Spellcrafting Tip's
Spent some time trying to locate some information about SC and finally found some good advice.
Taken from Tradeskill forum boards on VN:
"I'm on my second SCer, my first is Roast on Bors (check him out if you need evidence of my experience), my second is Stoneblood on Guin. Stoneblood is currently only at 916 skill but I have spent far less skilling him up than I did skilling Roast up. How? I took lessons learn from my first experience SCing and some experience gained by others that I found here on this very forum and came up with what I believe is one of the most efficient ways of skilling a SCer up. It's quite simple.
1 - Find a gem that is 9 points above your current skill, 10 points if no gems are only 9 points over your current skill.
2 - Make that gem until it is 6 points above your skill level.
3 - Go to step 1 and repeat.
Of course once you hit the x90's (ie. 90+ or 190+ or 290+, etc.) it's impossible to find gems 7+ points above your skill so in that case just make the highest skill gem that shows up in your recipe list.
Once you hit 700 (or if you are really cheap 600) SCing, start doing the trade skill quest and get the tools that give you a bonus to gain skills. I started doing the quest at 800 SCing because I felt it would be more efficient to simply farm the cash needed to craft than it would to spend it doing the quest. I did however spend less gold crafting from 800 to 900 using the tools so the quest is VERY worthwhile.
Oh and don't be afraid to lose gems. Remember it's far better to lose one and make 4 gaining a skill point than it is to make 30 while gaining that skill point."
I guess I'll be running that Trade skill quest a few times.
