a quiet walk around the city (open)
A quiet walk around the city, or at least that’s what Percy was hoping for… since he’d arrived in this strange time the young inventor had remained cooped up in the hotel, coming out only occasionally at night on patrol with William, or to visit the library for research, so a nice walk around to get his bearings seemed a good idea to him. That and he may be able to find some more parts of his time machine lying in the road where he arrived, though that was a while ago now and he felt sure that the local authorities would probably have cleared it all up by now.

Wandering around the city he could not help but notice the strange looks he was getting from passers by, but that was not surprising as he had not managed to obtain anything new to wear since his arrival… and was consequently wearing clothes that went out of date at the turn of the 19th century, even his long brown overcoat could not conceal this fact. But he was not bothered by this, and was in fact equally bemused by what everyone else was wearing, especially the women, they wore a lot less garments in this time… something that made him a little embarrassed.

He’d been wandering for a few hours now, his keen mind recording everything of interest that he had noticed on the way so he could come back later, museums, café’s and other trivial buildings that looked of interest. As he slowly plodded along the street listening to the padding of his feet on the ground and trying to decipher in his mind why his latest invention was not working as it should be he could not help but marvel at the cars driving past. He had taken the liberty of looking over a few plans for their engines whilst he’d been bored a while ago… they were so complex, but if you broke them down into their components it was quite easy to see how it all worked.

It was not just that which intrigued the inventor, it was a surprise to him that so many people could live in one place, the streets were so full compared to London in his time. It was overwhelming in the daylight, the towering buildings, the people, the shops… everything here seemed to be on such a large scale and he wanted to see it all, but time was running short as it would be dark in a few hours time, and he had to walk back all the way he had come.

With a sigh at the thought of all the things he could still find out if he carried on he stopped walking, nearly making a man behind bump into him “hey, watch it buddy” the man’s tone was not an angry one, more surprised “I’m so sorry sir..” Percy apologised quickly so as not to cause offence “…have a good day”. Nervously dusting the front of his shirt he looked around, noticing a small shiny object lying at the side of the road, he knew he recognised this area, it was where he had arrived… in the middle of that road is where his time machine had been hit by a truck.

Rushing to the side of the road he bent down carefully, pushing his overcoat behind him so as not to let it flap into the road. He reached out and picked the object up, it was one of the dials from inside the machine, and though a little battered and scratched it seemed to be intact. Standing quickly he removed his glasses and hovered them closer to the dial to act as a temporary magnifying glass, it appeared to be one of the many date control dials… interesting. Replacing his glasses he thrust the dial into his pocket, it could help him decipher what went wrong.

The young inventor was pleased with the days findings, a piece of his machine, and he’d seen several interesting buildings, all that was needed now to make it perfect would be to meet someone new… not that that was likely to happen as he was not the best at talking to people, he tended to run out of things to say quite quickly and ended up boring them with blabber about scientific things.

a quiet walk around the city (open)
((Okey, Tessa's going to show up in this thread.. It'll just be taking place like three or so days before she ends up at the institute >^.^<))

Tessa stepped out of the jewlery store, adjusting her new belly-bracelt around her waist when she just happened to glance up to see a guy dressed like he was from like the 1800's or something. That didn't really grab as much attention as the bike that was racing towards him though, a chinese delivery person talkin gon the cellphone and not paying much attention to where he was going, him assuming that the people would just get out of his way.

Seeing that the other guy, the man who had just picked up someting from the side of the road, didn't seem to see the delivery man coming, Tessa made a quick dash to intercept the two before there would be a collision. As she darted in front of the path of the bike, she used her ability to mute the celly the man was on, causing him to look at where he was going for once and for him to skid to a hault about a foot from hitting her.

Tessa had no idea of what the guy was yelling at her but judging by his tone it was something very rude in manderin. Just his whole attitude ticked her off, causing her to be rude right on back.

"Oh 'shing shing shang shang' yourself!" She snapped. "Whatch where you're going! You could have just ran over this guy! I know you have a time limit and all but if you were so worried about that, you wouldn't be gabbing away and not paying attention to the sidewalk, now would you?" She stated, placing her hands on her hips.

The guy started yelling at her and flashed her a rude gesture which caused her to snap at him again. "Oh you only wish you could, buddy." She stated, her eyes darkening as she narrowed them. It was the irish blood in her. It was what gave her the temper that she had. Had the guy not decided to ride off with only a few muttered comments, it would have possably gotten a bit tense.

"Ugh, I don't know what's with some people these days." She commented, rollin gher eyes before she turned to face the other guy.

She adjusted herher shirt, tugging it down to right above her navel, it having slid up a little from her running earlier then she looked up from her shirt and to the guy. Looking over his outfit some she flashed a smile.

"You must be on your way to Kaleb's party down the block. Hmm. He told me that it was going to be a way back theme but I didn't think it was going ot be waaaaaaay back. I was thining it was going to be like the 60's or something. Well, I'm not required to wear a costume anyway so it's still dandy." She stated, the flush in her cheeks from her earlier irritation fading and her eyes lightening again.

"Oh, I should introduce myself, shouldn't I?" She stated with a chuckle. "I'm Tessa, I'm going to be the DJ for the night. Are you one of Kaleb's friends or are you a walk-in? I heard it was an open house party."

Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
((tis cool , u can appear here if u like, but i warn you, i'm very tired at the moment and its past midnight so this post may not be that good))

Looking up from his pocket he was just in time to see someone rush between him… and a now skidding bike “Oh my goodness” it was all he could manage to say, the shock of nearly being run over again.. In the same place no less, was more than he could handle at the moment. Whilst the biker and girl exchanged a few angry words he marvelled at the fact that everyone in this time seemed able to summon a variety of insults at any given time as if were natural conversation.

"Ugh, I don't know what's with some people these days." Percy seemed to have returned to normal from the initial shock “I know exactly what you mean” the inventor sighed looking up the road after the bike, in his time people had manners, if he’d been the biker he would have still been apologising not riding off shouting obscenities, it was unbelievable how people acted as if they had never heard of manners.

"You must be on your way to Kaleb's party down the block. Hmm. He told me that it was going to be a way back theme but I didn't think it was going ot be waaaaaaay back. I was thining it was going to be like the 60's or something. Well, I'm not required to wear a costume anyway so it's still dandy."

“oh…” the surprise at being spoken to was evident in his voice “oh sorry, no I.. this is all I have..” he looked down himself as he spoke, forgetting about the time difference he couldn’t see anything wrong with what he was wearing, his housekeeper said it was the height of fashion.. “I mean… it’s the only costume I have at the moment and I am not that good at shopping, I used to leave that to my old housekeeper” he corrected himself, quickly remembering what william had said about most people not understanding where he was from, though his old English accent didn’t help matters

As she introduced herself he quickly looked her over, trying not to blush and embarrass himself, but it was hard “I’m sorry I forget my manners sometimes.. the name’s Percy” the inventor held out his hand politely, even though most of what she said made little sense to him “I just heard through a friend…” he lied, it was not something he liked to do but it seemed right on this occasion “It sounded like a good place to meet people as i’m new around here…”

he paused quickly, a slightly puzzled expression crossing his face quickly before disappearing “what’s a DJ?” he hadn’t wanted to sound thick and was originally only thinking it, but as usual he couldn’t distinguish between thought and speech and it came out, so often this had happened both in his own time and here… William had made a failed attempt at teaching him to think then speak, but it obviously hadn’t worked. Feeling stupid he adjusted his glasses, something he tended to do a lot when nervous.. usually accompanied by his face turning bright red.

“I know exactly what you mean...oh… oh sorry, no I.. this is all I have..” Tessa rose a brow at him and the way he seemed so surprised about her talking to him. But then again, a lot of people in the city didn't strike up a conversation with someone they hadn't met before. Tessa was just the type to do that though, her job making her even mor of a social butterfly.

“I mean… it’s the only costume I have at the moment and I am not that good at shopping, I used to leave that to my old housekeeper” The guy continued. Housekeeper... So that meant that there was a chance he was one of thoe rich buddies of Kaleb's. If that was it then there was also a chance that the earlier reaction of surprise she had seen from him could really have been him just not expecting a lower class person to talk to him like another person at their level.... Before she let herself get irritated over that, she waited though. She wouldn't bite his head off without a good reason.

“I’m sorry I forget my manners sometimes.. the name’s Percy." As he extended his hand she took it in a friendly handshake and smiled at him. “I just heard through a friend… It sounded like a good place to meet people as i’m new around here… what’s a DJ?”

Tessa gave a little chuckle which was followed by a grin from the little joke at the end of his statement. "Oh, the manners thing is just fine. Most people in New York don't have any to begin with." She commented, shaking her head a little. "You're looking to meet people huh? Well, you'll meet plenty of them at the party." She gave a little chuckle at the DJ comment again then tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"I see you're acting the part too. That's cute... Well, if we head to the party now, we should get there before all the free food's gone. I need to go there to adjust the equipment and make sure they wired everything up right anyway so I could show you there if you're lost." She offered.

Although she still kept the thought open of a chance of him turning out to be one of those snobs, she refrained from treating him like he was a jerk, him seeming to be a nice guy so far. "So what do you say, Percy?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.

"I see you're acting the part too. That's cute... Well, if we head to the party now, we should get there before all the free food's gone. I need to go there to adjust the equipment and make sure they wired everything up right anyway so I could show you there if you're lost."

Equipment, Percy’s eyes lit up a the thought of equipment, now if talking to people was something he was hopeless at technology was something he could do, even though he came from such a long time ago most technology was not in the least bit confusing to him, and he felt sure that this ‘DJ’ equipment would be very interesting indeed.

"So what do you say, Percy?" a cheery smile crossed his features “why thank you… perhaps I could be of some assistance, I’m quite good with machinery” it was true, in the short time that he had been in this time period he had already disassembled one of the hotels computers and put it back together again, not fully understanding the mechanics of it he had read several books about the components, and could already use the machine to some extent.

“Perhaps you can introduce me to a few people” Percy added shyly not really knowing what he would say to these new people, he barely knew what to say now! He shuffled around a little on the spot out of nerves, his heavy leather boots making a little too much noise on the pavement causing him to stop.

Inside he wanted to throttle himself, once more he must be giving the impression of being a total fool, he could see what was going to happen at the party already, he was going to turn up and as soon as he opened his mouth be ridiculed for the rest of its duration, or until he left in shame wishing that he had never turned up or even existed.

“That is…” he added “unless you are too busy, I wouldn’t want to intrude on your work” perhaps it would be better if he didn’t go he thought, save him from embarrassing her for bringing him there… he could always hide in a corner and not talk to anyone, that way they couldn’t make fun of him. The inventor was obsessed by people disliking him, in his time he had become a laughing stock over his theories and inventions, and people tended to ridicule him about his appearance as well, so much so that he had begun to believe that he was some sort of hideous imbecile himself, even though he clearly wasn’t.

Re: Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
“Why thank you… perhaps I could be of some assistance, I’m quite good with machinery” The man stated. Tessa could tell by the look in his eyes and by the way he was practically glowing that he had a passion for the topic he had brought up. A passion for helping with machinery. It was a look she never really caught on herself but something that she had seen whenever her father brought up medical things or whenever her mother brought up singing and dancing. Having seen it so many times, she had grown to learn to spot when a person really loved something.

She envied them a little. She herself never really was so deeply interested in something to where her eyes would acquire that certain sparkle or where she couldn't keep herself from giving a broad smile. Tessa figured she would find her passion one day but with so many different things she had been plunged into, she was just a little scattered, unable to just choose one way to go. Well, so far, she had the most fun when being a DJ.. but it still didn't quite reach the level to where it was like the joy that her mother had with singing and dancing, her father had with being a doctor, or the way this man, Percy seemed to be with mechinery.

“Perhaps you can introduce me to a few people." Percy spoke out shyly. Tessa gave a smile, shy guys were rare these days. Almost as rare as polite ones. But there was that chance still that he was just playing his part. “That is… unless you are too busy, I wouldn’t want to intrude on your work” Tessa decided that he couldn't have come from around there... Or within two of the neighboring states. No one was conciderate within his age group. Guys in his age group didn't cae about what someone else might be doing, only what they wanted themselves.

"Oh yea, I could try introducing you to some people... Not that I really know all of them. I only know Kaleb and that's only because of a party he had gone to like a few months back... As for if you can help me set up, it's only a few wires here and there and a few CD's but sure, you can help me with making sure the set-up's right." She told him. Tessa accepted his help not because she needed it but because he seemed so excited about it. Normally, she wouldn't let anyone who hadn't shown they had the capability to do things right help her but she decided that this time would be alright. If the guy didn't do a good job it wold be no problem because there was plenty of time to work with.

"Eh, I doubt I'll be very busy at all. The guys were supposed to have everything set out and prepped already, I'm just making sure everything's right behind them. Even while I'm doing the DJ thing, I won't be too busy... Although I won't really be able to come out from beind the table until the party's over." She told him.

Re: Re: Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
CD’s, Percy knew what they were as William had explained that already, they were discs containing information, usually music which could be played using a machine that employed laser technology. Up until a few days ago he had no idea what laser technology was, but a trip to the library had sorted that one out, that and him taking apart one of their stereos to see how it worked… it made a lot more sense when he could see it all spread out on a table, how far things had come since his time was amazing.

it seemed they would both be meeting new people tonight, his day had become much better now. She seemed a nice girl, if a little under dressed compared to the women percy was used to, though he had been warned about the women of this time by everyone who knew when he was from, but for a first impression saving him from being run over definately put her in his good books.

"Eh, I doubt I'll be very busy at all. The guys were supposed to have everything set out and prepped already, I'm just making sure everything's right behind them. Even while I'm doing the DJ thing, I won't be too busy... Although I won't really be able to come out from beind the table until the party's over."

So this DJ business meant standing behind a table, he had by now guessed that it was the modern form of having a band playing on a stage in the corner… only instead of a band you had one person changing over disks of music all night. “If you cant come out from the table, how are you supposed to get the free food” he was thinking out loud again, it was a sensible question in his time.. but he guessed it wasn’t nowadays…

“I suppose I will have to wait on you all evening” he joked, correcting the stupid question by making it seem as if he was having a laugh. “we had probably better be moving along if you want to get there in time to set up” he flashed a glance around, trying to guess which direction the party was, and noticing once more the strange looks passers by were giving him “and I think that I have bemused enough people for one day” the inventor missed the fact that he’d nearly admitted to walking around in his ‘costume’ all day.

Percy would have to make sure he noted the way to this party very carefully, as the hotel was quite a walk from where they were now, he hoped that they would be going closer to home. Chances are they weren’t, and he was not overly thrilled by having to walk through the city for a couple of hours in the dark unarmed... he knew what stalked the streets at night, though he could probably get in contact with William using a telephone, and then the souled vampire may be able to meet him for some of the way.

“If you cant come out from the table, how are you supposed to get the free food...I suppose I will have to wait on you all evening." He joked lightly. "we had probably better be moving along if you want to get there in time to set up... and I think that I have bemused enough people for one day” He commented. Tessa looked around at the people who were giving Percy sideways stares and then made a gesture as if waving them off.

"Eh, they act like they've never seen a guy from another century before... I mean, they need to get out more." She joked a little, giving a chuckle then a grin. "But I guess most of the other-century people pop up in Central Park instead." She continued. A lot of strange things were known to happen there so she didn't doubt that on occasion a person or two would get piss-drunk and think that they were in another time.

"As for the free food, that's why we're getting there early, silly. If I'm quick enough and am lucky enough, I might be able to grab myself a couple of plates and set it off to the side to nibble on while I'm at my post." She told him. "Now, drinks, on the other hand.... I might have to be extra sneaky about it and slip one by while Kaleb's not looking." She stated with a small wink. Tessa may not have been one to get drunk on the job but she did occassionally slip in a drink here and there. After-all, what was the point of helping with some rich person's party without testing out the higher quality beverages?

"Well, you look like you're ready to go... and these people staring at you is starting to get annoying.. So shall we?" She asked before starting to walk in the direction of the party. She assumed he would follow.

Re: Re: Re: Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
The inventor chuckled at her joking comment about him being from another century… if she knew she probably wouldn’t be still standing there, for if he told her the truth she would probably think he was mad or drunk. "As for the free food, that's why we're getting there early, silly. If I'm quick enough and am lucky enough, I might be able to grab myself a couple of plates and set it off to the side to nibble on while I'm at my post." Without knowing it he smiled, not used to being called names in a joking way "Now, drinks, on the other hand.... I might have to be extra sneaky about it and slip one by while Kaleb's not looking.”

“Now that I can probably help with” Percy was quite good at sneaking things at parties, he found that with people ignoring you most of the time one could slip around relatively unnoticed… that is until they begin to ridicule you. “But I am afraid I shall have to show restraint in my own drinking as it does not agree with me” true again, the last time he touched the stuff it was at a social event at his college… he ended up nearly blowing up an entire wing of the building with an experiment in the science lab.

"Well, you look like you're ready to go... and these people staring at you is starting to get annoying.. So shall we?"

“certainly, lead on hopefully the food will be there still…” He found himself following her, unfortunately it was in the opposite direction to the hotel so the walk home could be interesting, but now his stomach was rumbling somewhat beneath his shirt, he now realised that for the entire day he had not had a thing to eat "pardon me!" he exclaimed rubbing his stomach slightly "its been a long time since luncheon" he added.

“so how long have you been a DJ then, what made you start” the inventor was genuinely interested, though she could be forgiven for thinking he was just trying to break the silence with small talk as he trotted along to one side. It intrigued him as to how far things had come since his day, back then women didn’t have jobs, they stayed at home and looked after the house, only really going out to shop or visit friends.

For a woman to be in charge of the musical entertainment for an entire party was unheard of in his time… they only really organised the catering and then mingled with the guests until it was time to clear up. “I mean, forgive me but where I come from its not a known profession” a stray hair had dangled itself in front of his glasses, he pushed it back to where it belonged, his eyes straying from the route they were taking to her.

Re: Re: Re: Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
“Now that I can probably help with... But I am afraid I shall have to show restraint in my own drinking as it does not agree with me." Tessa grinned. She had knon a few people that couldn't hold their drinks and found a lot of the things that some would do while drunk off their rocker as funny. A few of the graduation parties she had helped out with came to mind making her hae to hold in a chuckle as she made herself more aware of the then and there again.

“Certainly, lead on hopefully the food will be there still..." His stomach growled loud enough for even her to hear and she covered her mouth with her hand lightly as a small laugh escaped. "Pardon me!... its been a long time since luncheon." He appologized as if it was an overly rude thing to have soemone's stomach add into a conversation. Another small laugh came at his reaction and she shook her head to tell him it was alright. The guy was definately acting the part of the costume. She wondered hwo he kept from laughing.

“So how long have you been a DJ then, what made you start? I mean, forgive me but where I come from its not a known profession.” She looked over at him with a slightly raised brow. Where exactly could he have come from where they didn't know about DJs? Amish country?

"Hmm..., I've been a DJ for a while now, I don't exacly remember when I started. I just got pulled into it I guess... Someone I knew was trying to help me out and cheer me up by taking me out to some parties and such. It was a friend of mine. She loved throwing parties. Well, she kept trying over and over to get me to help her out with different things and I guess I broke down and let myself go with her." Tessa stated, her eyes getting a slight far away look to them.

She remembered exactly how long ago it had been, actually. She wasn't about to say that though. It had been only eight months after Kevin had died and it had been one of his frinds who had been trying to help her get out of the depression she had fallen into. Tessa had only gone with her because she had told Tessa that Kevin would have wanted her to go. Even then, she had been angry about the girl bringing him up like that...

Tessa blinkked, forcing back the flashback and smirkked. "Well, come to find out, the DJ at the party had gotten totally plastered and my firend had got me to take over even though I didn't have the first clue on what to do. Needless to say, I caught on and it was really fun so I took it up as the job for now. I don't know if it's going ot be something I'll do for the rest of my life or not but hey, it's something." She told him before pausing at a large building. "Well, we're here." She stated.

"Hmm..., I've been a DJ for a while now, I don't exacly remember when I started. I just got pulled into it I guess... Someone I knew was trying to help me out and cheer me up by taking me out to some parties and such. It was a friend of mine. She loved throwing parties. Well, she kept trying over and over to get me to help her out with different things and I guess I broke down and let myself go with her."

She had been cajoled into it by a friend It was something that happened so often in his time, though usually it was not friends but fathers who forced their children into a profession they didn’t want to go into. But from the sound of things she was enjoying it so he didn’t need to feel sorry for her, unlike most of those from his time… they usually hated their enforced profession and it was not that easy to change what you did for a living back then.

"Well, come to find out, the DJ at the party had gotten totally plastered and my firend had got me to take over even though I didn't have the first clue on what to do. Needless to say, I caught on and it was really fun so I took it up as the job for now. I don't know if it's going ot be something I'll do for the rest of my life or not but hey, it's something."

He laughed quietly at the thought of her not knowing what to do, though he felt sure that his visualisation of the event was completely wrong… but it was amusing enough. “Well if it is as easy as I’m imagining then ‘tis a good way to earn money” Percy himself had found his profession quite easy, he got to do the thing he loved the best and got paid for the pleasure, but there was not any call for inventors from another century in this world… and working with William and Angel was not so easy.

"Well, we're here." Stopping in front of the building he peered upwards, it was not only large, but the architecture was not too bad either… it must have cost a lot to build, he was so busy admiring it that he almost forgot why he was even here. “oh dear” he murmured verry quietly to himself, how much of a fool did he feel at the moment… he was NOT dressed for this sort of event, even though Tessa thought he was in a costume and that these people would probably assume that same it did not stop the inventor from being embarrassed about it.

He would just have to do his best at concealing his embarrassment, the only thing he could think of to do this would be to try and emulate the popular people from parties in his time… but without the incredibly insulting behaviour, just the confidence they all seemed to possess and he didnt. composing himself and Leaning forwards he took hold a of the shiny knocker and tapped it lightly, he didn’t know that it was probably meant for display purposes only, completely overlooking the button for the doorbell

“hmmm…” he stepped back from the door and looked around after waiting for a second for an answer “perhaps we are too early, unless of course they are all busy setting up… do you think it is worth shouting through a window” Percy had noticed one slightly open when they arrived, it was quite a rude thing to do though so he just tried the knocker again, stepping back once more

a quiet walk around the city (open)
“Well if it is as easy as I’m imagining then ‘tis a good way to earn money” Percy stated. Tessa ran her fingers through her hair before replying to him, smiling. "Well, to some people it might be hard. I just happened to have the luck of catching on to the flow of it and to actually find interest and entertainment in the whole thing. A lot of people have a harder time doing things they don't like because they're fighting against learning if they don't find interest in doing so." She commented.

As Percy knocked on the door, Tessa gave a little chuckle. “Hmmm…perhaps we are too early, unless of course they are all busy setting up… do you think it is worth shouting through a window” At his words, her chuckle turned into a giggle. She then stepped up to the door and took hold of the knob. "We don't need to knock. It's an open house party so we can step right in." She told him, turning the knob. As the door stuck a little, Tessa gave it assistance opening by giing it a light bump with her hip. A brief moment after, it was open and she had a foot past the doorway.

" So... where do you come from?" She asked, her curiosity getting the best of her. "I mean, you didn't know what a DJ was, you're totally polite and such, you're conciderate and back there when the delivery guy and I were exchanging a couple of heated words, you seemed genuinely shocked." She said, pausing where she stood. "If that was all acting then you deserve an oscar or somehting. You should go into that line of work." She added, giving a smile.

Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
OOC: its short, i appologise but it is also quite late here so i'll use that as an excuse :D

"We don't need to knock. It's an open house party so we can step right in."

He gave her a sheepish look “oh… sorry I forgot for a moment there” as she opened the door he stepped up to hold it as best he could but he was the wrong side really " So... where do you come from? I mean, you didn't know what a DJ was, you're totally polite and such, you're conciderate and back there when the delivery guy and I were exchanging a couple of heated words, you seemed genuinely shocked."

He smiled at her, not sure whether that was a compliment or not, he decided to take it as a compliment, after all he received so little that he might as well accept what came his way "If that was all acting then you deserve an oscar or somehting. You should go into that line of work." “thank you…” he closed the door behind him, then realised that he had not actually answered her question “I mean” he paused agin, not sure what to say… if he said where he was actually from he would either be ridiculed or committed to a mental home, but if he lied it would be going against all the principles he held dear…

“it was not acting, I’m from England… a very old fashioned part” he thought best to add the last bit, not really sure what England would be like in this time, though he felt certain that his country would not be as rude or inconsiderate as this one could be. “Now where is this DJ equipment then” he changed the subject in the most tactful manner possible, looking around the entrance to the house, it was a lot more modern than the hotel.

“Though would it be best if we informed our host of our arrival first so as he knows who is here otherwise it could be a bit embarrasing for him in conversation not knowing someone's name” common etiquette in his time, though once more he was unsure of how to behave in this modern age… did one introduce oneself at parties nowadays or did you just march in and carry on as if you owned the place?

Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
“Oh… sorry I forgot for a moment there... thank you…I mean... it was not acting, I’m from England… a very old fashioned part." He told her. One of her brows rose slightly. <It pretty much has to be Amish country for him to be like that.>She thought to herself. “Now where is this DJ equipment then...Though would it be best if we informed our host of our arrival first so as he knows who is here otherwise it could be a bit embarrasing for him in conversation not knowing someone's name.”

"Yea, I guess you're right. I'll call him up and see if he's in the building... I know, this is a little lazy of me but I don't know where he migh be hiding so I'm going to use my celly." She told him before pulling out her cellphone and dialing it rapidly with the thumb of the hand that was holding it. As she waited for it to ring, she pointed over in the direction where the equipment was still being set up. "The table's over there." She told Percy right before Kaleb answered the phone.

"Yea, talk to me." Kaleb stated, his voice clear from her using the speaker phone option. "That's not very oldsy. How are you supposed to be hosting this party with that Hollywood attitude huh?" Tessa teased, clipping the cellphone to her pants as she looked around for him. "Well I knew it was you." He replied. She gave a small laugh. "Well if you know so much then why don't you come out of whatever hidey-hole you might have pulled yourself into and come greet your guests. I brought a straggler." She stated, winking at Percy to show him she was just kidding around.

"But I was just about to hit on this really hot chick that just walked by.... Hahah just kidding. Alright, I'll be right there." Kaleb stated. "You better hurry, that really hot chick you're talking about might be that transvestite from the other party." She stated, bringing up an old inside joke. "That'd explain the stubble..." He stated, going along with her. "Alright, I think I see you now so I'm hanging up." He told her. "Not if I hand up first!" She stated before turning the celly off.

Blonde hair, brown eyes, and the fashion sense of someone who gets dressed in the dark- it was Kaleb who was walking over to them in an over-priced costume that reminded her of pirates of the carribean and Sherlock Holmes all at the same time. Tessa gave a grin, not showing the fact she was making fun of him. "Where's my hug?" He asked before wrapping his arms around her.

When his hands grabbed at her butt, Tessa pushed him away laughing a little but at the same time a little irritated. "You might be my boss for the night but if you do that again, I'm slapping the daylights out of you and leaving." She told him. This was obviously not the first time she had been grabbed by someone.

Directing his attention away from her, she brought it to the man she had come with. "Kaleb, this is Percy. Percy, this is Kaleb. You can make with the intros while I grab up a few things and go to my post." She said before walking off in the search for food and drink.

((OOC- sorry it took so long, I posted like 3 times to have it eaten and this is my fourth attempt. hopefully it will go through. ))

ooc: thats ok... mine went like that aaages ago and i lost posts for about two months...

"Yea, I guess you're right. I'll call him up and see if he's in the building... I know, this is a little lazy of me but I don't know where he might be hiding so I'm going to use my celly." Celly, it was a term he hadn’t heard of but instead of sounding stupid by asking he just pretended that he knew what she was on about, understanding what a ‘celly’ was as she produced it from her person. William had told him about these, a mobile telephone, no wires and apparently can be seen as a fashion item.

As Tessa wandered around looking for this Kaleb person Percy tried his hardest not to listen in to the conversation she was having so as not to be considered rude, smiling when she winked at him, not really understanding half the conversation she was having on the phone. Observing around the room the inventor eyed the table that had been pointed out earlier, deciding that he was definitely going to go over there as soon as possible as it looked very intriguing to say the least.

"Where's my hug?"

the sound of a man’s voice from the direction of Tessa brought his attention back from the machinery, the pair obviously knew each other... he assumed that this was probably Kaleb, well whoever he was he seemed a little on the strange side, not only was he trying to grope her, but he was dressed like something Percy could not describe… and he thought he looked a little silly in his clothes, at least they were fashionable in his time

"Kaleb, this is Percy. Percy, this is Kaleb. You can make with the intros while I grab up a few things and go to my post."

A slight fear crept over the inventor as Tessa wandered off leaving him on his own with this strange person that he had never met before… “So… I guess you two know each other then” once more he felt as if he was a complete idiot how obvious was it that they were acquainted, still it might be a good conversation starter.

Re: Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
As Tessa walked away, Kaleb seemed to forget that Percy was there for a moment as he intently watched the back of the woman's hip-huggers and rubbing his chin. It was obvious that he was thinking thoughts that would have gotten him slapped had he spoken them out loud. “So… I guess you two know each other then” Kaleb tore his eyes away from the quarter-bouncing booty and looked at the guy that had been just recently introduced to him.

"Yea, we met a few months back at a party I was invited to. I thought she was cute and she did a great job so I asked her for her number only to get her business card." He stated with a smirk. "I don't know her too personally though. I'm just a friend of a friend's friend." He continued before looking back over in the direction that the DJ went off to so to see if he could get another look at her. She wasn't in a convenient spot to watch her at so he didn't take too long in looking back to the person he was talking to.

"I would have gotten to know her better but she's a tease. She leads you on only to leave you hanging." He commented. "So, are you trying to get to her too? If you are, you going to have a hell of a time. In the last party, I saw about five guys walk up to her and get dropped like a bad habit. It was kind of funny actually." He stated, grinning at the memory. "So, how long have you known her? As you see, she didn't go much into details right there when she introduced us." Kaleb stated.

Tessa had known Kaleb had been staring. It seemed like he had a habit of doing that. So, at the first chance she got, she made sure to have plenty of things in the line of view to get him to give up. As she finished making a plate for herself and as she walked to her work area, she made a mental note not to take another job from him. The whole grabbing thing had pissed her off a little. Enough to try to not deal with him if she didn't have to.

Setting the plate down someplace out of sight, she looked over at the equipment. Tessa gave a small groan and an annoyed huff though when she saw that the people in charge of setting everything up hadn't gotten things right. Most of the wires were out of place, some of them unplugged altogether. Another reason that was given to her to just say to hell with it and leave.... But she was too nice to just do that to someone. Even if that someone was a jerk.

Hmmm, the way this Kaleb was looking at her and talking was just not right, not to Percy anyway. From what this guy was saying he barely knew her and had the gall to grab her buttocks… and now he was looking at her as if she were a piece of meat, as first impressions went he had not made a good one on Percy, the inventor disgusted by his dishonourable behaviour.

"I would have gotten to know her better but she's a tease. She leads you on only to leave you hanging. So, are you trying to get to her too? If you are, you going to have a hell of a time. ‘Trying to get to her’… who did Kaleb think Percy was, it would not be right to think in that way, or at least not to say it in that way… if Percy was interested in her he would certainly not be ‘trying to get to her’ but it would be impolite to simply tell him to sod off and learn some manners, even though the inventor would dearly love to do so “no, she didn’t go into much detail did she” he tried not to sound as if he was insulted by the other man’s language and the way he acted

“Well I have known her long enough to realise that she probably has better taste in men than to go along with any Tom Dick or Harry that decides to seek her attentions” his voice coming out unusually superior, his accent helping even though he pretended it was just a joke so as not to cause any offence… secretly wanting to wipe the smirk of his grinning face.

“so what do you do usually” he changed the subject, making it seem as if he was actually interested in Kaleb, even though he’d rather go and munch on some of the food that he’s seen Tessa pick over before she went to the table, but etiquette denoted that this was the host and it would be very rude to just disappear without speaking to him, though he could see from out the corner of his eye that tessa was not looking too happy with what was going on with her equipment.. he'd have to go and see if she needed a hand in a minute

“No, she didn’t go into much detail did she... Well I have known her long enough to realise that she probably has better taste in men than to go along with any Tom Dick or Harry that decides to seek her attentions.” Kaleb listened to Percy comment. “So what do you do usually?” The man asked.

At first, Kaleb ignored the question, putting it off for the moment as his attention stuck onto the comment about Tessa not going along with any Tom Dick or Harry. Sure, his tone had seemed like he was joking but hadn't he just seen how Tessa had shot him down? He wasn't any 'Tom Dick or Harry'. He was Kaleb Emmerman. Someone who rarely got declined.

"I'm not any of those and she's turned me down too." He stated, his eyes narrowing. "You saw how she acted when I just said hello." He stated.

Tessa, who had been working on getting everything the way it should have been, happened to take a look over to where Percy and Kaleb were talking and spotted the aggresive look that Kaleb had acquired. While he was in mid-speech, she tweaked at her abilities a little to try to hear what was going on only for Kaleb's voice to go booming through the room on accident. "SHE TURNED ME DOWN TOO. YOU SAW HOW SHE ACTED WHEN I JUST SAID HELLO." Came his voice.

Realizing she had just had another slip up with her abilities, she turned a couple of shades of red. Luckily for her, it could seem like it was embarrassment from his words. As she watched to see his reaction, she saw he seemed to be caught off gaurd about how loudly he had just spoken, him looking over to the drinks at the mini bar then over at Tessa. She could practically see his thoughts in his action. He thought he had drunk a little too much, which was a good thing for her.

Tessa stood up quickly and made her way over as if she were irritated by what had just been said and how it had been said.... Well, some of it was true, she didn't like the way he acted like there had been nothing wrong with the way he had greeted her. There had been everything wrong with it! As she closed in, she crossed her arms, glaring at Kaleb.

"Look, you are just going to have to find another DJ." She started, her temper shimmering in her now dark hazel eyes. "Don't ask me where to find one on this short of notice but I'm sure that your money can by one up real quick." She stated, her arms uncrossing and hands falling ot her hips.

"You... Did you encourage him?" She snapped over in Percy's direction. She didn't know him enough to know if he would just flip-mode on her while he thought he could get away with it or not.

"So what if he did? It's your fault you know! You should have just gone along with me! You would have had a man, had money, and you wouldn't be where you are now where a few words from me can make it so you'll never work in New York again!" Kaleb pretty much yelled.

Tessa's eyes became darker than they had been before, going to almost a black as her hands lowered and balled into fists. Suddenly, one hadn lashed out, making a resounding slap and causing Kaleb's head to jerk to the side.

"You know what, I don't care what your money or your words can or can not bring! I've been doing the DJ thing whenever I felt the need to and I will ALWAYS do it when I want to and a few words from a jackas$ like you isn't going to change the fact that I'm the best one in my line of work in this city! I'm not one of those money grubbing women who'd sell their body to stay on someone's good side." She snapped before slapping him again, this time with the other hand. "THAT'S for the grabbing!" She hissed out before whirling to face Percy again.

"Sorry for thinking you might have encouraged him, I was wrong. He'd never stick up for you if you really did it so I know you didn't now. I'm about to leave this dump and go to the Pizza Shack... The food here was waaaay too overpriced to be tasting like dirt like it does." She stated, trying to keep herself from continuing with her temper.

She turned to face Kaleb again, her anger rising just at the sight of him. "And YOU! If you even THINK of trying to file a report on me, I'll casterate you!" She stated before stormming out through the doorway.

Kaleb rubbed his sore cheeks which now held two handprints on them. "Stupid @#%$. She's lucky that she caught me on a generous day or I would have her locked away so fast." He growled out, glaring out at where Tessa had stopped at the sidewalk to try to gain her composure back.

Re: Re: Re: Re: a quiet walk around the city (open)
"I'm not any of those and she's turned me down too. You saw how she acted when I just said hello." The inventor leaned backwards slightly as Kaleb’s voice suddenly became a bit on the loud side, he was just about to reply with *and I don’t blame her* when Talia stormed over, quietly he shuffled around as she shouted at the guy "You... Did you encourage him?" Percy jumped nearly out of skin as the young woman turned on him, what had he done… he had only been nice to her.

But once more he didn’t get a chance to reply before Kaleb butted in, his attitude was not admirable, how dare he stand there and talk to her as if she was some sort of possession to be bought and was glad that she hit him, wishing deep inside that he could do so himself. "Sorry for thinking you might have encouraged him, I was wrong. He'd never stick up for you if you really did it so I know you didn't now. I'm about to leave this dump and go to the Pizza Shack... The food here was waaaay too overpriced to be tasting like dirt like it does."

A flicker of a smile crossed his face, this time he was glad to b leaving a party early, why was it that the people with lots of money always acted like this, caring little for anodyne else’s feelings. Without a word to the host he turned and began to walk out the door following the girl to the street, all the while containing the urge to hit the rude arrogant idiot square on the jaw… all had been said and there was no real need for any more violence “pizza sounds goo..” he didn’t get to finish "Stupid @#%$. She's lucky that she caught me on a generous day or I would have her locked away so fast."

Percy stopped just inside the doorway, why couldn’t have the guy have left it there… how DARE he call someone that, after all she had done nothing to him that he didn’t deserve. With a quick glance at Talia he turned back and walked towards Kaleb “look here sir, if I were you I would curb my language whilst ladies are present… or are your manners like your dress sense… appalling” the inventor made as if he were going to punch Kaleb, only stopping quickly “you aren’t even worth it… have a fun party, I’m sure there are plenty more girls for sale if you wave you money around for long enough, probably all you can wave...” with that he stormed out after Talia, feeling a little strange… what had he just done

The reality of the situation was only really sinking in, he had stood up to someone, and stormed out of their party. It was usually him creeping out after being ridiculed, he couldn’t believe that he had done something like that... it felt good. “Pizza sounds lovely, shall we go…” he had his back turned away from the doorway he had just left, not wanting to look back in case Kaleb was following them to exact some revenge

Tessa turned around to look at Percy who was giving Kaleb his two cents and a slight smile came to her lips, her trying not to laugh at Percy's comment about Kaleb's fashion sense. It did look kind of like he had gotten dressed in the dark now that she thought aout it. Her smile turned into a little grin at that thought. Hearing Percy talk to Kaleb like that made her feel a little better. If he hadn't spoken up, Tessa would have most likely lost her temper on the guy and doneher beast to pummel him with her fists and with. Words that girls even in this day and age shouldn't be heard yelling out ion public. And had she reacted that way, she would have most likely gotten arrested... Which was not in her planbook ever.

“Pizza sounds lovely, shall we go…” Percy commented as he came over to where she was standing. She couldn't help but to just look at him for a moment and smile. "That was really nice of you, Percy. You might have just saved that guy's life." She stated, giving a little grin. "If you hadn't done anything Kaleb might have ended up being really messed over... I have a bit of a temper problem. I guess it's the Irish in me." She told him. She cast a mean glare over at where Kaleb was still standing all appauled and as if expecting an appology then looked away, casting her gaze over at the pizza shop that was not too far away.

"Let's go, I'm starved... And I need to get that nasty snobby after-taste out of my mouth." She stated with a half-smile before makign her way across the street. For once, the traffic actually waited for people to cross insted of speeding up so they'd have to wait.

There came a little ding sound as they went through the doorway and the workers behind the counter looked over past the line of people to see who it was. Tessa gave them a little wave and they smied a little beforte goign back to their routine. "The line's a bit long as you see.. You can grab us a seat and wait there if you want so you don't have to stand around getting stared at." Tessa told Percy as she looked over her shoulder at him.

"That was really nice of you, Percy. You might have just saved that guy's life. If you hadn't done anything Kaleb might have ended up being really messed over... I have a bit of a temper problem. I guess it's the Irish in me."

Still shocked from his outburst the inventor smiled back at her “well In that case perhaps I should have left it, I don’t think he deserves me being nice to him” he glanced back over his shoulder, it would have been nice to see someone land one on Kaleb… he had only known the guy for a minute or two and already he hated him, people like that needed to be taught how to behave. it was just a mystery to him that people with money could be so unkind to others… his uncle had been quite wealthy and he was never rude in that way, Percy too was not a poor man, his job paying quite well, but he had been taught how to behave from a young age.

"Let's go, I'm starved... And I need to get that nasty snobby after-taste out of my mouth."
The inventor chuckled as they crossed the road, trying hard to hide his uncertainty as the cars slowed for them, after being nearly run over twice he was a little edgy around them. “Luckily I did not have a chance to taste that flavour… I had not managed to reach the food table”
Inside the pizza parlour the inventor paused as the smells flooded his nostrils, with a smile he remembered his first meal in this time period… pizza and Chinese food. But this smelt a little different from that, after all there were more than one flavour of pizza he had been told, his eyes skimming the menu boards trying to take in all the different varieties whilst trying his best to ignore the fact that he still had not eaten since breakfast.

"The line's a bit long as you see.. You can grab us a seat and wait there if you want so you don't have to stand around getting stared at."

“No that’s okay I’m not against queuing, I did a lot of waiting in my time.. and I get used to them staring” Percy’s mistake went unnoticed to him “and anyway it would not do for a gentleman to sit down whilst a lady was ordering.. if you tell me what you want I’ll order and you can find somewhere to sit” he smiled in her direction as he spoke, for once he would be able to do this as he did have some money in his wallet… his share of the profit from a successful case, and although he realised that the value of money had changed much over the years he was sure that it was still quite a good wage.
