'Sonny' - Unique Sentinel Droid
…Must… have… characters…need… more… posts…
Take into note that Marvel has had MANY robotic characters (most not always so obvious and lost in the background) and so this isn’t a stretch of (Marvel) reality by introducing this character, I had an idea for the Criminal storyline and I just HAD to make a character from it XD

Feel free to be sloppy again! *waves hand dismissively* :p

Designation: NS-5
Nickname/s: Sonny
Code Name: Sentinel 04
Affiliation: US Government Task Force codenamed “Silver Hawks”
Legal Status: Registered Weapon of the US Task Force.
Occupation: Soldier
Race: Droid (Artificial Lifeform)
Place of Creation: US Sentinel Manufacturing Base.
Marital Status: Single
Gender: Although genderless, NS-5 does have a male voice imprint as his pre-programmed vocal. Thus he will always refer to himself as a ‘he’ and part of the male race.
Age: 1 year
Birthday: August 12
Hair: None.
Eyes: Two unique striking blue human like eyes.
Height: 6"0
Weight: 72.2kg

Other Physical Details: Armoured with a dense bullet-proof substance much like that of a mixture of plastic and glass alloy on his chest, head, arms (excluding from his elbows to his shoulders), and lower legs, strong black cables-like and metallic joints can be seen where the armour is not present. Hands and feet are metallic, his feet more like flexible shoes with heels.

Lifelike blue eyes are featured on his face, along with a nose and mouth, the durable plastic-like alloy used for his mouth is a complicated design that enables the NS-5 to move his facial features. This gives the Droid a chance to mimic human facial reactions with more realism.

NS-5 is able to shift his height between 5” and 6”3, this is done by expanding his ‘spine’, this doesn’t effect his functioning at all, it was a custom fitting feature developed to enable owners to decide the height of their helper. Special Workers where usually shorter then six feet but the military wanted them taller, so to save production money on different sized versions they released NS-5 with this additional option. NS-5’s automatic height is 6 feet, though the NS-5 can shift their height effortlessly and use this as a tool when a situation needing shorter or taller forms arises.

Slender and elegant, the slim robotic creature is extremely flexible, able to curl his form into ball, he however has no motor abilities to move about while rolled up. Which means NS-5 would have to rely only on the momentum he enters the roll with. Sonny is originally a Prototype for the NS-5 series, developed into a personal yet advanced working class robot and then upgraded to military class only by adding basic weaponry usage and handling as well as other military information (like how to fly many commercial and non commercial plans, etc). The difference compared to the mass produced military design is only Sonny’s additional programming for the detailed personality and vast space in which he has been given with added ability to ‘rewrite’ his files.

Although able to be with perfect posture and glide gracefully when walking, NS-5 can mimic the way others around him moves, to help integrate him further into the world around him and fit in better. Also able to alter his voice, record and then mimic that of others around him or blend voice patters to create a new one which is unique for him to use. NS-5’s core voice pattern was copied from his creator and blended slightly with one of the professor’s lab assistant’s that helped programme some of the more unique features of NS-5’s personality compared to the rest of the product line.

Just like a human’s muscle will go tense when stressed, NS-5’s joints can be seen shifting, tightening and turning slightly, automatically increasing the strength and durability of his arms. When ‘relaxed’ so to speak, NS-5 is of still above average strength but not at his full power, this is a safety feature developed to protect humans he is working with or any occasions when having close contact.

On a side note, his ‘healing’ isn’t anything fast, a tare in the metal a few inches long could take days to completely repair, so he’d still have to be repaired by a scientist, or himself since he is fully able to do so if given the proper equipment to work with. Sonny’s ability to heal mainly focuses on important areas that are damaged, as in many cases only the scientist at NAD would be able to repair the Sentinel otherwise. If his shell casing has been completely restored that doesn’t mean he has fully recovered, as his sensitive systems would definitely require over 24 hours to repair themselves (Or days if serious damage has occurred)

Mother: US Sentinel Manufacturing Facility / Factory / Still functioning…
Father: Simon Lydecker / Human (Programmer and designer) / Alive
Other Important Relatives:: All Droids similar to himself, especially the Silver Hawks.

Personality:
Curious, strong willed and independent. Sonny isn’t just a mindless machine, he has choices, he can abide by the law or break them completely. Sonny was never designed to be put in the public, Lydecker boosted his personality aspects and added phenomenal room for evolution and self improvement. This NS-5 can grow and evolve all the time and that gives him a sense of realism as he can learn what is important, and what drives humans in most cases. Emotional responses are possible, such as rage and sadness, fear and determination. He has a sense of understanding towards death and life, and cherishes life enough to wish to cause it no harm.

He hasn’t interacted with more then a handful of others, but he often does enjoy meeting new faces and interacting with people in general, even if all he does is sit in a room while they go about their daily chores.

There is an innocence to the Droid, a look of simplicity at times, and perhaps an occasional child like demeanour, but commonly he appears to be a mature and respectful individual. He takes note of others referring to him as ‘someone’ instead of ‘something’ and all things similar in nature. Sonny is blunt, and hasn’t yet learned the finer points of ‘white lies’ which can be a kinder response instead of an honest one which may cause harm or emotional pain. If he knows someone is going to use the information he gives them to harm others, then Sonny will refuse to respond, possibly giving remarks such as being uncertain and then leaving it at that.

The thirst for knowledge and acceptance drive him greatly, he’d rather befriend the entire human race then monitor and manhandle criminals. But his eagerness for friends won’t cause him to make foolish alliances with untrusting persons, he is intelligent and if he suspects something foul or is uncertain he prefers to take the cautious road instead.

Likes:
Ø        Humanity. It has his perks at times, humans are after all a highly entertaining, undoubtably complex collective of illogical creatures.
Ø        Colours. The more colourful and stronger in colours something is, the more noticeably Sonny would admire it.
Ø        Freewill. He feels he has a right to choice like any other, and doesn’t appreciate being told or treated any less then the humans around him.
Ø        Working. Well, he doesn’t like or dislike it, but when he has little else to do, Sonny appears quite content in amusing himself with chores.

Dislikes:
Ø        Harming life. This is more then just because of the laws programmed into him, he himself can’t explain it, but he’d rather self terminate then be forced to harm a living creature.
Ø        Being treated as property, or treated less because he isn’t human.

Powers:

The main offensive and defensive attribute NS-5 has is basically his strength and durability, quick reflexes and able to take off at high speeds in an instant, recorded to reach speeds of 60km per/h within moments if on a straight – and solid – path.

Intelligence may seem lacking at times due to his own remarks, but NS-5 is highly knowledgeable, just lacking a few skills towards human interaction, which he will pick up quickly if his present company doesn’t mind explaining their habits from time to time for him to understand.

NS-5 has many lower class skills, such as cooking, cleaning, building, repairing, he’s a house cook, fix-it man, personal cleaner, gardener, you name a chore and he’ll set about getting it done. He has an understanding for the law and unlike the rest of the mass-produced NS-5; he may choose to ignore the laws. This choice is a large part of the unique personality he has, because like any other living creature, this NS-5 has choice over his decisions.

The heart of NS-5 is a core unit that is a constant source of energy, encased within presumably near indestructible shell casing within his torso, both for the protection of the power unit and for safety reasons regarding curious buyers who might try and remove the core for other purposes. The only way known to disintegrate the casing around his core would be to expose it to a dense force field; the extreme pressure and energy would slowly deteriorate the alloy, but greatly risk a powerful explosion of the core unit or irreversible damage at least.

Time will be needed to recover from over exertion of his stored energy, but he would never need more then five hours to fully recharge from a serious depletion. When external damage is done it can be gradually repaired, another unique feature for this NS-5, because stored within the torso of his body is a small container, safely built just below the core casing, a less armoured shell surrounded it but still it was durable. Inside the 4cm wide and 6cm long tube is a large collection of tiny Nanodroids, their systems are hooked up to his own so they know exactly when and where he has been damaged and will be released to repair what has been effected.

They are able to self-replicate, which allowed them to use their own tiny metal forms to meld up the torn armour or other metallic sections of NS-5’s body. Since they are deigned with the same alloy it doesn’t effect NS-5’s armour, however if something serious happens… like his whole arm has been ripped off, then first NS-5 must attach the arm back, even if done very poorly, the Nanodroids can repair the circuits, but can not rebuild an entire arm. Emergency back ups of Nanodroids are stored within his positronic-brain, the highly advanced mechanical computer brain is heavily protected like the core unit. And though sever damage is unlikely, it is possible to receive brain damage from an extreme force of impact or electrical surges, and the protective casing would stop outside Nanodroids from entering to repair it right away, they’d have to pass numerous security checks to get in and out.

Jason, Professor Lydecker’s assistance, had downloaded a large amount of songs and music into NS-5’s memory, since the pet project was being done for Lydecker’s personal usage. Well, that and Jason found it amusing to have a half completed droid blurting out some of his favourite tunes when he was left to work on his own.

Also able to scan body heat, scan movement, zoom in and out on objects in view or things he’s recorded in his memory files, target and lock on things, water, ice and heat resistant (though extreme weather conditions can damage his functional abilities, exposure to incredible heat of course will be able to melt his complex circuitry and freezing will… well… freeze him!). In the dark he can see clearly with night vision, restricting him to seeing objects and people in a silvery hue however.

He also possesses a red light in his chest that automatically glows he is accessing outside computer systems that he has up linked himself to manually, this light can be operated by will regardless of him uploading or downloading information. When others try to access his systems the red light will begin to blink in warning.

NS-5 doesn’t carry any weapons and doesn’t possess any inbuilt weaponry; his only real weapon would be his strength and intelligence. But he does have detailed programmes explain on the usage of basically all weapons known to the humans of his world, it’s an emergency backup though, he still finds himself strongly following the three rules of his creators, consisting of basically not hurting humans, not following orders to hurt a human and to preserve himself, unless that’s going to result in the harm of a human in some way. So unless demanded to take a weapon and fight, NS-5 would be quite content in dealing with his troubles in his own way.

History: (Another dull, yet longish, and shifty history – Brought you by Angie Ltd.!)
The history of this Droid begins a long time before his actual creation; it actually begins even before his creator’s birth. The humans had gone to war for in the past and still continue to this day. It is these wars that are the true cause for NS-5’s creation, where first man used fists and strength, they used stones and wood, metal, powders and chemicals and soon began the inevitable combinations of all these things. All the time evolving, bigger, better, deadlier. Man verse their neighbours, friends, family, strangers, there was always a battle and shall forever be one, the terrible truth which haunts the human existence – the need for order and yet the passionate desire for freedom causing a constant struggle within humanities actions. A King’s freedom to choose to send his people to war for extra land was his own choice, and hundreds, if not hundreds of thousands, would die for the freedom of choice their leader exercised.

Human’s would take their weapons and charge out into the field, they would fight because they were told to do so and they would die with another man’s dream, or worse, live haunted by memories which plague them at night, at day, at every waking hour till they finally close their eyes and allow death to bless them with the, the wishful hope, that their suffering would end. But what happens when an order is given, and one - struck by morality or terror alike – be unable to fulfil the orders and complete the task they have been given? How many people have disobeyed an order? How many soldiers have become traitors to their own nations for any one reason? What better war could be created, what more efficient victories won, other then simply sending the weapons out, without their human counterparts? Bombs. Missiles. What good were there if the human behind their operation couldn’t handle the situation they were being forced to endure.

Perhaps somewhere in this equation the consideration of human lives may have been pondered, the chance that no more men would die for battles most of them individually barely understood the truth behind. This, however, would have most likely only been an after thought on the ever evolving need for deadlier and more precise, powerful, emotionless weaponry that could replace the often fragile human soldier. A soldier unable to feel, one that follows orders, doesn’t complained, doesn’t desire food, money, clothing, a simple order followed precisely and without hesitation. This dream was a soldier of perfection, this is what, over time, human’s strived to build. And now, some of these weapons, these destructive powerful tools of mankind, have now found a place within the US Government’s control.

Though not the first breed of Sentinel’s to grace a Task Force of any kind, these ‘new and improved’ models had new programs and new prime directives, a set of ‘Laws’ in which all have inbuilt as the core basis of their every actions. To keep the newest breed of Sentinel’s, the NS-5 series (Neophyte Sentinel version 5) were all simultaneously linked to a single massive mainframe which supervised, controlled and monitored all actions and commands which passed back and forth between the droids and the mainframe.

The creator of this next generation of mechanical warriors is a mane named Professor Simon Lydecker, who’s dream of creating the perfect artificial life was always crushed by lack of advanced equipment, poor funding and most of all a thousand and two problems which haunted his attempts of finding a suitable place to go about his business. The ingenious man had always been in love with machines and intrigued in the mysteries they carried. He studied them as a young lab assistant back when the first Sentinels where unleashed and worked with them since, helping create new and improved versions, he treated them like a father treats his children, getting the nickname ‘Father’ from his co-workers when they talked with the special Robots that Lydecker was working on, often resulting in the Machines calling Lydecker ‘Father’ themselves, so far none did this out of true emotional attachment however.

Lydecker’s crown achievements were the NS series, ‘Neophyte Sentinels’ series one had been directly linked to a computer that transmitted upgrades and commands, or other information, to the robots while out on the field. Most of the testing series the Lydecker worked on mimicked the simplicity of the old Sentinel’s.. When new NS models were designed Lydecker had been determined for them to add new features. Up until the NS-5, Droid features were very basic and primitive, the classical robotic simple face, no human features aside from the way the body was designed, legs, arms, hands and fingers, head, neck, similar shape, but simple still.

The new NS were finally permitted to be given human features on their face, they are the most advanced of the artificial life, and as a result – and also part of the agreement towards being allowed to build them – Lydecker and his company ‘New Age Design’ were obligated to mass produce thousands of them for world wide distribution. NS-5 were possibly Lydecker’s closest chance of making a machine more human then any other, but the money involved in creating the needed components for mass production was phenomenal and NAD (New Age Designs) refused to give him any further donations towards his project after the expenses NS-5 were causing them. Instead Lydecker worked on the personal Droid, the only surviving prototype that remained functioning in favour against the other designs showed to the military officials proclaiming them, the one the series had been based upon.

The first machine Lydecker had created for NAD was a intelligent computer with artificial intelligence that allowed it to grow and evolve so it was able to understand and learn, the computer was hooked into all the buildings systems, in fact the computer basically WAS NAD. It controlled everything, which helped secure Lydecker’s position in the company by giving them such an amazing system to help them, but it had been merely a prototype for a positronic brain that Lydecker was fascinated with, all the current models now possessed a rather simple and primitive form of this model.

Working with Jason Haffcoff, a young brainiac who – according to Lydecker of all people – needs to get out and see more of life instead of spending his entire youth mingling with machines and working on programmes and doing research. Jason was the only person who knew of Simon Lydecker’s dream and that the Professor had intentions on placing the newest and most powerful of his artificial brains into the Prototype NS-5 which the Professor had secretly spent time and effort upgrading. Unlike other Droids, this Prototype NS-5 was not up linked to NAD, so could not download new programmes nor could they force this NS-5 to heed their commands, it would be pointless for Lydecker’s study unless his NS-5 had complete free well, after all, he wanted the machine to be more human and humans never dealt well with captivity, the last thing he wanted was either NAD restricting this NS-5’s chances of learning and evolving or even worse risk him rebelling like any other free spirited man would do when confined by something or someone.

NS-5 was taken apart and then upgraded and gradually reassembled, already showing signs of curiosity uncommon towards machines, and to tell him apart from other NS-5 he was given blue eyes, amazingly realistic and spectacular in Lydecker’s opinion. Most others had light browns, almost a yellowish tinge, he was made a little stronger then others, but not too much, and it wasn’t done intentionally, the positronic brain and upgraded core increased productivity output and improved all functions and systems more then the Professor had expected. When a core dies, that’s it, the robot must be discarded and replaced, and since it only last the maximum of three years the Professor and also inserted a continuously energising core, something that was highly advanced but already available for other things in the most advance of robotic industries, due to the threat of malfunction robots had a three year lifespan for safety to stop them from getting old and obsolete, something that has happened in the past where machines have had their systems degrade and become dangerous to those around them.

The Professor isn’t sure yet what will come of his new Droid, he has high hopes but can’t be sure what to expect until he starts to see the Machine interacting with other people. Simon believed that even machines could possess a form of ‘soul’, that there’s more mystery to them then people understand or allow themselves to believe. Believing that just because they are not living doesn’t mean they aren’t ‘alive’. One day he hopes that his Droid, now affectionately named ‘Sonny’, would be the vital link in showing people that machines aren’t only a tool of war, but can be used productively and peacefully in the day to day lives of human life.

During the months of preparation and hard work, Sonny finally coming to his completion, final improvements were continuously made and added density to his armour given. Tests where run around the clock and most of the time the Droid was offline having one default or another fixed and removed or online learning the complex mannerisms of his human creator and the often wacky young assistant. Quite often Lydecker allowed NS-5 to follow him around instead of restricting the Droid to the lab, at least offering a small glimpse of life, seeing NS-5 interact with other NS-5 proved how different he really was to them, none had the same spark of life radiating off them like his perfected creation. There was a quicker connection with people as well, able to start right off by engaging in polite conversations with people instead of doing what most machines did and wait to either be addressed or merely ask if there was something they could do for the person. NS-5 was more tending to ask how they were and if it was a nice day outside, one of the lab assistants had said it was a lovely day every time, no matter the weather, the young female scientist explaining the reason she enjoys the current weather since each time NS-5 had wanted to know what made a day lovely.

Unfortunately all good things are doomed to end, one way or another, and this was no different, the US Department creating a ‘back up’ assistance force to the police or military (or whatever section the US officials require the needed assistance) this new Pride and Joy of the US was called “Code: Blue-Supreme”. A spin off an old and still active squadron of human officers trained to handle mutant menaces for the past twenty years. Although this new team of super soldiers were not restricted to mutant dilemmas, nor only for Police use, different fractions of ‘Code: Blue Supreme’ where split and assigned to different cities and various private Government Facilities. At the moment there are five hundred in Westchester County, the number is expected to triple by the end of the current year.

Due to understandable levels of extreme fatigue Lydecker had been given time off with his family during the days when the final shipment of NS-5 where being rounded from various testing areas and being sent off to be transported the final police stations waiting for the last batches of Droids till the end of year mass productions are complete. With all assistants ordered to locate and retrieve any and all NS-5 which had been removed from the storage room for tests and diagnostics it was unlucky that people knew of Sonny’s location in the Professor’s lab, assuming he forgot to return the NS-5 (of course unaware of all the personal advancements been made to it) two of the younger assistances entered the lab and escorted the unknowingly unique version to the rest of the NS-5 being taken away to New Yorks very own Department of Law and Order.

Re: 'Sonny' - Unique Sentinel Droid
Admit it, Angie, that’s all part of your slightly abstract (of course – since it’s based on thingy-logic!) plan to let New Evo appear more active so even more people come and join to… << … >> … aaaanyway *postpones conspiracy to later*
Off to the cheerful bio commenting… *looks lazy* yey for sloppiness! *makes mental note to try and be sloppy… has the feeling that won’t be overly difficult*

Phhh… *shakes head*… can’t believe you made a character off some robot in a movie you’ve most probably haven’t even seen (being away from civilisation and all) … this degree of obsessiveness is…very you, in fact :D
Come to think of it, didn’t you have some other robotic character that never really came into play…?

…marital status: single… well… duh, it’s a robot! And don’t start the whole Pinocchio thing on me… it’s making me all nauseous *glares at droid* .. what are YOU looking at? :evil

Personality: Maybe I’m just spoiled by your usually extensive info here but could you please expand this part a little? Has he more of a childish nature or did he “mature” fast enough to be considered a grown-up/has he been programmed as being one right from the start? Is he fully and consciously aware of the fact that he is not human? If so, does he still regard Lydecker as his father with everything normally connected to that?
Since Sentinels used to be used for mutant elimination, does his programme include such a command? Generally spoken, what does he and what does he not know about the world (say you put him into the centre of NY, would he stare in awe at cars and skyscrapers or does he know them – either by previous programming or actual sight?
Is he capable of the “key emotions” love and hate? You mentioned a few sentiments but there is still a difference between e.g. being angry at someone and hating him – it takes a more complex, deeper kind of personality, identification with the other etc. Is he prejudiced in any way – does he have a superiority complex (if applicable to druids)? Do the three rules you mentioned fall under the “follow the law or don’t” department or are they set and unbreakable? … yeah.. that’s basically all popping up at the moment…

Powers: You spoke of a power unit and its recharge but didn’t state how this was supposed to happen. So how does he recover his battery? Does he need an external source, any sort of “nutrition”, is there a little sun collector attached to the back of his hea-…:| *pictures that* … *rolls about laughing*
Hrm… aaanyway! If his main board got deleted, would there be a backup somewhere? Are his evolvements transmitted in any way?

History:
… *starts reading history*… hey, somebody discovered her love for intros! :D .. there’s actually only one thing that I’m not sure I got right *points at the very end* .. did the government decide to give Blue Supreme a backup of androids or were they supposed to BE like the next generation of BS?

There's nothing critical about that bio sooo *swings stamp*

*curiously watches Angie waddle off and return with a stool* … :| … *feels slightly pulled around and look at the thingy glaring at him* … um… *watches her waddle off again* … *blinks* … did she just… grow for a few seconds? … *scrolls up* … WHUAAAAAH!!! Angie is a robot, a sentinel, she’s gonna kill us aaaaaaaaall *panics and runs circles waving his arms wildly before hitting a wall and clonking out*
