Thursday March 29th: As It All Comes Crashing Down
The dorms were placid, as often they were when arguments weren’t occurring, either the inhabitants were at each other’s throats or blatantly ignoring one another for the sake of harmony. For now it was relatively peaceful, Frost was watching TV, a few other members had joined in the living room, though some were doing their own thing quietly while half distracted by the TV. Garnet and Racheal were also there, and Max’s entrance would have clearly alerted them to his arrival, however Max gave no notice, slamming the door to the dorm room behind him and heading for his own private room.. which also was slammed shut behind him. If anyone intended on getting a peaceful lunch break before any afternoon classes, they weren’t going to get it in the dorm it would seem. And as if to confirm any thoughts to this, a loud angry yell was followed by a heavy crash. The hot tempered youth managing to push his chest of draws right over with a nasty sounding slam into the ground, with the things on top now scattered across the centre of the floor.

Another rather damaging sound occurred a moment later as a loud grunt seemed to signal another item being propelled into the door, which shook as a rarely ever touched school book was thrown at it. Followed by something else that sounded suspiciously like a side lamp.

"What do they know?!" The demand was only lightly muffled by the walls and distance, yelled out so angrily if one didn’t know Max they might assume he was infact trying to tell those outside something. "I’m fuckinq TIRED of all this fuckinq @#%$," With each raised word another crashing sound seemed to occur, followed in the end by an even louder yell that gave way to a sudden silence as Max fell on his bed and buried his head beneath a pillow, which muffled the next string of frustrated growls.

They knew nothing about his family, and yet they stood back and judged, trying to tell him just how little his father cared, how little love her received, how dare they suggest all that, how dare they try to rip apart his relationship with his father! It wasn’t like his father didn’t have reasons! It wasn’t like he tried to hurt Max, it wasn’t like Max didn’t deserve it half the time either! They had no right to say that sort of stuff... he’d show them all somehow, he’d prove to them it wasn’t like that. A shaky breath was drawn in, a sniffle, a soft sob as the moisture of tears soaked into his pillow, all that mattered was proving them wrong, but how was he going to do that while his father was so upset with him?

TBC: Racheal, then Garnet.

Re: Thursday March 29th: As It All Comes Crashing Down
Generally, unless it was required by the rules surrounding the team dormitories, Racheal was nowhere to be seen. It was more than a dislike, an uncomfortable settling around her team ‘mates’. It was shame as well; quietness had come over the feral more than usual. And sightings of her had been fewer and farther between than just a few days ago. It was a stupid incident. Something so tiny to others who couldn’t understand. Some would ignore it. But the Exiles weren’t exactly normal. Even if a single comment hadn’t been raised, Racheal knew instinctively that that one show of weakness could be used against her. She avoided the fights, sneaking silently off when once she’d have at least listened, rowed with Max. And it wasn’t that her temper had settled, for the anger could still be seen in her, but at the same time a deep fear which had so accidentally been uncovered.

Perhaps the only one who could come close to understanding was Frost. But at least she had an excuse, for wasn’t her power, her life, the opposite to that of the element which invoked so much fear in Feral’s heart? Fire… Yes, fire could be frightening, but Racheal’s fear was a true phobia. Something which haunted her in her nightmares. So when she’d not been able to control that fear during one training session, considering her company was it any surprise that those around her had noticed? And she wouldn’t talk about it. Even with the dark haired mutant’s shame, she was proud, feline. Any attempt to talk to her about it was snubbed, with a ‘I’m going out’. She was always going out, silently training. In fact, of late, it was the only thing supporting her need to leave. She wanted to run, she didn’t want to admit to her fears, nor face the normally less than forgiving Exiles. But for now she had to. She had to tolerate it.

It was the only reason she was around today. She’d spent most of the morning reading or training, as first thing the weather was too cold to spend too much time outdoors. And now, after an early breakfast, hunger had struck, so she’d retreated silently back to the shared common area. Of course, it was between classes, so others were there too, wandering around, grabbing a quick lunch or jus relaxing as Frost seemed to be. Eyes low she moved to the kitchen, quietly finding something even her inapt cooking skills could manage, throwing a sandwich together quickly. She was about to quietly work her way through to her small room, to eat in peace, when Max made his entrance. At once she was on guard, alert as if ready to defend herself from any attack. Not that they came regularly, or that he was the only one to start it, but since the training island there had been a tension between them, and more than once it had erupted into a fight, even if it was only a brief exchange of heated words. But this time there didn’t seem to even be a pause between his startling entrance and the slamming of his room door. Which lead to some curiosity. No snide remarks, glances, to anyone. She winced visibly as something heavy fell, eyes fixed now on Max’s door. He’d been, off his usual, for a little while now, not so quick to start a fight. And although there had been some concern, on a level that he was human, was a team mate. Despite his sometimes arrogant attitude he could suffer.

Flinching as she heard the smashing, she stood there, at a loss. Considering how badly the Exiles were known for their team spirit and general friendliness, the chances of someone going and seeing what was wrong, because, from the outbursts and general destructive sounds, there obviously was something wrong, were low. If it had been anyone but Max, she’d have gone herself. In fact, there was only one thing stopping her from helping Max herself, and that was pure common sense. They clashed, and their mutual dislike for each other was clear. Racheal herself wasn’t sure why. Yes, they disagreed on various issues, but they agreed on some as well and that seemed just as infuriating. The pure simple fact seemed to be they just didn’t, couldn’t get on. So her going, offering support, a person to talk to when the wrong thing from either of them could result in injuries to the other. No, it was like trying to put oil on a fire to put it out. It could be done with the best intentions, but only spelled disaster from ignorance.

But that didn’t meant she could leave the metaphoric fire burning away. Just because she was the oil didn’t mean she couldn’t give the water a nudge. She looked around slowly from where she stood, as if hesitant to leave that spot in case something happened and she had to step in. It was then she spotted Garnet. At which point her mind when into overdrive. At one point, she’d have been the obvious, immediate choice, but lately things seemed awkward between the two. At the same time, she had to weigh her as a possible choice against the other Exiles. And whilst there were those who she wouldn’t have said would be a ‘god awful’ choice, at the same time perhaps, despite it all, Garnet would be the best to get through to him.

Her eyes were fixed on their fiery leader, an involuntary shiver running down her spine which she mentally tried to shake off. Her eyes lowered for an instant, as if loosing any courage to speak, to make her suggestion. But hadn’t it been a shyness, a feeling that it wasn’t her place that had caused so much trouble on the training island, all though noone else seemed to think so? Twice she’d screwed up there, and if she fell silent now, would that do any better? Silently she took a deep breath, quietly gathering her courage, which wasn’t lacking as such, it just had to come over her quiet nature, stepping towards Garnet slowly.

”Garnet..” She started slowly, once more feeling the urge to stop, but forcing herself to continue. ”Someone should speak to Max…” She’d gotten the feeling that, if generally left to their own devices, as a whole the Exiles would just make all attempts to ignore the outburst. After all, the Exiles weren’t really a team. Just a bunch of individuals who might work together to get the job done if it meant they could leave quicker. ”I would but, I really don’t think that would work out If the stone mutant’s room wasn’t already ripped to pieces, it probably would be if she tried to speak to him. Everyone was aware of the tension between them, so she was pretty sure that Circe would work out what she meant. Lips parted slightly as if to continue, but she didn’t know what to say, just looking back over her shoulder at Max’s door, concern written on her face. She’d vowed to herself to protect the Exiles regardless. And that included Max, though she found herself slightly surprised that she felt quite that degree of concern. Perhaps she was getting soft.

Re: Thursday March 29th: As It All Comes Crashing Down
After having had shut herself in with her work for a few days, Garnet decided that seclusion probably wasn’t going to help her standing on the team. They already thought her some kind of arrogant Barbie doll with a tendency to show off, didn’t they? There was nothing to be gained from giving them reason to add “anti-social” to the list as well. Not that she would have stood out with that personality trait. As a matter of fact, maybe the others would be happy to find a common denominator.

That cynical thought didn't succeed in keeping her from abandoning her room to mingle. Granted that was a bit of an overstatement seeing as she simply took her work into the common room and wasn't exactly chatting the night away with her team, but as far as she was concerned, it was a signal. Whether or not the others would follow her lead was up to them really, but at least she showed them that she was available if they wanted to talk to her for one reason or another.

Max's entrance was nothing short of dramatic and it didn't get quieter after he had slammed his door shut. On the contrary, the ruckus that followed deepened the frown already creasing Aurora's forehead. Every few seconds, she looked up as if to will her eyes to develop x-ray powers and find out whether there was anything serious going on, struggling with herself. Should she go and check on him? Would that be an intrusion into his privacy or her duty? With all the things she had done that had been misinterpreted ever since she had taken up leadership of Exiles, Garnet had become increasingly careful with what she did. That didn't mean she wasn't being misunderstood anymore, of course, but at least it was for less obvious reasons these days. She wasn't sure whether or not that was an improvement.

The final decision came in the form of Racheal asking her to talk to Max. There was a hint of surprise on Aurora's face as she replied with a nod: "You are quite right." and made to approach the angry yelling. Considering her quiet and somehow rather shy demeanour, the feral had been the very last person Aurora had expected to step up to her. By the sound of it, she actually seemed a bit concerned, which the fire-elemental took as a good sign.

Knocking on Max's door, she wondered what she should do if her ex simply ignored her. Kick down the door? Try shouting herself? Write a letter to his mother? Especially the latter option sounded intriguing, though she suddenly found it very hard to keep a straight face as she imagined the first few lines. 'Dear Mrs Chadstone, Max has been a naughty boy...' It sounded a bit as if taken from some SM flick. Or what she would imagine them to be like anyway.

"Max? Are you all right?" It was the most stupid question possible seeing as he definitely was anything but okay, but at the same time the only opener that seemed appropriate. "Can I come in?" What exactly she wanted to do once inside, Aurora didn't know. Probably try and get him to talk... though Chadstone wasn't exactly known for being quick at confiding in people.

For everyone comes the time when they have to take over responsibility. It stands to argue whether there is also a time when they can get rid of it again.

Re: Thursday March 29th: As It All Comes Crashing Down
"Max? Are you all right?" Of course he was, Max always sounded this cheery! He almost growled into the pillow from frustration, "Can I come in?" And then what? He couldn’t take any more moaning and whining and insults thrown his way, he’d rather throw himself out the window and see just how durable a stone form was once it’s smashed on the ground below. See how mighty and all knowing all the jerks feel then. Speaking of jerks, if Matt wasn’t being one currently Max just might have made his way over to the Goth’s room for company, maybe a drink or something… being drunk seemed like the only upbeat moments as of late. Maybe he could have Garnets company if she wasn’t such a prissy snob half the time, always looking at him as if he was in the wrong no matter what he tried to explain to her. Then again lately she hadn’t really even bothered with that, now he was just another face in the dorm and meant just as much to her as any of the other idiots on the team. There was a time he enjoyed her company, she could be fun when she wasn’t being so uptight at times… of course, Max didn’t always understand sometimes she had to be hard in order to be a good leader.

With memories of the better times around her creeping into Max’s mind, the young Chadstone dragged himself off the bed and lightly kicked something aside that was in his way as he moved to the door. A stoned hand grasped at the handle, twisting the knob and opening it, though making no effort to step aside as he stared out at Garnet. There seemed to be a mixed blend of fury and upset and for the moment the doorway appeared more of a dare for her to enter then an open offer, one wrong word and he’d be happy to slam it in her face. It would be a lie to say Max had no desire for company, in truth he was desperate not to be alone, especially as Scott’s words resonated through his mind, the comment about friends, having none, knowing nothing about them. It wasn’t like Max considered them a rich resource, but at the same time he knew there were people in the school who considered friendships so important, Max was popular, but he didn’t see how invaluable they were, even he knew half the people seemed to only hang around for certain reasons. Max learned that the hard way from Lara, friends were friends when you had something to offer, just like his parents had always said.

Now here was Garnet, standing there, wanting to come into his room, for what? To ramble on about how much a victim he was? How stupid or naive or idiotic he were? The often charming eyes seemed cold for the moment, his arms having shifted to stone up to his elbows but no where else seemed affected, it wasn’t uncommon for Max’s form to solidify when his emotions were high, there were times in training they were supposed to not use their abilities and if he got too worked up his form would change and he’d have to have a break in order to change back.

But this wasn't training, and Max wasn't in the mood for any more attacks, he just wanted everything to stop, he wanted everyone to go away, but more importantly, just once he wanted someone to make him feel as if things weren't as bad as it all seemed. And that was a rare treat indeed.
