Re: Into the shadows, where we belong... (MATURE CTN!)
From where Max stood there was a massive shadow which was cast over him, and while being a child of no more then 8 or 9 years, there was a deep sense of awareness in the youths eyes, a knowing of danger that lurked around all corners. The kind of danger that only experience could explain, and as the shadow seemed to engulf more and more of the area around Max, the ground shook with every step the giant figure took. Loud groaning rumbled the earth beneath Max’s feet and for some reason, the boy felt he could talk to the massive monster before him.

I’m sorry about what happened, He called out, which silence only followed, and for some reason, large red eyes seemed to be glowing and glaring down at him, There wasn’t any needle and thread, the nice maid was on break and the guy in her place just threw you away, A loud roaring growl hissed out as the giant figure seemed to draw its face right towards Max, with a sudden speed that froze the boy to the spot. Two large pairs of white wide eyes stared at him, lifelessly with two black dots seeming to peer through the boy and into a nothingness beyond. Soft brown fur covered the face, with what seemed like two ears jutting out and a pair of tiny cream horns. There was a beak which made it hard to tell if it was frowning or not, some bizarre cross between an overweight owl and a bear. The hand, or wing it seemed, had some soft claws on it, reaching out to scoop the boy up… squeezing Max’s small frame…

Max jerked awake, lifting his head dazed to stare across at Matt who slept still, a single arm tossed over Max’s chest, which was carefully moved aside to allow the groggy teen a chance to slip his legs out and sit up. Images of the dream he had just woken up from drifted back slowly, odd enough for Max to scoff it off with a soft airy mixture of a sigh and a laugh. Whatever caused the dream was beyond Max, though he recognized the toy from when he was much younger, its head had been torn off, how exactly Max had never discovered but his parents said it had been a resulting accident with one of their guests dogs. It had been a gift from some family member or another, though from Max’s toddler years, the one toy that the young boy had felt safe with and liked to drag around everywhere, one of the few stable things he had when travelling from one place to another on business ventures with his parents when it was important for the ‘family’ to be seen together. Max had been about eight when it was torn up, and furious that the cleaner just tossed it out, even if the stuffing had mostly been ripped out, the head semi torn off with only a small section still attacked, Max had hoped to keep it and find someone to fix it. But for a boy who had everything, and could replace anything that was broken, it seemed like a rather silly thing to keep hold off, even Max’s parents thought the same, so neither bothered to find the ragged toy that had been thrown away. It took probably a year for Max to totally get over it, sure he didn’t always let it on, there had been times that he really missed that familiar face, even if it wasn’t the most snugly looking of toys, his mother had never liked it.

There was a sudden knock at the outer door, the sound causing slight panic in Max who grabbed at his discarded jeans from the night before, shoving them on as the knock came again, and quietly nudging at Matt. "I’m just going to see who’s at the door," There was an uneasiness to his voice, though he stood up and moved to the door of his bed room without hesitation, and closing it quickly behind him. Walking across the lounge area, that’s when he hesitated, glancing around as if paranoia had struck him, the last thing he wanted were rumours’ starting up, that was the last thing he needed right now, more stress and more worries and more fights.

"Who’s there?" Max called, shuffling on the spot for a moment nervously, wondering what it might look like if Matt wandered out to see what’s going on. "Andrew, sir," Came the call back, which oddly enough eased Max’s mind greatly, Andrew was definitely more welcoming then any of his fathers men… or his father himself. "I thought you would like something to nibble," The gesture confused Max, who stared a moment at the closed door, there were people paid to bring the food up, so why Andrew had done it left a rather large question mark. With a gentle twist of the doorknob, Max pulled it out, staring at the cart laden with food, a large bowl filled with various cereals, fresh fruits and pancakes and an assortment of spreads with muffins and scones… as if someone wasn’t entirely sure what to grab and just grabbed a bit of everything.

"Usually I just have toast or something…" Cereal too if Max wasn’t in the mood for toast, though Andrew wheeled in the food, dressed in a pair of black slacks and a white shirt, usually Andrew took he night shift of the door, so he must have just been getting off, there was a slightly tired yet warm look about the elder mans gruff features.

"Ah yes, but you see… I remembered the last power out we had, the whole street was out for hours," It took a moment, but Max recalled it was about the time he was relatively knew to Xavier’s school, around fifteen years old and avoiding classes for a few days, he’d stayed up here and some accident cut the local power on the street. It was in the afternoon some point, Max didn’t remember a lot, but he knew Andrew had been nearby when it happened, and man had escorted Max hand in hand up to the boy’s room. Max had honestly almost completely forgotten it. "Plus, I remember you came with that friend of yours, and I don’t know what he likes," After a pause of Max staring, mind and features blank yet part of him wondering if some excuses ought to be thrown out about now to explain why his ‘friend’ spent the night… instead Max gave a rather uncertain ‘oh’ which seemed to draw an awkward (at least for Max it was) silence. "I’ll go see if he’s done in the bathroom," A nervous smile was offered, though Andrew was carefully moving each item from various trays to Max’s dining table, while only in his early fifties the years on the streets had been hard on the man’s body and he still felt a stiffness in his joints at times.

Max, on the other, retreated to the door which cut off his bedroom, giving a brief knock and opening it up, poking his head in just as Andrew’s voice spoke up again, "I also have Hailey’s report on last night’s accident, I said I’d save her the walk and show it to you myself, I hope that’s fine," Turning his face aside, Max gave a ‘sure’ in reply, not sounding at all bothered. If matt could manage to remember one of his earlier visits, one of Max’s employee’s had insisted Andrew stay outside the door in the cold, which Max had not taken kindly too and fired, promoting an eager yet red headed conservative young woman in his place. "Do you want to come out and have something to eat with us? I think Andrew robbed a cake and treats shop on his way up here," Chadstone humoured lightly, and Andrew heard the comment which was evident by the deep chuckle that followed.
