ROGUE
"Stop!" Everything had happened so fast. This girl stepping out, shooting at Spike which led to he running away.
This girl... Rogue knew her.
"Stop!" she repeated addressing her and turned to the agent.
"Riley, tha's one of our students, righ'? Do whattcha think's right, ah gonna speed after our hurt vamp... tha's what ah'm here for anyway"
With that, the southern belle lifted herself high into the air to have a better overview and flew into the direction Spike had vanished to.
"What now, boss? Shall I help her or stay here?" Kane asked, keeping the sarcasm in his voice at a minimum. Taking orders from this man sure would seem weird; after all, Riley hadn't acted very leader-like as to yet.
MURRY
Murray had followed the group over here but said the nothing the whole way. He hadn't felt anything in his world but here things were different. The whole world with it's endless night and horror movie looks seemed ominous and Murray wasn't quite sure what to make of it. He did know though that he wasn't now feeling indifference.
His first words were those that could have come out of Captain state-the-obvious's mouth but they were words nonetheless, a rather big feat for someone like Murray.
"I know some of these people," he said simply but with the slightest hint of emotion.
"Okay we're playing follow the leader right so let's hear it Riley," Murray said quickly glancing over at the Commando type. "What do we do now?"
RILEY
The agents blood had run cold as his eyes watched a girl fire her weapon at Spike, but he couldn't say anything...not when he realized it was Catherine. Her body...all over her, even her hands, blood...her blood? She didn't appear hurt, but she was confused, he could see that, upset, unsure, Riley was partially snapped from his gaze by the calls of the others.
Riley:"Follow me."
He hurried towards Catherine, but his pace slowed as he approached her, his eyes looking up at her from where he stood.
Riley:"Catherine....Cat...we're taking you home."
Without taking his eyes off her blood stained clothes, Riley ordered the other two boys inside.
Riley:"Go in, see if the others are ok, tell them we're getting ready to leave, if any of them are wounded...help them out."
He waited for a moment, trying not to look at the blood on her clothes and focus on her eyes, his movement slow, careful, his hand gently reaching out and pulling the weapon from her fingers.
Look what he did to her...look at the world he invited her into? She was here...covered in blood...because of him.
When he first saw her, she was angry, and...angry...now she was lost, scared, uncertain, confused, shocked, as well as most likely very, very angry.
Riley:"I'm human, humans make mistakes, what I did to you is a mistake that I'll never ask you to forgive me for, but Spike, unlike me, wasn't able to make his choice on his own. He helped us find you because he now realizes what he did was wrong. What I did to you was wrong as well, but the offer I promised still stands. Only...due to coming here, I'm not going to be around any more, which means you'll be safe from any more mistakes on my behalf."
Taking a step towards the doorway, but continuing to face Cat as he spoke, not letting her get a word in incase she went to slap him and stormed off before he was able to tell her everything. He left Angela some extra notes in the folder he had given her earlier in the rec room, he just hoped he wasn't bothering her too much with his requests.
Riley:"I've asked a friend to give you what you need for the trip and her boyfriend will drive you to the airport. One way ticket to Washington if that's what you want, I owe you that much, he has your ticket already, a girl named Lisa has your holdall safely in her room."
Looking into the room, watching as a large man loomed over Dawn and some other girl who seemed wounded, Dawn's hands franticly trying to get the man away from the girl. Riley's arm rose slowly, his weapon aimed at the stranger who dared cause his friend to panic in such a way.
Riley:"Back away from the girls sir."
He warned in a threatening tone, the guard nervously looking at the boy and slowly began moving away.
Riley:"One last deal Catherine? First we get you all back to the Institute, then you can slap, kick, punch or scratch me as much as you want. Can you tell me what happened and who's Dawn protecting?"
CATHERINE
'Catherine....Cat...we're taking you home.' She looked at him from tired eyes, was it him or was she just imagining this ... yes she wanted to go home, she watched as he approached her, felt his fingers brush against hers as he removed the gun from her hand. She tilted her chin to look up at him, she hadn't realised how much larger he was than her before. She resisted the urge to grab hold of his legs around the ankles and sob with graditude.
'Only...due to coming here, I'm not going to be around any more. What was he talking about? her brain seemed to have stopped working and she could only stand and watch him.
She watched as he took a step towards the doorway, her eyes following his movement ... was he going to vanish off again and leave her? Of course he would, no one ever stayed ... they all left, it was just a matter of time. She looked like she was about to step after him but remind where she was. Feeling like a child being reprimanded for steeling from the cookie jar, a seething, twisted pit of guilt in her stomach. Why didn't he just yell at her, it would have been better than understanding and pity, she hated pity, she always brought things upon herself so it was only fair that she pay for them.
'One way ticket to Washington.' He bought her a ticket to Washington ... why had he done that? She hardly knew him ... she eyed him warily, she didn't trust him, people didn't do things like that ... they just didn't.
She realised Riley had spoken again, she was too tired to argue with him, she would have been glad for someone to tell her what to do. He was being all commanderish all of a sudden... were all these people in X-force? she wondered looking up at him, she still didn't move, but looked down at herself covered as she was in blood.
'Rogue.' She said still not looking at him. 'She ... she ... they stabbed her ... the rock demons' She looked at the tips of her now blood splattered cat boots realising she couldn't be making much sense. She closed a protective hand over the knife still in her belt, if he wanted this he would have to prise it from her cold, dead fingers she had promised to look after it. She didn't want to punch him, though for a fleeting moment she thought stabbing him could be satisfying but a quick glance over at Rogue changed her mind. She just wanted to go home, she wanted to be angry, but she seemed to have run out of anger for the moment, so she just stood there looking bewildered.
She didn't like Riley much, he was too ... proper and was one of those people she suspected had a perfect life. It was mainly because she compared themselves to people like that and found herself wanting. However at the moment she felt she could overlook that since he had come to take them home, her head was pounding painfully behind her eyes, she just wanted to curl up somewhere safe and sleep ... preferably for a long time.
TEMPEST
No questions, no hesitation, just a nod and almost soundlessly, Kane entered the hospital. A quick glance around told him hardly anyone of the people inside would be much of a problem in combat situation, however, currently this didn't seem likely anyway.
From Riley's glance, he guessed that this girl kneeling at the hurt one's side belonged to them but who else?
"Anyone else hurt?" he asked although it was rather obvious that no one except for the lying one was in imminent danger.
"We're here to getcha back into our world" Although looking mainly at Dawn, his eyes wandered around as well. Obviously, Riley was needed to find the ones belonging to them.
RILEY & DAWN
Closing his eyes for a moment, a conflict surging within him, comfort her knowing she wanted nothing to do with him, or give her space and leave her be?
Riley:"I'm sorry for doing this to you.."
Before he could make up his mind on what he was going to do, Dawn basically tackled him from nowhere, her entire body trembling as she wrapped her arms around him.
Riley:"Dawn!"
Dawn:"She's dying Riley! She's dying and none of them are helping her! I missed you so much I missed you so much Riley! I thought we'd never see you guys again!"
Riley's eyes looked into the room, looking over Sean, Clay and the other's, what happened to them? They looked a mess...The girls where covered in blood, well..only Dawn's hands, Cat was...soaked..
Dawn:"Please Riley, take us back, I just want things to go back to how they where, please, we planned on going to Salem, can we go Riley? Please..."
For a moment Riley looked extremely uncomfortable, something Dawn had said caused him to frown and look away down the street that Rogue and Spike had disappeared down.
Riley:"I'm sure Angela and the others can take you Dawn."
Pulling her teary eyes away from his chest, Dawn looked up at him.
Dawn:"...Does...does that mean you don't want to come with me?"
The tone of her words seemed as if she was hurt by his comment, after all she's been threw, and he didn't want to go out with her just to make her feel better..
Riley:"No it's, I mean...yes I do, I would...but...I can't."
She pulled away from him slightly as she frowned.
Dawn:"Can't? Why can't yo-"
Riley:"Dawn this isn't the time, let's just get you all home."
Dawn:"No! Not the time? Now is the perfect time, look at Catherine, you where all polite and sweet to her before. Now she's covered in blood, my sisters dying on the floor, and you say this isn't the time to discuss you not being there to support us?"
The Agent gave Dawn both his guns, the young spell caster almost drop them from the shock of having them almost shoved into her hands.
Riley:"It's not the time, because I have nothing to say Dawn, I told you I'd probably be leaving one day a it just so happens that day is today."
He pulled off his coat and - without waiting for Catherine’s approval - placed it over her shoulders, for a moment, his hands lingered on her shoulders.
Riley:"I didn't have time to find you an apartment or a job Catherine, the ticket was the only thing I could do to help keep my promise of helping you get home."
Dawn:"Wait.....you're going to Cat? Is anyone staying?"
The girl looked between Riley and Catherine, then hurtfully looked into the reception area again.
Riley:"Dawn, come on, get the others, we're leaving."
Dawn:"My sister.."
Riley:"Daw-"
Dawn:"I'm not leaving her.."
Allowing his fingers to gently slip from Catherine, he walked into the room, slowly and carefully knelling beside her to pick her up.
Logan:"Hey! Get away from her!"
Moments later, Riley seems to be grabbed from behind by the Watcher, pulling the Agent away from his Slayer.
Riley:"I'm here to help!"
Logan:"Likely bloody story Finn!"
Riley:"You don't....Finn? Ho-"
The Watcher basically threw Riley to the floor, but the Agent managed to stay on his feet, staggering back up just in time to block a punch from the Watcher.
Riley:"Hey! Back off!"
Logan:"I'm not letting you hurt her!"
Riley:"Dawn wanted me to take her!"
Logan:"Dawn doesn't know who you are, she doesn'-"
Easily dodging another punch, Riley grabbed the Watchers hand, then twisted him around and held him tightly from the back, easily restraining the Watcher.
Riley:"I went to school with her!"
Logan stopped struggling for a moment, looking back at Dawn who was at the doorway.
Logan:"Oh right...you're from the other world...take her back with you."
Riley:"Who is she?"
Logan:"The Slayer."
Riley:"The Slayer!"
Riley looked back at Dawn.
Riley:"We can't take the Slayer, this world looks as if it needs her!"
Logan:"This world is letting her die!"
Releasing the Watcher from his grip, Riley frowned, looking at her with uncertainty.
Logan:"If she stays here...she dies, please, just tak-Are you alright?"
As the Watcher talked Riley gently placed his hand against the side of his head as if he was experiencing a mild headache.
Riley:"Pick her up, we'll take her, we don't have time for this."
He hurried back outside to Catherine.
Riley:"We're leaving, have you all got everything?"
CATHERINE
'I'm sorry for doing this to you..' She looked at Riley, no he wasn't people were always telling her they were sorry and they weren't.
'I'm so sorry Catherine.' The teenager looked hurt at the words.
'But your the only family I have.' Her words were filled with hurt as she looked at Dave's mother, her Aunt.
'I would if I could, but I can't, I'm really sorry.' Catherine looked like she'd been slapped, her eyes filled with anger and hurt.
So your going to let them take me three thousand miles away ... I don't ... I don't wanna go, please don't let them take me.' She wasn't one for begging, but she really, really didn't want to go ... not to the new world ... America ... Washington. She knew she'd never see any of them again, she'd never afford a ticket back and they didn't have enough to buy on to come over and see her. Her hand's were clenched into fits by her sides, her face white and strained, she been crying.
'I'm sorry.' Her Aunt wasn't even looking at her now, as if she was too disgusted by the child infront of her, where in reality she couldn't bear to look in her eyes and see the girl's hopes be dashed. There was a choked noise and Catherine spoke through fresh tears.
'You don't want me, you don't love ... I hate you.' I hate you ... it was the first time she had uttered those words, they got easier each time you said them ... there was the sound of footsteps, the slamming of a door ... her Aunt looked up, bright tears in her own eyes.
Catherine stood dejectedly while Riley and Dawn fought, she didn't want his support, she didn't need anyones support, she'd learnt that you have to stand on your own two feet if you want to survive.
'I didn't have time to find you an apartment or a job Catherine, the ticket was the only thing I could do to help keep my promise of helping you get home.' She felt him slip his coat about her shoulders as he spoke, she looked down at his hands on her shoulders, not knowing for a moment if he was holding her up or if she was standing by herself ... she just didn't understand him ... not one bit.
'Wait.....you're going too Cat? Is anyone staying?' Cat glanced across at Dawn, giving a dry sort of half laugh, half sob but there were no tears in her eyes. She'd been crying inside so long she had no tears left.
'I could never fit in with you lot. I don't, I just can't.' She pulled Riley's coat around her, realising for the first time she was freezing cold, but at the same time knowing she was getting Jennifer's blood all over it. The coat was warm from Riley's body heat, there was something comforting about it, his scent still clung to it, reassuring, she fought back the urge to copy Dawn and wrap her arms around him. Just to let someone else do the fighting for her, just for a while, but he hadn't seemed to keen on Dawn hugging him he'd probably just push her away.
His hands slipped from her shoulders, she swayed for a second but stayed on her feet, she stared at the ground as she heard the sound of angry voices .. the whole world seemed angry, it always was, people were always yelling ... teachers shouting, why hadn't she done her essay? ... Anne and Roger, yelling at each other ... Bekki and Jon having frequent rows ... her social worker lost it on occasions, why couldn't Cat just comply with them for once? ... and she? she was always angry. She stared over at Riley, she watched him pin Logan's arm behind his back, Dawn was standing at the door watching them ... she was right Riley was dangerous.
She took one step backwards, why did everyone stop yelling and fighting just for one minute, her head hurt, pain pounding behind her eyes.
When Riley hurried out onto the street a minute later the dark street was empty except for his coat lying discarded on the pavement.
DAVE
"sorry i'm late, had a slight problem back there", the voice of dave drifted through the air as he ran up to Riley, avoiding a coat on the floor. he had got through the portal safely, but somehow when he got to the other side he changed into liquid form and ended up as a puddle, something he was not too good at changing back from.
He stopped next to riley, breathing heavier than normal, his sea blue eyes flitting across the people gathered, none of them were his cousin "wheres cat then?" he looked round, his eyes fixing on the coat on the floor, he bant down and picked it up, he recognised it as Riley's, it had blood inside it now, though it couldn't have been there long as it was still a little wet and had not seeped through the fabric totally, his head turned towards Riley a concerned expression on his face "and why is your coat covered in blood"
RILEY & DAWN
The numb sensation of a buzzing sound in his ears was quickly ignored as his eyes fell upon the discarded coat he had given Cat.
Dawn:"Riley are yo-"
Riley:"Where is she?"
His hazel eyes quickly scanned the area, yet he found no trace, for the first time in Dawn's life, she saw a look of panic, almost fear, upon Riley's face. But the young spell caster hadn't even noticed Cat's silent escape, there was really only one place Cat would feel safe...and that'd be back in the apartment...Dawn at least hoped, because the only other choices where the demon bar or wondering the dark streets.
Riley:"We need to find her!"
Dawn's fingers reached out and grabbed hold of his arm.
Dawn:"Riley, it'll be alright, we'll find, but all together, she's fast, and street smart from what I've seen...she'll be alright.."
But his heart was racing as he looked back at the younger girl.
Riley:"No! Dawn, I can't lose her again!"
Both Dawn's hands reached out and gently took hold of Riley's arms.
Dawn:"Riley, she's probably just gone back to the apartment, she's gotta be in shock or something, all that blood Riley, she probably just wanted to wash it off."
Riley:"If she's in shock why is she out there alone? Why isn't anyone with her? Why do I keep hurting her?"
A confused look of anger struck Dawn as she shook her head, her eyes glued to his stubbornly, she couldn't understand what Riley was talking about, and he didn't know her. How could he keep hurting someone he's barely seen.
Dawn:"You haven't hurt her-"
Riley:"I invited her into the Institute Dawn, she didn't want to go in, I offered to take her to her room, she didn't want to go there either! Now I come to help and she runs off because of me!"
She'd never seen Riley acting like this before, normally he was so playful, or joking, or strong, or....he was just....Riley. She hadn't seen him in this state before, she wasn't sure what to say to him, and normally he was the one in her position..
Dawn:"Riley why are you acting like this? Why are you blaming yourself, there was nothing you could have done.."
Riley:"I'm her team leader Dawn, I was in charge of her protection, and as soon as Angelus and the others attacked.."
He placed his hand on the side of his head as he looked off, his eyes once again searching the streets, but even if he was zapped with the chip...how much help could he have been against Angelus?
Dawn:"You got sick again.."
Riley:"She was all alone and hurt and I couldn't even be there for her...I failed her, again and again..."
Dawn's grip on Riley's arms tightened as she listened to him speak, he was blaming all this on himself, as if he was responsible for everything that happened to them, well he wasn't!
Dawn:"This wasn't your fault Riley! Stop beating yourself up about it! We'll get her back!"
Riley:"Back will you be able to keep her?"
He asked as he snapped his attention back at his close friend, but Dawn didn't really understand what he was asking, however the arrival of another boy distracted her for a moment. But Riley, even though the boy scooped up his jacket and talked to him, seemed to totally ignore the boy as he talked with Dawn.
Riley:"Will you be able to stop her from leaving? She doesn't think she fits in here, but back in Washington, Dawn her family, don't let her go back there! I just wanted her to see that you guys where a better family then she could ever have back there... Dawn, she doesn't deserve to be alone any more, not when she has a chance to be with you, not when she can stay with Xavier and be safe, no more fights, no more drunk parents...no more being alone..."
Dawn:"Riley.."
Her sympathetic eyes looked over his face, seeing something inside him that even he wasn't aware he was feeling, but now wasn't the time to discuss his personal life.
Dawn:"Why don't you stay with us longer, ask her to stay at the school, we can work things out.."
But the agent slowly shook his head, no matter how much he wanted to stay...no matter how much he longed to remain with these people who where so much like a family...the Initiative was coming for him. Like it or not...he belonged with them.
Riley:"I can't stay Dawn...they're coming for me...I only found out this morning, I'm sorry.."
Dawn:"..Wait, who's coming? ...Are you in trouble?"
He looked at her for a moment, her eyes filled with worry by the tone of his voice.
Riley:"I'm going back to where I belong Dawn, I should be alright."
The movement of someone next to him caused the Agent to look at Dave, his startled expression showing off far off his mind was when Dave first arrived.
Riley:"Are you alright? I thought you might have gone back.."
'She's probably in shock or something'..His hazels eyes peered at the coat in Dave's hands, his face almost turned pal as he stared at it, his hands instantly reaching out and grabbing it from the boy.
Riley:"I'm not leaving her alone again Dawn! I can't!"
Moving passed Dave, he called out as he hurried off.
Riley:"Dawn, come on! Dave, make sure everyone in there get's back to the graveyard, we're bringing the wounded girl!"
SEAN
Sean watched as the chaos unfolded, people appeared from nowhere, people he knew and recognised from his old school. How had they come here? Could they get them back, questions flowed through his mind like water but he had to hold them back, they were all in danger now.
Sean turned and saw Logan, Riley and Dawn arguing over Rouge's withered body, he quickly spun and kicked a nearby guard across the face before running towards the arguing men.
"You two, look, we've got to move! Logan, you take Rouge, I think I can stop the bleeding for now with my powers, but ill need you to carry her and the others to wathc our backs. Riley, go and find Cat like you said you would, we can't leave her here, we'll meet you at the place in the graveyard where we were brought into this world.
Look, Rouge needs our help Riley, and we can save her at Xaviers, we can deal with the repercusions when we get there, I know her, she would do the same for any of us.
Now, can we go and leave here, or are we all to stay and die?" Sean's voice was harsh and strong, but he had to use it to get through to the men. His deep eyes stared piercingly at them for an answer.
"I can help you."
The voice filled the minds of the three men and as if the air around them began to thicken, the form of a man appeared in front of them. Matthew Rosenberg stood near them and saw shock fill there face, and a look of recognition on Logan's.
"Hello Logan." He said smoothly before talking to all three of them, "I can help you get home, but in return for one thing. I wish to leave this world to, there is nothing left for me here and I cannot return to my family, allow me this and I wiil help you in everyway possable. Surely you know of my strength." Matt stood silently as he watched them, the rucus aroun them seemed to slow slightly behind them with his presence, as if allowing them slightly longer to answer him......
DAVE
"what?" Dave ignored the appearance someone else, to him there was so much strange happening that he couldn't be bothered to pay any attention to any of it, instead he was now next to Riley again waving his hand towards the group of people "you expect me to stay here with these..." he stopped, not wanting to pick the wrong words and insult anybody.
He paused for breath and to think out his next sentence "look, I came here for cat, sure if there are others who need help then fine I will help them, but if the wounded girl you were referring to was my cousin, then she is my number one priority" he paused again to study Riley's expression "anyway, it might be better if she see's I'm here"
TEMPEST
The buzzing sound of electricity started to hum around Kane as Logan attacked their leader.
He had never done this before but strangely enough, he knew instinctively how he could use his power to create small bolts which would have been able to get this stranger away from Riley.
A moment later, the tense situation was gone and the static field died away. Waiting for commands and feeling strangely useless, Tempest stood next to the wounded girl watching the scene.
As Riley ran away this other girl following him, the white-haired mutant couldn't believe it.
His face surely showed his surprise since he wasn't able to hide it this time.
*What kind of leader leaves his team behind just like that?!* he thought but said nothing about it. Instead, he turned to the other young people around and said calmly
"Those who were thrown in here by the vamps, follow us to the graveyard... please"
This young man that suddenly began to play commando boy, he ignored fully as did obviously Riley who didn't seem to react to his words either.
He carefully picked up the wounded slayer not bothering the blood that began to dye his clothes crimson while a part of him kept on shaking its head about this odd situation.
Accepting Dave as the co-leader, Tempest turned to him waiting for the order to go. Although the secret agent ran away without listening to his words, Riley had appointed him to be in charge.
MURRY
Murray watched the situation and felt, for the first time in awhile that overwhelming sense of fear he had had the last time he really let loose with his powers. He had thought his world was bad but this one was falling apart and everyone was bleeding and dying. Worse yet there wasn't anything he could do about it.
Nearby the student from their world Murray remembered as Clay looked devestated and helpless. He looked drained physically and emotionally and his normally pasty skin was pale as a ghost's. Weariness was evident in his eyes as he stood. He seemed ready to accept orders from anyone else without a second thought about it and while Clay didn't know who this Riley guy was or from where he had come from the nullifying mutant accepted Dave as leader for the moment.
Overwhelming relief shot through him, revitalizing partially his tired bones. Someone had come for them, they hadn't been forgotten. He could go home now. Home to Tess and Nalani. Home to a world where the blood and death was hidden behind a veil and the public rarely had to see it. Clay missed that world, his home, but knew that this world had changed him. It would be a very different Clay that returned home.
Not far away Murray's eyes were almost haunted as he glanced around the hospital, remembering the time long ago when he had been here. The people lying injured in hospital beds had been his fault then, his powers had wronged them.
The cursed mutant noticed someone walk by though and turned the corner to follow the stranger, feeling somehow rather strangely drawn to him. The man ahead of him was hunched over but he looked roughly the same height as Murray himself though dressed in shabby clothes that stunk of the street.
"Wait," Murray called, more of a command than a request. The stranger stopped ahead of him without turning around and Murray walked faster, catching up. When they were halfway down the hall Murray and the Stranger turned to face eachother...the problem being that the stranger was not a stranger at all.
Murray was shocked as he saw himself mirrored in the other man's face. While the man's hair was shaggy, unkept and hanging in his eyes it was the same colour, the same hair. It was the eyes that truly did it though. The other version of Murray had haunted eyes, like nearly everyone else here he had lived through things no one else could imagine.
"It can't be," the other Murray said and while his voice was fairly calm he looked as shocked as his double was.
"It can be, I'm not from your world," Murray got out after his speechlessness had passed. "I came for some others from our world, they got accidently stuck here."
"They're lucky they have you. If they stuck around here they wouldn't last long," Murray's duplicate said quietly. "You should stay away, I'm dangerous," he added quickly, taking a few steps back.
"How, how are you dangerous? I've seen things like vampires already, things I didn't believe existed before today. How can you compare to them?" Murray asked.
"If you're me then you have my powers," the dupe said. "You can't control them can you." It wasn't a question.
"No, not entirely. I try not to use them," Murray responded.
"I don't have a choice," was his bitter reply. "Long story short I didn't have anyone and they got worse, I was coming to see if anything would help me and some force stopped them. Ordinarily I'd be cursing everything in sight and the hospital would be on fire by now. Look you should stay away. I was leaving for a reason alright? You'll get hurt if you stick around."
Murray imediately understood. Clay, he thought. "One of the mutants from our world is responsible, he nullifies powers. Looks like he accidently nulled you. You should stay nearby until we leave," Murray said. He wasn't normally the helpful sort but how could you refuse yourself help?
"I shouldn't...if he's the pasty one he looks sick enough already. He should rest, there's no point helping me anyway," Murray's dupe said and began to walk away. "Hey Murray?"
"Yeah?" asked the other world's Murray, feeling pity and a choked up sort of sympathy for the other version of himself.
"Get help. For your powers I mean. In your world there has to be someone what with all the rainbows and everything. Find someone, promise me that."
"I-I promise," Murray said and found for once that he had no snarky comment to make and wouldn't have made it even if he did. He had known instantly upon seeing Clay and the others covered in blood that they would return to the sunshine world different people. Now as he watched this world's distorted version of himself walk away Murray knew that they weren't the only ones who would be different upon their return.
SPIKE
Trotting along beside Rogue rather silently as he examined the glass cube in his grasp, the vampire using the sleeve of his leather coat to rub any specks of dust that dare lay upon it.
He gave an uncomfortable groan as he looked at his wounded shoulder, at least the coat covered his wound, and it didn't hurt as much since Rogue took the bullet out. He couldn't help but think over what had happened back at the manor, and thinking over that, he remembered Rogue's glove.
Spike:"Ah, here you go Pet, ya might be wantin' this."
Handing her the glove he had removed from her earlier, he allowed his fingers to stroke against hers as he dropped the glove into her hand. But he didn't let it linger too long, returning his hand to the ancient glass cube in his grasp, making no attempt to explain the importance of this object to him.
Something caught his attention, his eyes looking over towards an empty spot in the street they just passed, his head turning to look back at it as they walked away. He seemed to grow extremely distracted by something that he could see hovering around them, yet as far as Rogue could tell they where alone.
He began walking rather closely to her, but not out of affection, his eyes too busy looking at something that seemed to be following beside him. He moved over to the other side of Rogue, avoiding the urge to look at her, avoiding the urge to yell..
His fingers gently rubbed his eyes before he then gave a startled look at something in front of him, and yet still Rogue could see nothing that'd be getting his attention like this.
Spike:"Stop it!"
He called out in a panic as he stood behind Rogue and shut his eyes tightly, but before Rogue could react he snapped open his eyes and looked ahead.
Spike:"I smell her blood!"
His voice was filled with worry as he dashed ahead, slipping the glass cube into his pocket so he couldn't drop it.
Logan had hurried out of the building, hovering around the young mutant that held his dying Slayer
Logan:"Matt..."
He didn't really give Willow's cousin the attention he deserved, but the Watcher was extremely worried over his Slayer. And the arrival of Spike wasn't something he was keen about either, his voice cold and hash as he spoke with the vampire.
Logan:"Stay away from her."
Spike came to a stop, his hazel eyes looking at Rogue with worry before glaring at the Watcher.
Spike:"Maybe you should stay away from her."
The vampire replied in a challenging tone.
Logan:"I beg your pardon? I think you've gotten our roles mixed up-"
Spike:"Not fond of people beggin'-"
Logan:"Not what you said two years ago when you wanted me to 'beg' for Willow's life, not that it did much good considering her current situation."
A look of sheer loathing hit Spike's face as he glared at the human, but Spike was simply far too fired to find the strength to argue with him. With a hurt expression, Spike glued his eyes downwards towards the ground, showing his submission. But he wasn't as passive as he appeared, the frown across his face currently the only thing seen to show how upset he was over the statement made by the watcher.
The vampire placed his right hand over his ear as he closed his eyes and began mumbling to himself, his whispers seething with anger. All the blood, all the blood everywhere, everyone smelled so strongly of it, and it's the Slayers blood, so much power in it, so nourishing when consumed...
Both his hands quickly covered his face as he realized he was slipping and losing control, he could feel Rogue move close to him. But with a growl, his face turned back into its demon form, his arms dropping by his side and his breathing heavy with anger as his eyes darted over towards the Slayer.
However instead of attacking like every ounce of demon instinct inside him told him to do, he turned and faced Rogue, his golden eyes furiously glaring at the mutant as he clenched his fanged teeth in anger. Bringing his tightly clenched fists towards his chest as they trembled from the rage building up inside of him. Shutting his eyes tightly, his fists now pressed stressfully against his forehead, the sound of Rogue's life pumping and beating away causing more havoc within his tortured mind.
Logan:"You lot are insane in trusting that creature."
The watcher blurted out as Spike seemed to lose control, the vampires eyes slowly opened and stared directly at Rogue, his whisper a harsh and stressed yet apologetic tone.
Spike:"...The Slayers blood, Rogue...it's screamin', it's screamin' so loudly, and he's yellin' at me, and it's not helpin'! It is really NOT helpin'!"
RILEY & DAWN
Dawn's eyes stared at Spike as they approached the group, the vampires true face turned to look at them, his golden eyes staring at Cat with a flicker of panic in his already unstable state.
The vampire seemed to crouch down instinctively, poorly trying to hide himself behind Rogue's legs and out of the girl’s line of sight. His hands gently held Rogue's leg like a child hiding behind his mother, as he watched the two girls walking towards them with Riley in-between them. Riley didn't look well...but he didn't look well before they left either.
Spike:"I hurt her....I hurt her....and she saw threw the costume Rogue, I don't have any more costumes...if I lose this there's only the demons costume!"
He looked down at his chest, which could be seen between the opening of the black leather coat, his face returning to his human form as he forgot all about the Slayer's blood.
Spike:"The flesh is the demons costume...I have to hide it with the costume of a man....but I don't have any more clothes.....am I just a demon now....just a monster....how can I pretend to be a man with out a proper costume..?"
Riley tried to sound as if he was alright, but part of him was terrified he was acting like Spike, mumbling things that made no sense..
Riley:"Rogue, you're back...that's good...you can lead us out of here then...after you."
The agent looked down at Spike who seemed to be hiding behind her, the vampires head tilted slightly as he looked up at the girls. With a startled expression, he quickly retrieved the glass cube from his pocket, worried that it might chip if he was on the ground like this. He held it close to his chest with one hand, but with his fingers of his other hand he had began rubbing at the smeared blood that's still faintly seen.
Something scared him, his eyes looking over towards one of the empty streets, yet again his mind seeing something that wasn't there. But he leaned gently against Rogue's leg, like a scared pet trying to find comfort in it's masters presence.
Spike:"She was covered in blood, did I do that to her? Did I hurt her? Why didn't the chip punish me? Why didn't it punish me....I hurt her, didn't I? I think I did....bad demon..."
With a frown he stared into the glass cube, allowing his eyes to focus only on the dark silver cross, watching the tiny purple stones carved in it glitter like the shattering glass had done in his room.
Riley:"Everyone.....should head back to the graveyard."
He could feel Cat's warm delicate hand in his, and part of him wondered when she put that there...or had he taken her hand? How long had he been holding her hand?
CATHERINE
She inched closer to Riley as she felt the vampire's terrified eyes upon her, looking at her as if she might jump on him at any second and finish what she had started, trying to use Riley's large body to block out the vampire out of her line of sight, she felt better if she couldn't see him. Even so she could feel nothing but guilt for what she'd done, watching him cling on to Rogue's leg ... he really did look wretched.
Cat ignored his words, if she pretended he wasn't there it didn't hurt as much. She caught sight of Dave, she could tell it was him, but he looked taller, he'd filled out ... and was his hair blue?
'Whats that a new fashion statement?' She said looking him up and down, her voice quiet friendly though she showed no desire to hug him or ask him how he was, why should she, he'd just abandoned her ... family were meant to stay together not let you be taken three thousand miles away and not even try and help.
ROGUE
The southern belle gave Riley a nod and concentrated on the currently more important things.
" 's alright" Rogue whispered to the vampire turning to him.
* 's been your choice, gal, now cope with the insane vamp!* the absorption mutant thought self-ironically as she kneeled down to Spike.
"You didn't hurt her" Touching the side of his face gently with her newly gloved hands, Rogue tried to calm him down, bring the fragile sanity she had seen before back again.
"The costume y'have's just fine... c'mon, we're goin' back to ma world... to the light"
She stood up stretching her hand down to him to help him up if necessary. A slight frown appeared on her face as she thought about his earlier behavior on the way here.
Rogue spoke louder than before, loud enough for people around to understand her if they wanted to
"You looked as if some danger was'round... d'you sense somethin'?"
*How touching...* Tempest thought sarcastically knowing that not even very deep inside of him, this was just what he longed for. Someone who cared about him, someone he could dare to care about in return without being afraid of frying this person when his powers broke loose again.
However, at the moment, it felt... stable. Controllable. It was amazing *how* effective the short training session with Circe had been considering that it had mainly been the attitude which had kept him from gaining better control over the elements.
Nevertheless, the white-haired mutant knew that only real combat situations would show him how advanced he really was - and what had to be worked on.
Riley:"Everyone.....should head back to the graveyard."
Now that the secret agent was back, Kane had concentrated on him again. The suggestion he interpreted as a command and began to walk towards where they had come from - the weight of the slayer bothering him just lightly.
RILEY
As her fingers touched his cheek, the vampire seemed to tilt his head slightly, allowing his cheek to stroke against her fingers. Something sounding very much like the purr of a tamed house hold cat quietly escape the creature before she spoke and asked about what he had sensed earlier, this caused him to look up at her.
Spike:"She's followin' me...she know's I'm back, she keeps...she keeps whispering into my ear.."
But yet again he got distracted as his eyes wondered off, the untouchable X-Men went off in one direction, however Spike - on all fours - hurried over towards where he had fallen when he had been shot.
He crouched low, like an animal about to pounce on its pry, his eyes focused solely on the dark lump that was half hidden by the night. With a leap, he grabbed at the torn black item that had once been his prized new shirt, what little blood had stained it was now dry yet he could still pick up it's scent.
Riley:"...Spike, go after Rogue."
The vampire looked over towards the agent, his hands busily wrapping the tattered cloth around the glass cube that encased the silver cross he cherished so dearly. Once the ancient glass cube was safely within the cloth, Spike bit into a part of the shirt, holding it with his teeth as he turned about and hurried after Rogue.
Riley:"We better hurry."
He whispered to the two girls with a shaky voice.
CATHERINE & DAVE
'I'm thinking of dying it brown.' He said fixing his blue eyes onto her brown ones
'Why is it blue in the first place ... blue of all colours Dave ... are you batting for the other team?' She didn’t like blue hair … it wasn’t natural, she hated to see all those people, teenagers especially who dressed like Goths, (who looks more vampire like than Spike did) whitened their faces, painted their nails black ad their hair blue.
'WHAT!!? Me ... gay ... Nooooooo and it's blue for much of the same reason I'm in creepy college and Yankee land.' She looked over at him sharply, he was a mutant to! Suddenly she didn’t feel so alone … it sounded as if he wasn’t particularly too keen on his powers either. He looked at her like she’d grown a second head or sprouted wings … where had the Cat he remembered gone, he didn’t recognise the girl standing in front of him
She muttered something along the lines of ... 'Is there anyone else in my family who's a closet mutant ... frigging English ...' she mumbled off into silence, her face growing moody again, looking away from him.
'Now your question time is over. So it's my turn to interrogate now ...' He said, she could just picture him rubbing his hands together, with one hand he indicated Riley Dawn and her. 'So are you three … together? nah just kidding, so how are you?'
‘Shut it Dave, those are my friends you’re talking about.’ She hadn’t actually meant to say that, but the second half of the sentence just kind of fell from her lips. She looked up at Riley quickly, she wasn’t sure she wanted to be his friend but glancing over at Dawn she realised that maybe the words were true for her, she did like Dawn. The girl kept sticking up for her, she was nice to her. She let her hand trespass for a half a second longer in Riley’s before she pulled away from him, not really caring if he fell to the floor or not. The warmth of his hand lingered for a moment in her smaller one … then it was gone leaving her standing alone, why had she taken his hand in the first place? She couldn’t quite remember but now wasn’t the time for her to wonder … she was angry again, furious that her own cousin should speak so about Dawn … he could say what he liked about her but not about Dawn. The mere idea that she would shack up with someone like Riley made her want to slap David, she didn’t like Riley and the idea of someone thinking that she was with him, let him hold her, let him kiss her, let him … she could feel her cheeks flushing. She stepped forwards, her fists clenched, he realised what she was about to do just before she hit him. Trying to nullify his mind he suddenly splashed to the floor, onto the pavement as a puddle of water. Cat barely saved herself from falling flat on the floor as her punch passed through the air instead of making contact with him, she wasn’t used to her punches not making contact with the desired target.
'What the hell!' She stared back in surprise once she had regained her footing, glancing down at the puddle, she could see his face mirrored, in the water, in a passionate rage instead she stamped on the image, dispelling his face in a wave of turbulent splashing and mini wavelets.
'Oh gee thanks, your really helpful.' His voice echoed up slightly from the puddle, his tone sarcastic.
'Quit it Dave, stop showing off you aint impressing Riley you know.' She fumed, finding she couldn’t hurt him with her fists she tried to mentally stab at him. The next second she made a gasping sound as above her a deluge of icy cold water appeared from nowhere, falling down upon her, drenching her in an instant. She stood in shock for a moment, her hair hanging limply, feeling droplets of water run down her back, wet through.
She saw his figure grow up out of the puddle, his human form taking shape, heard his laughter ringing around inside her head. She just stood there feeling more wretched than she could ever remember since the death of her parents, she’d been dragged miles from her home, told she was something she hated, taken from her own world, almost been eaten by a werewolf, killed by a demon and crushed by a building, shot someone, covered in the blood of her dying friend and now to cap it all off she was socking wet as well. His laughter trailed off into an awkward silence as he realised he’d hurt her,
'Ah … sorry Catherine but you deserved it you tried to hit me you haven’t seen me in four years and the first thing you do is complain about my hair and try and punch me, I can sort it out for you if you want.' His voice was stern, but there was an undercurrent of concern for his younger cousin. Cat stared at him, she wanted to hit him and to scream at him, to tell him this was all his fault because he’d done nothing to try and stop them from taking her away. Instead she turned and walked off, the water in her cat boots squelching. But she didn’t seem to notice
'No just leave me alone.’
He watched her walk, feeling more guilty with every squelch of her boots. She pulled Riley’s sodden coat closer to her, she hated Dave she thought bitterly … she had always hated him, it wasn’t true but it made her feel better. She could feel the hairs on the back of her arms beginning to stand up, there was no heat in this world, no sun to help dry the water, instead it remained icy cold on her skin, chilling her whole body. It was her turn to shiver then, still clutching Rogue’s photos in her hands, hoping the water hadn’t got though the bag and spoilt them.
CLAY
Clay looked a little startled and overwhelmed still with what was going on. Perhaps that was why he didn't even notice Murray walk down the hallway in another direction. At the moment he wasn't really concerned with Murray though.
Clay didn't really understand who was going where, his mind was still too far into a state of shock for that. What he did get was that most people around him were leaving.
Clay, still in a zombie like state, exited the hospital. He followed the crowd of people from his world and hoped that he'd be back home soon.
