Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
She thought for a spilt second when she heard the click of the door that Riley was about to jump from the moving jep but then she saw an arm snake around his waist. Cat found herself looking down the barrel of a gun for the second time this day, but it didn't seem to get easier even if she had done this twice now.

Cat clutched crazily onto the steering wheel, trying to keep the hummer on the road, she could feel her heart hammering away inside her chest. The next second she heard the sound of a helicopter and lifting her eyes she caught a glimpse of the military chopper.

She seemed to sense that the helicopter was about to open fire on her just before it did and she managed to somehow jerk the steering wheel over, hoping that in doing so she wouldn't dislodge Riley and whoever was grapling with him, the last thing she wanted was for him to die.

In the wing mirror she saw a rider on a bike pull up along side her, aiming a weapon at her, they wanted her to stop didn't they, but even if she'd wanted to her body seemed glued into place. She didn't want to go back there, she didn't want to go back into those small cells, now she'd tasted freedom again there was nothing more she wanted.

The next second there was the report of a gun, she half expected everything to go black but the woman on the bike suddenly careered away to one side, she didn't look back to find out what had happened to her.

'I'll be back, I promise.' She hardly had time to register what he'd just said before he was gone, hadn't he promised he'd remember her? Hadn't he promised he'd love her forever. Her worried eyes flicked to the empty seat he'd occupied before locking back onto the road again.

'You have to keep it steady for a moment, I will be back Catherine.'

'Damit Riley, get back here, where in hell's name do you think your'e going.' But he was gone, she watched in disbelife as he leapt onto a motorbike next to the hummer, he was mad .... she'd thought Spike was bad but this was just plain stupid. What if he got himself killed, how could she handle him dying, she couldn't she just knew she'd go to pieces again.

She flintched as the helicopter exploded, her eyes instinctivley moving away, it made her remember another explosion that had happend five years ago.

'...Are you hurt?' There was a moment of silence, Cat's face was obscured by her hair for the moment, but the hands that where gripping the wheel looked pale they were holding onto it so tightly.

'Don't you ever ...' Her head turned to look at him, her face caught somewhere between distraught and lividly angry and somewhat afraid, her eyes were large and tears swam in them. She couldn't believe how close she'd just come to loosing him, but hadn't he just killed people, he was a murderer, but he'd done it to protect them hadn't he? How many people had he killed before, she didn't understand how hands that had touched her so gently last night couldtoday kill people. '... do anything like that again.'

She pulled the car into a small layby at the side of the road, she didn't trust herself to drive any further just at the moment.

'Stay here.' She said opening the door and letting her body sort of slide or slither out of the jeep, the contents of her stomach churing. 'Both of you.' The road was now surrounded by a large wood, she needed just a few minutes to get her head straight. She made her way into the undergrowth trying not to limp too much.

As soon as the jeep was out of sight she was sick, she couldn't help it, her hands were shaking as she realised how close to death she'd been back there. Those flames were like something out of a nightmare, her own personal nightmare, they brought back too many memories,

After a couple of minutes she stirred herself and made her way back to the hummer, her cheek seemed very sore from being punched earlier she knew she was going to wake up with a swollen face in the morning. She managed to avoid looking at either Spike or Riley as the got back into the jeep, she just needed to be strong for a bit and then she could fall apart once she got back to Xaviers, thought she couldn't stop her hands from trembling.

She felt her hands almsot automatically reach for th hite bag which had now fallen down by her feet, replacing it where it had been and fishing out a bottle of distilled water. A mouthful helped remove the acidic aftertaste of being sick from her mouth.

'You should sit in the back.' She said looking at the split seatbelt her eyes still not meeting his.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
There was an explosion in the road ahead The fugitives were now in sight in a layby, T1 increased the motorbikes speed to catch up with one hand, the other loading shells into a semi-automatic shotgun. As he neared it the runaway Hummer started off quickly, and a black car raced up beside him, its engine roaring loudly, he ignored it and took aim at the hummers tires.

Inside the car Thompson loaded an extra large magazine into his gun and adjusted his sword in its back mounted sheath as he prepared himself mentally for the oncoming fight. “Here take this too” Johnson reached to his own gun and handed it to his partner, not looking from the road “thanks…” he took the gun then rolled down the window, one of them pushed into his belt so he had a free hand.

“Lets do this” he didn’t sound too confident, pausing a second before slowly heaving himself out of the window. As he left the relative safety of the car the rushing wind from the speed they were going threatened to pull him off the side, trying not to think of what would happen if it succeeded he clambered out and onto the roof and slid down the windscreen onto the bonnet.

The robot squeezed the trigger on his shotgun, the shot missed by a few inches, but he suddenly took notice of a burst of bullets ricocheting off his forehead. He turned to look at the car, Thompson was standing on the bonnet like it was some sort of skateboard, bracing himself from the wind his coat flapping round him, both guns raised in T1’s direction, another burst twanged off the robot, he returned fire, one of the shots smashing a headlamp. Johnson swerved, the robots aim was good and he was not about to let it hit nick or the tires.

As they danced around the traffic coming both ways bullets flew in either direction, the agents managing to draw the robots attention from cat and riley. After reloading again T1’s sensors detected the fugitives car was becoming farther away from him, he turned back to the Hummer, firing two shots at the rear left tyre, but again hitting tarmac, he sped up to allow a better shot.

The car sped up to match the bike, nick shifted his position he knew that if he didn’t take the robots attention away from Cat, they would either be back in the cells or dead. “closer” he yelled, lining up to shoot at the robots gun, if he couldn’t kill him he was at least going to disarm it. He took the shot, with a metallic twang the shot penetrated the shotguns chamber causing the shells to explode.

Slowly and mechanically T1 let go of the mangled shotgun and reached for a small grenade launcher positioned by the fuel tank, he was not going to be outdone by these puny humans, he accelerated more, the bike protesting constantly, he was now dangerously close to the Hummer. His first shot bounced off the vehicles back door and exploded in the road next to him, he swerved into the oncoming traffic to avoid it, then moved back into position behind the hummer.

“get between them” nick’s voice was almost drowned out by the sound of the explosion, the engine noise, and his own two guns firing rapidly if one of those grenades hit its mark there wouldn’t be much left of Cat to protect.

T1’s sensors picked up an increase in the revs from the car, more bullets flew past him, his shirt now had many puncture holes in it, he sneered, the agent must be getting desperate by now, it was a silly trait most humans had. He switched his aim, turning on the car as it tried to pass him, he skidded towards it, his barrel touching the cars wing, an evil red glint in his mechanical eyes.

Nicks face displayed a look of utter horror as the distinctive pop of the launcher fired and the crunching sound as the grenade penetrated the thin bodywork, then clinking as it bounced round in the engine before settling, for the first time in his life he felt a real fear for his life.

*Jump* Johnson’s voice echoed in his mind, he looked to his partner, the mans eyes were serious yet blank and emotionless. Less than a second later the explosion came, Nick jumped just in time, the bonnet engulfed in a fiery inferno, his body propelled forwards farther by the force of the explosion.

As he flew he felt a huge tearing in his mind, it hurt more than anything he had felt before in his life. His back hit something solid, instinctively he grabbed out, one of the guns was in his belt from where he had run out of ammo earlier. He opened his eyes, it appeared that he was hanging on to the back of cats vehicle, his legs dangling close to the road, blood dripped from his nose and his head felt like someone had torn out his brain but he managed to hold on

ok, soz its long but i havent posted in a while and soz for moving the hummer but its the only chance i will have of postin for a bit and i wanted to get the dying out of the way quickly, by the way the robot is still following on his bike

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
'Don't you ever ...' He couldn't tell which emotion was more powerful coming from her, but she was on the verge of shedding tears. One hand reached out for the cracked dashboard and the other held onto the back of his seat for more support while the car was moving.

'... do anything like that again.' When they pulled over Riley was terrified she was going to tell him to get out like she had suggested he could do earlier. He didn't want to leave, didn't she understand, they where going to hurt her, she was all he had, he didn't care if he got hurt.. as long as he did his job and protected her.

'Stay here.' Where was she going? She promised she'd stay with him, she wasn't going to walk away and leave them was she? As Catherine slipped out of the drivers seat and onto the ground outside, Riley looked back at Spike as if ordering him to go with her since she told Riley to stay. Spike glared at Riley, doesn’t anyone care about the fact he gets easily sunburned?

'Both of you.' Both watched her half walk half partially limp off into the trees, Riley already started to seem to panic with out her, looking over his shoulder and ahead of them, and in every direction as if worried someone was going to come and snatch him away now that he was alone again without her protection. Riley stared back at Spike, as if expecting the vampire to tell him what to do now, Spike just held up his hand and motioned for Riley to stay put and wait.

When she returned, Riley glued his eyes on her as if still expecting her to up and leave him again, but she didn't look at him. Spike wondered if she was going to be ok.. they had been through a lot, she lost her lover, and now she nearly lost him again and she was endangering her life for a guy who didn't even remember her. Riley watched closely as her hand placed the bag back to where it had been before the attack, the hungry for food being drowned out by the fear of being left alone.

'You should sit in the back.' With the vampire? Of course, she just wants him to get away from her, he didn't think about the seat belt, she had left and she didn't say she was going to return.

"You left." He stated rather dumbly, still devastated that she had just left them like that, and now she wanted him in the back.. she didn't want to be near him..

"... You promised you wouldn't leave.. and you left, and you didn't say you'd be back." He didn't want to look at her trembling hands, he didn't care to see her like this, there wasn't anything he was allowed to do to help her, so he just felt even more helpless.

"Riley." Spike's voice caused Riley to look back towards him, now seeming to feel he had to defend himself to the vampire, didn't they understand, without her he had no one and for those painfully long minutes he was with out her and he wasn't sure if she was going to come back, didn't they understand how frightening that was for him?

"... When you leave you have to say you're coming back, you have to, because a promise is a promise, it doesn't matter how long it takes to keep that promise, as long as it's kept. So if she says she's coming back then I'll know that she will be back, but if she doesn't then there's always the chance she won't come back!" He turned his back angrily to Catherine as he opened the door, she was still waiting for him to go into the back. But he hadn't even gotten his leg out of the jeep when he caught a glimpse of another speeding motorcycle.

"Catherine go!" Riley slammed his door shut.. and locked it as well this time, Spike spun about to see what was going on, Riley pressed his feet into the cracked dashboard in order to pin him back into the seat and stop him from slipping and sliding around the place.

"Bleedin' hell, he's got a shot gun!" Spike's voice was rather upset, those things hurt if they hit you.. well.. if they hit him, they'd pretty much kill if they hit a mortal. The tires wouldn't last long either by the looks of it, that rider was aiming for them. Spike and Riley peered back at the rider and another car that pulled up beside the biker, Riley's grip on his seat was very strong, it'd properly take him a while to realize how strong he really was compared to normal people.

"It's Nick an' his partner." Spike informed the two others in the jeep with him as soon as his heightened eyes picked up who they where. More gunfire.. was it ever going to stop? God, was this all his life consisted of? Running away from showers of bullets and continuous attempts on both his life and Catherine’s? He looked towards Catherine, maybe if she just gave him up.. maybe if she let them take him.. then they'd leave her alone? Spike watched behind them at the car and bike zigzagging in and out of the other cars, Riley wondered why... why was she endangering her life like this, why was she being so brave.. it was terrifying her and she was still doing it.

There was suddenly a loud explosion, and for some reason, Riley's hand reached over for the steering wheel, the thud of Nick's body slamming into the back of the jeep not distracting him from looking at Catherine. There was something wrong.. and he didn't like it, he didn't like it because these people seem to be after him and she was suffering because of it.

"Spike, can you help him inside?" There was the sound of Spike's door opening moments later, Riley's eyes looked back, his hand resting over Catherine's hand that held the wheel. Spike had climbed onto the roof of the jeep, the sun beating down painfully on his back, he was starting to realize that the light wasn't causing him to burst into flames. But that moment of delight wasn't long lived, his hands grabbing Nick and pulling him up onto the top of the Hummer.

"Get inside!" Riley's demand caused Spike to roll his eyes, what else where they going to do, have a bloody picnic up there? Spike half pushed half guided Nick down the side of the jeep, helping him into the car before quickly slipping back inside himself. Riley let go of the steering wheel as he stared back at Nick, the young man had no idea who this guy was, but Spike seemed to know him.

"Tin man's still followin'." The warning was spoken directly towards Catherine, Riley shifting about as best he could while still trying to secure himself on one spot. He then looked ahead on the road, then slowly down at the hand he had put over Catherine's hand when he had taken hold of the wheel during the second explosion. His eyes dropped from his hand to half way down his arm, staring at the needle marks, his other hand shifting from its hold on the seat to allow his fingers to run over the tiny marks. He hadn't noticed them before since his shirt had sleeves, but now that he was sleeveless he wanted to know why he had all these marks, on both arms.. was he on drugs? Was something wrong with him? Why did he have so many needle marks, what did they do to him, was it more then just take away his memories?

Riley (about Catherine): ...I have the feeling she's trying to tell me something..
every single time she looks at me.. she's trying to speak to me.. and I can't hear her.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
'When you leave you have to say you're coming back, you have to, because a promise is a promise, it doesn't matter how long it takes to keep that promise, as long as it's kept. So if she says she's coming back then I'll know that she will be back, but if she doesn't then there's always the chance she won't come back!' Hadn't she promised she wouldn't leave him? she should have to tell him everytime she went anywhere that she was going to come back again. Did he thinkshe was jsut going to walk off into the forest in the middle of nowhere and just never come back. She didn't want to listen to this at the moment, her head ached and her legs was protesting every time she moved it. She just wanted to wake up and realise that this was all a bad dream and that she was still in her bed at Xavier's, or back in Riley's arms even if she was back in the initiative again, anywhere as long as it wasn't here.

'It's not as if I was gonna go off anywhere, were in the middle of nowhere.' Her voice sounded hurt, she couldn't be there every second of every day for him, she wanted to be but it just wasn't possible. Hadn't he promised not to leave her and he had, Riley might still be here but her Riley ... the one she'd been with the night before was gone. She just wanted to reach over and hold him untill he remembered her, untill those hazel eyes showed some slight sign that he remembered her.

'Catherine go!' She didn't wait to ask what for, she already knew, it must be them again, now she understood why Riley said it was almost impossible to get away from the initiative ... they just didn't give up. The hummer pulled away sharply from the lay-by to the squeal of tires, her eyes flicking to the rear view mirror to get a look at what was following them. Her gaze then dropped to Riley's seatbelt she wouldn't be able to break hard in case he went flying though the front mirror. No wonder Riley had gone back to the initiative last time he'd tried to run away ... hadn't Claire left him then? ... maybe subconciously he was worried that Cat was going to do the same and leave him for the initiative to find. She'd convinced herself that if they could just get back to Xaviers everything would be alright. But she had no idea how she was going to do that, she was sure the initiative wern't going to just give up and let them go, she had the feeling they were going to be persued the whole of the way sicne the initiative knew exactly where she would be headed.

She tired not to listen to the sounds of gunfire behind her, the protective vest she was wearing suddenly seemed very thin, her eyes flicked over to the rear view mirror looking at the motor bike .... and Thompson standing on top of the car bonnet ... were all these men insane? Then quite suddenly he wasn't there anymore, red flames billowed out and something hit the back of the jeep.

It was quite probable she'd have lost control of the car just then if Riley's hand hadn't clamped down over hers, keeping the car steady, they were dead ... her mind just seemed to go blank for a few seconds, she blinked as if doing that would make the slightest difference to what had just happened. Why did people she know keep dying, perhaps it was just her, they were trying to protect her ... did that mean it was her fault, if they had still been in the initiative they would still be alive right now.

'Spike, can you help him inside.' She could hear Riley, feel his hand still on hers though his grip was very tight, he didn't seem to realise how hard he was holding onto her, she tired to pull her hand away.

'Riley, you're hurting me!' She said feeling him crushing her fingers against the steering wheel. The next moment Nick was inside the jeep, she breathed a sigh of relief, not knowing how he'd managed to end up alive after all that.

'Tin man's still followin.' A look of anger seemed to spring up in her eyes as she felt Riley move his hand off hers, her gaze moving to the wing mirror looking back at the motor bike and the huge man on board it. The bike looked faster than the hummer she'd taken, her eyes flicked back to the road ahead, seeing a turning off an idea came to mind.

'Hold onto something Riley.' She warned a second before she smashed on the breaks, at the same time spinning the wheel so the car span sideways in the road. She pressed down hard on the accelerator and the car shot off down the small bumpy road between the trees, she hoped that the motorbike would be slowed down due to the roughness of the road. It proved correct, the hummers suspension was second to none at it easily coped with the track they were now on but the bike dropped further and further beind until the trees at last swallowed it up. Cat didn't slow down though, taking all her concentration to hold the jeep on course and to negotiate some rather tight turns in the hummer which was as wide as a bus.

'Riley.' Her voice was more commanding now, she seemed to have accessed some strength reserves she didn't know she possessed. 'Open the glove compartment, see if there's a map, find out where this road comes out.' As far as she knew that bike rider would either have to follow them slowly or back track and go around the large wood, hopefully giving them some time to try and get away.

'Were going to have to find another route to Harmony, I'm sure they will be watching that one at least.' How close to Xavier's was Harmony? Could they even get there, right now she would have longer to see Storm, Jean or even Sean. Her powers were useless, she couldn't do anything but drive this stupid jeep, at least Sean would have been able to hold off their attackers.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
'Riley, you're hurting me!' It was only after Spike had informed them that the biker was still after them when Riley realized what Catherine had said before. The words repeated in his mind for a moment, he looked back at her, his lips parting as he was about to apologise..

'Hold onto something Riley.' It was an instant reaction after she spoke, his arms and legs grabbing what he could and holding him tightly in place. His body jerked slightly as the jeep spun about, one of his hands reaching for the roof of the Hummer to stop him from moving too much while they went over the bumpy terrain.

'Riley.' The Rogue agent's attention quickly turned bakc over towards Catherine, she sounded as if she was about to give orders.

'Open the glove compartment, see if there's a map, find out where this road comes out.' His hand reached for the glove compartment, his hand searching for the map and pulling out a neatly folded map with worn and slightly torn edges.

'Were going to have to find another route to Harmony, I'm sure they will be watching that one at least.' Again Riley's feet rested against the dashboard, pinning him back against his seat to one hand could hold him balanced and the other could hold the map.

"Riley, look for a way into the streets o'Harmony, we got back-up on the way, they'll be able to fight better on'em streets, Jenny know's'em like the back o'her hand." Riley frowned trying figure out what Spike was on about, whow as Jenny? Spike looked back then over to Thompson, he cleared his throat quietly before speaking.

"Uh.. sorry 'bout your partner mate.." Spike's bright blue eyes glanced over the other worldly agents face for a moment before turning to look back at the machine. Riley began scanning over the many roads, back roads, side roads, highways, freeways, dirt tracks, anything and everything that was between where they where now and where Harmony was located. It was hard since a none of the names where familiar to him, but he was always a very quick study, his finger traced a way towards the main streets of Harmony, his eyes darting from one road to another.

Are these people ever going to stop chasing them? Once they get to this school, what if that Xavier decides not to let him stay? What then? Will he be able to run from these guys forever, even if he could, would he want to? Every day on the run.. looking over his shoulder.. always afraid to lose everything he might have gained. He looked towards Catherine for a moment, then back down at the map..

"We should be approaching a small road that will lead into two different routes that can take us into the heart of Harmony, one route however takes us through a tunnel, which is dangerous since they can easily trap us in there." That was obviously Riley's round about way of suggesting they take the other route which leads onto another back road, Spike kept shifting about anxiously in the back, causing Riley to keep getting distracted until he finally stared back at the restless vampire.

"..Hello? Vampire.. feels like it's bloody a hundred degrees back'ere." He grumbled, not very pleased Riley was getting annoyed with him when Spike was in pain, not that he was going to complain. It's been so many years since he's been outside in the sunlight.. in an odd twisted way he was kind of enjoying the experience.

"Slayer musta found out you're missin' Nibblet, if I know her, she'd set up a small welcomin' commitee, you get us to Harmony, she'll get'is toaster oven off our backs." Riley shook his head still confused on how Spike knew all this, the vampire now trying to remove all traces of dried blood from his hands while he continued to explain things to Riley.

"Jus' like I can sense where the Slayer's are, they can sense where I am, long as I stay with you lot the Slayer's'll know where to find you." Riley just stared at the passing trees, all these people seemed to have all these amazing talents, he was starting to feel left out.. So what if he could tie a grapling hook onto a motorcycle and jam it in the prepellor of a chopper, that was simple.. these people had raidars in their heads, super reflexes, awsome driving skills.. He didn't OWN a car.. he probably couldn't even drive.. Wait, he had driven the bike before.. he didn't even think, he just did it, so maybe he could drive.. he just didn't want to, isn't that what the dark agent had said..

"Catherine.. what.. what will they do.. to me.. if they capture me?" He spoke very slowly, why where they so desperate to get him back, was he really that important to them? ..What would they do to Catherine.. maybe he should go back, if they wanted him.. he didn't want her to be hurt, if he goes back they'll stop hurting her.. but he didn't want to leave her.

Riley (about Catherine): ...I have the feeling she's trying to tell me something..
every single time she looks at me.. she's trying to speak to me.. and I can't hear her.

'We should be approaching a small road that will lead into two different routes that can take us into the heart of Harmony, one route however takes us through a tunnel, which is dangerous since they can easily trap us in there.' She kept her eyes on the road looking for any sign of the turn off, she didn't want to look back at Nick, she jsut wanted to pretend this all wasn't happening.

'Jus' like I can sense where the Slayer's are, they can sense where I am, long as I stay with you lot the Slayer's'll know where to find you.' She felt her heart jump slightly in her chest at the thought that both the slayers were on their way, she didn't think she could keep this up much longer. Her eyes saw the turn off and she had to break rather hard to make the turn, sending the hummer speeding off up this new track.

'Catherine.. what.. what will they do.. to me.. if they capture me.' She blinked, turning her head to look at him for a moment ... what would they do with him? she was sure if she resisted capture she'd be killed ... and she didn't want to die yet, she'd hardly had long to live. Eighteen years suddenly seemed like such a short space of time.

'Either kill you or take you back to the compound to finnish reprogramming you.' She looked back at the road, would they turn him back into Marc? she hadn't liked him, how was she supposed to turn Riley back into her Riley, how was she supposed to help him find out who he really was.

She could remember Joan talking about emotional stimulus but Riley had got upset last time she tried that. But wasn't getting shot at enough emotional stimulus for anyone. What if he never remembered her? could he fall in love with her again? She could try couldn't she, but he only remembered her last time, what if he already liked someone at the school?

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
When her eyes had turned to stare at him, Riley got the feeling that she wasn't really sure what they' do to him, he wasn't liking this, he didn't even understand why they where suddenly trying to kill him!

'Either kill you or take you back to the compound to finnish reprogramming you.' What did she mean by that!? He wasn't a machine! ..Was he? He quickly glanced down at the back of his hands and the pushed aside the idiotic thought and focused on her again. At least she was honest.. brutally honest, but honest none-the-less.

"That.. doesn't sound pleasent.." He replied rather quietly as he stared ahead of them once again, what could he have possibly done to cause the people she had said he once worked for to try and kill him?

"I-I know this is a bad time, but.." Riley began rather nervously as he focused back on Catherine's face, he wanted her to know how grateful he was.. incase.. incase something bad happens and one of them.. or both don't make it.

"..all of this, everything you're doing, it means so much, thank you." He didn't look at her, he stared stubbornly ahead, he hurt her, he didn't mean to but he held her hand very tighlt and it caused her to complaine. And there's the whole spying on her, scaring her, plus because of him a military group was bent on trying to kill or capture them.

"I'm sorry I've gotten you involved in something so dangerous, it's very brave of you, you're fighting so hard, being so strong.." Riley's words trailed off slowly, he wasn't doing anything, expect for causing her to be scared of him, or in tears. What right did he have to put all this stress and pressure on her? He wished he could take it all away.. if it got to bad, he will give himself up, he didn't want to, in fact the idea terrified him.. but he'd rather that then watch her die.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
'That.. doesn't sound pleasent.' Maybe ... perhaps she shouldn't have been so blunt, but she was scared, in pain and tired to bring brave, she just wanted her bed and to crawl away under the covers and sleep.

'all of this, everything you're doing, it means so much, thank you.' .... 'I'm sorry I've gotten you involved in something so dangerous, it's very brave of you, you're fighting so hard, being so strong...' She shrugged, there was no point him apologising, she'd known the danger before hand, she knew what the initiative were caperable of but she couldn't leave Riley there to be manipulated by them for their own means.

'It doesn't matter.' She said her eyes still on the now less bumpy road before her, hoping the tires wouldn't hit a jagged stone or rock and send the car spinning out of control. 'It's my job, your my friend.' .... your my lover she finnished mentally, 'I ...' She didn't want to say too much, perhaps Riley would be disgusted to learn he'd slept with her, she was a mutant she wasn't normal, he didn't even know her anymore. 'I had to help, I couldn't just leave you there.' Her eyes swung around to his and she actually managed to give him a little smile, and she gave it just to him and to him alone, she never wanted to leave him ... never. She had to hold onto him, he was the one person who saw something good in her, she'd been told she was no good for so long and here was someone who seemed only to see the good in her, he was the only person who had belived in her.

'I love you.' ...

'I want to be with you.' ...

She was so close to loosing him even now, because he couldn't remember her, she wondered if he'd ever remember, what if she never felt his arms around her again. She suddenly felt lost, the one thing in her life which had offered her some stability even when everything else around her seemed to be falling down was gone and she wasn't sure if she could stand on her own two feet properly without him.

'Tomorrow.. when we're back at the school .... Would you still want to be with me? .... Because I want to be with you.' She started slightly and her eyes flicked over to him suprise shining in their depths before she realised that it had been her own imagination talking, her own memory and not him, a flicker of dissapointment sped over her features before she turned her face away.

She heard the soft chink of her dog tags under the clothes she was wearing ... she wondered what he would think when he saw he had one of hers, what she she supposed to tell him then ... he'd want to know why he had one of her tags.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
everything seemed to move so quickly, his mind no longer seemed able to cope, all of a sudden he was inside the jeep, his hand still clutching his partners pistol.

"No" he whispered, johnson was dead, he didnt have to see a body to know that, he could no longer feel his presence in his mind, and the pain was near unbearable. to make things worse all he could hear was spike and cats voices growing louder in his head.

he was going to go mad, he knew what would happen if they got separated but somehow it hadnt seemed like it would ever happen, suddenly the gun in his hand seemed very inviting, he raised it to his head and pulled the trigger.

the gun clicked, it was empty, frantically he tried again, after it failing again he dropped the empty magazine to the floor and fumbled around in his pockets for another, ignoring the others in the car, it was as if they werent there at all. his hands shaking he dropped the other mag "bloody ell" he yelled desperately, bending down to pick it up

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
'It doesn't matter.' But it did matter, it always mattered, even in his state, he still knew how impart this was.. how few people would actually do this for someone.

'It's my job, you’re my friend.' And Riley was starting to think that was one of the most important things he'll even have in his life.. her friendship.

'I ...' Riley looked over towards her, he had been focusing on the road, half lost in his thoughts while he had been listening to her.

'I had to help, I couldn't just leave you there.' There was something about her smile that just made him feel better, he wondered what it must be like to be rescuing someone who didn't even remember her. He wanted to.. he really did, he hoped she understood that he wanted to remember her, she was so amazing he wanted to remember everything about her right now, she deserved that.

He was still looking at her when she turned her eyes towards him, but there was this odd look in her eyes, and then for some reason he was sure there was a flicker of disappointment over her pretty features. After she looked away from him, Riley struggled to remember something.. anything that he could remember, maybe if he remembered something she wouldn't had that look of disappointment any more.

"Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster. Your life will never be the same again." He fiddled with the map's edges for a moment, that's not what he was trying to remember, but he remembered a quote, he must have memorized it.. He was actually just thinking, beginning today, he was going to treat her with extra kindness and show her how grateful he really was for everything she was doing, even if she didn't think it was important.

"But that wasn't what I was trying to remember.." He gave a slightly anxious sigh as he shifted about in his seat, but then grinned partially as he looked over towards Catherine.

"So I must like reading books then?" It may be a small fact, but it was a fact about Riley Finn none-the-less and he would cherish it for the rest of his life. Just like he'd cherish Catherine's friendship forever, but before he could say anything further, there was a struggle in the back seat causing him to look back.

"bloody ell" Spike had been looking outside when he heard the clicks of the gun, when he turned to watch Nick he was in shock at seeing the agent trying to shoot himself. The vampire growled angrily and his hand grabbed hold of the agent’s neck, pinning him back against the door, maybe Spike did over react slightly, but he was upset with Nick.

"What the bloody hell you think you're doin' you stupid bloody git!?" Spike yelled angrily, his other hand picking up the magazine and handing it to Riley who was about to protest to Spike's abuse towards the other man. Riley frowned and dropped the ammo down by his feet, Spike was patting down Nick for other ammo or weapons, giving whatever he found to Riley who just annoyingly dropped it by his feet.

"O'course, when Spike wants'ta die, it's not good enough, but when you wonna die it's alright? Bloody hypocrites, that's what you lot are!" Spike effectively pinned the other man back with his supernaturally enhanced strength, his bright blue eyes glaring at him as if the agent was about to betray the vampire.

"You think you lot get to yell at me, put me down, tell me off, an then you do the exact same thing I was doing and think I won't react!?" It's probably the first time in Lost Angel's history that a vampire was trying to knock some sense into a genetically created suicidal agent trained and bred to be a Demon Hunter. But Spike wasn't exactly like most other vampire's, after all, how many where friends with Slayers?

"You think you're the only one t'lose someone important t'you? You're not! Happens every bleedin' day, someone's losin' someone, an' if you even THINK I'm goin' t'sit back an' let you release yaself from this existence, then ya're SADLY mistaken mate! Because if I can bloody find a reason to keep goin', then so can you, otherwise ya partner just gave'is bloody life to get you outta there for no bloody reason, how the hell you think that'd make'im feel?" Riley wasn't sure what exactly to say, he knew Spike was trying to help, even if he was being rough. While Spike was speaking, Riley looked over towards Catherine.. have either of them lost someone important? She was a little upset when he began asking about his parents.. maybe he didn't have any.. but then hadn't she mentioned they where in Iowa? She didn't say they where dead, so maybe he just didn't have a good relationship with them?

"Isn't you're mission to protect Catherine? Well I dunno if you've noticed mate, but we've got a bloody killer toaster after this lot. You give up on'er like'is, then you're failin' that mission! Isn't that what you lot live for, you're missions?" When Spike had finished, Riley realized that in a sense he has lost everyone he's ever known, even Catherine, even if she was right here, he's still lost her because he can't remember her. He turned around, looking ahead at the road, there was a turn off coming up, Riley hand pointing to the right in order to get her onto the right road.

"...Thank you for being here for me, it does matter.. to me it matters." He folded the map, but in a way that still enabled him to see the route they where taking, yet making the map smaller and easier for him to hold. He was so tired now that he wasn't leaping from one vehicle to another and being all distracted, he wondered what he had done to make him feel as if he had not been sleeping well. Maybe the last few days where hard for him and Catherine? His eyes returned to watching her for a moment, but then dropped back down to the map. He felt addicted to her presence now, the thought of her walking off again made him very uncomfortable, but if they where friends and if she'd do all this for him then she can't leave him.. can she?

..He wasn't afraid of dying, but he was afraid of losing her? That just didn't seem normal, but he had to try, he had to keep focus and be strong, if not for himself then for her. She was struggling so hard to help him and he wanted to at least remember her, anything about her.. he didn't even know her last name.. It must be hard for her, so hard to be with someone she's fighting so stubbornly to protect and save and he can't even remember her last name.

Riley (about Catherine): ...I have the feeling she's trying to tell me something..
every single time she looks at me.. she's trying to speak to me.. and I can't hear her.

he strugled againsty the vampires strength, it was useless, he was too weak at the moment "you dont get it do you" he hissed, "i'm dying anyway.. was just going to speed the process.. stop the madness" his hands let go of spikes arm and slowly moved behind his back "finding a reason would be useless, without him i go insane, thats how they made it, thats how it is" his voice was angry, the voices in his head were growing steadily louder, it was becoming increasingly hard to concentrate on his own thoughts

"its the only way to make them shut up" he pulled the door handle, the door opened behind him and he began to fall but the vampires hand was still round his neck "let go spike" he yelled, slipping his cross from his pocket then thrusting it towards spike

'Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster. Your life will never be the same again.' Cat looked over at him wondering where that speech had come from and why he'd chosen to speak it out loud.

'So I must like reading books then?' Cat still looking out of the front window nodded then turned slightly to face him, her eyes still flicking onto the road every few seconds to correct the hummer which seemed to be trying to drift off to one side.

'I guess you do ....' She paused as she negotiated the hummer around a tight turn in the road. 'You went to an achademy ... and, and your a psychology major, you're really smart Riley.' She said giving him another few snippits of information that she knew about him. Her rather jeolous eyes looked off into the densely packed trees on either side of the road he'd already said she didn't look like the student type but she would have liked to be as clever as Riley, she wouldn't have liked to come down here at night, it was errie enough during the day. You couldn't see far through the trees, they grew so closley together and the undergrowth was so thick, it made you think anything could be sitting just out of your line of view watching you. She shook herself slightly, she was being stupid.

'What the bloody hell you think you're doin' you stupid bloody git!?' Cat's eyes flicked to the rear view mirror, hearing the click of the gun.

'You think you're the only one t'lose someone important t'you? You're not! Happens every bleedin' day, someone's losin' someone.' She looked away trying to ignore the pair of them, trying to pretend that they didn't exist, she didn't want to talk about people loosing people they were close to. She looked down at her hands rather hard then away out of the window so no one could see her face.

'He can't take us away from you unless you let him Catherine, you have to fight for this, fight for us, fight so we can have you. Don't let him take away the love your parents had for you and the love you still have for them...don't let him take that away.' That might be true but it hadn't stopped them taking him away from her, it hurt so much just to look at him and not to see any sign of recignition. She blinked hard and deliberatley kept her face turned away from Riley and the others.

'Thank you for being here for me, it does matter.. to me it matters.' She didn't have time to react before she heard the sound of the jeep door opening and a yell of pain from Spike. She jammed on the breaks as hard as possible.

'Stop it you two! Stop it, how are we meant to get Riley out of here if you two won't stop yelling.' Cat was upset now too, she wanted someone here who was older than her, someone who could give her orders, she didn't like taking charge, she was trying but everything seemed to be falling appart around her and she didn't know how to stop it.

Her eyes flicked over to Riley as if asking him for help, he was her team leader, he was meant to tell her what to do. She realised just then, while she was sitting in that car with the sound of Spike adn Thompson still arguing in the back, in the middle of a wood while they were being persued by the initiative that .... she loved him. Her eyes just seemed to stare at him with a type of longing, she loved him and she was too late to tell him, he was gone to be replaced by this man who didn't seem to know who she was. She'd missed her only chance to tell him how she felt, she wanted to spend forever with him but he didn't even know her name.

She seemed to tear her eyes away from him, looking down at the steering wheel, biting down very hard upon her bottom lip, her eyes closing for a breif second. She wanted to be in his arms so much, she wanted him to hold onto her and never let her go, but she couldn't tell him, not now.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
"you dont get it do you? ... i'm dying anyway.. was just going to speed the process.. stop the madness" Oh, and this idiot thinks he has the right to go on about madness in front of SPIKE!? The bleach blonde vampire just growled more angrily at Nick's stupidity, still refusing to let go of the other worldly agent.

"its the only way to make them shut up" The door opened, Spike panicked as more sunlight flooded in, painfully Spike stubbornly clang to the man, refusing to let him just slip away and die.

"let go spike" As if the sunlight wasn't bad enough, Thompson shoved a sacred cross towards Spike, the added pain only caused him to yell out and gasp before gritting his teeth and remaining clamped onto Thompson. He's suffered more pain that this, he can handle it, he can't just let someone die in front of him.. he can't, he can't watch any more deaths.

'Stop it you two! Stop it, how are we meant to get Riley out of here if you two won't stop yelling.' One of Spike's hands grabbed hold of the cross, growling painfuly as it seered the inside of his palm. He yanked the cross from Nick's grip and threw it outside the opened door, he clenched his fist tightly closed for a moment before grabbing Nick and angrily pulling him back into the car, slamming the door closed and pinning Nick down to the seat.

"Bollocks! You're not killin' yaself coz ya goin' insane, it's coz you're scared o'it! Everyone in'is bloody vehicle know's what I am, know's what I want, an' know's what I've been through! I've been insane a whole lot longer'en all your lives put together, you think you'ave the right to tell me NOW because it's YOU who's gonna be goin' insane, then that's alright for you to die? Where as for me it's terrible thing to do, slap in the face for all'em bloody people, well no one cares you're 'bout to slap me in the bloody face you bleedin' git!" While Spike yelled, sounding almost insulted at the man's request to be allowed to just end his life, Riley looked over towards Catherine, wondering what to do.. She was so upset, and she wasn't more then upset, she looked lost, lost in a situation she wasn't sure how to handle.

He felt suddenly useless again, he wanted to look away but she was staring at him and part of him felt if he looked away he'd be letting her down some how. He had the feeling she's trying to tell him something.. every single time she looks at him now.. she's trying to speak to him.. and he can't hear her. He let her down some how, her eyes tore away, he didn't understand, what was wrong? Her eyes closed and he looked away, trying to ignore Spike's voice in the back as he stared at the sceneray.. unlike what he was used to, the trees where still as the jeep remained motionless on the spot..

"Every step o'this way I've wanted to give up, but someone told me not to let something get in the way o'what you want, you think I've come'is far to just turn a bloodly blind eye, done enough o'at, I'm tired o'it, tired o'seeing deaths. You think givin' up is going to stop the pain?" He scoffed, but Riley still tried to ignore him, looking over towards Catherine with wishful eyes.. he realy wished he could help her, he wished he could be stronger for her.. he wished he could do something to make this all better. What good was being smart? He never found anything important about it, sure over the next few days he'll realize he can do things that'll impress even him, but that meant nothing if he had no one to share it with.. if he no use of it.. or if it didn't help those around him. And right now his brain wasn't at all helping her, so what good was it for him to be smart if it doesn't help her?

"You think it all ends after death? Hello? Are we all on the bloody same page, I am dead, not restin' in peace, am I? Take advice from someone who's been down the road you're startin' on.. You want t'survive, you want t'get somethin' that you've lost or you're about to lose, then you bloody well fight for the damn thing." He growled almost demandingly as he let go of Nick, but would that work? Riley had to wonder.. if he fought really hard.. would he be able to remember.. he wasn't sure..

"You'ave to fight for you're sanity like the rest o'us.. like ya friend fought for you're life, like Ro' fought for mine, like the Slayers are about to fight for ours.. like I'm gonna fight for a soul, an' like he's gonna fight for his past." Spike looked down at his hand, he felt like Garnet and Storm and even a touch of Rogue the untouchable Mutant.. well.. he could touch her.. Spike looked towards Riley who had stared back at him, Riley would fight, Riley would fight to remember.. His hand reached over and gently rested on her shoulder, his eyes quietly looking for hers, he gave a soft smile of assurence before slowly pulling his hand away. He wished he knew what else to say, but he had no idea..

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
Catherine felt his hand upon her shoulder, it hurt, even that simple touch seemed to hurt her, he didn't mean it, phsyically it made her skin shiver slightly but it tore into her heart. Her eyes flew to his for a moment catching sight of his smile before she dropped her eyes from his again to stare blankly at the steering wheel in front of her.

His hand slipped off, her shoulder to leave her feeling more cold and empty than before .... well she wasn't cold and empty exactly, she was full of alot of feelings she didn't think it was possible to feel, but she coudln't tell him then. The last thing he needed was to hear that the stranger next to him loved him and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

'They ... you had a chip in your head and it started malfunctioning and they said you would die if they didn't replace it, but you'd been causing them problems so they decided to whipe your memory at the same time.' The words seemed to tumble unbidden from her lips before she had time to think them through, but he'd asked why his head hurt before.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
It was as if at first she had spoken another language, he had a half smile still on his face that seemed to refuse to face, until his eyes dropped.. his hand reaching for the side of his head. Did that mean at a flick of a switch someone could make him feel that terrible pain? His hand slipped from his head and covered his mouth as he looked back up at her, the words only slowly sinking in.

"Oh.." He wanted to say more, he wanted to panic, he really did, starting panicking and glancing around and asking if there was some way of getting the implant out, what it did, what it would to do, what would happen if it started malfunctioning again?

"...Oh." He repeated shifting in his seat, his hand leaving his lips and resting on his thighs uncomfortably, his vice suddenly very quiet.

"...That explains the headache.." He almost whispered under his breath, staring blankly at the cracked dashboard, he blinked rather dazed as the words still seemed to be foggy in his memory, maybe he misheard it... He looked back slowly towards Catherine, watching her.. waiting for her to smile and say she just had a terrible sense of humour.

"I have faith in you Catherine, I trust you, respect you, and believe in you, I have the feeling there's a lot of things that I'm not going to understand." He spoke very carefully now, for some reason these words flowed so easily from his lips, he looked away, staring back down at his hands.

"I want to tell you none of this is scaring me.. but it'll be a lie, how many times has this happened.. and if I remembered once.. could I remember again? I want to remember.. it's so empty Catherine, I try and think of people who might be important to me and all I can think of are blank faces, you, Spike and the suicidal guy in the back.." He became very quiet for a moment, his voice low even though the other two could have still easily heard him.

"I've lost something.. maybe I left it back in that base.. it's left something so empty and.. I'm afraid to ask what I've lost.. I've lost so much, and I want it all back." He stared at the map that was on his lap, picking it up and reading the roads as if seeing it for the first time.. he wanted to pretened he was Riley Finn again.. that maybe they where all out camping.. they where lost.. and they needed Riley Finn to help find a way home.. There was no biker after them, there wasn't a vampire in the jeep, they where all normal people, with normal lives.. without any implants inside their heads or anything like that.. would he ever be able to pretened something like that? He wished he could pretened to have a normal life.. but he knew.. he'll nevre be normal..

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
'I have faith in you Catherine, I trust you, respect you, and believe in you, I have the feeling there's a lot of things that I'm not going to understand.' Would he understand if she kissed him? would he understand if she just wrapped her arms around his chest and never let go? He belived in her ... that was something at least, someone belived in her even if she found it heard to do so herself.

' want to tell you none of this is scaring me.. but it'll be a lie, how many times has this happened.. and if I remembered once.. could I remember again? I want to remember.. it's so empty Catherine, I try and think of people who might be important to me and all I can think of are blank faces, you, Spike and the suicidal guy in the back..'

'Don't worry I'm sure it will all come back, it just needs time.' She realised she was saying this more to comfort herself than him. His memory hadn't taken too long to be restored last time, but would it be the case this time.

'I've lost something.. maybe I left it back in that base.. it's left something so empty and.. I'm afraid to ask what I've lost.. I've lost so much, and I want it all back.' Was he talking about her? he'd lost her back there, but then wasn't she here right now beside him, so he hadn't really lost her had he? Perhaps he wasn't talking about her at all. She wished she'd not said anything about his chip, she'd rather not have seen the look on his face when she'd said that, she decided she wasn't going to mention his other chip.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
Pulling his bright hazel eyes away from the map and looking towards Catherine, but he wasn't sure what to say.. how much time would it take? His gaze dropped back down to the map, he wanted the jeep to be moving, but Spike and the other agent seemed to be still on about something, Riley was sure that other guy was going to leave them.. it's how it sounded anyway. His stomach felt sore, maybe he was getting hungry again, he did feel like something, wait, maybe he was thirsty, he stared at the trees ahead of them in the distance.

He placed the map down on the seat beside him, looking bakc over towards Catherine and then down at the bag of food, he really didn't have the will to eat right now.. It was very uncomfortable, he hewanted the jeep to start moving again, he was tired and he wanted to get away from all this stress.

"Catherine, how long till we get to that school?" His hand ran over the hard chest armour he wore, glancing down at it after a moment before resting his head back against the seat. He just wanted this to all end.. he was exhausted and he wanted to just sit down and have time to think about things. And the last thing he wanted to say to Catherine right now was that he was starting to feel slightly unwell, it wasn't too bad, probably from all the emotions and the bumpy ride before..

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
She shook her head slowly, her eyes looking out at the forest around them, then nervously in the rear view mirrior, she couldn't risk anymore time being wasted, not when they were being chased by the initiative. She saw Spike had managed to get the door shut and she quickly pressed the lock on her door down, automatically locking all the other ones, sealing the four of them in the car. The only other way out would have been to break the thick, bullet proof glass.

Cat put her foot down again sending the jeep speeding on down the road again, leaving the silver cross at the side of the road in the mud. After a few mintues she came to the t-junction onto a larger road, she took the direction Riley indicated, constantly checking her rear view mirror for any motorbike shapes.

'Catherine, how long till we get to that school?' Cat shook her head, she didn't know how long they had been driving, an hour, an hour and a half perhaps ... but then she could have been wrong, it seemed like a lifetime. But she was drivning so fast maybe they'd gone further than she thought.

'I'm sorry Riley I don't know.' She had a sudden thought and streatched her arm over flipping down the mirror which was on the flap that would shield his eyes from the sun had it been the middle of summer. She'd suddenly though that he wouldn't know what he looked like since he hadn't looked into a mirror yet

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
He tried hard to hide his disappointment, but then watched as she pulled down the flap that shades the eyes from the sunlight. He didn't understand why she was doing that, his eyes following her hand back to the wheel before looking up at the mirror in the flap.. There was someone staring back at him, his hand touched his cheek, then reached for the mirror, was that really him? He didn't even remember what he looked like!? His hand run through his hair before returning to his cheeks, his face was so alien, this wasn't him; he'd remember what he'd look like.. he had to remember that..

Spike watched almost with jealously as Riley studied his face, he didn't have a reflection so when he had seen this worlds Spike it was hard to believe he had changed in appearance so much. And now he lost that, so he was without a reflection and without a twin, Riley was now studying his eyes, the windows to his soul.. maybe if he looked hard enough he could see all his memories in his eyes.

"I can't believe.." He began but then once again let his fingers drag down his cheeks as if he was wearing some sort of mask that was hiding his true face.

Riley (about Catherine): ...I have the feeling she's trying to tell me something..
every single time she looks at me.. she's trying to speak to me.. and I can't hear her.

Re: Good bye to Everything we knew - The Escape
She was watching him out of the corner of her eye, using him examining his face as an excuse for her to look at him. She remembered him, she could remember every curve on his face, she could still remember what he tasted like, she still had his scent over her. The fingers of her left hand absent mindedly brushed over the lower part of her stomach, rubbing against her skin aware that her muscles were still a little stiff.

"I can't believe.." She tilted her head slightly, putting both hands back on the steering wheel, not even noticing she'd moved one off before a moment ago.

'What can't you belive?' She asked with curiosity, hadn't he said no one ever wanted to get to know him, well she was going, she was going to help him remember and at the same time she was going to find out everything there was to this man in front of her. And one day, maybe not in the near future .... one day she would stand in front of him and tell him she loved him, even if he never remembered her, or what had happened between the two of them.

'Dawn, Lisa and Anglea will be glad to see you again.' She said hoping to jog his memory, he'd known them longer than her perhaps their names might help. Her eyes lingered on his face waiting hopefully for a flicker of recognition in the hazel depths of his eyes.
