them to get the drop on him. He knows that his father would still be alive if he hadn’t had tried to help him. In Soldier’s mind, no matter how many people he helps or saves, he will still be a failure. He also has little fear because he thinks that the most horrible thing that could happen to him has already occurred.

The only time that he is able to forget about the past is when he is battling powerful forces that seek to harm humanity. Such threats are the only beings that he can truly unload on, and as long as it won’t put anyone else in danger he throws himself into the fray with glee. This is a rare occurance, since normally there are other people relying on him. In such situations, he falls back on his skill and training to take out his opponents as efficently as possible without risking those around him.

Unlike his father, Soldier is willing to kill an enemy that he thinks is beyond redemption and is too dangerous to live. A part of him blames his father for not doing so with the Red Skull, for if Captain America had killed the Skull none of Soldier’s emotional harm would have happened. Exercising this option is never his first preference, and if he has to do it he will spend a lot of time asking himself if it was really the right thing to do.

Likes:
His motorcycle, back-up plans, the ideals America was supposed to represent, cracking the heads of evil beings, training, sitting in empty churches after all of the hypocrites have left, aiding my friends and the common person on the street, working on motorcycles and vehicles, reading anything he can get his hands on, girls in general.

Dislikes:
A severe dislike for fascism in any shape, form or fashion. He understands and supports their right to gather and their freedom of speech, but he hates it when such people try to advance their goals through governmental action or terrorism. This leads to some severe head butting with both the Brotherhood and the Friends of Humanity, both of which he hates. Those who merely sit on the sidelines while a battle is raging. Those who value there own neck above others. Severe dislike for those who value fashion over functionality.

Sample Post: Ben was tired. Part of it was the drenching downpour, and how it muffled all of the sounds of the night. Part of it was that Ben felt as if the New York buildings were leering down at him. Some of it was probably the stinking vomit that the wino at the other end of the alley deposited on his hiking boots. The fact that he was just standing in an alleyway to stakeout some of the security members of Agamemnon Corp. instead of kicking in the bar door and beating some information out of members might have been some of it to.

Mainly, Ben just felt tired since it had been 4 days since he had slept.

See, that was the hard part of working without anyone to help you. If your gut told you that these two security guards were up to no good, but you had nothing but suspicion that something bad might happen, it meant that if you were a good little vigilante you had to keep an eye on the bad guys all buy your lonesome self.

“Well, I doubt this is the life my old man would have wanted me to have,” muttered Ben. “Wandering around and trying to fight a never ending war against injustice without any close friends or allies. Heck, Dad was smart enough to have the Avengers guarding his back at least.”

The door to the bar opened a slight crack, and Ben instantly crouched behind a nearby dumpster overflowing with trash. His black clothing helped to blend him into the shadows, and the smell of the refuse would be enough to discourage anyone from coming near.

Out of the door came two of the ugliest people that Ben had ever seen. It was as if whatever had created these two had only the vaguest idea of what normal humans should look like, and it hadn’t followed those guidelines very well. Yet it wasn’t the appearance of their faces that enraged Ben so much.

No, that would be the bound and gagged woman between them. Considering the fact that she had orange skin and a pair of antennae on her forehead, Soldier figured that it was a safe bet that she was a mutant. She also looked as if she wasn’t over thirteen years old.

“Tell me, brother, why can’t we also gather a normal female to play with tonight?” asked the short ugly one.

“Cause last time there was an investigation, and investigations aren’t good this close to headquarters,” replied the taller one, “Anyway, they can’t use regular humans off the street for the experiments. Don’t worry, if an experiment with this one fails, we’ll get to play with hergghh!!!!!!!”

It was amazing how swiftly the seven foot muscle head shut up after a 12 pound shield hammered him in the jawline. Ben ran towards the other one, catching his shield as it ricocheted off of the alley walls. He leapt and hit the smaller ugly with a snap-kick to the forehead, which would have been enough to drop any normal man.

Amazingly enough, ugly one and two were able to get back on their feet and stand up.

“How the….,” Ben asked himself in amazement. Theoretically, the one Ben hit with his shield should have had a broken jaw and the one he kicked should have a concussion at the least. Instead, both of them climbed up to there feet and stood as if they had been hit with nothing more severe than a bean bag. There was something more than merely human at work here. When they stepped into the light, it was apparent that the skin was hanging off of there faces where they had been hit, exposing scales. As Ben stood there absorbing this strange sight, both tore free of the rest of there disguises to reveal decidedly inhuman forms, somewhere between an insect and reptile.

“What the hell are you things?” Ben asked rhetorically. One laughed while the other answered, “Hell is the precise word. Perhaps a better question is what can a Captain America wanna be do to us?”

Part of Ben's mind wasn’t just standing there doing nothing. It was instinctively analyzing the creature's physiology and anatomy, checking for strengths and weaknesses. This mental inventory told Ben that the scales would work as makeshift armour, probably giving them more protection from melee attacks than his Kevlar but less than his shield. There hands were clawed, giving them some blades as well. Soldier was willing to bet some serious money that they were tougher than he was physically. However, their bodies conformed to the same upright bipedal symmetry as a human, leaving them vulnerable to the same joint locks and throws at the very least.

The short one, if such a term can be used to describe a creature standing six and a half feet tall, charged right at Ben, arms flailing around. Soldier dropped to the ground while grabbing one of the monster's arms. Before its body hit Soldier, the young fighter put his back to the front of the monster and heaved it over at the wall, using the creatures own weight and momentum against it. The monster's skull and back hit the wall and knocked loose some bricks. The second one came charging at Soldier from behind, so Soldier grabbed the first creature's ankles and used it as a ball bat, laying both enemies out on the ground. The taller of the two started to get up, but was met with a swung shield under the chin, jerking its entire body upright. This left it with its head thrown back with both arms stretched out at the side, leaving its body open to a succession of swift blows, ending with the monster having several broken ribs.

While Ben was busy with this, the first creature tried to sneak up behind him, until Soldier dropped the taller monster and glared over his shoulder at it. The creature looked at this blood spattered young man for about half of a second, noticed that neither it nor his larger friend had even scratched the guy, and that this fella wasn't even breathing hard. The creature held its ground for half of a second before it started to limp off as fast as it could move. The monster made it halfway down the alley before its leg was broken by a black, white and red blur which the creature only later realized was this fighter's shield.

All together, the whole fight lasted less than 30 seconds.

Ben grabbed the big one by the throat with his left hand and lifted him off of the ground, all 400 pounds of scale and fang. The monster was in so much pain that it could barely think. It started to mumble about how it didn't matter how many of them there were in that school, it's master would destroy all of them eventually.

After Ben finished questioning both of them, he thought about what these monsters had told him. He remembered stories that his dad and mom told him about a place for those who were different. A place for society’s outcasts. Ben decided that it might be worth the effort to check in on this place. If nothing else, they might have some more information about Agamemnon Corp.

Re: Soldier
Ann was going to swing by and mention something, she's probably half way through typing it but she disappeared from MSN! Anyway, Michael Grant is another player already in use, so you'd probably be better off choosing another name (or suffer Ann's wrath! :evil )

I'm going to take this home and reply to it tomorrow, so I'm about to run off right now (I'm at a net cafe). Look back tomorrow for more replies!

Hiya And thats not bad at all for someone wo says they dont know what they're doing:D

I have one request which is a personal one I have a char called Micheal Grant (just a coincidence Sorry)soo any chance you could change the first name to avoid confusion,??

Now the first thing that needs to be fixed is the sample post .Its fine its more than fine but it changes to first person half way through.:D A

part from that .....not to many obvious problems.

More info on how Soldier felt about his early life and what he did during the years after his parents death. would be nice. Who did he live with after that? Did he have friends at school , girlfriends that sort of thing??? Anything you can add in like that would be great.

Look forward to playing with you!!

Okay, I changed the first name. There is not much I can do about his last name since his father is a canon charecter of the Marvel Universe.

I also added some about his childhood and who he lived with until he became 18.

Anything else I need to change?

Hello and welcome to NE,

I'll add an in-depth reply later on but for now I'd like to throw in the fact that technically, his abilities are on hold. I do admit that we've worded it reeeeally weirdly, so I'll rephrase it and would be willing to make an exception... especially since many characters have mysteriously disappeared thanks to their players going AWOL, so it should be ok.

More following shortly. :D

Hey Matt. Angie and I discussed the hold thng on MSN and decided that since she effectively plays almost all the chars who have abilities like this it would be all right to let soldier through.OOps We should have said that before. Sorry.

Angie: I don't play aaaall.... but with the Spider's and the Wolvie relations...and Spike and Dra-ok, I play a lot that seem to have the enhanced thing, but most are side line characters in any account *Nods* ...*hangs head guiltily* It's a very overused ability in marvelverse, let's blame them first and foremost!

Re: Soldier
Right, some detail... here it goes ^^

physical decription: it'd be nice if you added something about his voice and the way he moves here.

history:
- childhood: what was the relationship with his parents like? how much did the people in his social environment know about the "additional education" he got and his parents' identity? what about other relatives? did he have any? did they play any significant role in his life?

sample: you've got some really nice passages in there and I'm glad to see that you're more on the long side with your texts... muchly appreciated ;) However, you have to pay more attention to your tenses! I recommend you check-read everytime you're done to make sure you've not accidentally switched to present tense. At NE, we're only writing in past tense with the rare exception of dream sequences and the like.

Generally, this is quite a good bio... impressive for someone who's just started off.

You'll need one more stamp and editing/adding according to comments made to start playing.

The scenario you've set would be best for a bit after the beginning of the Criminal Offences (CO) plotline. Check out the right sidebar for details. Since it'll still be several weeks until we launch that story arc, it might be good to put up a second profile for someone that's easier to include in a...well... harmless plot ;) Just a recommendation though!

Re: Soldier
I agree, you put effort into this bio so I have no complaints. In additional to dreams where first tense is used, we also sometimes have the characters thinking, but we just don't over do it otherwise it gets confusing. Mostly we use past tense since throughout most boards and most writing communities that's how it's done, professionally speaking as well!

*stamp*

If you need anyone to post with, there's a new girl I'm aching to break into play, she isn't with anyone, a solo hunter of anything inhuman that's preying on innocents. Her name is Abigail Ashcroft click the name if you want a peek at her. She isn't a fully fledged hero or anything, but she got herself involved with vampires after one attacked her friend. She's still young and wild and doesn't know a soul at the board!

Otherwise it's best to drop a request in the New Threads - Participation Request and ask what sort of character or scenario you're hoping to start your character in.

Welcome to NE! *stamps one more time for goodluck*

Re: Soldier
Well there are two completely different situations you can easily find Abigail in.

Option A) is that Abby works in Nova Cafe, a new 'hip' cafe sort of place, a future student hangout that's only become accessable to the public since the 1st of March. Nova Cafe is a front for a foundation run by a man who brings in talented girls / woman and gives them the help they need in whatever training they require, from singing and music lessons to combat and weaponry skills and anything else his girls may need to exceed in their found skills. Abby works during the day often between 1pm and 6pm. With a half hour break at about 4:30. So you could either be served by her (there is a bar so they could take while he drinks or eats) or they could bump into each other as she finishes work, which follows on into the second option!

Plan B) for introducing your character is by perhaps him stumbling upon her at work during her nightly prowl. Abby isn't restricted to 'vampires' she goes after anyone who is preying on people in an area. New York is a busy place, it should be easy for her to stumble into a gang, maybe she's over her head and her luck is only so powerful, perhaps you happen by and that way Ben can save the day. She has no affiliation with Xavier's or anyone else though (other then Nova Cafe), and she isn't aware she's a mutant.

So, what do ya say to them options there? I'm up for starting the post to give you a layout of the scene, which ever one you choose, if you want some other options we can think over other choices! Those are just the most likely that I can see my character involved with! But I'm open to talks if you want more choices.

I think that I like the first option where they meet at the Nova Cafe the best. Exactly where is the Nova Cafe on the board anyway? I looked around for it a little and couldn't find where it was.

Matt killed it in a forum minimizing spree he had a while ago. *throws various glares* Heh, I actually added it into the clubbing forum's name since I'll be referring to it a lot. For more information on the Nova cafe and all other important affiliations, be sure to read this affiliation thread if you haven't already!!

I'll set up an intro thread tomorrow for you in the Dying Star Nightclub, Black Rose Bar, Nova Cafe, similar places forum.
