Waste of Time Releases
I don't like live albums for the most part, and especially for most World Serpent artists (Coil are the exception), so I would say to steer clear of any Current93 live albums. The best live albums I've heard still sound like @#%$ to me. A lot of C93's waste-of-time albums and EPs are live stuff - As The World Disappears, Looney Runes, Live at Bar Maldorer, All Dolled Up Like Christ, etc. etc. - and for my money, they can skipped completely.
@#%$ tracking down all of the early cassettes and 7"s and EP releases. I can't think of a better way to waste your time and money. The best stuff is definitely on the albums, and not on the LashTal 12" that you will pay $300 for E-bay.
The Crowleymass 12"/CDS has a so-so bonus track called "I Arise", but it ain't worth the money.
Christ and the Pale Queens Mighty in Sorrow has its moments, but is mostly pretty tepid. This one can sometimes be found pretty cheap used sometimes, if you really get the urge.
Swastikas for Noddy/Goddy was totally trumped by Crooked Crosses, so I would say skip it.
Horse EP is bullshit. Psychos only need apply. Same for Hitler as Kalki EP - the best version of that song is on TPM the album proper.
If you really like All The Pretty Little Horsies, you might want to consider the prologue and epilogue EPs - Where the Long Shadows Fall and The Starres are Marching Sadly Home. Of these, Starres is definitely superior. Long Shadows is lame and repetitive.
In a Foreign Land and Faust are pretty average ambient releases that accompany a story booklet. Don't waste your time unless that really sounds cool to you. The Horse Hospital release is also boring ambient stuff.
The Great in the Small is one of the most evil jokes Tibet has ever played on his public. What a disgusting waste of time and money. It's every album multitracked to play all at once. It's an incredibly annoying clamor that you will never play past the five minute mark, unless you are insane.
The Seahorse Rears to Oblivion is only one song in three different versions. It's not that great a song. A Little Menstrual Night Music is a pointless remix of a great old noisescape album. Skip.
I will make another topic for Tibet/Stapleton collabs and other releases on Durtro. Comments are welcome.
As for C93 live, I really really like As The World Disappears.
It also has tracks that are not on the main albums.
Live in Frankfurt with DIJ has some tracks with that nice pub feel and sound .
Happy Birthday is a favourite track of mine, which has been not badly done live.(again is not on a main album), the Emblems/12" version seems a bit flat.
I personally disagree about the Swastika's / Crooked Crosses. Stapeltons rehash didn't do it for me.
Call me a psycho but I really like Horsey. Admittedly it's not like other C93 stuff.
I liked the Horse Hospital CDs. Maybe going to the exhibition helped (they constantly played the CDs there). In fact I prefer the HH NWW cd to the Salt Marie Celeste album.
In A Foreign Land and Faust I think work well.
Chirst and the Pale Queens can be covered with CFVF.
Seahorse isn't too good. I needn't bother commenting on the Great and the Small!
Re: Waste of Time Releases
The Great In The Small is absolutely, without question, the most worthless crap ever recorded, next to the "special" In Menstrual Night" cd's for the San Francisco shows last year. UGH!
**well why don't I just kick my legs back and pollute my britches with delight?**
the bastard king
can't but dis-agree on a few points :
* {As the World Disappears...} is quite melancholy and lovely, plus this stands as a hy-sterical document given that this was thee first performance with michael $more (and one can already foresee his unique way of playing)
* {Faust} deserves being in any collection for thee simple fact that it is accompanied by this brilliant Count Stenbock novella - e don't actually listen to thee record, but felt a great connection with Stenbock when e discovered this record (so much so that e dedicated my master's degree essay to His works)
* {Horsey} 's studio songs (esp. "death of the corn" & thee Comus cover) are neurotically gigantic
Live album
For live album As the world Disappears is a best.
But the two version of Imperium V from Hitler as kalki are so beautiful.
I love the last show of Lisbon too.
Oh, by the way, prices are not too expensive that you said on ebay. You can have some good stuff for good prices. I buy all vinyls here now with good condition.
Re: Live album
I am also a fan of the live recordings. Only on Hitler as Kalki is the sound really lacking. Most of the music means enough to me that I like to hear different interpretations of it played live.
I am very much looking forward to hearing Halo, as some of the playlist looks similar to the SF show.

I really enjoy both Faust and a Little Menstrual Night Music- Faust is VERY creepy-
the great in the small just didn't work out very well I agree- but is COULD have if Stapleton was a little more thoughtful and selective of what tracks where woven together where- and a larger palette of effects could have been employeed to squeeze the layers of cacophony into more compelling drone-shapes- but I suspect that Tibet desired a pure expression of his vision of "piling on top on top" to be more important than the aesthetic result-
Re: (@_@)
I agree with you on Faust- I love it, it's perfect to read the booklet to, just like In A Foreign Town..., perfect!
Someone once said A Special Plan For This World was horrible, and I HIGHLY disagree- I think it's incredible, but really, when all is said and done, it really just comes down to personal taste.
Funny how some agree on one thing, yet completely disagree on another- that's great, as we're all individuals and shows we aren't just buying/liking anything/everything any of these bands (or others) put out JUST because of who they are.
