Word Searches and...KEMO? Maybe...
Something kinda strange happened today that I thought might be interesting to share...or at least I thought it was strange...we were doing this word find in one of my classes and I found one that got in there by surprise, Kemo! LOL!!! What surprises me most though, is that I didn't see that sooner, it was right there in plain view, not diagonally or anything like that...
Yes I know the wolf's name is NOT Kemo but I still think it's funny that the name got in there! I couldn't find any other names from Balto in there, though(and I'll be double-checking that!). LOL maybe whoever created that word search liked the White Wolf too...

Re: Word Searches and...KEMO? Maybe...
*LOL*! That was Balto related, so it does count in this forum. ;-) That's funny! You never know how many Balto fans are secretly hiding out making wordsearches... ¬_¬ Even if that name was not in plain view, I'll bet that either of us would have picked it out right away anyhow...
Double-check for those Balto names! Or you could edit it yourself out of pure amusement and scare the teacher. ;-)
Re: Word Searches and...KEMO? Maybe...
Heh...know what's funny about that? That's the same teacher who likes Balto!! (Too much irony here...) Well I discovered that part of Kemo was another word, but oh well...it's still cool. LOL! Still didn't find any other Balto names, but I did circle the place where I found Kemo. ;-)

Re: Word Searches etc.
WOW! You've actually found a teacher that like Balto!? I've asked EVERYONE at my school and none of them have even heard of Balto (except one, but she's a student and doesn't have a Yahoo ID ), my teachers talk about me in the staff room too. They say how they can never tell what I'm about to ask them. :-| Weird.
BTW, I'll remember to check for Balto stuff next time I see a word search.

Re: Word Searches etc.
That is strange! I have not asked anyone in my school if they have heard of Balto; they are all the type that would view it as a "dumb kid's movie". However, I do doodle Balto on chalkboards and notepaper, and the occasional person will look and say "Hey, isn't that dog from a movie?". One of my friends did exclaim "Hey! It's Balto!" and I nodded, but they don't appreciate the movie like I do. :-)
My teachers will talk about me behind my back, too, which makes me paranoid. I'm pretty sure it's mostly good things, though...

Teacher talking about you behind your back
WOW! You are so lucky (and skilled), to have people recognise Balto from your drawings! Ans the techers talk about you behind your back? MINE DO THAT TOO!!
They say how erratic I am and they can never predict what I'm about to say or ask (or do), in and out of lessons. They probably comment on me asking them about Balto and werewolves too, but that's not confirmed. I think I unnerve most teachers, can't imagine why.
Er, got to include something Balto-ey to make this valid. Um, I think that Balto should be bigger, yeah, and more muscley.
Re: The White Wolf
Oh, I've got a good one. Last year someone pointed out from one of my drawings that it was Balto, and someone was trying to tell which part of the movie the scene was from. (It was a Balto howling pic) One of my classmates who saw it said, "Is that when Balto is searching for the team?" I said, "No, after," and he said, "Oh! After that black dog X'd the trees..." The person sitting next to me: "And then that white dog howled to him!" (I had to correct her and say it was a wolf...) How's that for an argument!? LOL!!! "White dog..." And then there's the girl who's been to Central Park repeatedly, as well as having seen the movie, and doesn't remember what the Balto statue looks like. *Faints*
Strange, I've never noticed anyone talking about me behind my back...but if they were I don't think it'd bother me much, nothing really does for long. LOL!

Er, nothing mush really, just replying to be nice
Whaaah, I can't draw so people can't do that with me. It's a real testament to your talent that people can recognise which scene it's from (even on third guess it's still pretty good ).
And how can someone who seen the film more than once AND been to Central Park forget what the statue looks like?? I haven't been to Central Park and I reckon I'd be able to pick it out from a crowd. LOL!!
Re: Er, nothing mush really, just replying to be nice
"Nothing mush"? LOL! Yeah I can't believe she can't remember either, she says its been a long time since she's seen it(I think she meant both the movie and the statue, lol), but STILL, how could you forget?? I'd probably remember something like seeing the Balto statue for the rest of my life!! ;-) I ALSO think it'd be easy to pick out in a crowd LOL, although I haven't seen it(yet)!
*Grin* I'm probably lucky they remembered that much of the movie to start! More people here than I'd realized before have seen Balto, but as Snow Wolf said, none of them have really appreciated it in the way that I and the other Balto fanatics here have come to. We're on two different levels...it'd be hard to talk to them about Balto...

White dog! *laughs* The mystic samoyed approaches Balto... at least it wasn't a dingo.
How can she forget what the Balto statue looks like? *Gasp* All I had to do was see it once in the movie, and then I remembered it. ;-) That's strange...did you give her a really funny look? *lol*
That's true; I would feel strange trying to discuss Balto with anyone else, because I would just get so much more into it than they would ever care to discuss! Perhaps I could scare someone with that...

Do registered users have to type in the subject?
Yeah, I've got people worried about me because I talk about Balto and werewolves and stuff in the middle of the lesson. ) I don't mind though, MIG. BTW if you didn't know, MIG means Mad Insane Giggle.
I enjoy talking about Balto, but I think that others who aren't big fans would just make short comments and gruff agreements and things, but not ask to stop the conversation out of politeness.
ive not posted here before, but i thought i would lol...when i first started college, the first assignment we had to do was about the work placement...of course i was counting the huskies as it, so i wrote about hte history of the siberian...that includes balto. one of the girls was reading it and sai "oh i think i saw some movie about a dog that goes all these miles to rescue these sick children". then the whole table started saying yeah i saw that...non could remember the name...i said look at the top of the page...the title was "the true story of BALTO" lmao...later one of them asked me to draw them a picture...any picture so naturally i drew balto. she loved it and took it home lol.

Nice one AC
Hello, AC. Haven't seen you around here before, don't go away though, keep checking back and posting stuff. I'm not suprised that she kept your picture, you are a good artist.
OK, er, someone start a talk or something. I'm useless at beginning discussions. But I like joining in on them.
More relations to Balto
What picture did you draw from, Acanis? (out of curiousity) None of them could remember the name and it was right there? LOL! Still better than "White dog"!
LOL, I can compare just about anything to Balto, but this year there have been a few surprisingly ironic cases that relate to themes in the movie in some way. One was in Spanish class, we were reading a story which involved the symbolism of a white balloon that appeared to someone, and of course the translation was "globo blanco." So naturally I kept thinking "lobo blanco", and I was thinking about that whenever we were discussing the story. One day I got so lost in thought over how cool that was that when the class ended, I started walking down the hall the wrong way. LOL!!!
Another was more recent, we were(are still, actually) presented with segregation and racial prejudice in a story we're reading for another class...guess why that caught my interest...yes, because I was thinking about how Balto was treated because of his half-wolf heritage. (I still don't understand why that's even an issue, why should one be valued or devalued based on their heritage?...The concept behind this completely escapes me...)
Re: More relations to Balto
"The symbolism of a white balloon that appeared to someone"?
Balto, body shivering and eyes full of tears, lifted his head to the wind and glanced up...in front of him stood the ghostly figure of a round circus balloon, whose beautiful white color blended in with the snowstorm behind it.
*Grin* I'm sorry, I had to...that sentence struck me as humorous! You are lucky, you can make Spanish a fun class by relating it to Balto! My academic classes are no fun unless I can sneak in a doodle of a wolf or a dog during class. I never understood your point in the movie, either, why would Balto be treated badly because of his heritage? He's twice as fast as Steele...he doesn't have to fetch his master's slippers either. ;-)

It shoulda been a blimp!
LOL!! That wasn't supposed to be funny...I should give you the actual passage of the story so you don't think I'm insane. I could have gone on to explain WHY the balloon was involved but that wasn't the point I was trying to make! It should've been a blimp, in that case I would have been laughing my head off. I saw a white blimp once, I tried to chase it all over town...ok enough about THAT...
Er, he WAS treated badly because of his heritage! My point is not that Balto WOULD be treated badly, but that he HAD BEEN treated badly, like this:
"He's part wolf, he might turn on me."
"I'm sorry, Balto. Balto the half-breed."
"I can't use 'em now that that WILD ANIMAL's touched 'em."
"He might bite ya honey, he's part wolf."
(The furry book of Balto quotes is back in action...)
I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make here...as he was most certainly ridiculed because of this.
RE: More relations to Balto
well when i drew a pic, i didnt actually draw from any scene, just drew balto how he was in my mind. i do that a lot at home...the pics u see, i like to draw from the film so u can tell where they are from.
of course the assignment had pics of the real balto...i got a distinction for that lol...would u expect anything else? i think if i hadnt got that, id have to kill myself lmao. (if u use different marking systems, a distinction is the same as an A grade)...
and lol, u tell a husky to fetch ur slippers, it will flip u off and tell u its busy....

Nearly falling off of my chair in laughter
LMAO!!! White, you nearly killed me a minute ago. LOL!! ) Oh dear, my chest. A white balloon? Trust Spanish people to see a white balloon as a spiritual guide. And yeah, It should have been a blimp, which was staked to the ground with a long chain. And then another cackle-attack took hold of me as I read bracketed end-note.
And AC, nice one about the distinction, I'm sure it was well-deserved.
And I can see why someone might be discriminated against because of there heritage or ancestry, but I completely disagree with it. Someone should not be judged prematurely on assumptions and racial steryotypes.
Another story for comparison...
LOL! I found another coincidence to the story of Balto...this time from a movie in math class. (YES, we were watching a movie in math!) Seems like I just keep finding these comparisons...
Ok, well first of all the movie opened with an AP-calculus teacher. His name was Jaime but everyone called him Kemo. LOL!!!!! He was directed to teach a class of students that was having trouble with math. He had to start from the bottom and teach them algebra....but he wouldn't have enough time to teach them calculus by the end of the year. So he made a decision to keep them in summer school to learn it. (Weren't they just THRILLED...LOL!) It seemed very doubtful they would be able to get the hang of it well enough, but they did. They also formed a bond with their teacher, who unselfishly would give up his free time for the better of the students(familiar theme?). Even when he had a heart attack, he got out of the hospital early and went back to his class to keep teaching them. ("Hey Kemo, shouldn't you be resting?" --"No, I should be here with all of you!")
However, his efforts seemed useless when his class took the test and was accused of cheating b/c every test had the same answers wrong. Despite Kemo's arguing that his class didn't cheat, the students had to re-take the test. He reviewed with them one last time, and the test results found that every one of his students had passed, this time with varying scores so cheating was out of the question. You've got to admire the Balto-related themes of unselfish diligence and determination, even when things looked hopeless...
LOL sorry for the long post, but I thought it'd be interesting to mention this movie since it and Balto share several similar themes...and of course, the teacher's nickname of Kemo! Bet you didn't think that movies about math could possibly be interesting...I sure didn't think so before I saw this one!

Nice! I haven't seen that film, and I probably never will (damn ). Can you remember the title? We never get to watch ANY films in ANY lessons. (
Ahw, don't walk away like that, Blizzard. *Steers Blizzard back to the pack by the shoulders* No-one's gonna be nasty to you here. Hey, if you give me the names and addresses of the people/animals that put you down I'll pass them on to... a friend. ) LOL!! )
