The smell of Stetson
I just HAD to share this story with you.
The Second week of June My husband and I started moving into the house that he and his recently deceased father bought together. Carl had passed in April from C.O.P.D and his granddaughter was staying with hem until the place she was going to rent opened up. When she moved out she had caused the family a lot of trouble. Things that Carl would have been furious about.
We were rearranging the living room and took down the bulletin board that he had above his desk. Her picture was on it. Lonnie (my husband) angrily ripped the photo off the bulletin and told me to throw it away. I took it to the kitchen trash shredded it and threw it away. I walked back into the living room and began to help with the rearranging when I stated “It smells like Stetson in here.” To which Lonnie, his aunt and cousin replied. “Yep, it is strong too.” All the cologne was in the bathroom medicine cabinet and no one had bothered it. We began to talk about how Carl loved to wear Stetson and that maybe he was with us. I went to set down in his chair and it was cool to the touch and the rest of the room was almost HOT as it had been all evening with no AC running.
Carl had been very put out by this granddaughter and was hoping for her to get moved out. Had he lived to see the mess, both physical and financial, he would have been too cross for words. I think that the smell of his cologne was his way of saying that he knew what she had done and that he was equally as mad.

What a great story! I really wish you had had a camera around! I bet you are right and he was probably celebrating the *itch's departure!

Re: The smell of Stetson
I had no Idea where the camera was at the time. We were dealing with our stuff, his stuff and junk that the granddaughter left behind. I have been told by a co-worker of hers that her WONDERFUL job that she rubbed in our face is on thin Ice. Something that seamed secure before Carl died. Maybe he IS getting her back. And *itch is too nice a word to use for her
