Work Weekend at Uwharrie National Forest - April 25-27, 2003
It was a good time at work weekend this past weekend. We got quite a bit done however we did not get all done that we had planned to do however we did other items that was not on the to do list that was politely asked of us by the Forest Service.
- Hauled two loads of rock to a really big hole on Falls Dam.
- Winched over log bridges at creek crossing.

Bridge that was winched over - Dutch John (Our adopted trail)

'Da Beast' winching over log bridge.

Loading rock into trailer for large hole on the Falls dam.

Navigating trail with trailer load of rock and lots of mud.

Work Weekend Wrap Up.... (Apr. 26-27th)

Had a great time at uwharrie this past weekend. Got to see some old faces and a couple new ones. The rain gave way to a few complications and minor set backs. We didnt cut the dead trees because it was aggrevatingly wet, didnt have the auger, but we did get to fill a big hole with rocks and some of the crew that stayed later today moved the bridges back on Dutch Jon, also filled my truck with mud inside, lol.
i learned quite a bit on the trails this weekend mainly because i havent been exposed to the conditions of trail riding we encountered. There was nothing but slick clay and wet rocks. in short, it was a great learning experience for me. And of course i had to be towing the trailer up the trails in the slick stuff. made it even more fun, lol...Thanks to the guys who helped me out in the tight situations and didnt get pissed or aggrevated at me. cant wait to go back.
hope everyone had a safe trip home. btw jon... did ya get them to flash ya??? they were pretty hot!! i woulda said... i mean hollered somethin at em but kristen might not like that.. lol.

I had a great time. I am discouraged that we didn't get out on the trails today before I needed to head back to Richmond. I was looking forward to winching those bridges.
I enjoyed the trails wet but I think I enjoy them better when they are dry. I am not a huge fan of the slippery mud on some of those inclines. A lot of Uwharrie is challenging enough without the mud and slick conditions.
Austin, I tried several times and just got the smile, laugh and head shake "NO!" a few times. Yes they were good looking. Ha ha.

We had a change in plans between the rain and some un-expected problem which arose... We filled a major hole with rock on Falls Dam trail (thier backhoe was down for repairs and the need was there) and we did some of the bridging work while figuring out a cure for some others...
