Haunted 1901 Indiana Funeral Home

In 2000 I purchased some property in downtown Kokomo, Indiana. One of the lots was the only black owned funeral home in centeral Indiana durning the early 1900's called, Jacob's Funeral Home. We spent the next year or so remodeling the 2nd level which we now rent out as a downtown apartment. The second level was remodeled for office space used by law offices and insurance compaines. The total square feet is about 14,000. This year in 2003 we started remodeling the 4,000 square foot basement. After a few months of knocking down walls and moving old doors and windows left down there we came into problems with piles and piles of old rotted boxes in one of the old store rooms in the basement that had been blocked off by the debris. Since then my wife has been going through the boxes and all the items inside them, cleaning up anything she can salvage. A lot of the boxes contain stacks upon stacks of old funeral home records and documents that are rotted and you can hardly read them but, several of the first boxes she has went through have items like artwork, old yellow stained photos, picture frames, jewerly, melted candles, antique candle holders, old gas lighting equipment, and even an old wash basin which was used durning the imbalming process. One of the boxes marked "misc belongings" was kinda creepy and distrubing none the less. We kept putting it to the side. We finally opened it up and dug through it. We're not sure if this was actual dead peoples belongings that was not properly placed on the corpses or in their coffins with them. It has a few old bibles which are in bad shape, some jewelry like a gold wedding ring, and a creepy little rotted stuffed animal. Kinda sad, but creepy as hell. Anyhow, after we are finished with the basement and demolish the coal chamber we hope to start remodeling the 3rd level which is an estimated 3,000 sqaure foot attic that has tons of broken funiture, new looking boxes, dusty old frames, a few chairs, and other misc junk in it. I looked through it a little with a flash light several times. I found a 1940's Coke can in a box of old newspapers dated 1932 - 1954. I like the can because I'm a big Coke fanatic so like a few other of the items I'm keep it. Besides it's made out of all steel, how cool is that? I don't know what else is up there but, it will take us a lot of time to sort through. Looks like it is more mid 1900's and up items from the newspapers. The problem with the attic and why we keep delaying is not just because we are doing one level at a time. We orginially wanted to remodel from the top down but, we skipped the 3rd level because the walls up there contain old gas lines which durning the early and mid 1900's was used for lighting. It's going to slow us down and cost a lot to have them removed. Plus we don't want to stir up all the old lead paint all over the 3rd level until we have to. Lead paint can be really nasty stuff to work with and clean up. Slowly but, surely we will have everything sorted and we'll be adding all these antiques and odd items to our eBay auctions.

Thats neat your finding stuff, but do you have proof that this place is haunted, if so what do you have?

Haunted Funeral Home
Hi Beast. Kokomo is in my sales territory and I'm there at least once a week. I'd be interested in doing a "drive by" of the location. I'd love it if you'd send the address to my inbox. Welcome to the board!

Re: Haunted Funeral Home
Small world! I'm downtown next to the Kokomo Tribune and the Library. You can't miss it. We're the only Gothic building in all downtown. You can see from my photos what it looks like.

When you're there, Notice the Orbs in the photos.

Re: Haunted Funeral Home
Welcome to the castle theblondebeast. Very interesting the things that you can find in old buildings when you renovate. I live in a house that was built around 1880 and we are trying to restore it. We haven't had the luck of course you have in finding anything that interesting. It's a big chore restoring old places. Good luck and do have fun with it.

Re: Haunted Funeral Home
I see the orbs in picture #2 and picture #12. Now picture #2 there appears to be a lot of rubble and such on the floor around there that if disturbed could have caused dust in the air which possibly can be mistaken for an orb in pictures. Picture #12 I'm going to take a closer look at when I get home on my monitor there. I can't tell if they are marks on the tanks there or not. Interesting nonetheless.

Re: Haunted Funeral Home
If anyone knows. What's the best way to capture these Orbs on film?

Re: Haunted Funeral Home
There is not a specific method to capture orbs on video, Its just a luck chance you get it. I would suggest though to find the higest level of paranormal activity in the home and film there. It may take many attempts and you may not get anything but its always worth a shot.
