Re: Egoyan
Kai seemed to have a bit more softness/emotion with Zev, a spark of something. I never really saw that with the other Xev. Maybe it's just the way MM played his character and got into the more emotionless dead man after the first Zev died. Perhaps it affected him a bit and he couldn't feel the same towards the new Xev because she looked different. But the first Zev and Kai definitely had some heat between them.

I have to agree on that. There was a special chemistry between them. I suppose it was mainly because Eva had a crush on Michael, and it would be hard to not like someone who has the hots for you. Besides, she was very young when they were shooting the first season (19 I think), and probably he kind of took her under his wing. Anyway, one can clearly see that they liked each other.
Re: Egoyan
Yes, they definitely had some chemistry going on. If it hadn't been for this early Zev/Kai chemistry, I'm not sure I would have liked the character of Kai nearly as much later. It really set up the entire story arc and gave the series the bitterweeet quality we all seem to like so much. Without it, Kai would just be flat/dead, but it adds all kinds of facets to his (non)personality, and gives him a bit of mystery. Everyone wants to know what Mona Lisa's smile is about, after all -- so too the mysterious Kai looks. I wonder if the series would have been as successful if Xenia had been in the original cast?
Re: Egoyan
Sorry, BTW, all of that should probably be under the "Kai's Emotions" thread. Hope no one minds. I'm crap at staying on topic.

Oh yes, I think it would have been. Because when Lexx first aired in America on the Sci Fi channel, they didn't show the movies first, or even the first two episodes of Lexx. They aired the eps out of order and concentrated on the 'sex' aspect of the show, to they started off showing the eps with Xenia first. So that is the character I was used to as Xev. When they finally aired the movies, the whole backstory/storyline made much more sense, sci fi didn't air the movies til August of 2000 after most of season two had been shown already. If you were lucky, you caught lexx when it first aired on showtime as the movies I think back in 1997. And of course season two had shown first in other countries before the U.S., so it already had an established fan base going.
Re: Egoyan
Having watched them all in order, that seems so weird to me. I was actually quite disappointed when Xenia replaced Eva and thought her much less interesting as an actress. She did grow on me quickly though, and now I like both Z/Xev in their own ways. Zev still holds a more special place in my heart though, I think, because of seeing the movies first.
What did you think of Zev when you first saw those episodes? Was it similar to my reaction with Xenia, only reversed?

Re: Egoyan
I actually quite liked Zev when I saw the episodes, she had sass and she seemed to really care about Kai, it was very bittersweet and kind of romantic. I kind of answered this in another post, but I think when Zev died, the part of Kai that felt anything for her, that spark of emotion, died also. And when the second Xev came along, she didn't look the same, so he was a bit more emotionless with her, is how I feel about it.
Re: Egoyan
That's an interesting thought. In Terminal, he definitely shows how upset he is at Zev's death and IS motivated to save her protein goo. In Lyekka, he seems to almost be in a "don't wanna talk about it" mode with Stan and the Potato guys. Yet when Xev is created, he never does seem to reconnect with her in the same way he had with Zev.
I love all of those theories that Kai really did feel some measure of emotion yet kept it hidden. It's an interesting idea that gives lots of possiblities to the character and his relationship to His Shadow and Z/Xev. With MM saying that Kai was just "dead, dead, dead," it doesn't seem like that was the intent, yet it is still cool that it worked out like that because of the actors' chemistry and the fact that plot lines were still being hashed out as they filmed.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it a piece of fanfic you wrote that had the "sensitive/psychic" girl who knew that Kai was simply hiding his emotions? That was a very cool concept; there are just so many ways that you could make great Kai stories based on that idea.

Re: Egoyan
Yeah, the story is called Kai's Hope and it was the very first story, and Lexx story that I had ever written back in 2000. Because back then I was alot more fresh on my view's of Kai's character and I always felt he had some bit of emotion left in him, no matter how much he denied it. And maybe there would be hope for him to be alive again one day. Little did I know that life would be given to him in the very last ep of season 4, only to have him truly die a final death in Yo Way Yo.
Re: Egoyan
I got the book to Egoyans Speaking parts recently and read it.
Itīs quite wonderful to have such an insight on the story, I think even I spotted some of his ideas, the whole thing he did is amazing...I would have never understood the whole thing if I hadnīt read the book.
And I think that no one could do it better than MM, really. Heīs an good actor. I always loved those independent movies and actors...
I really hope now that he's back in Canada he will hook up with some good directors. There's just something special about MM's acting and it will be a shame if he doesn't work in film/tv again. I'd love to see him do another film with Egoyan or one with Srinivas Krishna (who directed some of the Lexx Eps and the great movie Masala).
What other directors would you like to see him paired with? It seems likely that he will work with Paul Donovan again, doesn't it? What do you think are the odds?

Re: Egoyan
I'd love to see him working with Paul D. again. Right now MM is going to test the Vancouver waters and see if he can make some connections out there. I really, really hope someone gives him a job. We're in quite the MM drought.
Re: Egoyan
I just assumed he was moving back to Toronto. MM in B.C. just seems kind of odd and I don't know why, since I don't know much about the man at all. He went to school in Alberta though, right (?) so he can't mind getting away from Toronto a bit.
If he's in B.C. I might actually stand a chance of getting to see him in a play sometime, since I travel there occasionally. Other side of Canada, no way. I know Vancouver has a pretty good theater community, but does it have much of a film/tv production industry? Is it a good place to go if you're an actor looking for work?

Re: Egoyan
Vancouver, B.C. is called the North Hollywood, it's a major film/TV industry there. He's not living in VAncouver as far as I've heard, but he would for if he gets an acting job there, I'd think. But his home base is in Toronto. Are you going to the timeless destinations con in Vancouver later this year?
Re: Egoyan
No, I've got no plans to go to the con. I've just never been very interested in them for some reason, although I understand why people go. If it was in my hometown or something, I'd be much more likely to attend. Guess if I'm going to spend that much money on something, it better be DAMN entertaining!!! Is this the one that MM is supposed to attend? If you go, you will have to give us the full report.

Re: Egoyan
It's an expensive con, that's for sure. But it's also the 10 years Lexx reunion of the Lexx cast. And MM is really going.....so...save up your change, I think it'd be worth it to go. If I can strangle enough change from my purse, I'm thinking about it. I'm sure there'll be lots of pics floating around after the con.
Re: Egoyan
I'll be counting on you for all the juicy details and pictures of the gorgeous one. If I WERE to ever go to a con, it might be this one -- Lexx folks seem to be so welcoming and the cast seem like they would be fun to meet.
Are a lot of the people on this site those who went to Halifax and got to see the set? That would have been really fun, I bet. I'm always so nosy to see the behind the scenes details!
10 years. Maybe being back together a bit will make everyone come up with a new project to work on together, or more likely, everyone will just get drunk and remember why it all fell apart in the first place.

This will be the con to go to, if you plan on going, because of all of them being together, and who knows if MM will ever do one again.
It'll be a blast, I know some of the people going and it'll be a great get together.
I couldn't afford to go to the Halifax cons back in the day, but I do have some memorbilia signed by the lexx cast from 2001 Hali con that I treasure that was signed by them, then mailed back to me.
Some updates about the con and happenings while at the con will be posted to the lexxzone board at:
Re: Egoyan
So, this will be your first time meeting them all in person?
I'd be too nervous that they might all really have three eyes, etc. -- what if all my illusions were shattered?! For some reason, I'd just never want to know if they beat their kids, had dandruff, and so on. Let me live with my blinders on!!! I'm an escapist, so sue me!

I know what you mean, Pippi. This will be my first time meeting any of them, and you just have to look at it as they're just regular people like anybody else, with their own quirks and ways about them. The fact that they did Lexx is an added bonus.
If you are able to make it, let me know, there'll be some things for the lexxians to do.
