Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
Hello! My name is Mary, but that is always taken on any message board, so I changed it to Merry! We have been tent-campers for years (and loved it!) but decided last year to make the leap to a TT. After months of searching, our local dealer showed us a new line just in, the Pilgrim International Open Road. It was love at first sight! We finally decided on the 298RLS TT.
I have 3 children, 13, 16, & 19, and we are really looking forward to camping this year! My husband will join us as his schedule allows.
We expect to have many wonderful years of camping in our new Open Road.
Hello My name is Dan from Oxford MIchigan, we have just traded our 28 foot Siera TT for a new Open Road 316RLS 5'er. It should be in any day know and I can't wait. We started out camping with a popup, up graded to the TT in 99, and know to the Open Road 5'er. We went too 3 RV shows this year and we all most ready to buy a Montana when the owner of A&S RV for some reason show us the Open Road. We were sold right there and then we told him to tear up the paper work on the Montana and let's order the Open Road.

We are Bjorn & Laurie from the foothills of Alberta, about one hour west of Calgary.
Believe it or not we are new to TTing and waiting for our #321RBHS TT, early May completion. We also looked for trailers from last August and saw many, and several we thought where the best and ideal for us. But circumstances delayed us until Feb this year and we had picked a Wildcat product with the bath by the front bedroom. There were a few things not perfect but best overall, until we came upon the Open Road product. It was oooohhh at first sight, I really liked the Torsion bar suspension, Fiberglass exteriors, Windows and visible upgrades. Laurie liked the layout, kitchen quality, decor and the bunkhouse for our girls.
Now the unit we thought we were buying was called a 304RBHS, but they found out they had overlooked a couple of details and thereby stretched it a bit to include a pantry and a front closet as well as other small things.
Yes we are really looking forward to do this. Our two little girls are nearly 4 and just over one.
We live near many great CGs and will try to learn nearby and not travel too far at this stage.

Hi -
I'm Cookie from NC. The other half is Dave. We don't have an Open Road yet, but we're considering the 360RKDS 5th wheel. We saw one a couple of weeks ago and were able to talk the dealer down quite a bit by printing out the webpage which gives the LA dealer's price for the same model. The NC dealer seemed astounded that the LA dealer could sell it at that price - said it was less than he had to pay for it himself. As a matter of fact, he was so upset that he called Pilgrim to find out how the LA dealer was getting this model so much cheaper than he was. Pilgrim told him (he said) that the LA dealer had been sent some of the earlier models - leftovers so to speak. He also said that it cost him about $800 to prep one at $50/hr labor - over and above his cost - and he suspected the LA dealer wasn't prepping them - or not prepping them well. That certainly seems to agree with what I've read on this forum since the Open Road with the most problems seems to have come from that LA dealer. But from the number of problems - and some sound like serious structural problems that would take a lot more than prepping to correct - it makes me wonder just how well built these units are when they come from the factory. Since we're considering the very same model that Larryone has, I am concerned that perhaps this particular model may not be as structurally sound as some of the other models.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and the impressions that the first buyers get - and relay to other prospective buyers like me - will very likely make or break Pilgrim. Surely they realize this and will try their best to satisfy buyers who have problems with their units - if they want to stay in business. I think we will all be interested in learning how quickly and effectively Larryone's problems are resolved.
Pilgrim would do well to monitor this forum as well as the Open Roads forum and take whatever steps are necessary to make sure that all of their first customers are as pleased as Merry. On the surface, the Open Road certainly appears to be a well-thought-out and well-made unit. But sometimes it's what's below the surface that is even more important.
Does anyone else have the 360RKDS? How well are others holding up? Is it just Larryone's or do the problems tend to appear in all of this model?
So far I haven't seen any complaints about slides. Does that mean that everyone is satisfied with them? The layout for the 360RKDS would require that you run the slides out in order to get around, so that would certainly be important to us.

Howdy all from Texas!
I am Brenda and the other happy camper half is Bill. We live in Fort Worth, Texas. We just traded in our pull behind for a new 316rls Open Road Fifth Wheel and absolutely love it!! We are selling our house and getting ready to go full time if we can hold out for the amount of time I have left to retire!!! We have had a few problems with the Open Road that I will address in another forum. Any new full-timers out there? We are nervous about it but looking forward to it at the same time. Nice to meet everyone!

Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
Hello all. We are J(that's right just the letter J) and Carol. We have ordered a 360RKDS-5 and didn't expect delivery until July 15 and was called yesterday that it should be delivered to the dealer the end of this week. Early and that changes a few schedules. I know when we get it, we will want to be at the lake camping. However we are going to have awnings and a sattelite installed some that will stall a little until I get to start hauling all the RV "stuff" in. We traded a '85 Alpha, unloaded that and have it all over the house. We will be living in the Open Road fulltime after September. We are selling the house and all things. Then going to Yuma (the long way there) and staying no later than May 2004, then on our merry way north somewhere cool. Will probably do some workampering along the way. I ordered the new color blue, will let you know how it looks and performs.
Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
Hello, we just purchased a 360rkds-5 today after a long period of research into many brands. We could not believe the features at the price. We negotiated a very good price and a few extras. We plan to keep it stationary for a couple of years and use it as a second home before hiting the road for extended periods. We have been RVing for some time in trailers and our class b van. In doing our research, we found the Open Road to have many standard features that made it head and shoulders above many comparable brands.
My name in Brian Scheller and I purchased an Open Roads 369RBHS fifth wheel at the end of July. This was an upgrade from our Outback 25-RSS. So far we have been really happen with our new trailer with only a couple of minor issues.

Re: Hello
Welcome Brian!
Because we 'moved up' from tent camping, we had never owned a TT before and I have a question for you. We haven't had any problems at all with our Open Road, and I was wondering if this was normal. Did you have a lot of little problems with your previous TT? I think ours is extremely well built but I don't really have anything to compare it too, except the ones we looked at while shopping.
Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
Hi J & Carol,
My name is Karen. My husband , Carl & I were full timers til a couple of years ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
We are getting ready to purchase a 360 rkds. You didn't say where you were from, but stated you planned to go to yuma. I was wondering where you purchased your trailer. There don't seem to be many dealers. If you feel inclined to share, I'd be interested in what you had to pay. We haven't started price shopping yet.
We looked at an early 2003. It had a major design flaw--couldn't hang a standard size hanger in the bedroom closet! Pilgrim assures me they've solved that little glitch. As soon as we are able to see a 2004, we'll probably start negotiating.
Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself! We were fulltimers for at least 7 years. If you need any advice, etc., feel free to ask. We'd love to help.
Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
We are the Soileaus (pronounced swallow), Steve and Cynthia from Scott, Louisiana. Haven't done any real camping since the early 80's when our children were small. Bought a new truck back in June, to go hunting and fishing or so were my plans, however Cynthia casually asked why don't we get a camper. Since I no longer have an excuse we began shopping and have ordered a 357 RLDS-5. It is supposed to be in around Nov. 6th. We are getting pretty excited. Glad to find this forum on the Open Road product. Looking forward to some great times camping and some informative reading on the board.
Thanks

Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
We are now in Yuma a month. Our 360 traveled like a dream. We purchased the 5th wheel in Topeka Ks at RV Anderson . They were great to deal with and we took it back for a few warranty fixes before we took off and no problem with them fixing everything. All requests were minor. Ours is a 2004 and the hanger problem is still there. Have to use juvenile size, but have adjusted. We are really very comfortable in the home. Some days were over 100 and now the nights are getting down to where we need the furnace. And it all works great. Any other questions please respond. J and Carol
Re: Welcome to New Users! Tell Us About Yourself!
We are Ginni and Al Kester. We are fulltimers. We purchased our 360RKDS from Hart RV in Elkhart Indiana. It is an early production model so it had a few problems that were very quickly taken care of at the factory. The front closet problem is one that we all have, it looks like. That has been the only major dislike that we have had. One caution to all new buyers. Be sure to check the lugnuts on the rig just as the instructions the sticker on the fender suggests. On our walk through at delivery our dealer did mention the lug nuts so I didn't check mine. On my way home I lost a wheel on the driver side. I was on US 31 expressway in downtown Muskegon Michigan in the middle of five o'clock traffic. Pulled over but could do nothing there so continued to creep ahead to the next exit ramp on three wheels. Moved about a block and the other wheel came off on the same side. Make a long story short the factory repaired all damage to our complete satisfaction. We are very pleased with our unit and would bye another.
