The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
(For the people who want to jump in somewhere but don't have active teams due to absences from other players)

If Connor had been dreaming, the sudden waking had completely obliterated not only his rest but also whatever thoughts had been flowing through his mind in sleep. At first hands reached up to cover sensitive ears, body curled somewhat as the sound seemed all so piercing, vibrant blue eyes pressed tightly shut against the darkness and enveloping sound. "Dad?" The strained call slipped out before thoughts and memories had assembled together well enough to remind Connor that he wasn’t back at his father’s apartment, but with his assigned teammates… A soft mewing all that managed to pull Connor’s focus, and despite the blackness of the room he could still see the kitten by his bed, it’s small orange and white face alert, eyes large and ears flicking and twisting about.

"Lucky," The kitten was scared, and Connor didn’t blame it, what ever was happening didn’t sound normal, even if ‘normal’ had a whole different meaning in this place, "Come here," Dragging himself out of bed, wincing against the loud sound riveting throughout the room and all around, Connor’s hand reached out, bringing up the kitten and placing it onto the covers, "stay there so you don’t get trodden on," Clumsily Connor went for the neatly draped jeans which hang on the back of a nearby chair, a folded T-shirt sat also on it and once the jeans were pulled on, the shirt was also wiggled into. While Connor didn’t mind having the cat sleep up on his bed, fear of accidentally skewering the animal drove the feral to keep the animal off the bed during the night, just to avoid such horrors.

Picking up the kitten, Connor went to his door, opening it with effort against the horrible sound that seemed to be splitting his head. Feet seemed to guide him towards the door of the dorm room, opening it so that he could step out into the main hall. He looked around, shutting his eyes a moment after as the sound felt almost intolerable in its frequency. Other doors were opening; footsteps signalled that others were leaving their beds as well due to the noise, some swifter then others.

"What’s going on, where’s everyone going?" Was this normal? Did this happen a lot here? Was something bad happening? At some point he probably knew what all this meant, but if he did, the stress wasn’t triggering any helpful memories like one might see happen in the movies. A soft meow came from the kitten in Connor’s right hand, the animal held close against the feral’s chest but still uneasy by all the commotion. The spare hand pressed against Connor’s forehead, the sound was unbearable, how could anyone think with all this racket?

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
Of all the things one could stare at, the ceiling certainly was the most boring option. Someone more creative than Kane - or simply more motivated for anything - might have gone for some sort of decoration at some point to sort of turn the whole thing around, but judging by his spartan interior, that really wasn't the kind of thing he paid any attention to. The basic setup all rooms had Kane hadn't changed the slightest. No photos, posters, or whatever other means almost everybody else used to make their school home more, well, homely could be seen here. The positive term would have been 'pragmatic'; most people would probably have gone for 'a bit freaky' though.

The reason why the ceiling was getting so much attention without being noticed wasn't anything overly important really. He simply couldn't sleep. There were neither anxiety nor problems of any kind involved, just a general inability to let go of consciousness and drift off into dreamland like most people experience occasionally. Things were going relatively well, so Kane supposed. He was on a team and had even occasionally talked a bit to the one or other member. Of course that had still been far from getting him a reputation of being the chatty type, but even the most basic social acts could be considered major improvement as far as the white-haired mutant was concerned.

There was an unfamiliar feeling of belonging somewhere, of safety even, that had begun to sink in during the past weeks. Things were quiet and normal, two attributes that had been rather rare in Tempest's existence so far, objectively speaking. Personally, he had decided they were both pretty nice things to have in one's life. And who knew, maybe one day he would even get a grasp on this strange thing that was small talk. The power-inhibiting bracelet he wore gave off a dim red glow, reassuring in its trustiness. Kane suspected he wasn't really dependent on the device Storm had given him anymore, but especially when he was sleeping the weather-controlling student had learned to go by the principle 'better safe than sorry'.

When the alarm went off, it seemed strangely expected in its randomness. A small frown creased his forehead when Kane got up, slipping into his team uniform, and disabled the bracelet. Not much of a conscious thought had crossed his mind before he reached the door, his body following patterns that had been drilled into him a long time ago and only had got updated during briefings and training sessions after he had become part of an X-team.

Cautious glances were sent flickering about the dorm, revealing no sign of imminent danger, but only doors being opened, people leaving their rooms in more or less panicked fashion, and a slightly dazed-looking Connor making his way to the exit. It seemed the best choice to follow him. "What’s going on, where’s everyone going?" Kane tilted his head a little to the side, red eyes expressing nothing really as their gaze touched Wolverine's son. "Out," he replied simply, pointing towards the stairs.

"That alarm pattern usually means something's so wrong we should just run." The information was given in such a neutral way, chances were the alarming content of its words didn't quite get through. Then again, Kane wasn't exactly worried either. Surely things would be dealt with soon enough. "You don't have access to the team leader frequency, do ya?" he asked, wondering if there would be some sort of plan or any kind of information they should know of. "We don't know if the stairs are safe."

For everyone comes the time when they have to take over responsibility. It stands to argue whether there is also a time when they can get rid of it again.

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
Sorry for the shortness.

It was really strange being around all the other students, in his family all the powers were similar, and yet out here they spilled over him like a foreign language rapidly being digested and translated. Another member seemed to have moved up beside Connor, and the feral felt a moment of curiosity, the other guy didn’t say much, which seemed to be a trait for the Hellions though. "Out, " Came the rather unhelpful reply, not that it upset Connor, at least his question was answered but he could see they were going somewhere, but why, he had asked the wrong question, and yet knew asking why wouldn’t give way to any helpful answers, it was unlikely Tempest would know more then Connor did right now.

"That alarm pattern usually means something's so wrong we should just run." What could go so wrong here though? Trying to hear over the alarm was impossible, a hand pressed firmly against the side of the feral’s head in order to try and ease the pain though it didn’t help. "You don't have access to the team leader frequency, do ya?" The question pulled Connor’s focus and blue eyes peered up intently at the white haired mutant, That’s a point, ex-team leader, son of a teacher, you’d think I would have such a thing. "We don't know if the stairs are safe." He didn’t remember it though, if he did know it wasn’t any use to him just now, or Tempest or anyone else and that just annoyed and frustrated Connor more.

"My father would know what’s going on, if we can get the team together maybe I can get some orders off him, the other team leaders seem to be pulling their groups together," Connor watched for a moment, reaching up to press the button and also adding with a dry humour, "Were we really that bad to make ours ditch us?" The line crackled to life and Connor directed the communication to his father, "Father, my team could use a little guidance right about now,"

OOC Little bit of god modding here.. to be discussed on msn to make sure you're ok with it!

Angie: Actually it's all perfectly fine! I'll post with Madison, then separately with Chris, lovely postie Ann, thankieeeees!
..................................

@#%$! The alarm exploded in Logan’s head, driving his hands up to cover his ears, the iilicite beer he had been holding dropping onto the kitchen floor where it puddled around his feet Immediately an eager kitten came to lap at the strange golden liquid which, for once, was not the result of its own handiwork! Logan cursed again, not so much because of the pain though that was bad enough, but t more because of the implication of what he was in fact hearing. This wasn’t fire or flood that was being trumpeted over the intercom. This was war. And his family was once again caught up in it!

Wolverine moved instinctively scooping up the kitten in one hand even as his mind filled with worry. Madison and Chris were here with him in the apartment but he was less than sure where Connor was and as for Arisa…. Logan cursed again , how could he have let this happen. Ok she had said she needed time to ‘find herself’ and he had backed off, knowing what that felt like and how important it was to be able to get your head straight without any outside interference. But all the same. She wasn’t even 16, it was the middle of the night and he didn’t know where she was. Or even if she was still in the Institute for that matter!

Just for once he found himself praying that she wasn’t, that she at least was safe from whatever threat was heading towards them. The kitten squirmed in his hands as he headed towards the bedroom where a confused and no doubt frightened Chris would be emerging from sleep into a nightmare. Logan only hoped that his kitten was sleeping with him , because he was certain that the boy wouldn’t leave without the little animals no matter how hard Logan tried to convince him to do otherwise. Quicker in the long term then to take them along and anyway, knowing he had to look out for them might get Chris through this catastrophe more easily. Though Logan didn’t think for a moment that this was going to be anything like a walk in the park.

This wasn’t supposed to happen! Even if deep inside they all knew that the Institute was a target, still those who, like him, had made their home there felt it was somehow impregnable, one small still point of safety in a universe that was all too often hostile to their kind. Was that too much to ask, too much to hope for, Apparently so, for there was no sign of the alarm letting up and now Logan could hear the sound of running footsteps in the corridors as those around him responded to its call.

"Hank what’s our status?" Logan said into his com badge, to be met with only static and the harsh sound of interference. Damn it all, how could they be doing that? Hank was too careful and his systems too complex for them to be blocked! And yet here communications were down all the same. Madison was out now looking angry and pained as the noise blasted into her sensitive ears. Logan nodded over to her in sympathy before laying his hand on the handle of Chris’s door. Before he could turn it though the com badge won its own particular little victory over whoever was attacking them and stuttered into life at least long enough for Logan to get Connors message.

"Father, my team could use a little guidance right about now," Relief flooded through Wolverine as he heard his sons voice. He sounded worried certainly but unhurt at least for now. And that was how he was going to stay. How all of his family was going to stay if Logan had any say in the matter. Ok son he replied, praying that the link would hold, "Get them together and head for the nearest exit. Do not engage the enemy unless you have to. Help those who need assistance but don’t take any unnecessary risks. This is a retreat not a confrontation Got that”

It was a leaders instructions to a team trained in combat rather than a father’s message to his son and Logan was all to well aware of that. But it was what Connor needed to hear to survive. And so Logan had sent it first, fearing to be cut off, taking the risk that once more Connor might think him uncaring if the fates were cruel and kept the rest of the message from getting through. Because there was more. Something that had to be said this time as it had not been in the past!

"Ill get Madi and Chris to safety” he told his son “and then I’ll come for you. Do you here me Connor? I will find you and I will get you out. I promise!"

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
The halls were empty, the chill of the air enough to send goosebumps up Madison's arms and across her flesh wherever it was bare and exposed. The hi-heeled boots made a soft tapping on the ground as the feral walked, a curious silence in the world around her, an eerie darkness touched by pale light which cast even more eerier shadows. Shorts left most of her thighs exposed, the boots at least crept up most of the calf, though the tank top did little to help her arms, which folded meekly across the youngest Enright's chest. "Connor?" It was just a whisper, not that Madison would admit even to herself that she was scared, a distant clanking caused the feral's steps to hesitate, a door closed ahead and that meant someone was there! Breaking out into a sprint, the athletically slim youth made her way swiftly towards where the sound had come from. Hands eagerly grabbed at the handle and threw open the door, not even closing it behind her as she ran, the tapping of her heels strangely gone and a smooth transition from gloom to light came effortlessly, seemingly unnoticed by Madison as she tried to catch up with whoever was ahead of her.

"Wait!" A small hand reached out, though her foot got tagged in something, and Madison felt herself falling, young hands bracing for the impact sure to come as a sharp pain burned hot in her side, a pained whimper cried out into the shrubbery and trees that now surrounded her. IT only lasted a minute, but long enough for her to sit up carefully and stare at her legs, the muddied sneakers from so long ago that she always used to wear ignored as her small fingers started to gently roll up the jean leg to better see her knee where the fabric had torn and got bloodied up. As soon as the wound was glimpsed it seemed to already be healing, not as quickly as when she'd grow up, but still very fast compared to the other kids.

"Madison?" The gruff voice was so near, so comforting, young brown eyes could look up right into the face of her father as he bent down, also staring at the knee which now had almost entirely closed, and completely vanished by the time he had settled on his knee. A tender large hand brushed away the lingering blood and helping roll the jean leg back down. "You're doing just fine Madison," Logan's strong arms seemed to help Madison so easily to her feet that it was more as if he had just picked her up and balanced her till strength flooded back into her legs. Madison grinned almost smugly up at her father, torn both between pride and guilt, knowing most 7 year olds didn't need to learn survival tactics, most 7 year old girls gossiped about silly things and played with flowers and danced around to music. "Come on now, you're mothers waiting at the finish," The girl took a moment to brush off the dirt from her jeans, though lost interest as Logan added; "And she has cakes and treats," Sweets! The young girl turned around excitedly and continued her dash through the obstacle course, she wasn't sure where Connor was, if he gets there first he'll just play with Arisa, that just pushed Madi's drive to win, if she was there first he'd praise her for winning and want to challenge her with other games of their own that Arisa was too young to play in.

A stream was coming up, she grinned at the challenge of the small stream and increased her pace to try and leap clear over it, and with all her energy and focus, the young feral leaped... With a thud she landed, the tapping of heeled boots echoing in the empty room, fading only as Madison's legs slowed to a stop. "Michael?" The astral form of the crippled mutant pushed himself away from the wall which had supported him, his handsome features dimly lit by the pale light in the gloomy room. "Have you seen Connor?" The other mutant smiled almost sympathetically at her question, which tied her stomach into knots, "I've ben looking for him.." There was that look again, and the green clad young man seemed to glide so effortlessly towards her, unhindered by his mortal body. "I'm sorry Madison.. he took Arisa and Chris out with your folks, they left a few hours ago, they just were spending the day out together, must have lost track of the time, they were excited about your mother being back though," He explained, his words so obviously knocking Madison breathless, "My mum?" It couldn't be, she died years ago, "Why didn't she send for me, I could have gone with them, I wasn't doing anything important," Her pain reached his ears i seemed and Michael placed a comforting hand on her shoulder "You've embarrassed her, that's all, she'll get over it, don't worry, we can go to the danger room if you want?" It was a kind enough offer, but she didn't want to go there, she wanted to go out with the others, why could Chris and Arisa go but not her? She never ran away and she wasn't some stray brought home!! She never disowned any of them like Connor had, she did everything she could for them... ok.. so could do more, that was difficult to deny.. but she never said she didn't love them, she never ran away from them like Connor and Arisa had! There was a scream, so painful that her heart lept into her throat and just as Madison reached out towards Michael who sounded in pain, the world changed again, fluid and effortless just like the other times.

A hand threw aside the blanket, bear feet slipped from the bed, softly guiding the feral across her room to the door as the screaming turned into some sort of siren, her hand grabbed at the handle, pulling it open. The siren hammered at her ear drums, confusion and upset clearly settled upon her features as her lips curved into a strained frown.

"Hank what’s our status?" Her father's voice called out, only it wasn't Hank's voice that replied, instead it was Connor's, was this another dream? "Father, my team could use a little guidance right about now," Behind Logan the other bedroom door opened, Chris's small face looking frightened as he peeked through, unsure, confused, and Connor wasn't here to comfort him. "Get them together and head for the nearest exit. Do not engage the enemy unless you have to. Help those who need assistance but don’t take any unnecessary risks. This is a retreat not a confrontation Got that" Retreat? Madison covered her hears with both palms of her hands for a moment, she had no idea what was happening... surely she was still safely snug in bed. And yet, life as an X-men should have taught her better then that, a groan almost escaped her in frustration. If there was anything worse then a full on attack, if this indeed was actually happening, was a full scale attack interrupting her beauty sleep! "Ill get Madi and Chris to safety" Madison's mouth twisted slightly, looking down at her white top that had 'Sleepng Beauty' printed across her bust with black satin shorts. Like hell she was being whisked off like this! "and then I’ll come for you. Do you here me Connor? I will find you and I will get you out. I promise!" Spinning about she charged back into her room, grabbing a passionately discarded rucksack under the bed and shoving a handful of her socks and underwear from the draw into it, not taking time to sort though anything. A pair of jeans were pulled on, a tight singlet wiggled into with a jacket thrown over top. Sockless feet were shoved into old black sneakers and within a minute she was once again emerging from the room, ready and able for whatever fight may come... she's never been involved in something so close to home before.. vampire invasion aside.

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
There was a deep intake of breath as the sound erupted all around Chris, shattering any sense of dream from his mind, ripping him from rest into the darkness of this frightful moment, whatever was happening didn't seem good at all. No sound that bad could mean something good! Nervously the boy sat up, tense and quiet as the world seemed suddenly so alien to him, the false sense of security under his blanket and up high kept Chis frozen, though soon voices were heard outside, Logan's first, then Connor's? It was difficult to tell considering all the noise, so Chris took in another nervous breath, reaching under his pillow and pulling free the small photo of Connor and Logan. It was so simple a photo, Connor was leaning against the fridge talking to someone unseen in the image, the one holding the camera, which was Madison, he looked amused at her, though was obviously telling her off too, which made sense once Madison explained that she took his camera from his room without asking so she could take photos randomly of him. His sister couldn't remember why she had done it, just that she was reaction to some comment Connor had made, and Logan happened to be at the fridge, his hand on it ready to open the door to grab a beer. Connor let Chris keep it, since then Chris had gotten so many more photos of his own, but it was a gift from Connor so it was special. Connor had joked that if Chris kept it on him so closely then he and Logan would always feel the boys arms firmly around them (since Chris had clutched it for most of the rest of the day once it was given to him).

Right now, as times before, Chris drew comfort from that memory, even if he did know it was impossible for the photo to come alive and help him, it helped in another way, it helped give him hope, hope that indeed he wasn't alone and no matter what happens there were people who would protect him, or try their best to. Nervously Chris climbed down the ladder and crept towards the door, reaching out for the handle hesitantly and opening the door just a crack to see what was happening, Logan was in sight and Madison was just coming from her room too. With another slight breath the boy inched the door open further, but lingered where he stood uncertain if he was supposed to be out or not.. it was Logan's last words that sent a real flutter of anxiety to Chris's belly.

"What's happening?" The voice was soft, as if not wanting to be caught doing the wrong thing, should he still be in bed? Was he supposed to be doing something? Logan sounded urgent, and from what Chris understood they were leaving... was that true? ...He didn't want to leave here! What was scaring everyone, what was causing this, why couldn't it just go away!

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
Kane merely nodded at Connor's reply, the very faintest of smiles curving his lips as he waited for something to happen, for an order to be issued. Of course he could act independently, deciding things on his own, organising whatever... but there was a part in him that waited to be told that he should think for himself rather than take initiative right away. The excuse was beginning to get old, but since he wasn't using it himself, it was perfectly fine to blame his mental conditioning for that lack of reaction. In fact, the weather-controlling mutant wasn't even aware of his brainwashed state, as it were. He rarely questioned his own behaviour. That was, naturally, also part of his programming.

Logan's answer came promptly. Giving clear orders in panic-inspiring situations were what Kane considered the quality of a true leader, and thus he appreciated Wolverine's matter-of-fact reply. The last part had been a bit emotional, but he could let that pass. This were father and son after all, and even Tempest wasn't quite detached enough not to understand that. He had sent the more important bit first, that was all that mattered.

"Is there any spot they told you guys to bring your teams to in case of emergency?" he asked when the transmission had ended, his tactical self silently taking over. "And considering nobody seems to know what's going on, getting everyone out through one of the hidden passages should be safest, right? I mean... don't want a bunch of kids run into an army of demons in the hallways."

It was unusually disrespectful of Kane to simply dish out suggestions in the disguise of questions like that, implying Connor may not have thought of either of these things. He noticed that too, briskly adding "Just saying." as if that made any difference. Maybe it was because Wolverine's son wasn't officially the team leader, or maybe the effect of the drills he had received those years ago was slowly waning, but there was a sudden urge in him to just take over and shoo people into the secret passage opposite the normal exit. Then again, there was always the possibility that this too was part of the programme. Take over when the leader seems incapable. That was a bit harsh of course, but Apocalypse wasn't exactly known to be the lenient type.

Seeing somebody making their way to the door, obviously wanting to run out into the hallways, he couldn't restrain himself. "Hey, stay inside 'till we've got a plan!" he called out over the blaring sirens with an authority by which he would have been amazed himself had he been liable to that sort of reaction.

For everyone comes the time when they have to take over responsibility. It stands to argue whether there is also a time when they can get rid of it again.

"Get them together and head for the nearest exit. Do not engage the enemy unless you have to. Help those who need assistance but don’t take any unnecessary risks. This is a retreat not a confrontation Got that” Connor eyed Kane as Logan spoke, making sure those who were around could hear and seeing if Tempest agreed with it.
"Ill get Madi and Chris to safety” Although his father could not see, Connor gave a nod, a look of intent relief in his flaming blue eyes as he thought of Chris getting escorted out of this mess safely, unlike his sisters, Chris was thoroughly defenseless. “and then I’ll come for you. Do you here me Connor? I will find you and I will get you out. I promise!" It was a surprise, one that gave Connor's mind pause for thought, was this one of those moments which lead to Connor feeling let down because his father made a promise he wouldn't keep later? Consider the scale of this problem, Connor couldn't really blame his father if he couldn't get to him, and out of the hundreds around him, what right did Connor have to demand his father's sole attention? And yet... some part of him still felt that stab of hope, that thought that his father would do that, that his father would do that for him.

The white haired youth was telling off a restless student, asking questions to them and while one or two seemed able to respond the others seemed too disorientated to focus much. "You heard Wolverine," Connor addressed them, using his father's code name to try and swell some authority and not just sound like some kid parroting his father, "We're to consider this a retreat! No needless risks, Tempest can take the lead, the students who know the exit routine stick ahead with him, the rest in the middle and I'll take the rear," They might all be mutants but some were more dangerous then others and while Connor was still trying to get used to his abilities again he knew enough to know he could hold his own if he must...survival instincts weren't so easy a thing to forget. "Fall in with Tempest, move it," Connor motioned towards the door, noting at least two of the others were already trying to aid Tempest with directions and motioning where to go, "Father..?" There was silence in reply, "Dad if you can hear me, Tempest and I are with a group heading to the exists somewhere near the dorms now.." While there was crackling for a moment, a brief thought that surely the line was open was then diminished as the silence seemed profound, if Logan had heard or not, Connor could only guess.

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
Only fragments of sound came now over the communicator, the wavering signal making further conversation impossible but at least telling Logan that his son and those around him were functioning as they should be. As a team! Even if it was a team without a leader.

Logan was all for old X men making their way back to the Institute and taking up their place in things again. God knows he’d done it himself enough times over the years. But still, Bishop’s behaviour irritated him. Especially at this moment in time. You didn’t accept to take charge of something as important as a team if you knew you were likely to disappear at any moment. And yet that was exactly what Bishop had done. Crap Logan thought wryly. ”Listen to me! I’m becoming responsible in my old age. Who’d have thought!”

Wolverine’s immediate responsibilities however lay elsewhere than with the Hellions. They were in fact a whole lot closer to home. "What's happening?" Chris asked as he peeked out from behind his bedroom door his young face already clouded with anxiety. Instantly Logan crossed to him, laying a reassuring hand on the boy’s shoulder as he started to explain the situation .

“ The Institute is under attack, son “ he said tersely , knowing that there wasn’t time for anything other than the bitter truth. “ We have to get out as soon as possible but that’s all right because there are those passages I told you about the other day that we can take when things like this happen and Madison and I will be right there to make sure nothing happens to you. The kittens…. Logan held out the rucksack and its squirming occupant “Are your responsibility Chris. So get Missie and we’ll drop her in safe and sound.

This was hard. Maybe in its own way even harder than knowing that this supposedly safe haven was proving to be anything but that! Then again.. you had to have been there. You had to have seen what this backpack represented to frightened kittens. Or to a boy who by his own admission had at times been thrown aside like them.

So when he returned with the now trusting animal sleepily submitting to his familiar touch, Logan’s heart went out to them both knowing the trauma he was going to put them through! But being able to comfort only one of them with his words! If indeed he managed that much!

“She’s going to be scared” he told the boy gruffly “because last time she was in a bag like this it was because nobody wanted her. But that’s all changed now. Now she’s there because we love her. And we want to protect her. She’s part of a family now and family look after their own.”

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
"The Institute is under attack, son" Logan confirmed to the boy, who’s heart sank deeply at the thought, still it wasn’t like there was a choice to be made in regards to if they react or not, reaction to this danger was a given, but Chris couldn’t help feeling as if he were somehow the reason for this. The negativity of his selfish likes that made him happy staying around here might have somehow rubbed off on all those around him to make this happen… was that even possible? He didn’t know, but Chris’s mother had made a few comments about something like that happening.

"We have to get out as soon as possible but that’s all right because there are those passages I told you about the other day that we can take when things like this happen and Madison and I will be right there to make sure nothing happens to you. The kittens…." Announced the older man quickly, holding out a moving sack which, Chris quickly discovered, held the other Madison and Arisa’s kittens, "Are your responsibility Chris. So get Missie and we’ll drop her in safe and sound. " The thought of being responsible for Madison’s kitten was almost as frightful as the prospect of getting grounded for doing something wrong. But Logan trusted him enough, maybe too much, but regardless, it gave the youth a sense of strength inside of him that empowered the boy to turn around and find the anxious cat who had hidden beneath his desk, curled tightly into a ball with only her twitching ears poking out from her otherwise rounded form. "It’s ok Missy, good girl," Cradling her, Chris rose, eyed the desk for a moment, and scooped up some of the frameless photos awaiting to find their place, carefully shoved them into his pocket, and returned to his doorway where Logan awaited. Carefully, the boy placed the feline in with it’s siblings, and hoping against hope that none of them would think they would be tossed aside somewhere as they had been once before.

"She’s going to be scared" A small frown of worry creased over Chris’s brow as he stared down at the sack now holding them, tugging them closer in an attempt to support their weight and not have them dragged along. "because last time she was in a bag like this it was because nobody wanted her. But that’s all changed now. Now she’s there because we love her. And we want to protect her. She’s part of a family now and family look after their own." With a fluttering heart, Chris nodded to show he understood, held them more carefully to show he cared for them, and took in a deep breath to show he was as ready as he’d ever be.

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
Chris was scared that much was obvious. And lets face it he had every reason to be. Hell Logan himself was pretty close to being terrified. This wasn’t just another battle he was going into. This was one his kids were having to fight as well. And one of them.. his kid in his heart at least .. didn’t have the benefit of regeneration to fall back on if all else failed. Chris was just a child and a human one at that. And that meant that he was infinitely breakable!

Not that the bastards storming the institute would take that into account. If Connor and Madison had been brought up ready for combat from an early age, Chris was far from being ready to handle something like this. Nor should he ever have had to. He wasn’t supposed to get caught up in their war. Stupid, stupid reasoning! What had they been thinking of keeping him here. Believing that somehow the Enright’s luck wouldn’t rub off on him? His sons and daughters got kidnapped! People took them away and hurt them? What had possessed him to imagine that Chris could somehow escape this curse?

Still this was not the time for self recrimination, or for fear. This was a time to fight. To fight to keep him and the others from getting hurt! And at least this time Logan would be right there where he was needed. At their side! And so like the boy standing before him Logan put on a brave face , thrusting his worries to the back of his mind. Letting himself become not the killing machine he had been designed to be but rather what he had made himself into. A warrior! One with a cause to uphold and loved ones to protect. And all the more dangerous because of it

“Ok kid” he said with a reassuring smile. “You stick with Maddie and you’ll be just fine. Wolverine met his daughter’s feral eyes, making sure she understood her role in this little operation. Whoever was out there would have to go through him to get to her. But they would have to go through her as well to get to Chris. “Ill go on ahead and open up the route.” He told them knowing that only Madison would fully understand what that might involve. Because one way or another they were getting out of here. And god help anyone who might try to stop them!.

Re: The Silence Shattered: The Attack Begins
“Ok kid” Madison took a step towards the door, her eagerness to rush. “You stick with Maddie and you’ll be just fine.” And that’s when Madison turned her face to stare at Logan, as if in disbelief, and that’s exactly what she was! All the hours clocked in for training, all the crap she’s dealt with and survived, and she was on babysitter duty?! Part of the young woman could see the responsibility, the other part just saw the burden, sure, Logan did things on his own, that was always the case, but his kids weren’t all that different, they liked getting their hands dirty too! Or at least Madison did… Connor only if he felt there was no other way, but once he got worked up enough, he was just as lethal! “Ill go on ahead and open up the route.” With that, her father moved to leave the room, and yet, Madison felt strangely abandoned, she wanted to go find Connor, they worked well together as a team, they always had, but instead Logan expected her to go away from the fight!

"Keep up with me at least," She demanded irritably while approaching the door, and with at, Chris hurried towards her, nervous and frightened and confused, but knowing none of that would help anyone right now. He wanted to cry, especially now that Logan had gone, everything had seemed so much more safer while he was around. The halls were scary too, the noise that would come and go as the alarm sounded, shut off and then sounded again, the yells and rushing students, the orders being called out, some of the youths were going one way whiles others went another. It was confusion, and yet Madison seemed to know where to go, of course she was hardly going to spend her time explaining to Chris that she had absorbed her father’s enhanced senses and was using them to track him. While making her way through the students, of course Madison did take her chance to pick up another power or two that she thought could be useful, though that meant her focus was entirely on anything other then Chris, which made him feel rather lonely at that point. The rush Madison was in also made it difficult, the bag of kittens seemed heavier and awkward the longer he held them, and with her moving so quickly he barely had any time to readjust his hold.

"I could be helping Connor right now," Came the eventual complaint that caused Chris to look up at Madison as she guided him through the halls, ignoring the disturbances around them, "But no, I’m stuck here holding your hand," The sigh of frustration unnerved Chris a little, he didn’t want to think that she’d just up and leave him all alone but Madison had proved that in the end, she did have a mind of her own, and he wasn’t sure where her mind would lead the older daughter of Logan’s, given what the feral just said. "We can go find him… if you want… I won’t tell anyone," The offer from the boy was received with a snort as Madison peered about a corner.

"My brother may argue a lot with our dad, but they’re biggest issue sometimes is that they’re so alike," Pressing her back against the wall while waiting to check that no one was sneaking around up the hall, she listened for a moment, and Chris just stood patiently, quiet and yet still trying to decipher what Madison meant, "If he sees I took you there with me, Connor would tell me off just as readily as dad… and I fully intend to have a date next week for a dance, some drinks, and fun, I planned it all week, I even know what I’m wearing, so I can't afford to get grounded," At this, Chris found himself generally staring, not sure how to reply… she was worried about a dance… and drinking… a week from now… Chris was struggling to keep up with her and there were shouts all around and that was what she was more concerned about? Of course, Chris didn’t understand that Madison had been through so much growing up as a child in Xaviers, and her recent ordeals, that she coped better not thinking about the serious ‘here and now’ situations and tried to joke and tease and even to a degree ignore whatever was going on.

TBC – In a thread with Sue… will talk to Rebecca about how they meet up!
