VH1 Bands reunited *Show Outcome Disclosed!! Spoilers!!*
I've just been looking at the VH1 Bands Reunited website (one of the few pages my work server will let me look at during office hours....grrrr! ) and note that the omens aren't good for the Squeeze reunion. The spiel says:

"Will the guys in Squeeze be tempted to jam with their old friends? Or would they rather keep the past in the past? Tune in and find out if they're willing to put their divisive break-up behind them and play together one last time."

which doesn't sound too promising, does it? And there have been alot more photos added to the gallery but no more of Squeeze - there's only the happy picture of Chris that has been up all along. The plot thickens! 8o

yeah, one photo, compared to about 23 of berlin. still, worth watching, although i'm not holding my breath as to a reunion.

Re: VH1 Bands reunited
I actually think that a reunion may be a bad thing just now. Chris and Glenn are doing fine on their own, and it is very early in their solo careers which both seem to be shaping up nicely. I’m pretty sure the break-up wasn’t as amicable as we were led to believe either.

I just can't see the point of a one-off reunion because some bloke turns up with a camera. It probably wouldn’t feature Jools and Gilson anyway because they are busy elsewhere. I think the only person to actually gain from this would be whichever bassist they pick. Harry, John and Keith have all been a bit quiet since their respective departures!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe Squeeze has run its course for now?

(That said, if there is a reunion, put me down for a ticket!;) )

Well, I'm sure we're all with you on that one. I can't imagine how they could happily tour as Squeeze, rehashing all the hits again, when they've got their own solo stuff to promote.

It must be very difficult when you can so easily trade on the goodwill of an established name like Squeeze not to want to make life a bit easier for yourself financially. I'm so relieved they never got on the bandwagon of one of these ghastly 70s/80s revivial tours. I agree with you absolutely that their solo careers have got off to a good start and they should persevere with the new directions they're taking.

I can't help hoping that they didn't agree to do the VH1 gig thing. If they want to get back together it should be on their own terms, not just for a bit of cheap telly.

Ho hum. As if my opinion would ever change anything!

Re: VH1 Bands reunited
It seems fairly certain to me that nothing will come of this VH1 thing. I keep thinking that if it had, someone somewhere would have attended a gig/reunion. So unless Privacy Statements were distributed at the event, I just think that it went pear-shaped. :( I'd love to be wrong though.

I read on the Glenn Bulletin Board that Gilson had an interview and really slagged off Glenn. I never saw this (and was offline for a bit, so didn't receive anything from the mailing lists) so can anyone fill me in?

Was this for the VH1 show, Vixx? I know I've heard Glenn mention in the past in an interview that Gilson won't talk to him (after being sacked from the band twice - I can't think why that should be). I've often wondered if this is why Glenn never gets invited onto any of Jools's shows.

Can we actually see it over here? I got the impression it was only on the US version of VH1?

i'm not sure...the people on the squeeze mailing list are wondering if we can see it over here, but by the sound of it it's already been played in the us, and the website is giving out gmt times compared with cet times.

cross your fingers

I think it's due to be aired on 30th January, but only on the US version of VH1.

However, Corina should be able to put up a few snippets from it relating to Glenn, on her site. And in the meantime hopefully there will be a full discussion of what happened on all the respective mailing lists.

Sure you wanna read on??

So, what do people make of this? I'm also in the UK so I haven't seen it for myself, but I've been reading the Squeezefan messages with interest. :)

Do you really think that Jools was as arrogant as it's been implied??!

Re: VH1 Bands reunited
There is a chap on the Squeezefan list from the US who has the show on CD-ROM as an mpeg file and has offered to send it to interested parties. I contacted him this afternoon and he’s happy to post over here too so I’m going to wait and try to watch the programme for myself before commenting.

Jools has always seemed like a decent bloke to me though. He’s been loyal to Gilson over the years and very supportive of Chris when he started his solo stuff.

Re: VH1 Bands reunited
I can see it from Jools's perspective really. There isn't really anything in it for him to reunite with Squeeze. He seems to have fond memories of his bad boy days with the band since that gives him alot of kudos, but now he's 'grown up' and moved on he wants to put as much clear blue water between himself and the band as possible.

He seems happy playing music for the middle classes - he's got cash, got more publicity than he knows what to do with. Why throw himself back into a band that was never as popular or commercially successful as his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra is now? He was never much more than the keyboard player, after all, as Glenn was always the primary music maker and Jools strikes me as a man who likes to be centre stage.

And Squeeze proved it could manage without him very well indeed.

I think he was quite right to let sleeping dogs lie.

Re: VH1 Bands reunited
My perception on Jools is completely different. From watching the episode on tape over and over, it seemed to me he would have tried ? to reunite if scheduling conficts were different. This was a surprise "ambush" and I am sure he could not just drop his projects with a wink of an eye.
I think if things fell differently, he would have reunited, but not play with the other guys.
This is just my opinion.:\

Re: VH1 Bands reunited
I've finally watched it for myself now, and I do think that Jools comes off a bit arrogant. I think that if he had agreed, the reunion would have happened - I just think he thinks he's too big and famous in his own right now to take a step back . . .
