birdshot
My husband has been diagnosed with birdshot. He was being treated successfully with MTX for over a year and then had a flare up in March of this year. Our local doctors in Syracuse, New York said the MTX will probably not work any longer. They wanted Dr. Foster to make the decision.

So our biggest fear came true, after the testing in Boston, it has now gone into the right eye, too, as the white dots showed up on the ERG, although there were no active cells in either eye on the day of our appointment with Dr. Foster.

He is now on cellcept and cyclosporin. I am wondering if other birdshot patients have had luck with this medication.

We are very upset because as of October of 2008, we thought his uveitis was in "remission" and there would possibly be an end to the MTX.

Any information would be appreciated.

Re: birdshot
Deborah,
Welcome to the group. Dr Foster is the very best with this stuff and the combination of meds your husband is now under often works the best. But, if needed, Dr Foster can use a whole range of meds of different classes alone or in combination to stop the Birdshot.
we have several members with this forum of uveitis and hopefully they will greet you here and then discuss this in other forums such as the Support forum and the Learning about OID forum or even the Friendship forum should you wish to share good things that come your way. we are here to listen while you let off some of the anxiety. I must commend you for making the effort to join and learn from this site.

wishing you the very best,

Birdshot
Cyclosporin and cellcept is a good start. it is very effective for birdshot, if you can tolerate it, or so I have been told. I could not tolerate cyclosporin and so move on to tacrolimus instead. It is a question of getting the right solution for the individual. I am now off the tacrolimus but still on the cellcept. Unfortunately still with 7 mg of pred.

Mike - I have a lady who has been in touch with me about a good specialist in california who will work with Foster on her birdshot. I am not sure where she lives exactly. Can you make any recommendations. You can email me at birdshot @ live. co. uk, if you have any names to suggest, if you prefer.

Thanks

Annie
