That is what ticks me off so much as my husband has been getting these promo CD's for over 2 years and he always gets like about 10 each time(Who the hell is going to post 1 at a time in an envelope?) he had never been charged customs on them before?(Not on the promo CD's anyway) Like I said in an earlier post(I think?) we were charged for Burnt CD''s once and they deemed those at $10:00 each in value which is way wrong as a blank cd to burn would be like $2:00 tops each! So how they come up with the prices for what they feel is the value and then charged a cutom on that amount is total BULL!
Like the cookbooks I refused the price was stamped on the back of them if they had even bothered to look? they were not big or hardcover cookbooks they were cheap paperback cookbooks and yet they wated to charge me $35:00 customs so that meands they valued them at about $40:00 each? how on earth do they think a paper back cookbook is worth $40:00??
I get parcels all the time as I write to over 135 pen-pals worldwide I have been wrting to pen-pals since I was 10 years old so I do get a lot of stuff sent to me and usually if the green deceleration sli for a small package is on it they do not charge me customs in fact they don't usually even open them? and if it is a larger parcel with the white form/decleration form on it they usually don't open that either, but at least I now know to tell people to put a value of less than $20 US funds as with the exchange I don't want customs to convert it to Canadian funds and value it as over $70:00 as then I do have to pay customs on it even if it is a gift!
