Vampires - Clans and introduction
My family has long been dead, and so am I. But what's left of them is rotting away in pine coffins somewhere, while I have the opportunity to sit here on the balcony, enjoy my drink and look at you. Correct me if I'm being presumptuous, but I suspect that I have the better end of the deal.
I can tell by looking at you that you're not comprehending. Of course you're not these are cynical, rational times, and you're not going to believe that I'm a dead man just because I say so. A century ago it would have been different well, it was quite different the last time I had this little talk with someone but this is the age of facts. And the facts are that corpses don't move, don't walk, don't talk. I'm terribly sorry, my dear, but I have a surprise for you: This corpse does.
So sit down. Please, I insist that you make yourself comfortable. Pour yourself something to drink; preferably from the bottle on the left the stuff on the right is an acquired taste. It's going to be a long evening, and you're going to need a stiff drink or two, I suspect. After all, in the next few hours I'm going to explain to you in excruciating detail why everything you think you know about life and death is wrong. In other words, you don't know a blessed thing about the way the world really works, and I'm going to open your eyes.
You see, most people don't realize that Vampires come with different abilities; they don't all possess super strength or the ability to fly.
There are some vampires rather weak, that turn into creatures as a way to survive, the most common Vampires are the ones we read about in books or see in movies.
Vampires are always hunted, by either Vampire hunters or their own kind. Vampires are always on a look out for other 'kindred', hoping to recruit them into their clans in an attempt to grow stronger.
Inquisition
The Inquisition is one of the most dreaded Vampire organizations, clans that side with the Inquisition are murderous and oppose any vampire that appears to try and cling to their humanity.
Jyhad
The Jyhad is a collection of smaller clans who have agreed to work together, they are all young and under 100 years of age (Meaning they have been undead for 100 years at the most). The Jyhad is often overlooked in vampire culture, most of them however possess mutant abilities on top of their weak vampire skills.
Renaissance
The Renaissance is a collection of clans that believe in continuing what the Kindred call, The Masquerade, when Vampires live in human society posing as a human. Often assisting the Jyhad when they are in trouble, and ancient rivals of the Inquisition.
The Renaissance clans are considered rebels and traitors by the Inquisition, who considers them weak for clinging so tightly to their humanity. Although not all Renaissance clans believe in human rights, there are a few clans that have given up drinking human blood, and drink the blood of animals (Mostly pigs blood) to survive.
Outcasts -
When a vampire refuses to drink the blood of a human and resorts to surviving on animal blood, they are often known as outcasts by other vampires and treated poorly, as a result Vampires who choose to do this normally keep it a secret from their kindred.
Ancients -
Vampires that are over a millennia old are referred to as Ancients, their powers are diverse and on rare cases the most powerful have been able to withstand the powers of fire and sunlight.
---Vampire Facts---
-Vampires have the strength of 10 humans; they can command wolves and bats; they can hypnotize the living and heal even the most grievous wounds. True and false.
The power of a vampire increases with age. Young, newly created vampires are often little more powerful than humans. But as a vampire grows in age and understanding, they learn to use their blood to evoke secret magical powers, which vampires call Disciplines.
The Nocturnal World of the Vampire
Vampires also value power, for its own sake and the security it brings - and vampires find it ridiculously easy to acquire mundane goods, riches and influence. A mesmerizing glance and a few words provide a cunning vampire with access to all the wealth, power and servants he could desire. Some powerful vampires are capable of implanting posthypnotic suggestions or commands in mortals' minds, then causing the mortals to forget the vampire's presence. In this way, vampires can easily acquire legions of unwitting slaves. More than a few "public servants" and corporate barons secretly answer to vampire masters.
Though there are exceptions, vampires tend to remain close to the cities, the wilderness often proves dangerous for vampires. The wilds are the home of the Lupines, the werewolves, who are vampires' ancestral enemies and desire nothing more than to destroy vampires outright.
-Vampires are burned by sunlight. True.
Vampires must avoid the sun or die, though a few can bear sunlight's touch for a very short period of time. Vampires are nocturnal creatures, and most find it extremely difficult to remain awake during the day, even within sheltered areas.
-Vampires are repulsed by garlic and running water. False. These are myths and nothing more.
-Vampires are repulsed by crosses and other holy symbols. This is generally false. However, if the wielder of the symbol has great faith in the power it represents, a vampire may suffer ill effects from the brandishing of the symbol. If in the house of god and the Vampire touches the holy water or cross it will cause sever burns. Although a symbol shown with little or no faith may not harm the vampire, if they touch it, then their true appearance will emerge unwillingly.
------------------
If you choose to join as a vampire, you are still permitted to join any team you want, you're not restricted to vampire groups. However consider the strengths and weaknesses of your character, Vampire's are a hard character to obtain a balance with powers, being so hard to hurt, plus having access to untold powers can make them a burden to the RPing community.
Make sure to keep your powers simple, clear and to the point.
You are not permitted to embrace (transform) other players into Vampires without their consent. There is a section in the RPG called OOC Requests, in there you'll find a forum called "Regarding Vampires" look threw there to see if someone has posted requesting to be turned into a vampire. Or you can post asking if anyone wants to be turned into one.
PLEASE NOTE:
ALL CHARACTERS ARE ABLE TO RETURN TO THEIR NON-VAMPIRE STATE IF THEY HAVE A CHANGE OF HEART.
This is done in character and will not be done instantly, but over a short period of time.
Also, vampires are NOT all going to have souls, but that doesn't mean they can't be good, it just means they aren't prone to a whole variety of emotion or have much of a conscious. They are still aware of what's right and wrong, and can make their own judgements.
