Work Weekend Write-up and pics- Dec 12-15, 2003
This weekend was dedicated to removing the old Jeep Cherokee that was at the top of the hill on Dutch John. Someone back in April or May rolled the Jeep and left it there. The Jeep was dragged to the top of the hill and in turn got torn into more pieces. The Jeep was pillaged of anything and everything valuable and its core was left to rot. This looked terrrible and was not good for the environment or the view.
Staying Friday night was Mark, Beth and myself. It was pretty chilly but under Mark's tarp house (labeled the hacienda) it wasn't too bad.
Saturday morning Darrell and Karen and their daughter Haley showed up to help us. Don Custer and his wife came to the hacienda also, but we hadn't gotten together to get out on the trail yet.
We finally caught up with Leigh, Bruce, Janet and the rest of the group organized and got out to head up to Dutch John. The original plan was to cut up the whole truck (or what was left of it) and put the parts in the back of the trucks to haul out of there. Once we got there it was decided that we should just cut the doors and roof off and we could drag the frame and body tub out. So thats what we did. As all of us were watching for sparks and fire Don cut off just what we needed and then we loaded up the parts and headed out. Thanks to Haley and some of his Carolina Jeepster friends who walked up the hill to help us with some of the loading of the Jeep. This went very smoothly and flawlessly because of the great teamwork that was showed. We pulled all the stuff out to the double pay station and the owner of the Jeep will be billed for the removal of the rest of it.
We headed back to camp and I was moving our tent out of the hacienda. I was concerned with the tarp house falling on our tent if rain/ ice etc. collected on the roof. I couldn't stake my tent down because we were on the asphalt. Bruce, Janet, Mark, Darrell and Karen all went riding while Beth and I stayed at our campsite while I moved my tent.
Saturday night they were calling for ice and snow/ sleep mixture to come in. So when they got back from riding Mark packed up to head home for better weather under his roof and Darrell and Karen and Haley headed home because Karen was getting over being sick. So that just left Beth and I.
Sunday we didn't do much because it was cold and rainy. My 4wd was out and we didn't want to venture out in the slick Uwharrie mud with one truck and one with only 2wd so we went into Asheboro and did some Christmas shopping.
Monday we went out on wolfs den and slab pile but had to retreat because I had to get home and we weren't making very good progress with Beth's baloney skins and my 2wd.
Overall we got a lot done and had a good time...
Thanks to all who came out and helped us.
