Re: Thantos and General Science! ((Friday March 16th, Open!)
"Me? I have the sense of direction of a goddess." Some sort of impressed look appeared on Matt's features. Albeit a so obviously faked one, it resumed their teasing little charade seamlessly. Contrary to popular belief, there weren't many people who could do a proper back and forth of silly answers, but Xavier's had apparently just gained another student raising the percentage of those who could. And in a positive way, thankfully! Encountering people of the likes of Frost and Madison had temporarily made the Gold Strike Force member appreciate people completely oblivious to the existence of irony. Survival instinct as you probably called that.
The thought of her standing on the sports field holding one of the dining hall trays in her hands and looking around for the queue made him chuckle. His hyperactive imagination continued spitting out scenarios even when Isaura continued talking. Images of her asking some players whether they wanted their desserts popped up and made it hard for the light-elemental to focus on what she was saying next. It felt like a heroic deed to him to have actually managed to do so. Considering his easily distracted nature, it probably really was one, actually.
"Matt...," he introduced himself in reply to her words, "Join the club if you are directionally challenged. We do field trips on Saturdays." A mock serious expression lingered on his face for a moment as he did his best not to chuckle again and keep up the seriousness. "Therapy, you see."
It was then that he noticed it had got rather chilly on the corridor, eyes of misty green checking for an open window out of reflex. A passing glance met Frost's form and remained there for a second as he wondered whether it was maybe her influence again.
The figure shrouded in dark flames was too unreal for Matthias to notice right away, a quite common phenomenon of the human brain, even if you lived at a place full of mutants with the most diverse of abilities. What you didn't expect to see oftentimes tended to slip your attention, but in the light-elemental's case it was only temporary, a somewhat thoughtful look crossing his features as his gaze wandered over Aiden again. What was going on there? An attack? Was this mighty aura just show or an actual telltale sign for the extend of this guy's powers?
The opening of the classroom door served once more as a means of distraction. "Wanna go inside?" he asked, motioning towards the entrance, and continued with a side glance at Max and Riley. "We could dodge those missiles and admire the beauty that is our general science room!" This whole thing was really getting ridiculous and he didn't really feel like watching that cockfight. There were several others already entering the room, and he set about following them, a questioning glance sent Isaura's way to see whether she did too.
Re: Thantos and General Science! ((Friday March 16th, Open!)
It was like those warnings on side view mirrors. People might be nicer than they appear. Isa was more than grateful that there were people in this class who didn’t threaten to make popsicles of people’s valuables. A warmer personality was welcoming. Somewhat knowing one person in class was better than knowing none. The trade of names seemed to finalize the “acquaintance” status.
"Matt...," he introduced himself in reply to her words, "Join the club if you are directionally challenged. We do field trips on Saturdays."
Ha, that would have been a crazy club. “I’ll think of it if I can find my way to the next meeting,” Isa gave a light laugh. Like the blind leading the blind. Field trips could include a bunch of lost souls, scrutinizing inverted maps and tapping furiously at compasses. If there were any hiking trips in the near future, she’d have to begin preparing her bag of bread crumbs.
She was sensitive to temperature, despite her thick coat. Like a light breeze, the cold began to irritate her cheek as she glanced in the general direction it came. A small gesture, part because it just wasn’t worth it to be cold and part in a show of irritation, Isa warmed the area around her by a couple degrees. There, that was a little better. Frown melting into a tiny grin as her fingers warmed, Isa raised an eyebrow in the direction of the chill. If someone insisted on playing with temperature, then she might as well be comfortable too. With a satisfied look, she crossed her arms and threw a nonchalant look at Matt.
Somehow, in a place like this, things like a boy flaring in darkness didn’t surprise her. Interested her, maybe worried her a little that something would happen, but it didn’t surprise her. More and more she was beginning to wonder if bad feelings between people was common here. Clueless as another potential argument flared, Isa frowned and made a mental note to not get on anyone’s bad side. Make friends, not enemies. Especially if those enemies could potentially blow you up in a blink of an eye. And hopefully her thoughts stayed as exaggerations.
An open door, both an entrance, maybe an exit for conflicts of the halls. Few arguments continued when a teacher was present. If theirs would ever show. Or would whatever was going on simply follow into class? Considering one student was already arguing with who she assumed was a teacher’s assistant, Isa figured the latter would occur.
"Wanna go inside? We could dodge those missiles and admire the beauty that is our general science room!"
Right, right…it was a suggestion she liked. With a smile of relief, she nodded, trying to keep her eyes from flickering to Riley and Max. Being a little immature, weren’t they? How did she end up in a class where everyone could claim an enemy?
“Couldn’t be a more astonishing room,” Isaura followed him with the full intent on leaving behind the hallway. Eyeing a window seat for a moment, she held back for a moment to see if seats were assigned. “A genuine classroom desk? This IS an impressive room!” In a fake look of admiration, she traced a hand on one surface and sat for a moment before standing. “Sturdy, wood and metal, would this seat be taken or should I try out a few more?” Pretending she ignored anything more than friendly exchanges outside was better than thinking too much on them. Besides, it wasn’t her business.
Re: Thantos and General Science! ((Friday March 16th, Open!)"…Do… uh…" She rocked backwards and forwards slightly upon the balls of her feet, her eyes looking up into his with a rather coy expression upon her face. Fiddling slightly with the edge of her sleeve she hoped he was going to ask her around for dinner. It had been some time since the two of them had eaten together. She could remember times when he'd made her dinners on a weekly basis, but those times seemed so long ago when she thought of them now. "I’m going to make chicken kiave… chips, salad… cream caramel for desert… I think that’s what it was called… if you want something to do we can take Katie to the gardens and out in the barbeque area, there’s those gas heaters so we’ll be warm." It certainly didn't start out like an invitation for her to join him, but by the end of his speech he'd seemed to be assuming that she was coming around his to eat... if popping across the hall could be counted as "going around his".
A pleased smile formed upon her lips as she listened to him talk, beating down the desire to start jumping up and down on the spot in uncontained excitement. "Or if you want something else…" She looked a little bewildered as her ex leaned over and touched her arm, excusing himself elegantly from their conversation. And then ... he was gone. Her eyes followed him as he made her way over towards no other than Max Chadstone. A frown creased her pretty forehead as she caught sight of the other man .. there had never been anything other than hatred between them. She should have guessed that if there was trouble about that Max would be at the bottom of it somewhere.
The displeased expression on her face deepened as she watched the encounter between the two young men unfold, her nose wrinkling slightly as she caught Max making kissing motions in the air at her. Why did Max have to bait Riley all the time, she was sure the two of them could coexist if Max would just let things lie. But then she reminded herself that being considerate was hardly Max. "Hey! Knock it off Max, before I freeze-dry what you consider to be god’s gift to humanity!" Moving past Max she clipped him smartly around the back of the head with the small blue notebook she was carrying. She gave Frost an appreciative smile as she past the girl. Pushing past another couple of people she stalked into the classroom, tossing the notebook down onto the desk and dropped into her usual chair, near the back of the classroom and next to the window.
ooc: I apologise to everyone for the length of time it's taken me to post, sorry but things have been hectic for me recently.
Paige:How can I have feelings for someone who's not even real?
Re: Thantos and General Science! ((Friday March 16th, Open!)
At Frost's outburst Riley found himself feeling as if, for one of the first few times, someone was helping stand up against Max's attacks on him instead of just all sitting back and watching someone take it out on Riley as if it were some form of entertainment. The only thing that kept Riley in check was that, just as Aiden earlier, Riley would hardly want someone getting into too much trouble over it and Aiden's threat aimed at the indignant youth was certainly something Riley could see as being a problem for the other student later on.
However, it was Catherine's retaliation that caught Riley off guard, the slap of her notebook against the back of Max's head that caused Chadstone to flinch and cast a look of irritation at Catherine. There was a pause before Riley smirked at Max and decided to leave things be, quickly collecting his things and following Catherine into the classroom as well. She was always full of surprises and they didn't get into situations where Catherine really had to stand up for Riley or double team often, though when she did stand up for him it was always so brave of her. This time it wasn't as dangerous as facing the Initiative but it was almost funny with the ease in which she smacked the womanizer.
The former agent followed Catherine to where she sat, taking a seat beside her in the large room and dropping his books down on the table before him. Writing book flipped open to a new page, most of which were already pre-lined with a border. A ruler, plus a green, red, blue and black pen were placed next to his books, the pencil case sitting pushed in front of him at the edge of the table. The date was neatly written in the corner with his green pen, a title written in capitols at the top of the page right in the center and two green lines were drawn beneath the title with the rule keeping the lines straight. "Chapter Four Summery" was written on the board, the class would focus on going over what they'd talked about and learned for the forth chapter, which involved cosmetics and its early forms. Jean had said they'd make their own soaps today and while it wasn't the most awe enticing of things at least they got a break from writing for a bit.
His hazel eyes lifted only as the others found their seats, Max joined the back row but sat on the other end of the room with his group, slightly more subdued as they talked amongst themselves. The tip of Riley's pen tapped the desk three times lightly, his head turning towards Catherine to continue what he had started before being irritably interrupted.
"So.." Riley began, his voice soft though not exactly a wisper, "..would you like to join me for an early dinner out in the barbeque area?" At least with everyone focused on some one else at this point it meant Riley could try and invite Catherine out again, he'd still feel very awkward if she said no and so he'd have preferred going someone more private, only it was hard getting her alone and it really didn't make things any easier.
Re: Thantos and General Science! ((Friday March 16th, Open!)
Earnest nodding accompanied the new girl's words, Matt seeing to fulfilling his role as proud tourist guide the best he could. The occasional 'Yes' or 'Indeed' completed this impersonation that was such a convenient way out of the rather awkward scene they had escaped from. For a moment, it seemed to him as if he could still sense the other newbie's grim aura, but that was probably nothing but his imagination. What was it that guy had been emanating? As dark and cold as the touch of death...
The thought slipped his mind as he suddenly realised there had been an actual question in Isaura's words, craftily hidden among her joking comments. "Nah, just pick whichever you want," he shrugged. Personally, Matt preferred having one set place to go to simply because a bit of regularity in his otherwise rather odd life was a nice thing to have, but technically it didn't matter at all. "There're some people who will always go to their seats, but nobody will throw a fit when you occupied 'their' spot." And then there were those who would bite your head off if you told them that some seat was occupied. Some poor fool had tried that on Frost once and probably regretted it still.
He just wanted to pass on that extra bit of information, when he realised what was going on and paused for a moment. "For something that's uncomplicated I'm talking a lot about it, eh?" he asked with a slightly embarrassed chuckle, casting a sideglance at those entering. Were they taking their quarrel inside now, or was it over? He didn't know any of those involved closely enough to judge, though Anna usually didn't seem to care enough for anyone to continue an argument longer than absolutely necessary. Passing comments was of course an entirely different matter...
For now, however, everything seemed relatively peaceful, a fact he found rather relieving. Being in some kind of arguement was already bad, but personally Contrast found not being directly involved even more awkward. It made it difficult to know how to react. Should you say something, mediate, ignore the whole thing? It was a thin line to tread, so he thought, and as Isaura was new to Xavier's, there was also the added fact that in a way, it embarassed him she had been exposed to that display of petty contention.
"Wonder where Mrs Summers is...," he muttered, more to himself than to Isa though it could well be replied to without seeming off. "It's not really like her to be late for class." Despite all the things she had to juggle, Phoenix usually managed them all with seeming effortlessness. What was different today...?
