A new beginning
(Monday, 1:30-2:15pm)
The air rushed powerfully through his hair as Aeryn raced down the boulevard on his motorcycle, weaving in and out of traffic. It was naturally part of his live-fast die-young attitude to push the limits, speeding on the surface streets as he headed toward the Xavier institute, his small backpack snugly fastened over his leather jacket. Although the sun was brightly shining in his face, he had no problem seeing because his dark glasses blocked most of his glare, though he probably would have been able to see fine regardless by focusing on the sounds around him.

He was still tired from last night's show, but the blowing wind helped to wake him up a bit. He looked down at his watch. : 1:30. Okay, I've got some time to kill, I think I'll go grab a coffee.: he thought, revving his engine as he turned down the street, heading towards a nearby coffee shop. He parked his bike in front of the small cafe, and headed inside.

It was rather quiet in the quaint coffee shop, as the morning rush had already been through and it was too early for the lunch crowd to be needing their caffiene fix. He ordered a mocha cappucino and took a seat in the corner. The place was empty, save for a couple enjoying their early-afternoon coffee at one of the tables near the door. He pulled a pen and paper from his backpack, and began to jot down ideas for new songs, as lyrics were always running through his head. Aeryn had never had problems when it came to songwriting, his expansive vocabulary and creative mind always found inspiration, but this afternoon nothing of any particular importance came to him, so he put his writing pad away and exited the cafe, leaving a couple dollars in the tip jar for the pretty cashier that had made his drink.

Hopping on his bike, he ran his fingers through his hair, tucking his bangs behind his ears, and slipped on his glasses before taking off towards the school. As he neared the large, black gates of the mansion, he couldnt help but stare in awe at the sheer size of the school. Were it not for the numerous teenagers walking about the grounds, he would have mistaken it for some yuppie's estate. The small intercom box near the gate beeped loudly as he sat there. Aeryn jumped off his motorcycle and walked up, pushing the red button that had been flashing.

"Name please?" Aeryn jumped as the box spoke loudly.

"A-Aeryn, Aeryn Bradshaw." he said, caught a bit off guard. "I was supposed to be here at 2:15, but I'm a bit early." Aeryn sat in silence, waiting for a response, looking into the security camera above him.

"Thank you, Mr. Bradshaw, please park your bike in the student lot, then come to the main hall, where someone will greet you and show you around the grounds."

The massive gates opened wide as Aeryn motored his way up to the mansion. He parked his bike in the only spot he could find, then made his way to the large entryway he could only assume was the hall she had talked about. Entering the door, he was surprised at how large and expansive the entryway was. A scholarly ambience permeated the room, as students walked to and fro whispering quietly to each other. A few looked up casually, but then went back to their own devices, leaving Aeryn a bit dissapointed. So used to being noticed, he forced a smile and walked through the entry hall, but he noticed no one appeared to be waiting for him. : Oh well, I'm sure someone will be along to show me around soon. A new school, a new home, new girls, heck, maybe even a few new fans.: One thing was for sure, this was a chance to start a new beginning.

TBC: (Matt, you had a char for me right? If not, anyone from the school.)

Re: Unknown
Classes can typically make anyone freak out on their first day. However, for this newcomer to not only this dimension, but also this school, classes can mean trouble. Luckily, the beautiful nature-powered mutant only had to sit in on some classes this week before she figures out which would be best for her.

You see, Kylora had been homeschooled ever since her thirteenth birthday. She never knew how her mum could get all the necessary school materials without being discovered by the Hellions for months. She didn't know, that is, until her mum took her to Xavier's just before coming to this dimension. It was there that she was able to finish her homeschooling and graduate before arriving in the dimension that she is in now, only a few days ago.

Right now, the elfin-eared girl was looking over the schedule that one of the teachers had given her of classes that she should sit in on to get a feel of what she might want to take. She couldn't remember which teacher had given her the schedule, just that she had ten minutes to get downstairs to a British Literature class. Or was it an advanced math class?

"Blast it all to the eternal stars!", she exclaimed, startling a few students around her. She didn't notice though; she was too busy looking at her schedule to really care! "I can't tell if that's my next one or if its after this one here!" This last part was muttered as she descended down the stairs, her brilliant emerald gaze scanning the contents of her schedule.

It was on the last step that she stumbled, finding herself being thrown to the quickly rising floor, right in front of Matt and Aeryn (though she didn't know that these were their names at that moment). A small scream escaped her lips, not loud enough to fill the hall, just loud enough to grab the attention of those around her as she fell...

Re: A new beginning
(Yeah matt, for Rp's sake, Im gonna post, and try to remember whatcha said. I think It'll be fine, and radiance, I couldn't find Kylora's bio, so Im improvising a bit from what you posted.)

Aeryn looked about the front hall as he waited for his escort to arrive. He glanced over the finely decorated walls, noting the wonderful architecture and exquisite paintings that adorned them. He ran his fingers through his blond hair, tucking it back behind his ears. Looking through a window, he could see much of the western side of the mansion, including a large field where many students were playing a pick-up game of soccer. Bleh. Aeryn loved sports, but he had never really liked soccer. Not enough adrenaline gets going. He preferred there to be a sense of danger in what he was doing, whether it was surfing big waves or barreling down a mountaintop at 40 miles an hour on a snowboard, taking every jump in stride. But he was more than hopeful that this school had something he could be interested in.

"Aeryn Bradshaw, I presume?" a voice called from behind. Aeryn turned to see a young man with raven black hair standing before him. He promptly shook the mans hand as it was offered, then took a moment to look him over. The young man stood perhaps a little shorter than Lyric, but he radiated a confident aura as he stood before him.

"Would you like to see the entire campus? Or perhaps just a few of the more interesting rooms?" the young man, who had introduced himself as Matt, asked quizically.

"I really have no idea, but I dont wanna waste to much of your time, so why dont you just show me where I can get a bite to eat, then perhaps where I'll be staying." he answered. Aeryn turned his head as a beautiful woman came walking down the stairs, her face buried in a schedule or paper of some sort. He watched as she gracefully bounded the steps, her foot catching on the landing as she began to fall forward.

Reacting quickly, Aeryn leaped past matt, sliding underneath the girl, catching her with an arm and his knee, preventing a rather nasty fall. Looking down at her, her peircing emerald eyes met his icy-blues.

"Ha, my first day and someone's falling for me. Let me help you up there babe." he said, still holding her up from the ground.

Re: A new beginning
((For some reason, I can't find her bio either! I have an old one, but it isn't the one from the board...Oh well. I'm sure it is somewhere.))

She was falling fast and hard. Kylora flung her hands out in front of her, trying to catch herself when someone else did it for her. She found herself looking up into the icy-blue eyes of the stranger who had saved her from a nasty fall. She found herself a bit shocked, not knowing what to say to her rescuer for a few moments as their eyes locked.

She'd only met a few people with eyes as brilliant as her own. Connor was one of them and another girl in Bristol was another. Now, here she was, being caught by a guy with brilliant blue eyes that threatened to rival the son of Wolverine.

A blush crept over her exotic features as she heard what he'd said. She quickly got to her feet and righted herself, finding that she had crumpled her schedule during the fall. The elfin beauty straightened her robin's egg blue short-sleeved shirt with a neckline that made it almost off the shoulder. She then brushed off her white linen skirt that came down past her knees with a light green ribbon around the top, trailing half-way down her skirt. Her hand went to her silver necklace with the emerald leaf, making sure that it was still there.

"I..Um...Thank you," she said, a bit embarrassed that she had fallen like that,"I really should have been looking where I was going.."

She tucked a stray strand of wavy raven hair behind her right elfin ear, her tresses being a bit curlier than usual, falling in a very alluring pattern around her face. Raven-haired mutant had decided to leave it down to fall where ever it pleased in its layered cut with a few tresses framing her face.

Kylora looked around to make sure that she had everything. She had left her backpack in the dorm and had a pen in her pocket. She noticed that Matt, the boy who had seen in the rec room at some point the past day or so, was right behind her rescuer.

Looking sheepish, she asked,"New here?"

Re: A new beginning
(OOC: sorry for the short post, I was a bit lost as to what to say XD)

”…but I don’t wanna waste too much of your time…”
So that Aeryn was of the considerate kind... well, certainly not the worst character trait to have, as Matt ironically thought to himself, and so he decided to be nice in return. It was all about rewards after all, wasn't it? The slightly sarcastic tone his inner voice had didn't fade as the kitchen-searching girl from earlier this morning made quite an impressive appearance and revealed another side of the contrasting mutant's new acquaintance.

*Goddess... he's a charmer.* Suppressing the reflex to roll his eyes, Matthias quietly watched the two playing out what seemed like a scene from some random soap opera. Now, where was the string orchestra when you needed one? But good for the newbie that he was already making friends. Half-heartedly scolding himself for these thoughts, the light-elemental wondered when exactly he had become so cynical, but soon decided that he didn't really want to know. Some things you don't even like to reveal to yourself.

Still, he had never felt the desire to call anyone “babe”, especially not strangers. Then again, safe for two or so people, he wasn’t one to use generic pet names anyway, finding most of them degrading or simply too “chav”. Matt was too inclined to putting people into a certain category when hearing them say things like that and following the egocentric pattern of thinking most humans had, he expected everyone else to do the same. That didn’t mean he automatically considered Aeryn to be a particularly bad person, Matt just assumed that the other male was a womaniser of the kind that’s quick with compliments but rarely means what he’s saying.

Head titled to the side, the raven-haired boy’s eyes lingered on the slightly exotic female, eyes squinted a little as he tried to remember her name. It had started with G or R, hadn’t it? Either way, the sound of her name had struck him as quite unusual when she had introduced herself this morning, but for the time being, that was the only thing his memory could come up with. Stupid thing, constantly rebelling against its owner. Whether or not it was a good thing that his ability to remember didn’t make any difference between trivial situations and those of the life-and-death kind when it came to revealing potentially important information, he did not know. But randomly, what he had been searching for returned without any apparent reason, and so he was getting by. Somehow.

Waiting for Aeryn to remember his presence, a tune snuck into Matt’s mind and refused to leave, stirring the desire to randomly burst into song. It was Contrast’s firm belief that, if it hadn’t been such a weird thing to do, many people would behave like in a musical, singing on the streets. Sadly, people considered someone doing that as at least borderline insane, and so the dark-clothed mutant decided to use this sudden energetic state in another way. ”I was just about to show Aeryn around a bit. Wann tag along,…” A short pause as Matt suddenly remembered her name, a sort of victories smile appearing on his features. ”Kylora?”
*Ha, gottcha, memory!* The good thing about mentally talking to oneself was, that nobody noticed it. Usually anyway.

"So they intruded our top secret training missions on that secluded island in the middle of nowhere by simply landing there? Wow... now that's really making me feel safe."

Re: A new beginning
Aeryn flashed a pearly smile as he helped the young lass to her feet, noticing how the light from the window made her emerald eyes sparkle as she stood. He stepped back a bit, being polite and giving her room. In a quick glance he passed over her figure, noting her impressive sense of style, complimented with an even more impressive form. More noticiable were her sharp features. The thin, beautiful face, small, pointed ears. There was so much he wanted to know about the girl already, and he had hardly known her for more than a minute. He found himself wondering if she herself were a new student, where she had come from, and other related things.

"New here?' she asked him, bringing his wandering mind back down to earth.

"My first day." he promptly replied, pulling his blond bangs behind his ear for what seemed like the millionth time that day. :I should probably get them trimmed: he thought, : but then again, I do like it this length: He bent over to pick up his backpack, slinging it over his shoulders, which were covered by his dark-colored leather jacket, and stood up straight.

”I was just about to show Aeryn around a bit. Wanna tag along,…" Aeryn heard. he had almost forgotten about matt, his attention having been diverted by the entrance of the exotic woman.
"Kylora?" so that was the young beauty's name. Quite a unique one, he thought to himself. He wondered what nationality the girl was, having such interesting features and the name, which he had never heard before, was certainly not of common origin, which struck his fancy, as he had traveled throughout much of the world with his parents in his earlier years, and had not yet encountered a woman such as her.

Turning to Matt, he nodded his head slightly.

"Yeah, I'm starving, where's the kitchen?" he said, chuckling lightly. Looking over at his newfound companion,

"Why don't you come along? I'm sure there's more to know about you than your apparent prowess with stairs," he said teasingly, a smile opening across the young man's face.

(sorry bout the somewhat rushed post, I'll be working for the rest of the day and probably all of tommorrow, so I wanted to get something in there for you guys to continue with.

Matt: that's alright. and before you wonder, I just fixed a coding error)

Re: A new beginning
Aeryn had answered her first question, making her smile as she remembered her first day, knowing that he must be nervous. Then again, he was a native to this dimension, unlike her, who was a refugee, in essence.

It occurred to her that she hadn't noticed Matt much at all before he invited her to tag along. She vaguely remembered him from this morning.

'I guess he's okay once he's woken up a bit more..', Kylora thought to herself as she absent-mindedly tilted her head to the side prettily, unaware just how alluring her movements were.

The life-loving sweetheart looked at her schedule as she thought for a moment of whether or not she should join them in a tour as Matt had just asked her if she'd like to join them. On the one hand, she really has been getting lost a bit more lately. However, she did have a British Lit. class to sit in on in about an hour (though she knows that she'll just end up taking it in the end).

Really, she was surprised that Matt knew her name since she never gave it to him directly and didn't even know his either. So, she decided to ask it.

"I'm sorry, I don't think I caught your name, yet you seem to know mine from my introduction to Hannah and Faith earlier," she said, feeling a bit curious about Matt's name,"I tend to like to know the names of whom I'm keeping company with and I've not even properly introduced myself. I'm Kylora Chambers..."

She was facing both of them, shifting a bit from her left nude-sandaled foot to her right. A smile formed across her lovely face as she started to answer Matt's question only to hear Aeryn teasingly invitation to join them in the kitchen.

"Oh, I don't know...," she said with a teasing grin,"Perhaps I could join you if you'll help me sort out this blasted schedule. They seemed to have put it in alphabetical order instead of according to which time it should be at...That and military time and I'm afraid I've forgotten how to cypher that."

Kylora felt like she should join them for a trip to the kitchen, however, since she actually hadn't eaten since that morning. She hadn't realized it, but she was hungry herself. As she thought, she felt her eyes unconsciously travel over Aeryn's body, sizing him up and such.

'He seems like he'd be quite the heart-breaker and he's already proven that he's quite the charmer,' she thought to herself, 'Both could be deadly for me...I've never really been able to resist guys like him. However, he seems to be genuine and happens to be a gentleman too..This could be an interesting encounter either way...'

Re: A new beginning
(OOC: Just a blah post to get us moving...)

Kylora's polite, even posh way of talking formed quite a strong contrast with the blonde male's casual words, one that called a grin onto Matt's face. It was always funny to see classes collide, and that in a society where things like that were assumed to not exist anymore. Yeah... right.

"Even sleepy and grouchy I can hear...though it may as well have been by plain chance that I remembered your name. I'm Matt, by the way." Walking all that way past Aeryn to shake hands with a girl he had just seen this morning seemed not only slightly weird but also like quite a pointless effort to the contrasting mutant, and so he simply nodded a smile at her and pointed into a general direction.

"Right, the kitchen it is then." A chuckle. "To be honest, I would have expected something less... don't-know-what, but oh well... it's making sense." In which way, he wasn't too sure, but if he had been still been hungry/thirsty/peckish, he probably would have gone for the kitchen too. After all, what good is a recreation room when you're constantly distracted by a growling stomach?

Snatching the timetable out of Gaia's fingers, Matt started to walk towards their all too mundane destination, his grin turning somewhat ironic. "Classrooms are on the way...," he said before trying to explain the time system to her. Having grown up with the system, he couldn't really understand what would be so difficult about it, but for fairness' sake Matt had to admit that there were similar things in other cultures he found strange and sort of tricky despite their simplicity.

"The trick is to simply continue counting after 12 o'clock a.k.a. noon... and put some colon in front of the last two digits. So 15:00 would be 3pm." He nodded handing the sheet of paper back to her, a hand indicating that they'd have to turn right at the next "crossroad". The hallways were a maze, one that he had got lost in countless times when he had been been new at the Institute, and similarities to a rather complex street system wasn't too far off.

Re: A new beginning
"I'm Kylora Chambers......" the young beauty had said, introducing herself. Such an interesting name, but it would seem to go along with the various otherworldy features the elfin woman that stood before him possessed. Aeryn couldnt help but smile as he introduced himself as well.

"Aeryn, Aeryn Bradshaw. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." he said with hardly noticible bow.

`: I wonder if she's single. : he found himself thinking. : Shame on you Aeryn, a girl like that is probably fending them off left and right, what are you thinking?: his mind argued back. :Still... maybe it's still worth the shot. We'll see how things go, I mean, it's only my first day: He smiled inwardly as the two of them headed out the hall, following Matt on an expedition to the kitchen.

Aeryn heard Matt's explanation of the time system, he was already quite familiar with the different systems of time, having traveled to many different countries and time zones. He even somewhat preferred the system to the standard time, as it made a distinction between AM and PM easier, if only slightly. Slightly distracted by his own thought, he almost walked straight into the wall as the group made the turn, for he had been focused more on his new friend. He jerked and turned just in time to avoid doing so, and blushed slightly. : Hope no one noticed that: he thought to himself.

As they made their way to the kitchen, Aeryn began to focus more on the sounds around these quiet halls, using his gifts to search the area around him soley by the sound waves that echoed around him. The quiet halls appeared dark, although a few shouts from students playing outside seemed to rebound through the mansion, really only visible to his particular senses.

It was then the thought struck him that his two new companions mught be mutants as well. He had hardly thought about it, but it would be such a relief to know that there were others such as him, as he had yet to make friends with another mutant since discovering his own powers. He was hesitant to think about it any further, or even ask. :What if they aren't mutants, would they think me any stranger than I already am?: Suddenly lyrics popped into his head, like a flash of light out of nowhere. He pulled out a pen and paper from his bag, scribbling furiously.

The voices I hear they are my own reflection,
In this pool, of tears
The walls around me made of stone
protection, From my fears
The echoing truth rings in my head
returning, From my lies
The blinding frustrations of words once said
still burning, in my eyes........

A shout in the dark echoes through these halls,
but I'm undiscerning, and yet I am turning
The sound of my past catching up to me,
I try to forget it, and still I regret it,
The rhetoric of my heart cries out
Im searching for answers, growing like cancer
Breaking these chains that would bind my soul
It's coming full circle, with one final hurtle
Just you.............

As he scribbled on the pad of paper, after glancing over the song, he decided it would need some more work, but he could do that later. He looked up to see they were already at the kitchen, and the two with him were watching his actions. He couldnt help but blush and smile. "Well, when inspiration hits you, it's like finding the love of your life. If you don't go for it right then and there, you may miss your only chance." He said with a smile, subconciously glancing over at Kylora.

"Well, hmm, lets eat!"
he said excitingly, opening the nearest fridge, and he began to look for something to satiate his apettite.

Re: A new beginning
Kylora was indeed watching Aeryn write a few lines in his notebook. After his nervous explanation of writing whenever inspiration hits, she figured that the handsome new guy was a writer and very serious about it. This was just another little tidbit of information for the curious emerald-eyed mutant to store for later comments. Perhaps she’d ask him about it while they ate lunch.

’Okay, ‘ she thought to herself, So, he’s cute, charming, has great taste in clothes, and he’s artistic. I wonder…No, nope, don’t go there. He’s just gotten here and already you’re hoping he’ll ask you out. He’s probably got a girlfriend back home anyway…Though, it wouldn’t hurt to have a crush on him for now…Let’s just see how this plays out.

Matt had made it so easy to get to the kitchen and he had even explained a few things along the way. She just hoped that she remembered everything. Now that she was in the kitchen though, she felt her stomach rumble, protesting the lack of food going to its depths.

“Let’s see what we have here…”, she said with a smile as she headed for the fridge. Looking inside, Kylora found the basics (sandwich meat, a head of lettuce, a few fruits and veggies, condiments, etc.). She then opened the freezer door and found pizzas, frozen dinners, popsicles, ice cream, and many other things. She shut both doors and turned to Matt and Aeryn.

“Alright…Any suggestions?”, she asked with a small smile as she stood beside the fridge, “We have things to choose from door number one and door number two.” As she said the last part, she couldn’t resist acting like Vanna White and gesturing like she was one of the girls who showed off the prizes from the old show The Price Is Right to the fridge and then the freezer.

The raven-haired beauty then concentrated on the garden area of the grounds, her emerald gaze flashing green as she sorted through the various plants there before she severed her report with them, having learned what she needed to know. A smile formed on her face as she focused her gaze once more on Matt and Aeryn, particularly Aeryn. She knew she had just shown off a little, but really didn't care.

"We also have a nice variety of fresh spices and such in the garden to choose from if we want something fancy," she said with a grin, a twinkle appearing in her emerald gaze,"So, what'll it be?"

Enter the Chef
Aeryn couldn’t help but smile as he watched the young beauty portray the early century gameshow diva. Vana White, was it? He remembered something about her passing some 10 years ago or so, when he was a kid. “Come on Down!” had been the catch phrase of the show. He found himself wondering what the qualifications for such a job were. “So, are you familiar with the alphabet? Can you raise your arm to shoulder level? Do you know how to smile?” Heh, he imagined it was her ageless beauty that got her the job, but the idea of such an interview was entertaining.

Aeryn took a moment to glance at the contents of the fridge. A nice chicken pasta dinner sounded pleasible. He quickly searched the cabinets and found a large boiling pot, filled it with water, and just a sprinkle of salt to help it boil faster, then set it on the open range of the stove. “I don’t know about you guys, but the Italian in me is asking to be served.” He said smiling broadly. He searched the fridge for a few tender chicken breasts, laying them on the clean cutting board, and began to filet them, slicing the meat from the tendons and fat that often ruined the flavor when not prepared correctly. His agile hands worked quickly as he pulled various herbs and spices from the cabinet and began to flavor the chicken. He worked the spices in, knowing that just sprinkling them on would not be enough, they needed to be rubbed into the chicken for their full effect.

Rinsing his hands, he pulled out a head of lettuce and begun to sheaf it with his fingers, pulling it off into strips that would easily be made into a garden salad once he finished slicing the tomatoes and peeling the carrots. Good hearty Italian cooking took time, but was always worth the patience, or so his old Nanny had taught him in his youth. Pulling out a skillet, he set the breasts to cook over a low heat, laying the tender breasts on the pan as it warmed. The sizzle of meat on heated metal sent flavorful aromas into the air, and his stomach growled even more as he continued on.

“So, Kylora, what’s your story? Massachusetts local? Or somewhere more fun?”
he asked as he broke the pasta into the now boiling water. His eyes traveled back between her and Matt, who had been rather silent in the past few moments.

“It’ll be a few more minutes, but trust me, you can’t get any better than good old homestyle Italian cooking.” He said brightly, grinning like a little boy as he turned the chicken breast over.

Re: Enter the Chef
A smile overtook the radiant young beauty as she watched Aeryn go to work on preparing the Italian meal. She would have been glad to have fixed up something quick or really, help, but Aeryn had already started before she could ask. Kylora found it refreshing to find a man that could cook as well as he apparently could (at least from the way he was preparing the food so far). The lovely young woman actually wasn’t too bad herself in the kitchen. She could make anything taste good, really. Her mum had been a first rate cook and had taught her everything that she knew (of course, she had learned from her grandmother and grandmothers tend to have a lot of good recipes to hand down). That and when you’re on the run, you tend to learn how to make the best of anything. She’d even learned how to properly collect and preserve various wild herbs and such.

“Lookin’ good,” the raven-haired girl said with a grin, letting him wonder whether or not she was talking about his cooking or himself. She knew that she was flirting, but well…She felt a little flirting couldn’t hurt much. Besides, she could just play it off as teasing later if they turned out to be just friends.

When Aeryn asked her what her story was, Kylora found herself in a tight position. On the one hand, she could lie and keep doing what she’d been doing ever since she first went into hiding with her mum. Ooooor, she could tell the truth and actually trust someone for once. These two sides battled within her for a few moments before she decided to tell the truth. She knew that sooner or later she’d have to tell everyone something and she would rather it be the truth rather than a good lie. This was what she’d been dying to do ever since that fateful day so many years ago when life as she knew it abruptly came to a start, shoving her into an existence in which she constantly had to look over her shoulder and never really ever felt completely safe.

“Actually, I’m…I’m not even from this reality,” she said a bit hesitantly, her voice becoming more sure with every word she spoke, “I’m a refugee from another reality. My mum actually sent me here so that I would be safe from the people who’ve been chasing us ever since my 13th birthday. Why they’ve been chasing us is a long story…But, I’m originally from Riley, South Carolina, which is a small town just outside of Charleston.”

A sad smile formed upon her lovely face as she remembered her old hometown. She’d missed Riley a lot over the past few years. She knew that she could never go back now though. No one would recognize her in this reality. Heck, she wasn’t even sure if her parents had gotten together in this reality or if she’d even existed here. She didn’t want to think about what it would be like to run into another her in this reality.

“What about you two?”, she said with a warm smile, hoping to learn more about Aeryn, but at the same time, not wanting to make Matt feel like he was being left out of the conversation.

Re: A new beginning
To be quite honest, Matt hadn’t overly minded not having been in the limelight of things, and he wasn’t bothered that that didn’t change as the other two did their thing. Apparently, Kylora and Aeryn had been made for one another – the similarly exotic name just another hint that the light-elemental registered with an ironic smile as he leaned against one of the kitchen cupboards, silently watching. With his main powers lost, that was possibly the talent he should rely on, Matt mused as the cooking began, an absent-minded smile and nod sent Aeryn’s way. Italian was fine, sure, especially if he didn’t have to cook for a change. He found it quite amusing how the new arrival was already feeling enough at home to raid the Institute’s fridge, but then again, it was probably a helpful trait to be able to adjust that quickly. That and having a pretty girl starting right off with the flirting was certainly nothing to lower the self-esteem either.

Arms crossed before his chest, he listened to the – as he correctly assumed – highly shortened version of Gaia’s story and suddenly wished they had sent somebody else to fetch the newbie… His past was nothing he liked to talk about and so he didn’t. Heck, not even Aurora knew of the more… piquant details of his story, and she was the one he considered his best friend at this place he had just come to a few months ago. Yet refusing to reply was suspicious… and he didn’t want to appear too enigmatic to avoid curiosity on anyone’s part. Then again, it wasn’t like anybody was really paying attention to him; something he knew without feeling bitter about it. Some things just were, as they were.

“Nothing as interesting on my part. My family moved from Europe to the States roughly a decade ago, then my powers emerged and I came here. End of story.” He grinned as carefree as he could possibly manage without looking obviously fake and fixed his eyes on their chef de cuisine, hoping his acting skills were enough to let things move on normally. Maybe the best thing he could do now was to simply make up some excuse and leave the two alone. After all, a romantic dinner à trois worked out about as well as a five-legged pig fixing wristwatches. Randomly thinking what an awesome tongue twister that made, his grin gained even more authenticity.

(OOC: Err… ok, reeeeeally lacking inspiration here, so maybe I should back out XD And sorry for the late reply... same reason.)

Re: Enter the Chef
"Looking good" he had heard Kylora say. His mind wandered over the small thought that maybe she had meant him, but his mind quickly busted down the corrigible thought.

:The food buddy, the food. : He stirred the cream sauce made from a mix he had found in one of the cupboards, not traditional, but making a decent alfredo sauce from scratch would have taken longer than his stomach was willing to wait.

As he turned the chicken breast over to cook a bit more he listened intently as Kylora told of her travelling to this place from another dimension. :Wait, another dimension? : In his life he had been brought up seeing much that the world had to offer, but the thought had hardly ever crossed his mind that there were other worlds, universes even, that could intersect and transverse his own. :Exotic is far too mundane a word for this girl. : He wondered what in the world could this girl have gone through to warrant leaving her entire life behind, it made any troubles that he might have had seem insignificant as he listened to the ravened beauty tell her story.

"Then my powers emerged and I came here" Aeryn almost dropped the wooden spoon he had been holding at the words the contrasting man had spoken, though his body remained still. So there were others like him, mutants. He breathed a deep sigh of relief as he turned to the two before him.

"Well food's almost done. A little about me, while we wait. Hmm, let's see, I was born in New York, but moved to the west coast when I was young. I play guitar and sing for a band called ShadowFaith, were nothing big yet, but we got a contract to put out a record later this year, and we've been playing shows every week since we got back to the east coast. Oh, and I can do this."
he said, placing the spoon down. He took a moment to listen around him, the sound of the kids outside, the hum coming from the stove, the soft breathing of Kylora.

:heh, she even sounds beautiful: he thought.

Reaching out his arm, he began to collect the sound waves from around him, focusing them into an invisible wave around his hand. Th room around them fell silent, all the sound being collected into his palm. Turning his attention to the unoccupied chair beside him, he released the weak shockwave at it, causing the chair to slide across the kitchen floor. He could have possibly absorbed enough energy to blast it to pieces, but he didnt want to get in trouble, so the moderate demonstration was enough.

It was the first time he had ever used his powers in front of someone else, and his body was intoxicated with adrenaline. Even such a small display was exciting to him. Finally, he was with others who could understand what he was going through.

He smiled a little as he looked up at Matt and Kylora, sound once again returning to the room. "Well then, let's eat!" he said, laughing heartedly as he began to serve up the chicken pasta d'alfraize, as his nanny had called it, handing a plate to each of them.

Re: Enter the Chef
Gaia listened to Matt as he told his story. She had a feeling that he was leaving a lot out, but then again, so did she. Her story could take up a whole afternoon. Though, written down, the length of her story could fill the pages of the fourth book of the Harry Potter series (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). She didn't think on that long however as she found a sudden change in Aeryn. It was like Matt had said a magic word or something because he was standing stark still. It took half a second for the charming sound-powered mutant to return to reality, but those few moments didn't escape Kylora's memory.

A smile played across the interdimensional refugee as she heard Aeryn talk about herself. The west coast bit caught her attention and she made a mental note to ask him later where exactly he was from. As for his mention of being apart of a band with a contract and everything, Kylora couldn't say that she was surprised.

'He must be the writer of the group,' she thought to herself with a grin,'That would explain his writing earlier...'

The exotic brunette watched as Aeryn started to show the two of them what he could do. She could feel the sound gathering around his hand, but only because of her elfen blood and hearing. She then watched as a shockwave was released from his outstretched palm. Then all the sound that had disappeared in the room during Aeryn's demonstration rushed back like a whoosh in her ears. She never showed this though.

She was used to this by now. She didn't have as acute hearing as Wolverine and his family, but it was definately above average for a human. Normal elves actually could hear just as well, if not better than, as Wolverine. However, she only had a drop of elfen blood, thus making her's not as acute. This was a blessing that she counted everyday whenever she thought of all the loud sounds that could potentially make her deaf if she had such acute hearing.

"Nice demonstration," she said to Aeryn as she grabbed a plate from the cupboard, "Me, I can only speak to animals and plants. Oh! And I can also do this..."

The elfen-eared beauty put her plate down as she walked toward the half dead potted violet on the windowsill beside the sink. She then touched one hand to her emerald leaf charm on its stirling silver chain while the other hand touched the half dead violet on the stem. Her eyes started to glow at first as she concentrated on the violet. Then the glow swelled to envelope her entire body in a glow the color of newly blooming leaves. Pretty soon the glow began to envelope the violet. Then, right before their very eyes, the violet started to not wilt anymore. It became healthier. The color was going from dull to vibrant as flower was slowly restored to health.

The green glow started to recede as she slowly ground the energy that she had expended into the plant, a smile forming across her face as the last of the glow completely faded away. She then cupped her hands under the water faucet after turning it on, pouring the contents upon the newly restored violet before turning off the water.

A small blush appeared on her face as she realized just how much she had showed off this time. She felt good at that moment. It had been so long since she'd done something like this and now that she'd done it, she felt exhilarated. It was just knowing that she had restored a life to health that made her feel so good.

All these feelings and thoughts went through her head as she went to pick up her plate and got out the right number of silverware out for three people...

No time for talk - Me Eating
“Oh, and I can do this.” Standing with his arms reaching out into nowhere as the new arrival was, Matt expected something visible to occur every second, a ball of fire maybe, or something similarly flashy. When none such thing occurred, he tilted his head to the side, a slight frown appearing on his features as he tried to figure out what it was Aeryn was exactly doing. When the world lost its sounds, the light-elemental had a vague idea of what the others powers included, though it did indeed take him a bit to figure out what exactly had changed. The frown becoming deeper, Contrast had a hard time realising that it was indeed something that had went missing and not as expected something that appeared which the singer was demonstrating to them. The usefulness of his powers were displayed quite effectively shortly after Matt had wondered how this ability could be used in battle, despite knowing that only a small percentage of students actually ended up on a team.

His admittedly quite pointless chain of thoughts had just found a more or less satisfying end as Kylora seemed to have seen her moment as come and showed what she was able to do. Judging from her facial expression as the pot flower had returned to full strength, Matt guessed that the otherworldly girl felt strongly connected with nature, something the other abilities she had mentioned only appeared to confirm. He found it interesting how so very often a mutant’s powers bore a resemblance to their character, as if one had developed in accordance to the other. The quite philosophic question as to which of the two traits had been the first to emerge, however, the black-haired young man was not in the mood to debate.

“Interesting,” he said with a more or less genuine smile, only feeling a light sting of envy at Aeryn’s powers who seemed so much more impressive, or rather useful, than his own. From what he had seen, Gaia appeared to be more on his “level”, the old pattern of thinking of people in terms of how much power they had showing shortly before he angrily pushed it away. Inwardly rolling his eyes at himself, Matt grabbed a plate, determined not to let such thoughts have the better of him. This was not the HFC and he was not what or, more importantly, who he had used to be.
“Cheers for cooking, mate, I’m starving!” His grin a real one, Contrast realised that the sandwich from before really hadn’t quelled his hunger and cheerfully began to tuck into the pasta.

The thought of telling or even showing the others what abilities he possessed was discarded a glimpse of a moment after it had come up. Just because his inferiority complex was getting better didn’t mean it was gone and there definitely better things he could imagine than being patronised by… well, anyone for that matter. Fair enough, neither of the two knew what his powers had been like before his nice little encounter with A.Corp., yet to Matt, that was rather even more of a reason to stay clear of any sort of demonstration than a comforting thought. *Seems I really am still stuck in the same old pattern…* The mental sigh went by unheard as he once again realised that knowing a problem didn’t automatically have to mean that you could also solve it.

Re: Enter the Chef
Aeryn couldnt help but grin at the young elfin-featured beauty. Such wonderful powers, to restore life to something, that was something amazing. His heart skipped a beat as he caught her gaze when she turned around. He quickly turned down to his food and began eating quickly, though still with tact and his learned mannerisms. He looked between the two, watching there reactions as they tasted the food. It appeared to him that they enjoyed it, so he was a bit more compfortable again. His nerves calmed once again, and he looked to Kylora.

"Hey, if you are interested, my band and I are playing a show at the Club9 tonight. It would be really great if you wanted to come. You can come too matt." he said, turning to the young mutant at the other side of the table.

"I mean, were nothing spectacular, but we make for a fun show, and besides, it would be cool to see a familiar face at the show."
he said, smiling broadly, his deep iridescent gaze turning back to Kylora. :Maybe she'll come: he thought to himself. : -->>: yeah, if she's not with her boyfriend, meh, your to optimistic: he argued with himself.

"Hows the food?"
he said, gobbling his own dish as he waited a response.

Re: Enter the Chef
A smile reached the young bewitching beauty's face as she tasted the chicken alfredo. She really hadn't had good alfredo in a while and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. She thought of what she had done earlier with the plant. Really, the plant had been watered a bunch lately, in an apparent attempt to keep it from dying, and all she'd done was help speed up the growing process so that the plant became as healthy as it would had it had a few more weeks time and plenty more water.

Aeryn's voice cut through her thoughts as she heard him ask her to the concert he was playing later that night. She noticed that he had invited Matt as an afterthought to make it seem like he was asking both of them just in case she was into someone else. A grin crossed her face as she pondered this before speaking.

"Wow, already here for a week and I'm making friends in the morning and going to a concert tonight," she said in a cheerful voice, resisting the urge to ask the question 'Are you asking me out?' point-blank. Instead she followed up with,"Of course, usually one goes to concerts with friends on a date, but I really haven't had time to get involved with anyone yet and only met a few possible friends this morning...That and you two. I'd say I'm doing well in this reality."

Kylora sent a smile at Aeryn then, her emerald gaze catching his own stunning blues, hoping that he got the hint about her not being attached. She knew she was being bold, but really, she'd been bold for a while now and this reality was a new beginning for her. Anything could happen; and if something good should come her way, she was gonna try and make the most of it.

"The alfredo's good, by the way," the raven-haired mutant said as she finished up,"Its nice to have some good pasta after those missions this weekend..."

A frown marred her stunning features as she remembered the weekend's mission. Their team had done okay, all things considered, but they had lost a teammate, Connor. She remembered the night they'd lost him...She'd been on watch with Julian, talking and such. They hadn't even heard him slip outside the camp. Kylora's normally good multi-tasking capabilities had somehow been dampened by a combination of sleepiness and good conversation, making her unable to sense the kidnapping until it was too late. They'd been able ascertain what had happened, but nothing else so far.

Kylora shook her head then, casting those forlorn thoughts away. Though she was upset that one of her team members were missing, she knew that the teachers were doing everything they could to find him. She knew that if anyone could find him, they could. Right now, she had to stay focused on the present and not on the past two days...

Re: Enter the Chef
(OOC: Sorry, I'm really too uninspired for the thread ATM plus Contrast *is* quite superfluous here *lol*, so I'll just back out and leave the two love birds to'emselves :evil )

The pasta was indeed impressive, something Matt didn't have the slightest problem admitting. Well... actually, he didn't really admit anything, too busy eating as he was, but then again, isn't that the greatest compliment for a chef anyway? The way Aeryn had prepared everything actually did have something professional about it, yet seeing as the two were perfectly fine dancing around the one subject they both really wanted to bring up, he wasn't overly motivated to ask. Then again, it wasn't like Josh was just visiting, so if he really wanted to there'd be plenty of time to ask some timr later.

Not talking and his mind anything but busy was bound to let his thoughts wander back to the weekend, funnily enough at about the same time Gaia inwardly travelled back to the team missions. Or rather their end. A lot of things hadn't gone the way they had been planned - or so Matt guessed not really knowing what their leaders had had in mind. Considering Storm's reaction though, the Brotherhood appearing hadn't been part of the masterplan.

Wondering whether Aurora really was all right as Beast had claimed, Matt didn't notice he actually finished his pasta and took one or two spoonful of air before wondering what exactly was feeling different. "Oh..." And again a clever remark from his side. Slowly he began to realise why people like Aeryn were that close to getting off with a girl on the first day of their arrival and he... didn't.

When his com badge went off, he was for once thankful for the disturbance, replying almost too quickly, hastily even, hoping the relief wasn't overly present in his voice. Another new arrival? "Her name is Faith Rodgers, she's waiting at the front door." Matt nodded, something most people did when talking to someone who couldn't see them anyway; an almost instinctive reaction that was hard to get rid of.

"Thanks for the meal, 'twas awesome. Gotta run though... see ya around." The black-haired boy flashed the other two a grin and was already out of the door before he remembered something and popped his head back in. "Oh and Kylora, you don't mind answering questions and such if Aeryn's got any, do you? Cheers." The suggestive nature of his grin was hidden well enough by the simple fact that Matt hurried to get to the front hall. How very convenient. For all parties concerned, as he reckoned.

The sunlight dancing in through the window seemed to shine a little bit brighter as Aeryn caught the hint from Kylora. His teeth shone brightly as he flashed her a smile. Well at least you might have a chance... his thoughts teasing him while the trio finished their meal.

Thanks for the meal, 'twas awesome. Gotta run though... see ya ar."[/i] Aeryn smiled as the boy stepped outta the room, content that his cooking was approved.

Once the dark-haired young man had left, there was a moment of silence as Aeryn quickly but gracefully swallowed the rest of his pasta. His attention turned back to the beauty who now sat here alone with him, his eyes casting over her, making a mental picture, logging every aspect of her in the great library that was his memory.

Well, it's nothing major, we're not famous or anything, but we put on a pretty good show every once in a while." he said with a wry smile. His pallate yearned for something refined, and his eyes wandered around the room, wondering if perhaps wine was something that could be procured on the school premises. Something for later, I suppose.

" So can I take that as a yes?" he asked cheerfully, a childish smile dancing across his face.

(*hum* sorry I took so long getting back. Ran into more trouble with this wound, didnt heal well, had to go back to the hospital for a few days. Its a little post, but I will get back into the swing of things. Glad to be back though, to say the least.)
