Glad to be in the company of so many who know what this is all about. Excuse typos - life is blurry!
Have been reading on and off for a year - time to jump in.
Have had uveitis probably all my life. (Now 50 yrs old) Mother thought I had conjunctivitis and gave me same meds as my cousin who did have conjunctivitis. Can't blame her tho - wasn't $$ for Drs and meds.
Had a full blown flare at 21 yrs old- right eye only. This time went to Dr and battled flare with predforte drops - prednisone and then injections....both subtenon and interocular.
Things calmed down somewhat after birth of 2 daughters. Slight flare - using drops only when needed. (my children used to wake up in the morning and pretend to put in their eye drops just like Mommy)
After 10 yrs of right eye only, things took a turn and the inflammation invaded my left eye as well.
Once again full blown assault of above mentioned meds on my eyes - along with cataract surgery on the right without a lens implant. Have had CME in right since this surgery.
5 yrs later - big flare in left again - this time found out more info - I am HLA-B27 positive.
Under control once again with aforementioned meds.
4 yrs ago I was diagnosed with Lyme. Never saw a tick - nor rash - but had all clinical symtoms and live in a hot spot for Lyme - next to Valley Forge Park. Also had Bells Palsey.
Have had low-level inflammation since. 1 year ago all hell broke loose! Full out meds as before with injectoins going on every 8 weeks at least. No blood work was ever conclusive for Lyme.
Sometime during the last year - when I could manage to see well enough (new computer set to large and gigundo keyboard installed) I found this web-site along with uveitis.org. I can't believe there are so many of you out there! No one I see on a day to day basis knows what the heck I am talking about.
Well after 1 yr of all meds and injections I knew this was going on long enough from reading posts at this site. I did make an appt with Dr. Foster and saw him in Dec and Jan - I am scheduled for a vitrectomy on 1/29. Then will start a new course of meds to hopefully bring this under control.
I want to thank you Mike for all the help and info you provide. Also Liz for setting all this up and getting information to people. Along with Dr. Foster who seems to work endlessly to keep people informed and encouraged.
I realized by reading post from parents that they will travel and go to the ends of the earth for their children. As I would for mine. But why didn't I do this for myself?? Finding these web-sites has encouraged me to do more. We all need to take an active role in our health care and learn as much as we can. Don't just take the advise of one Dr - but keep searching for answers.
Thank You!
