The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
ooc: Riley had been babysitting Haley for the past few days so he'd been mostly cooped up entertaining the almost two year old, and not to mention the 'team training' on the weekend. Which meant he was extremely persistant with anyone who asked him out somewhere that he wanted to go riding with Guinea along the beach to relax. He didn't realize people were trying to lure him out to places in order to celebrate his birthday, something Riley hasn't even realized since he tended to ignore his birthdays in the Initiative.

Everyone wanted to talk with him about it but Forrest and Graham insisted it was a bad idea, last time they suggested a party Riley disappeared for a week, having requested a special assignment away from the base and any surprise parties his friends might spring on him. Besides he had a game tomorrow, no point in everyone getting worked up and exhausted the day before their game.

It was about noon, and it was a surprisingly lovely day, the sun was bright and the sky was clear, though he could see rain clouds off in the distance the beach seemed uneffected. Riley had no idea that there was a gathering of people, including his entire basket ball team and cheerleading squad all waiting for him further on. Guinea walked proudly along the beach, taking delight in the fine seemingly summer day, she had moved into the waters edge and Riley was enjoying the splashing of the pleasent water, an oddly comfortable temperature for this time of year.

When Riley glanced up from the sparkling waters surface he saw much to both his surprise and delight, Catherine hovering further ahead. She seemed to be looking towards him, what if she was here with someone else? It was a perfect day, but he had told her that he was planning on riding her horse along the beach.. wait.. what if she was waiting for him? There was no one else in sight, and Riley made double sure by glancing around once again before looking back towards her.

Any thought of this being a set up for a surprise part was non-existant, after all, he had a horse with him, he didn't think someone would come all the way to the beach just to take Guinea back to the stables for him. Hopping down off the horse as they approached Catherine, Riley had a happy look about him now that she was there, especially since part of him was hoping she was there waiting for him.

"Hey Catherine.. this is a surprise." There was a slightly amused expression on him, his eyes glancing about for a short scan of the area once again before settling on her. He's been going over things in his mind recently, about how to try help her fall in love with him again, he knew it wasn't fair on her since she had kept leaving him the last few times they were together, but this were different now, they hadn't spent so much time together as they had the past two months. And they did normal things, as well as what consisted as 'normal' for the X-men, but they spent more time together in the past months while they were apart then days they had spent together while going out with each other.

It was getting so hard to accept she didn't feel anything for him, he didn't want to believe it, it didn't seem fair, every time they stood alone like this he had just the strongest urges to lean forward and kiss her.

"What are you doing out here?" He wanted so badly for her to say that she was waiting for him, he's heart would flip from the joy that she was out here in the middle of an empty beach waiting for him to appear.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
She'd been waiting for about ten minutes before she saw the now familiar shape of Guinea in the distance. There was the usual tremble of excitement that ran through her as she thought that Riley would be here in a few minutes. Cat had been sitting down on a fallen log, her toes sunk into the unusually warm sand. Dawn had cast a spell over the area so the temperature was more that of a sunny warm day. As she saw him come into view she stood up, brushing the sand off her sandles. They were a stone colour with a string of beads that her middle toe went between to hold her foot in place.

She shaded her eyes with one hand, staring down the beach at him and Guinea as they slowly made their way towards her. She couldn't really see him very well because the sun was in her eyes and she couldn't tell the moment he saw her. She could see him change direction however, bringing the mare out of the sea and over towards her.

Cat was dressed in denim jeans that had the bottoms folled up to about her mid thigh and a small white t-@#%$. Under what she was wearing was her bikini but you couldn't tell she had it on from just looking at her. All she had to do then they got to the party was to throw her clothes off. She usually wore a pair of denim jeans rather than the bikini bottoms but today she was going to wear the proper bottoms for the bikini. It was more for the fact thats he wanted to impress Riley however than any constrauctive reason. She wanted him back and the easiest way for her to attract him to her was by showing off her body.

"Hey Catherine.. this is a surprise." He sounded glad to see her and he was smiling, she took both those things as good signs. She was almost bursting with excitment however, but she'd been sent out to keep him from coming around the point of the beach and seeing what they'd all organised because they weren't quite ready yet. There were loads of people there however, from the school, parts of his family, the baseball team and cheerleaders. If he'd had no idea how popular he was he would do soon. She'd never seen so many presents in her life or cards, she'd been a little anxious that her gift might get lost amongst all the others or loose the tag that went with it.

"What are you doing out here?"She streatched her hand out towards Guinea, letting the mares smooth soft muzzle brush over her hand. She was getting better around the mare, though she wasn't overly confident, she'd made a lot of progress.

'Walking.' She tried to make it sound as if this was the type of thing she did every day. 'I was hoping maybe the sea would be good for surfing but it's too sheltered here.' Her face turned to look out over the sea. She'd been told to dely him for about ten minutes. They were bulding a huge bonfire so they could see when it came to evening.

------------

'Walking.' Well she definitely picked the best day for a walk at the beach, it was amazing the weather seemed so perfect. 'I was hoping maybe the sea would be good for surfing but it's too sheltered here.' Riley was lucky Graham brought him a spare set of beach clothes since he was in jeans, boots and darker shade of blue jumper over his long sleeved white shirt, and he even had his singlet underneath that, needless to say he was feeling the heat very well.

There was a slightly jealous streak in the back of his mind that he didn't really notice much, but it was probably easy for anyone watching him to tell he wanted Catherine's attention focused on him and not the horse. He had taken a step closer to her, he wished he ddn't have Guinea at the moment, she was a lovely horse but right now he wouldn't mind having his hands free so he could spend time with Catherine.

"This is my first time along the beach during the day, and you just happen to be walking here as well?" There was a thoughtful look as he added with the hint of a cheeky tone, "I should come by during the day more often." It was hard not to wonder why on such a perfect day the beach seemed empty. There was an excited feel inside of him, she appeared as if she was here to spend time at the beach on her own, but then again she hadn't seemed to be doing all that much at all until he arrived, maybe she was waiting for him!

"How long are you going to be here?" There was a hopeful little look as he glanced at the water, he has never been in the sea before, while sitting on Guinea before was his first time, and that hardly counts. He has learned so many things about the sea and knew how dangerous it was, and up in Iowa they didn't live anywhere near a beach and they ere always so busy with the farm, Riley rarely ever even swam except for special training sessions in the Initiative.

"Maybe I can get Guinea home and get back here before you leave, if you wanted company I mean.. you're not here with anyone are you?" The last part sounded a little paranoid as he glanced about again, he didn't want her to be here with anyone, but what if she was, and she was waiting for him, and he went off to get something, like drinks, or maybe she really did go for a walk, but was about to head back to where she was set up with her date? He'd been panicking about her going on dates more recently since half his team wanted to ask her out and would ask him to ask her out for them. If he asked her out it would be for his own sake and not for any of theirs!! They'd probably only sleep with her once and then leave her anyway, thoughts like that still caused an icky feeling inside, he couldn't help but still consider her as 'his', it was hard not to when she was his first and he was hers.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
"This is my first time along the beach during the day, and you just happen to be walking here as well?" There was a nod of her head in agreement of what he was saying as if she often randomly walked along the beach where in reality it was the first time she'd been to this particular beach before. She let her hand run over Guinea’s smooth muzzle. She’d started handling the mare and riding her only little time ago and she’d only really approach the mare when Riley was around. Cat was still happy however just to plod around on the mare who trailed along willingly after Riley who always kept a lead rope on her in case she did try anything. Guinea moved her nose over to Riley’s back, sniffing at his shoulder and nudging him gently.

"I should come by during the day more often." There was a little blush in her cheeks as she wished she could believe that he meant that in a way that was more than friendly. It was so horrible because some of the cheerleaders liked him and they’d prattle on about him to her, asking things that he liked and more than one had asked her what he wanted for his birthday. She’d have to sit there and endure the torture of them talking like that about him while all the while wishing for exactly the same thing as they were. They seemed to find the fact that she’d dumped him reassuring, if she’d dumped him then it must mean that she didn’t want him anymore so he was free game for anyone else.

"How long are you going to be here?" She tried not to let her eyes slide over towards the direction of the beach that the party was in, but it was hard when she knew the surprise that was waiting just about the corner for him. She shrugged, why did he have to ask so many questions? "Maybe I can get Guinea home and get back here before you leave, if you wanted company I mean.. you're not here with anyone are you?" His eyes looked up and down the beach. She wondered if he’d guessed they were all up to something, it was his birthday after all and she’d probably be more than a little suspicious if she met him like this on her birthday.

‘Maybe I can walk with you?’ She looked over at him, one of her flip flops scuffing at the ground as she blushed slightly, hoping he’d say yes. She felt horribly nervous inside, she just needed to keep him entertained for a couple of minutes and then she could take him around the point and everything would be ready. Cat hoped he’d like the party, they had coolers full of ice which had beer in them and other drinks and lights for when it started getting dark and everyone was wearing flowers in their hair and around their necks. Some of the guys on the team had even got straw hats and a couple were wandering around with coconuts over their chests.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
'Maybe I can walk with you?' That was an odd non-responsive answer to his question, did that mean she was here with someone, or was that a question asking if she could walk back to the school with him? He had completely fogotten the importance of today and so he was more focused on his paranoid thoughts struggling to decide if he was just wishful thinking or if what he was hoping was true.

"You're most welcomed to walk with me Catherine," He replied rather happily deciding that he was going to go on the leap of faith that she was here to spend time with him, it definitly did have a fishiness about this situation.. It has been really hard lately since he's started feeling so deprived and so longing towards being with her again, sometimes he'd just lay on his bed staring across at the door waiting for her to knock and call his name. Sometimes he thought he didn't even care if she wasn't in love with him, he just wanted to be with her, he wanted her so desperately that he thought for a moment it didn't matter if she didn't love him, if she'd just help him between dates, be with him when she wasn't with anyone else. Didn't she feel the need to be with someone like he felt it? It wasn't fair, what if she didn't feel so desperate? What if she did but she was sleeping with other people just behind Riley's back since she probably figured he'd get upset if he knew about it.

But those moments would fade, painfull slow, but eventually they would, and Riley would know that he was glade she wasn't around, that he was locked away on his own in his empty room so that he wouldn't say or do anything stupid with her.

"Can you hold Guinea for a moment, I'm boiling." Riley handed Catherine the mares reins and moved over to her other side so he wasn't standing between them. It was highly suspicious that the weather seemed so amazingly perfect for the beach when it was raining back at the school, and usually Riley would have questioned it, but right now his mind and body were highly Catherine orientated.

The young man pulled his jumper up over his head, the singlet and shirt beneath were pulled up as well to reveal his well muscular stomach, his muscles seeming more defined at the moment while he was partially streaching during removing his top. Once it was off he draped it over Guinea's saddled while tugging his shirts down, his hands moving to unbutton the shirt so he could take the long sleeved top off as well and just wear the sleeveless singlet beneath.

"What's it like to swim in the sea water?" He always had face masks on in the large pools in the initiative designed for underwater training, so even if the water was salty or fresh his mask always protected him from being able to tell the difference. He was right in front of Catherine, walking backwards slowly so she wouldn't walk into him, eventually able to remove the shirt from his broad shoulders and place it safely on the saddle with his top, tieing the sleeves to the saddled so they didn't fall off.

He stopped and reached for the reigns she was holding, still standing in front of her and now more purposfully blocking her path, allowing his fingers to brush against her hand slowly while taking it back. He really wanted her to say something, anything, say she liked having him around, that she wished they were still together, anything that might make him feel he was allowed to just lean forward and feel what it's like to kiss her and hold her again, so he knows he isn't hoping for something that she still doesn't want.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
"You're most welcomed to walk with me Catherine,"There was a happy smile on her face as she heard his answer, she wanted to be with him for a little. She didn't think she'd get a chance to be alone with him for the rest of the day since everyone would be clustered around because it was his party. It was all so akward though because she didn't know quite what to say to him, they were good friends now but she couldn't help but want more and it often made her nervous around him.

"Can you hold Guinea for a moment, I'm boiling." She took hold of the mares reigns, sneaking a peek at Riley as he tugged his top over his head. There was a slight blush that crept over her cheeks as she looked at his muscular body, remembering what it was like to be able to hold him and rest her head against his chest and the feeling she got when he put his arms around her. He pulled his tops down so his body was lost from view to her. Guinea nudged her slightly, but she ignored the mare, more concerned with watching Riley unbutton his shirt and pull if off, exposing his arms to the sunlight. She blushed slightly more, looking away to compose herself while Riley tied the clothes he'd removed onto the horse's saddle.

"What's it like to swim in the sea water?" She made a little clicking sound with her tounge and guided Guinea forwards slowly as Riley had started walking backwards. The mare obliged her, though they had to halt a moment later when Riley stopped and reached out for the reins. She looked a little flustered as his hand brushed over hers as he took the reins from her, she looked away hoping he hadn't noticed.

'It's nice, I love swimming in the sea ... you have to be careful though of undertows and currents.' She was fiddling with the end of one curl of her hair as she spoke, twisting it around in her fingers and looking a little uncomfortable at being alone with him like this. She wondered what he'd say if she just reached over and kissed him, perhaps he'd get mad though.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
'It's nice, I love swimming in the sea ... you have to be careful though of undertows and currents.' Then maybe he could coax her into swimming with him, that would be fun, he pouted inwardly though at the thought of Guinea, he couldn't just let her roam the beach. Riley's haze gazel dropped down to her t-shirt, staring at her shoulder and resisting the urge to look anywhere else.

"But," His hand listed to touch her white top, letting his fingertips rest down against her shoulder feel the fabric, "Do you swim like this? Won't the material become heavy?" He knew people wore swimmers in the pools, the girls in the Initiative usually wore protective gear which was similar to a scuba diving suit only much easier to wear, the fabric was more agile and flexible and three times as strong and able to store a perfect amount of warmth. It was very sunny at the beach and the water seemed cold so he assumed the girls and guys wore shirts over their water gear so that they don't get burned or too cold. Riley hardly cared about the material becoming heavy though, it was only an excuse in order for him to have any sort of physical contact with her.

"Will it be bad for your hair if we went swimming later?" The question was directed towards her curls, he didn't want to ask her to go swimming and then have the water straighten out her hair and have her be a little upset about the style being ruined, he had no idea what she was doing to curl it.

"Catherine?" There was a hesitating little pause before he continued, pulling his hand away from her and blushed faintly at the fact he had allowed it to linger there for so long, "Will you have dinner with me again? Tonight?" He had asked her to eat with him on a few occasions, in the past two months. He always sounded so keen and hopeful when he asked her, every time they were alone he just wanted to ask her if she still felt anything for him, but he always too scared because if she said no then she might not spend as much time with him if she knew he was still feeling so strongly towards her, she probably expected him to move on by now.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
"But," More than a little nervously her eyes followed the path of his hand as it moved towards her shoulder. She let herself take a shakey breath as his fingers touched her t-shirt, he was so close she could smell that warm comforting Riley smell she loved so much. It made her want to bury her face in his shoulder and hold onto him, her body swayed forwards a little so she was pressing against his fingers. "Do you swim like this? Won't the material become heavy?" She struggled to concentrate on what he was saying and not on how he was making her feel. For a moment she looked almost confused as she tried to work out what he'd said to her.

'Oh ... it won't be that bad.' She said with an air of confidence, Jon and Brad had thrown her in the Sea fully clothed often enough for her to not be bothered by being dressed. She was sure some of the cheerleaders would end up being dragged into the ocean by the basketball players. At least Cat was fast enough to get away from then, though it was probable if it was Riley doing the chasing she'd let him catch her. She wouldn't mind him throwing her in the sea.

"Will it be bad for your hair if we went swimming later?" She was still painfully aware that Riley's hand was on her shoulder. She wasn’t sure for a second what he was going on about, but then she realised it was probably the fact that the curls would come out of her hair. It would be alright though, because she’d had her hair permed so that it went back into the curls again once it had dried. She could use straighteners if she had any though to straighten her hair again. There was a little sense of loss as he moved his hand off her shoulder again.

"Will you have dinner with me again? Tonight?" She blushed slightly at the idea and then nodded. She felt bad and regretful that she wouldn’t actually be having dinner with him … they were often awkward affairs anyway but they’d be here so she wouldn’t be able to have dinner with him. For a moment she wished they weren’t having the beach party … she could have spent time with him then.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
ooc: Mum changed plans, as usual, now I'm not only going Friday night to the beach, she's having me stay over at that strange woman's house :( But she said I will be back saterday night..
----------------

There was a nod of her head, this night would be different, this night he was going to make something lovely and they'll drink something.. he'll get wine, or something, anything! They'll eat and drink and relax and tonight will be the night he talks with her about their relationship, it was a terrifying thought since it would either mean they get back together or Catherine throws wine in his face and storms off never to talk with him again.

There was still a tingle running through his fingers that had been touching Catherine, her warmth lingering on more noticably then the heat of the warm enchanted day. He wanted to hold her, he wondered what her hair smelt like today, different shampoos left different scents and some were more alluring then others but he enjoyed each and every moment he was allowed to have her in his arms. It was strange being friends with her, previously he had been able to hold her and say things have her see him in the most humiliating of states and yet she was his girlfriend so it never mattered, with her he was allowed to say, and do and act in anyway he wanted. And although he was spending more time with her now, it always seemed so restricting, he never knew a friendship could be so painfully distant. He never minded keeping his distance with his other friends, but Catherine was always different, he always wanted to just throw himself at her.

"Great, I'll get something nice to cook," His voice was excited yet he was doing his best to keep it calm, giving a soft, tenderness sound to his voice, "..and maybe some wine to drink with it." There was a gentle smile playfully tugging at the corners of his lips, his whole body seemed to have moved forward just slightly enough to invade her personal space. He had gotten much better with buying things, he still felt intimidated but he didn't freeze on the spot any more, so he was able to shop on his own.. He still took about five times longer then any one else would usually take, but he was still improving none-the-less!

But before he could say or do anything further, Graham's signal for Catherine to bring Riley to the part came dartng down the beach side in a burst of energetic excitement. Katie's tail wagged delightedly as she bolted towards Riley, barking wildly for attention and causing the young man to look over Catherine's head at the black bundle of fur charging towards them.

"You brought Katie to the beach?" He seemed surprised that they let dogs on the beach, but then had that overly protective worried look he tended to get when he fussed over the young pup "..You let Katie off on her own?" The dog was spoiled every moment of the day around Riley, and it wasn't hard for others to tell he was being very 'fatherly' towards her, and always panicking when he was away from her for too long. He didn't like her being on her own and even when it was just for a few hours Riley tended to either drop her off at Catherine's if she wasn't busy or leave her with Angela and even Dawn has been stuck with doggie-sitting duties once or twice.

Katie was growing into a beautiful dog, but she was only a few months old so she was still pretty small, but that didn't seem to matter for Katie would dart about wildly for attention. She would try and get up the stairs to the dorm rooms and she was still too small to do it properly so she waddled and often stumbled about, it was so adorable and she was so sweet and playful that it was hard to be miserable around her!

Her white paws seemed to spread out in mid air slightly as if she was trying to leap off the ground with every step, giving her a humouress running style, her short ears flopping with each bounding jump. Riley crouched down as Katie got closer, his left hand still holding only Guinea so his arm was raised while he squatted to the ground. The small black bundle of joy had her tiny pink tounge seen between her teeth as she panted lightly, her tail wagging furiously and her nose quickly changing from snigging Catherine's leg to Riley's hand. It wasn't long at all until she rolled over, kicking her legs into the air as she too delight in the attention she was so used to, her bright brown eyes watching Riley's hand intently as her white feet struggled playfully and her tiny teeth trying to get hold of his fingers. Riley had gotten her a brown leather dog collar that had nice dark engravings all over it, like vines and small leaves. The front of her collar had a small metal plate on it with 'Katie Hall' and Riley's mobile number underneath the name and two small heart shaped fake diamonds on either side of her carved name. Dawn said she thought it was a big much and that she did't like it at all, Angela adored it and said she wanted to get one for Troy only there wasn't much point since his fluffy fur hide all the nice collars she got for him anyway and most of the people thought he was a girl already so she should probably steer clear of glittery things for him..

A moment later Riley was standing again but had Katie in his arm, the small puppy had her nose pressed against Riley's neck and her pink tongue was happily licking just under his chin before the foul taste of his aftershave hit her and she gave sneeze.

"Bless you," Riley always seemed to brighten up around Katie, sometimes he'd look so horribly down and then as soon as he sees Katie he instantly lights up. It was the same with when he saw Catherine, they were the only two girls in his life Angela had said teasingly the other week, and she was absolutely right he thought.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
"Great, I'll get something nice to cook," She wished the others would hurry up, she wasn't sure how much longer she could stall him for, though at the moment he seemed happy enough to talk about tonight. Part of her was wishing that she could have dinner with her tonight, she'd have wished it even more if she knew what he'd been planning to ask her. She didn't think that he might be a little dissapointed that he wouldn't get to have dinner with her, especially since he'd got all his courage together to actually bring up the subject of the both of them.

"..and maybe some wine to drink with it." The mere fact that he was smiling made her unconciously mirror his facial expression, one hand lifting to her curls to mess with the ends of her hair looking almost shy. She didn't often drink wine but she liked it, especially if it was a fruity one. The look on her face turned to one of slight nervousness as she realised that he'd stepped closer to her. Perhaps he wanted to kiss her, maybe she should just reach up and kiss him herself. Her head tilted a little, to expose her lips a little incase he wanted to kiss her, but the next second the moment was ruinned as Katie came bounding down the beach towards them barking at the top of her voice.

The puppy slowled down as she neared them, rushing from one to the other, looking excited untill she flopped onto her back to let Riley tickle her stomach. It was lucky the Guinea was used to the little back ball of hyperactivity being around or Katie might have frightened her. As it was Guinea was keeping a careful eye on the puppy. Cat watched as Riley scooped up the little puppy and began questioning her.

"..You let Katie off on her own?" Now Cat felt bad, as if she'd done something she wasn't supposed to have done. It wasn't her fault though, but she couldn't explain that to him. She wondered if Riley was mad with her or just dissapointed ... even worse he might be both. Her eyes moved over to look at the ground as Katie tried to lick Riley.

'Uh yeah sorry.' She looked away at the sea, before heading off towards the part of the beach Katie had appeared from looking rather more subdued than she had before. This wasn't going like it was supposed to have.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
'Uh yeah sorry.' Riley lifted his attention from Katie in his arm and looked at Catherine who was staring back at where Katie had appeared from. Now he felt bad, he knew he tended to fuss over her, but what if she got lost? What if he never saw her again? She was the only constant company he had now and he wouldn't deal well at all if she run off on him like people seemed to do with him.

"It's.. it's alright," He didn't mean to upset her, he wasn't sure what to say now, he didn't want to apologise, he had to wonder if his habit of apologising was getting annoying for her or anyone else. "I'm sorry, it's just I don't want her to leave and never return.." It took a moment after he spoke to actually realize he had said 'I'm sorry' even though he had been consiously trying to avoid apologising, and that caused him to looked about uncomfortably.

"Oh, hey, did you want to ride Guinea for a little bit along the beach maybe?" Hopefully that would cheer her up, he did't really figure out that she was riding mainly to see him so he was positive that she found riding highly enjoyable, it would be great if he could lighten her up so they are more relaxed by the time they start mucking about in the water if he was able to get back before the amazing day faded.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
"It's.. it's alright," But it wasn't, she could tell just from the tone of his voice that he wasn't alright with it, she should have told everyone to use something different as a signal that the party was ready. She didn't want him to be in a bad mood before he'd even got to the party, there was a sudden rush of fear that ran through her at the thought that perhaps he wouldn't like what they'd done for him. And even worse than that .... perhaps he wouldn't like her gift. Part of her wanted to dash back up the beach and scrabble through the pile of gifts so she could remove it before he saw it. But then he'd think that she hadn't got him anything at all ... she wasn't sure which one was worse.

"I'm sorry, it's just I don't want her to leave and never return.." She was so distracted she didn't even realise what he was saying might relate back to the fact that she'd run off and left him. She was chewing her bottom lip, looking away up the beach, she wanted her gift to be the best one he got. But there were so many presents there and some of them from people who knew him better than she had. It was possible none of them had spent so long fussing over what to get him and mooching around from shop to shop, discarding one thing after another.

"Oh, hey, did you want to ride Guinea for a little bit along the beach maybe?" There was a quick little shake of her head as she looked back at Riley. He didn't know but there was a whole party full of people down the shore and the last thing she wanted was for Guinea to get spooked by them and run off with her.

'Uhhhh do you wanna walk for a bit?' She'd already started walking however, not giving him much of a chance to object. She bent down as she walked and removed her flipflops, dangling them from one hand as she walked.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game

With a shake of her head Catherine glanced back at Riley, the thought of riding Guinea didn't seem to sit too well with her at all, which he found a little odd. Maybe she might change her mind now, maybe she wouldn't want dinner with him, she'll come up with some excuse or just say she doesn't feel up to it, he should have just kept quiet instead of worrying and ruining everything!

'Uhhhh do you wanna walk for a bit?' Riley glanced at Katie and then at Guinea, wondering if it might be a better idea to get the animal's home first. But Catherine was already walking ahead, he was going to call out his suggestion in hopes of changing her mind only he became highly distracted as she bent down to remove her footwear. The hazel gaze of her ex-boyfriend seemed to become glued on her body, his lips parted slightly before closing again, he wanted so badly to move closer and have the palm of his hand run along her back, slip beneath her top and feel the warmth of her skin once again..

When Catherine stood up he started following obediently after her, letting his eyes savor the moment where he could watch her again without her or anyone else noticing. Well he thought no one ever noticed, but it was hard for some people that were talking with Riley not to notice him looking at Catherine since he seemed to zoom out of focus and simply stare at his ex-girlfriend, Angela had to poke him on a few occasions since he kept ignoring what she was saying.

Picking up his pace slightly, Riley made his way to Catherine's side, guiding Guinea as best as he could with one hand and holding Katie in his other. The small puppy's tiny tail kept wagging fiercely and her nose was reaching out desperately to touch Catherine's arm, her small pink tongue flicking out but not quite reaching the agility mutant. Before they came too close to the party area, three people emerged, two on horses and one girl following beside them, she waved over to Riley who had been looking side ways towards Catherine with the pretense of paying attention to Katie.

"Riley! Are you riding Guinea? I just met my friends and we were heading back to the stables, mind if I ride her back there with them or are you still using her?" The girl had long red hair that was plaited down her back, Janice was a cousin of one of the students at the school and she was spending some time with her cousin and since it was a few months she had requested Riley to help tutor her so she doesn’t fall behind in her school work.

"...Uh.. no.. we're walking.. I mean, sure you can.. take her.." Janice flashed him a warm grin and moved to take Guinea away, but Riley seemed a little hesitant before handing over the reigns. Then watched as she saddled the horse carefully and rode off, she was a good rider, but it wasn't that Riley was worried over Guinea.. it was just.. something felt weird, his eyes drifted back to Catherine's waist almost with a will of their own before he quickly petted Katie. Graham hadn't wanted Catherine's horse to get startled, or for Riley to climb onto her and make a break for it. Looking rather unsure about things Riley continued walking with Catherine, he stared down at the ground though but with the sole reason of catching a glimpse of her body in his peripheral vision. He missed seeing her in the way he was once allowed to see her, she had such an amazing body, at least he thought so, she was slim and slender, soft and firm, warm and loving, but he felt so horrible for thinking and wanting things like that since friends aren't supposed to act like that towards each other.

It was only after a few minutes that he realized his shirt and top were still on the saddle, glancing back nervously and then at his singlet.. he didn't want to go back to the school like this! Before he could think any further on the matter there was a collective group of yells calling out 'Happy Birthday', who had been looking over his shoulder towards the horses fading off in the distance at the time so he jumped slightly at the sudden broken silence.

"Rye!" Graham waved since Riley looked confused, the dark skin caused the Hawaii shorts that he had on look a brighter burst of colors then usual. Forrest had been mucking about and was now wearing one of the girl’s coconut tops and straw dress, a flower placed neatly over his right ear to complete the look as he danced about Graham who ended up nearly tripping the taller guy over since Forrest was purposefully getting in the way of Graham approaching Riley.

It was slightly amusing, but Riley cuddled Katie a little closer to his chest and seemed a little unsure about how to act, it was just he's never had anything to celebrate before, and now didn't seem any different. Maybe if Catherine was going out with him he'd lighten up more to the idea of celebrating his life, but what exactly did he have right now worth celebrating other then his pet dog and a family he had yelled at and blamed for telling him not to speak with Catherine about the baby's death. He didn't realize they understood why he was upset and that they knew he was sorry, he just felt so awful for having yelled at them that he seemed to have ended up avoiding them all together aside from when Haley needed a babysitter.

"Great impression of a deer in front of a cars headlights Riley, but we'll do impressions later, come on, Graham got you a change of clothes," Forrest moved off to grab Riley's swim wear, Riley just watched as Forrest moved off, the best thing was to just start moving around and not wait for Riley to react or respond, but most of them where just hovering around and waiting for Riley to say something, causing Cat's ex-boyfriend to stare awkwardly down at the sand.

There was a call from Graham for everyone to get on with the party, the gathering of people breaking up into groups and going off into separate areas to talk and muck about. Angela and Dawn appeared in front of Riley since they had been waiting by the collection of gifts but he seemed content in standing beside Catherine.

"Hey Riley," Riley looked up at Angel, both the girls where in bikini’s, Dawn had a blue and white flower patterned one and Angela a red and white flower pattern, only her flowers where small and Dawn's white larger. Dawn had a summer tie-dye cloth wrapped about her waist and Angela had a jean skirt, both putting on the best smiles though Riley looked as if they were causing him some sort of agony just by being near him.

"The love in those eyes.." Angela put on a smile and gave a teasing sigh, Riley nervously glanced at Catherine and then over at the water. "Come on you two, come sit with us." Angela motioned towards the tables, the center table had a stack of presents on it and the tables around it had students and basketball players gathered. A group of the cheerleaders squealed out and waved their arms as Riley slowly followed the girls to the table. Angela insisted on Catherine and Riley sitting down before she moved to the other side of the table with Dawn and they happily sat as well.

"Happy Birthday Riley," The voice came from just behind Riley, he knew who it was, it was the now familiar voice of his mother but he barely was able to turn around before she had her hands on both his shoulder and Catherine's. Martha bent down and gave Riley a quick kiss on the cheek, though Riley looked torn between where he wanted to look first, eventually tilting his head back to look up at his mother and then his father stepped up behind her and gave a slight wave of his hand. Riley had blushed noticeably, his eyes dropping back down to Katie in his arms and then darting from one group of people to another trying to figure out who was here.

"We're not here long, we've booked you for tomorrow night, we'd like to have dinner with you," Riley looked back at his dad and nervously replied with a shy 'Ok' before they both smiled and his father reached over to pat Katie. It felt strange now, it was a little awkward, but at the same time it felt really nice, having his parents and friends all around him, it was a little crowding at the moment but he didn't mind it, more because he knew they were leaving soon so he wouldn't feel so caged in for long. Riley's eyes drifted over towards Catherine's hands, he wished she'd reach out and hold him, even if it was just a friendly pat on the back or anything.

"We'll see you tomorrow Riley, we'll be at your game," Riley looked back at his parents as they slowly let their hands leave his shoulders and moved off, they wanted to stay, but at the same time they knew Riley was uncomfortable enough as it was.

"Uh.. Bye." He was a little confused on why they were leaving so soon, he didn't know Ammie's twins were both waiting for them in the rental car that was nearby, some of the students where playing with the babies while Riley's parents were off, Ammie was still unwell and Dave was looking after her so the grandparents were on babysitting duties for the next day or two while they were all down here to see Riley.

It wasn't only that Riley wasn't comfortable with all this, he was seeing everyone having a good time and that was nice.. but he wanted to have dinner with Catherine still.. he wanted to talk with her.. it didn't seem fair.

"Here ya go Rye," Forrest held out the things Graham and he got for Riley, tighter fitting swimmer pants that were dark blue and white pattered and yellow and orange Hawaiian shorts, "We brought your car as well, I think it's best you just go change in there, quicker and closer then the toilets." Riley seemed to be staring at the two items Graham and Forrest chose for him, they knew how Riley was and he wouldn't have liked to wear swimming shorts without anything underneath them but the fact they hadn't offered him a shirt and most of the guys weren't wearing any made Riley a little uneasy.

"Are.." Katie had shifted between Riley and Catherine now, wiggling about so he should lay down on the seat between them, Riley sounded a little shy as he was speaking to Catherine and needed a moment to collect his thoughts. "..Will you be swimming? Are you going to go change?" There was a faintly hopeful look about him, that would mean he'd get to walk with her for a bit, he was still going to hope for the fact she'll have dinner with him after the party, he didn't think it would be running well into the night.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
Since she was looking ahead she couldn't see Riley checking her out as she bent to remove her sandles, not that she thought he'd be doing anything of the kind. Part of her wished that a beach party hadn't been decided upon, there were loads of girls there who were wearing hardly anything at all and there must be one girl there he liked enough to dance with .... even kiss. They'd been broken up for around two months now, surely he'd start looking for someone to be with soon. If she had the courage she'd have perhaps broached the topic of the pair of them but as it wasn't she was terrified of him telling her he wanted nothing more to do with her. But it was so hard to just pretend that everything that he happened between them had never happened. He never talked about it though and she was certainly too nervous to mention it to him.

A second later Riley caught her up, he had Katie tucked under one arm, thought as she fell into sink with her the little black puppy waggled her tail, attempting to reach Cat with her tongue so she could lick her arm. There was a faint smile of Cat's lips before she let her eyes drift away over towards the sea. She watched as several small waves curled up the beach, soaking into the sand and then draining away again. As she caught sight of the three people who emerged onto the beach she suddenly wished they'd not arranged the party, if not she'd have been able to have a quiet evening with Riley but instead she'd have to share him with everyone else for the whole time. On the other hand she was excited about the party they were throwing and she hoped he'd enjoy himself.

"Riley! Are you riding Guinea? I just met my friends and we were heading back to the stables, mind if I ride her back there with them or are you still using her?" It all seemed so sussed to her and she was sure he'd have worked out by now that something was wrong but he didn't cast her any meaningful glances. "...Uh.. no.. we're walking.. I mean, sure you can.. take her.." Cat looked between Riley and the girl cheering up when she saw that everything seemed to be going alright. She shouldn't be selfish, this was Riley's day and she didn't want to spoil it just by her own selfish want to have him to herself.

She unintentionally quickened her pace as she realised that they were reaching the spot where the others were,. Her eyes anxiously glancing around the beach to make sure that everything had been set up alright in her absence. Riley didn't seem to notice however since he appeared to be looking back behind him up the beach towards the point at which he'd left Guinea. She was looking forwards to seeing him only in shorts too, she hoped he'd take off his top. His muscles were so nice and it had been ages since she'd seen his body. She could still look even if she had no right to touch anymore.

As a chorus of Happy Birthday's rang through the air she noticed that Riley jumped slightly, his eyes instantly moving across to look at whatever had made the noise. She felt a grin spread over her face she as watched Graham and Forest make their way towards the pair of them. She let her body drift that tiny bit closer to Riley's, that way hopefully some of the girls might think twice about coming onto him. There was some sort of desperate thought that if she stayed glued to his side that maybe she could fend off anyone else who wanted to try and seduce him. There was a ting flush of hope that ran through her at the idea, perhaps she could win him back tonight, she'd only be wearing a bikini after all and there might be a tiny chance that he still felt something for her.

"Rye!" Plus if she had a couple of drinks she'd have more confidence and maybe she could ask him to dance with her. "Great impression of a deer in front of a cars headlights Riley, but we'll do impressions later, come on, Graham got you a change of clothes," Cat watched eagerly as Forest moved off to get Riley's swimming things. This was all going brilliantly at the moment, she noticed Riley seemed a little quiet and he'd cuddled Katie a little more towards his chest as if she'd protect him from all his friends.

"Hey Riley," Cat looked nervously at the floor as Angela and Dawn made their way over towards them. She still wasn't comfortable about being around either of the girls, especially not Dawn. She could see Lisa flirting with one of the basketball players thought she looked over and waved at them. Cat blushed slightly at being caught watching her and looked down at her sandals. Perhaps she should just leave him with the two girls for a little while.

"The love in those eyes.."... "Come on you two, come sit with us." Casting the cheerleaders dark looks as they called out towards Riley she followed the two girls. conscious of Riley following along right behind her. Car sat down, looking over her shoulder she spotted his parents making their way over towards them. She turned a red colour and looked down at her lap, a minute later feeling Martha placing a hand on her shoulder. She wished the ground would just open up and swallow her. This was so embarrassing, maybe they’d be insulted that she’d dumped their son. Cat kept rather quiet as they arranged to meet their son the following day. She let her eyes become rather interested in her jeans, rubbing a finger nervously over the smooth dark fabric. She felt herself relax slightly as his parents moved off again, leaving them relatively alone.

"Here ya go Rye," She looked at the swimming gear that was being held out towards Riley, he didn’t look too comfortable about wearing them, but then it didn’t seem to have much choice. He’d get used to it soon enough she reckoned.

"Are.." She watched as he put Katie down, the young puppy wriggling around like a crazed thing trying to lick both of them at once, her little tongue hanging out of her mouth and her dark eyes staring up at the pair of them. She was a lot better about being around Cat now, the first time Riley had left her alone with Cat the little puppy hadn’t been her usual chirpy self and she kept trying to get out of Cat’s room so she could go and find Riley again. "..Will you be swimming? Are you going to go change?"

‘Errr I’ll probably go swimming later and I’ve got my swimming things on underneath what I’m wearing at the moment. There was a small flush to her cheeks as she talked, wondering if she’d have the nerve to go around in just a bikini in front of him. He’d not seen her wear anything like that before.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
If Catherine wasn't swimming yet then he decided he'd not change out of his jeans just yet, it may be a little uncomfortably hot, but he'd prefere it for now. Graham was with Sam, who Catherine might recognize if she cast her mind back to when they first escaped from the Initiative with Spike, both of them managed to stay together, though Sam, like Riley, is recovering from a memory wipe and doesn't remember much more then the past three years of her life. The dark haired girl seemed to be luring Graham out into the water and Forrest was mucking about with one of the cheerleaders that he started dating the week before, trying to pick her up and throw her into the seemingly perfect sea water.

It hurt to watch them having fun like that, Riley had always been the one left without a girlfriend while those two always seemed to be off playing around with their girls. But this time it was worse because he had Catherine until he ruined everything, if he had just been better and not lied to her and not be the center of so much dangerous attention, then he might have been able to be out there with Catherine..

"Riiiiley!" Three of the cheerleaders interupted Riley watching his friends and pulled his attention over towards them. Casey, Lillie and Melissa, they were the squealiest of the lot, all three tended to scream so loudly for any reason, from being frightened of something silly, to getting an SMS from a boyfriend or friend.. or anyone. Melissa was holding out a small neatly wrapped box with dark blue paper and a scattering of little silver hearts all over it.

"Happy Birthday Riley," Basically everyone knew that Melissa was overly fond of Riley.. everyone but Riley himeslf that is. The girl kept leaving letters in Riley's locker but Graham kept removing them before Riley saw them since Riley would only tell her off for 'harrassing' him. She knew Graham was removing them so Melissa wasn't giving up, Forrest told her to leave him alone. When one of the other girls had left a letter in his locker that he found after his game he had been so hopeful that it was Catherine that he was more hurt it wasn't from her and spent the next few days looking absolutely depressed.

Riley glanced up at the girl, her light brown hair had blonde streaks all through it, and it was up in a pony tail except for her fringe which framed the sides of her face. There was a bright smile even when Riley didn't make any effort to take her gift.

"I wanted to give you my gift personally." Melissa had on her sweetest face and Lillie seemed to be watching Catherine carefully since they knew she was a mutant, Angela and Dawn stared at the girls and then glanced at each other with amused looks.

"Oh, uh... thank you." He didn't look at all enthusiastic, yet the girls either ignored it or didn't actually realize it since they kept up their cheerful looks. When he realized they weren't leaving he figured they might be waiting for him to open it. Riley wasn't the kind who was eager to see what he had, he was more keen on seeing 'who' gave him things, and Melissa and her friends weren't on his list of important people. Reluctantly he opened it, Katie trying to sniff it thoroughly to figure out what Riley was holding, inside was a cream coloured case, and when he opened it there was a gold chain, thinner then Catherine's and had a gold cross on it.

"I'm sorry, it's.. nice.. but I can't accept this, I already have one." He wasn't too fond of it really, though, if Catherine had gotten it for him he would have probably liked it a whole lot more. "Catherine already got me this one." His fingers fiddled with the one he wore about his neck and then handed back the gift, not really understanding the basic rule of birthday gifts, like it or not, smile and gracefully accept it. Melissa seemed to snatch the box from Riley with a 'Fine' and walkwed off indignantly with her friends.

"Riley.. you're not meant to give the presents back because you don't like it." Angela sounded rather amused, Riley turning his confused expression back to Angela and figuring that was why Melissa had gotten so upset so suddenly, not realizing he had embarrassed her terribly by rejecting her gift, especially since it was in favor of Catherine's.

"Well I wouldn't have worn it." He stated rather impatiently, he didn't know there were rules for a birthday, it only made things worse in Riley's opinion. "When is everyone leaving?" Angela stared at Riley with a hint of surprise that he really didn't seem overly excited about the fact this was his birthday party.

"We expect the party to go right into the night Riley, anyway, what else would you have done today, it's better then sitting in your room." There was sulky look for Riley's reply, he would have had dinner with Catherine, he would have either ruined their friendship or gained a stronger relationship with her. And he wouldn't lie to himself, if they had gotten back together tonight that meant she might have made love with him, he was so desperate for her touch and as far as he cared this party was just prolonging the pain.

"Why don't you both get ready with your swimmers and we'll all go out for a swim?" But Riley didn't want to go swimming if Catherine wasn't going, and Catherine had said she'd go later. "Riley, go change!" Angela added since it was obvious he was uncomfortable in his jeans since he looked so hot, Riley seemed very sulky and she couldn't help wonder why, he'd probably cheer up greatly once he realizes what Catherine was wearing, the thought amused Angela.

Riley got up and left the table, making his way towards the car park a good few meters behind them when Forrest had notioned towards when mentioning his car. It was parked right next to the sand of the beach, so Riley could easily see it, two students were sitting on the front of his car but then quickly moved off when they saw him, he didn't look pleased so they worried he might yell at them. Riley hardly cared, it was armor plated so it's not like they could dent it, Katie meanwhile was trying to follow Riley but having trouble getting off the bench she was on, rather awkwardly leaping off it a short while after Riley had left and darting off after him, the sand kicking up beneath her small paws and her tail wagging.

By the time to arrived to his car, which was still in view of the table the girls sat on since it was parked so close, Riley was already inside and changing into his swimmings. Katie sat down outside the passanger door he had gone into, her small tail wagging slightly as she waited for the door to open so she could get inside. Only it didn't open and she began to get impatient and barked, standing up and putting her paws on the side of the silver door as best she could since it was slippery and she was so small and clumsy.

"Sooo.. you and Riley are getting on nicely by the looks of it." Angela stated teasingly since she already knew that Riley was still in love with Catherine she had to wonder if Catherine knew it or not, you'd have to be pretty dense not to see it, but it seemed these two were very dense when it came to their relationship. There was another bark and a whine from Katie demanding to be let into the car with Riley, he was just glade that the windows where heavily tinted so that people couldn't look in, but it still felt awkward since he could see outside so easily, he kept glancing over towards Catherine in the distance as if paranoid she'd somehow see him changing.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game

"Riiiiley!" Cat glared a little as the three pretty cheerleaders bounced upto them. She liked most of the team but she didn't much fancy the way they were looking at Riley. There was a small triumphant type of smile on her face as she noticed Riley didn't look too interested in them being there. "Happy Birthday Riley," There was a horrible lurching sensation in the region of her stomach as she realised that she'd not said happy birthday to him yet ... and by the looks of things Melissa was going to give him a gift too. She wondered if she should sneak over to the present table and scrabble through them until she found the one she'd brought for Riley. Her eyes wandered over towards the table with the presents on but she couldn't see the present she'd bought him anymore. When she'd left to meet him she'd made sure that her gift had been on top of the others but other people had turned up and placed their presents over hers and it was now lost to sight.

"I wanted to give you my gift personally." There was a stoney expression on Cat's face as she looked at the girl who was holding out a small wrapped blue package to Riley. How dare she think she could just come over here and commandeer Riley's attention like this. She was secretly a little worried that she'd have got Riley a better present than she herself had. Cat had liked the gift she'd got Riley at first but now she'd talked to some of the others and heard what they'd bought him she couldn't help thinking her gift was inadequate.

She watched as he opened the present and pulled out a small box, upon opening that she saw that Melissa had bought him a gold chain ... how dare she!! How dare she get Riley a better and more expensive present than she had. A gold necklace wasn't something you gave away at the drop of a hat. Melissa recived an icy look from Cat for her troubles which was followed by a superior sort of smile when Riley rejected her gift. Fighting back the impulse to jump up and down she looked smug as Melissa snatched back her gift and stalked away.

"Riley.. you're not meant to give the presents back because you don't like it." Cat looked over at Angela ... she didn't care, she'd rather Riley had refused that girls gift. She was rather delighted over the fact that he'd chosen her gift over Melissa's. Now she was a little worried that Riley might do similar to her if he'd already got what she'd bought him. The thought put her a little on edge and she couldn’t help twisting her hands rather nervously in her lap as she listened to Riley telling Angie that he wouldn’t wear it anyway. "We expect the party to go right into the night Riley, anyway, what else would you have done today, it's better then sitting in your room." There was a very satisfied look about her, she still couldn’t believe that he’d chosen her gift, she didn’t even really realise that the conversation had taken a different train until Riley got to his feet holding his swim wear. There was a little thrill at the thought that he was going to be wandering around almost naked, plus by the sounds of things she’d be able to go swimming with him, the thought made her attitude perk up a little. Her eyes watched as he hurried off to his car, a couple of moments later Katie bounding after him looking over excited.

"Sooo.. you and Riley are getting on nicely by the looks of it." Cat threw her a rather nervous glance before she looked away, trying to ignore the statement. Her eyes landed on one of her better friends from the cheerleading squad. The girl Charlotte (who everyone knew as Charlie) who happened to be looking over in her direction waved her over. Taking it as a perfect opportunity to dodge Angie’s questions she made her excuses and left.

‘Uh I have to go, speak to you later.’ There was a feeling of relief that swept through her. She didn’t want anyone to think or guess anything … what if they went and told Riley … she dreaded him finding out somehow, it might ruin their friendship. Upon reaching Charlie she flopped down onto the sand next to her. The girl with a Mediterranean complexion, dark hair and eyes smiled and passed her a bottle of something that was lightly alcoholic. Cat accepted it gratefully, hoping it would quieten her nerves, though her eyes kept wandering back over towards the car Riley was changing in.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
Both the girls gave eachother side way glances before some of their school friends called them over to join the group, Angela cast Cat one last glance before following Dawn over towards the others. Meanwhile Riley was sitting in the car, he had finished changing and was folding his things up neatly, there was a towel in the car and Riley scooped it up and flung it over his shoulder.

There was another impatient bark from Katie who whinned and sat down, not used to being locked away from Riley unless someone else was with her and most definitely not used to having him ignore her. Riley glanced out the window, he didn'twant Katie inside while he was changing.. sheesh, can't a guy have some privacy!? The table was empty now, they all left as soon as he went to change.. that wasn't very nice.. why did they all leave?

It caused him to stay longer in the car then he needed to, but Katie had started crying for attention and Riley didn't last long at all listening to her calling for him, soon opening the door so he could pick her up. There was another burst of excitement since she was over joyed to have finnally been noticed, then she was wondering if they would go for a drive, her small body was racing along the back seat energetically and up on Riley's lap and her tongue trying to catch his face but he kept pulling away from her.

"At least someone waited for me.." He mumbled dismally before climbing out of the car and shutting the door behind him. The towel and Katie in his arms obscured most of his upper body, but Katie was wiggling about so Riley put her down, letting her take off back towards Catherine. She wasn't used to so many people so it was both frightening and exciting for her at the same time, normally the people she met on walks with Catherine and Riley were really lovely and playful with her so she was delighted with the prospect of all this attention.

Riley's hands fiddled nervously with the dark red towel, he didn't own any other shoes aside from his boots and sneakers so he was bare foot. But the sand was nicely kept so there weren't any rocks or shells and it was pretty clean in the area. Katie darted to the table and then hurried about in circles since Catherine wasn't there any more, her nose pressed near the sand as she tried to pick up her scent. But she easily became distracted with Riley when he dangled towel right above her, the puppy's little mouth and tiny teeth gripping playfully onto the towel and tugging furiously with it.

Katie was pretty well trained for her age, but unlike most pet owners, Riley had a friend that could actually tell her what to do in her own language. Arlen had been helping a lot with Katie in the past two months, the fact that Riley's friend was able to communicate with the dog only made Riley all the more protective towards Katie as a 'living creature'.

Sitting down on the bench, Riley had his back to the table and everyone else, keeping his attention focused Katie since everyone else didn't want to stick around and wait for him, he was more upset over the fact that Catherine had seemed to walk off at the first chance she got.

"Rye!!" Graham and Forest where in the water and waving for him to join them, Riley glanced over his shoulder but then looked back at Katie and smiled weakly as she kept tugging at the towel he was holding with both his hands.Riley didn't have a whole lot of colour to his skin, he wasn't white any more like back when he was in the Initiative, and his skin was a nice colour, but it was still a lighter shade then most of the others who spent a lot of time tanning or getting their skin done specially.

Reluctantly he pulled the towel away and placed it up on the table, making his way over towards the water, his eyes catching sight of Catherine while he walked. He smiled over towards her slightly, partly hoping she'd come out with them, Katie run after Riley but as soon as he cautiously entered the water she got overly anxious and nervous by the waves. Running after Riley as soon as the water moved away and then practically tripping over her own feet as she spun about and dashed off as the water became to creep quickly back towards her.

Riley looked highly amused, but on her third attempt to follow Riley in she spotted Catherine while rushing away from the water, her tiny black body speeding off towards the girl in a bubbled of excitement. It was usual for her to become a bundle of energy that never seemed to end, but within an hour or two she'd collapse and sleep though anything, even when Riley had his music up loud, she had been out cold the whole time, oblivious to anything around her. Aside from the sound of Riley possibly leaving in which her eyes would slowly open for a moment to watch him carefully before slipping shut again once she was certain he wasn't going anywhere.

It felt different to a pool, he liked the pool better for exercising, but the beach seemed more fun, he's never been allowed to play in a pool so he didn't really know a pool could be fun as well. He didn't stop until the water was about his waist, he didn't have to get in too far though since the water got deep pretty quickly. Forrest and Graham where swimming away from the shore, racing each other to the float that marked the saftey 'No Beyond' point and the first back to the shore won.

Katie had started barking a few times even though she remained with Catherine, her attention was still focused on Riley. He felt better in the water, not walking around barely dressed in front of everyone else, even though they were all dressed in very little as well. Riley glanced over towards Catherine a little shyly, for a moment he had the memory of their time in the bathroom back at his family's home.

Riley glanced down at the water, he liked running his fingers through the water and across the surface, there was a faint current as the water washed gently back and forth to and from the shore. Riley looked back over towards Catherine, he wished she'd come in so he at least had someone to stand around with.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
Catherine was watching Riley in a not really watching him kind of way, glancing over at the sea and his firneds around him and occasionnaly becuase if was permitted directly at him. So it was she fully aware when Katie caught sight of her and came speeding over towards her. She caught Charlie a little by suprise however who seemed to jump slightly as the puppy sprang around them looking like a whirlwind of activity. Cat smiled, sitting up more and reaching out to the puppy who continued springing around, licking her hands.

She was so jelous of Riley ... he got to have his own dog. But then she was really lucky that he let her look after the puppy sometimes when he wasn't there. It was nice to have something to cuddle upto even if it wasn't Riley. Katie licked Riley all the time and then she'd run over and slober over Cat and sometimes it felt like when she hugged Katie it was almost like hugging an extension of Riley.

Her eyes slid over to look at Riley and she blushed slightly when she realised that he was watching her. His body looked so nice and it wasn't fair that she couldn't just go over there and kiss him. She didn't notice the way that Charile was looking at her and then over at Riley, she seemed to be putting two and two together.

'Hey..I wanna go swimming ... you up for coming?' There was a rather eager look on Cat's face at the idea, her eyes flicking back over towards Riley again and her cheeks flushing slightly. She nodded in response to Charlie's suggestion but waiting to get up untill Charlie had stood up and dusted the sand down herself. Katie was waggling her whole body her tail was going that fast, plus she kept looking back over towards Riley who was still standing out in the water.

Half torn between wanting him to see her getting changed and hoping that he wasn't looking she slipped her top off her head and then undid the button on the front of her jeans. She let the jeans slide off her hips and blushing quite furiously bent down in only her bikini to fold her clothes and lay them on Charlie's towel. She picked up the drink she'd put aside and downed the rest of the contents in the hope that somehow it wuold give her the courage to go near him.

Katie seemed to understand where they were going and scampered ahead of them leading the pair of them down towards the ocean. Charlie was also wearing a bikini but it was a vivid red colour where as Cat was in her american flag coloured one. She felt really exposed dressed like this, eager to get into the water where her form would be hidden from view.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
Since Riley was already watching Catherine it was pretty hard for him not to notice her starting to undress, and he was having trouble forcing himself to politely look away. He'd not paid much attention to any of the other girls since that's how he often was, but with Catherine it was different, he knew what her body could do to him, what it felt like and the things it made him feel.

While Catherine's face was obscured by her shirt while she was pulling it over her head, Riley quite obviously stared but glanced away quickly as soon as she might have been able to catch him watching. There was a slight blush to him, and yet he was so keen just to see more of her, when his eyes lifted from the watery surface she was bending over to remove her jeans and fold her things up. His heart raced slightly at the thought that she'd be near him like that, he quickly glanced over to some of the guys, most paid little or no attention to Catherine since they were distracted with other girls or things.

He didn't notice two others who had been waiting eagerly to see Catherine in her swim wear, they were behind some other people and the two basketball players whistled loudly towards Catherine and cheered teasingly with their friends. Riley still couldn't see them so he focused on Katie who was depserately wanting to follow Catherine into the water.

"Stay Katie!" Riley called out to her in hopes it might calm her down a little, but a moment after Forrest and Graham who had both dived underwater behind him while on their way to finish their race purposfully run into him. Forrest's arms grabbed hold of Riley's legs and forcefully lifted them from beneath him, causing Riley's body to fall backwards into the water as Forrest rushed beneath him and tripped him over. Riley had been really hot so the water felt cool against his skin, which is why he was going slowly in the water, so he could get used it since he wasn't in a rush like they usually had been during training.

Before Riley was able to find his footings Graham and grabbed hold of him, pressing the palms of his darker hands against Riley's back and heaving Riley entirely out of the water and over his head for a moment before dropping the larger boy back into the salty sea water, Riley's body hitting the surface back first again. Standing up quickly and wiping away the water from his face, Riley splashed the salty water towards both of them as they were laughing. Riley chuckled very slightly while he ran his hand through his hair to brush away the water, making it all spiky. Katie had began barking and growling as soon as the other two attacked Riley and she was still making some noise until Riley told her to relax, causing the puppy to slump to the ground and grumble as she watched from the distance.

With a quick look around he spotted Catherine rather easily, but she had a friend with her so he felt awkward about going over to her. Instead he flashed her a rather bright smile, hoping she might trail over towards him soon enough so they could muck about together. The prospect of playing around and being able to brush against her skin to skin was definitely an alluring one. But he gave a rather shy look as he dropped his eyes away, she looked so amazingly wonderful and what if she got too close and he couldn't resist leaning over and kissing her?

With a bashful look he tried to look back at her only shied away to watch Katie who was now more patiently watching them lazily on the shore. Glancing over at Forrest and Graham who were struggling to throw the other under the water, Riley lifted his arm from the sea so that his wet fingers could fiddle with the moist golden chain.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
"Stay Katie!" Her eyes were looking over towards the puppy as Riley spoke, watching as Katie bounded along the edge of the water with a concerned look on her face. Not yet brave enough to venture out into the water and calling the pair of them back again with her puppyish yaps. Cat who'd only waded out to knee height was half torn as to weather she should go back to the distressed animal but at Riley's voice she seemed to calm down a little thought she was still watching them anxiously.

Turning around she was just in time to watch Riley being unceremoniously dumped in the sea by a laughing and joking Graham and Forest. For a moment she was concerned but when he resurfaced a mintue later smiling she let herself relax again. After all she didn't know if he could swim and messing around in the sea could be dangerous. Only last year she'd seen someone almost drown at the beach they'd been at. It had been quite scarey. They'd been surfing and he'd fallen off his board and hit his head on the rocks below the surface. Once he'd been brought to shore and given mouth to mouth he'd started breathing again. She never did find out what happened to him once the ambulence had taken him away though.

Cat realised with a hot flush that he was looking right at her and smiling .... had he realised she was staring? She gave him a quick smile and waded out further into the sea untill it bobbed around her chest. She adusted her bikini a little while she was out there, no one would be able to see under the water.

Not wanting to seem overly eager to dash over straight away and talk to Riley, she didn't want to appear desperate to him she asked Charlie if she wanted to go for a swim. The dark haired girl voiced no objections to the plan, especaily since swimming against the current for a few minutes would bring them close to a group of the basket ball players who were mucking around in the water. They were throwing a ball around, aiming if for the water in front of someone else, trying to splash them with the sea water.

Re: The Beachside Party - Night before the Big Game
It was hard not to look disappointed when Catherine seemed to avoid heading his way, he wasn't at all pleased when he noticed them making their way towards the other boys. Riley was very good around his other team mates unless Catherine was around and they were talking to her or looking towards her or someone next to her, and most of them have noticed this. Two of the boys looked nervously towards Riley since it wasn't uncommon for the stronger man to throw the baller that extra bit harder so it ensured some mild unbalance and stinging in the palms of their hands.

Riley didn't do it on purpose, he didn't even realize he was doing it until one of the players complained when he nearly fell backwards. Since then Riley and his team mates tended to avoid each other when Catherine was around, it was hard for him not to be so jealous considering he has convinced himself that Catherine is the only woman he'll ever allow himself to sleep with and love. And the longer he is without her the more desperate he is to win her back, and sometimes those who threaten to catch Catherine's attention, purposefully or not, tended to get the blunt force of Riley's anxiety and jealous worries.

It wasn't long till both Forrest and Graham caught Riley watching rather apprehensivly as the two girls made their way to the group of male players. It wasn't long before Forrest had coaxed Riley into stirring up a little trouble, Riley had dived beneath the water as descreetly as possible and shortly after Graham called out to the other boys.

"Hey guys! How about a game, my team verse all of you lot, first team to lose the fall five times loses the game, if the girls wonna play, last team that had the ball before the girls catch it loses automatically." Forrest was swimming hastily ahead further away from Graham while they both moved towards the group. One of the players, Peter, glanced over towards Charlie and Catherine and then towards Graham and Forrest.

"I'm ok with that, but the winners get to have drinks with the girls and the losers have to sit out during the bonfire until the drinks with the girls are finished." Peter and his four other friends looked a little smug since it looked like there was an uneven advantage to their favor. Peter was slim, though he had a nice body, it was still very slim since he didn't naturally have much muscle mass, but it made him one of the quickest players on the team, he had light brown hair with bright green eyes and usually competed with Riley and especially Forrest who bragged a lot. The instant Peter tossed the ball playfully over to one of his other friends, Riley, who just managed to get into position after knocking against one of the other players leg accidently in the current. But before the player could warn Peter about it, Riley kicked his body from the sandy floor, exhaling all the oxygen in his lungs as he does so and lunges out of the water quickly enough to slam the bright orange ball over Peters head and skidding hastily across the waters surface towards Forrest.

"That's one loss to you." Riley stated rather needlessly just for the fun of it, grinning innocently in his charming yet mischivious manner while he caught his breath. Katie had began barking distressingly a few moments after Riley disappeared and she had just got scolded at by one of Melissa's friends to be quiet, getting a rather nasty look from Riley who was about to tell Katie to relax again. Angela was already scooping up the small puppy to entertain her while Catherine and Riley where out in the water. Dawn said something to the girl that made her storm off furiously and the young witch seemed rather pleased with herself.

Since Katie was now being taken care of Riley allowed his mind to return to the game.. his eyes immidietly moving over to Catherine as his hand quickly ruffled his wet hair so it wasn't sticking down any more. He offered her a rather bright smile, he didn't even care if she didn't play with them, as long as she was watching him he was happy. Though he hoped she would play, it'd give him a chance to have more contact with her.
