"Catherine.." Her eyes remained locked on his, didn't she have a right to know what had happened to her? Why wasn't anyone telling her what was wrong with her? Maybe something really bad had happened to her ... perhaps she was dying, that would be one reason that they might not want to tell her what was happening to her. It was frightening in hospital but it made it even worse that she didn't know why she was here. "If we talk about this you'll get upset and they'll make me leave.." He was holding her hand cradled in his larger ones ... was he really planning on sitting here all evening and not telling her what had happened? There was no way she could even begin to guess what had happened to her, she thought Jean was guarding them against the Initiative by making sure that everyone who came near them wasn't affiliated. "I don't want to leave."
"But you don't have to worry, you're safe now, and they said you're recovering well, that you will be fine." Safe? She was trying to run through a list of possibilities of what it was that could be wrong with her each of them progressivley worse.
"Besides, there's plenty of time to talk about that later when you're better, I promise." That wasn't what she wanted .... she wanted to know what was wrong with her, it was really frightening not knowing why you were in hospital. She looked away from Riley, over at the pale wall. She'd rather be told what had happened than be kept ignorant.
'Have I had my appendics out or something?' There was a pause and her voice dropped a little. 'I know I've had an opperation haven't I?' She could hear the voices of Penny and Riley's Grandad talking outside. Perhaps if they came in they'd tell her what was wrong with her. She felt a sudden surge of anger against Riley, it was his job to care about her but he wouldn't even tell her why she was here.
Cat: It feels like my world is slipping through my fingers and I don't know how to hold onto it
Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?'Have I had my appendics out or something?' Why did she have to keep asking him? Couldn’t she just wait till she was better… so that Riley was able to at least think of how he can explain to her that because of his involvement with the Initiative their baby was murdered? 'I know I've had an opperation haven't I?' Why was she acting as if she didn’t remember anything, why hadn’t anyone at least told her what happened? it was like they were purposefully trying to make things harder for Riley. Slowly his hands pulled away from hers, he could tell by the look in her eyes she was becoming impatient with him, why did she have to push this? Couldn’t she even tell it was hurting him… did she even care, how can she act like this, now of all times, why couldn’t she just do him this one favor and not force him to explain things any further? His hands awkwardly rested on his thighs as he stared down at his lap, avoiding now looking at her.
”You had an operation to repair the damage caused by a single shot from a shotgun, the perpetrator was disabled before any further damage could occur and has been sent to Xavier’s for further study… he wasn’t human, it’s why he got so close to us undetected.” She was forcing him to respond, and because he didn’t want to talk about it the tone of voice instinctively took on a more formal attitude as if replying to a demand from a higher-ranking officer demanding to know what had gone wrong during a mission. Though he lost the tone for the last part of what he was saying, more quiet and filled slightly with guilt, it also proved Riley was a whole lot more casual with Catherine then he usually was with people he worked with, since he normally used really simple words with her and his friends.
Right now he wanted to just get up and walk off, out of this room, away from her, from her painful questions and insensitive attitude towards the fact he didn’t want to answer her, he wasn’t going to go into the topic of the baby, besides, if she did, he’d play dumb and act as if he doesn’t know anything, that way she won’t keep insisting on harassing him about it. The tips of his fingers rubbed at his right eye, both his eyes were slightly red from both his terrible night’s rest and the fact he had woken up in tears at some point after a nightmare. There was a part of Riley that was terrified if she kept pushing him he’d crumble apart and then what use would he be? She’s the one lying in a bed and he had to be strong, but he couldn’t be if she kept nudging him closer and closer to the brink of tears and despair.
”Mum and dad are on their way, they should be here soon.” It was obviously a weak attempt to shift the topic onto something else, his hand busying itself by brushing through his hair that had dried without being combed, giving a slightly ruffled look to the style.
Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?”You had an operation to repair the damage caused by a single shot from a shotgun, the perpetrator was disabled before any further damage could occur and has been sent to Xavier’s for further study… he wasn’t human, it’s why he got so close to us undetected.” She'd been shot? How comes she couldn't remember it? Surley she should be able to remember something like that... she tried to strain back her memory but all she could remember was going into the restraunt and sitting down. It was probable she'd remember it given time. The beeping from the machines increased slightly. He sounded so standoffish with her when he was speaking, perhaps he was angry for her keeping on asking him what was wrong. But it was so frightening to be in a place like this and not know what was wrong with her. At least now she could start to come to grips with what had happened to her.
”Mum and dad are on their way, they should be here soon.” Her face seemed to be struggling for an expression to the news she'd just been shot. After a moment she seemed to blank it out as if he'd never told her anything. If she couldn't cope with the news then she'd ignore it.
'Are they going to take me home?' There was a rather whistful tone about her voice. She knew there was no chance that she'd be allowed to go home yet, she could hardly even move without it hurting. She'd be transfered out of intensive care tomorrow though and given a couple more days she'd be on the mend. She closed her hand a little around Riley's her eyes looking over at the glass of water that was on the side.
'Can I have a drink please?' Even though she was being given fluids through her drip she still felt like drinking every now and again. She hoped the request would help break the ice that seemed to have formed since she'd pushed him for an answer on what had happened to her.
Cat: It feels like my world is slipping through my fingers and I don't know how to hold onto it
Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?'Are they going to take me home?' He didn't reply to her question, it felt like yet another attack on him, another thing he wasn't sure how to reply other then with a blunt 'no'. The hazel eyes dropped down at the feel of her hand closing a little firmly about his own, he felt sick, as if he was getting a headache, his stomach was all notted up and his chest felt so tight. 'Can I have a drink please?' His eyes turned over towards the water, soon followed by his hand reaching out and picking it up so that he could hand it over to her.
It was even more painful because he had been in the room when her heart had stopped, then they had taken him away, what if she had died? He wouldn't have been able to be there with her, he wouldn't have been the last thing she sees, instead she would have been alone with strangers in a cold room, her body ripped open and exposed.. It was not how he wanted her to die, if death was to come he wanted it to be quick and painless and bloodiless, her body whole and clean.
"Do you need help?" Remembering the day before that the nurse had helped her drink, Riley wondered if she still needed that help. He wouldn't mind if she said yes, in fact that'd mean he could get closer to her, hold her a little more, hospitals creeped him out a little, he wouldn't mind focusing more attention on her.
Everything was so bright, it reminded him too much of the Initiative, with every corner he turned he always half expected to walk into someone he once knew from there. Catherine may not like it, but at least she was brave enough to stay, Riley was going to escape the instant he was left alone and it wouldn't matter if he had been told Catherine and his parents were right outside the room waiting a few minutes to come in, he'd still flee. But also he wasn't in as painful a condition as Catherine, and if Riley just allowed his body a steady amount of time to relax and recover he'd eventually get better on his own.
But his parents wouldn't understand that, they'd think he was neglecting his medication and being irrisponsable about the serious matter, in truth he would be doing exactly that but Riley was lucky to have a lot of drugs and chemicals already inside him working hard to repair the damage done and strengthening his body once again.
Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?"Do you need help?" Riley picked up the glass that contained the water and passing it over to her. Even though she was in more pain today she felt less weak than she had yesterday. Her hand closed around the glass, she shook her head, feeling a ripple of pain from her stomach as she lifted her head and took a sip of water. A short moment later she let her head rest back down against the covers. She handed the glass back to Riley again, her lips parted slightly as she took a shakey breath. She wished he'd start talking, that way she could forget about some of the pain she was feeling.
Her eyes turned to look almost listlessly out of the window, but all she could see were the roofs of a few houses, the sky matched her mood, grey and dismal. A moment later she turned her attention back to Riley again, maybe if she asked him questions she'd begin to forget about her stomach.
'Did you say Heather had had her puppies yesterday?' There was a little smile offered to him. 'It's all a bit blurry at the moment, I don't think I was awake properly.' The hand that he didn't have hold of had her drip in rubbed over the bed clothes slightly, indicating how nervous she was. She'd learn that if she took it out they'd just put it back in again and she hated the feeling of the needle slipping into her

Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?'Did you say Heather had had her puppies yesterday?' There had been a long moment of silence in which Riley had been struggling desperately to figure out what he could talk with her about, everything in his mind went blank though resulting in him staring rather blankly at her stomach. At her question however he blinked and pulled his thoughts together, looking at her instead of the stomach that had once held a precious bundle of life that he had helped create.
'It's all a bit blurry at the moment, I don't think I was awake properly.' The smile comforted him slightly, but he still looked as if she was just speaking some strange dielect that he was having trouble understanding.
"Uh.." There was a short pause as he thought, well, he wasn't thinking, that was the problem, it gaze him a rather dazed look for a moment before he cleared his throat. "Oh, right, yeah.." Shifting about slightly he stared down at her hand, almost acting for a moment as if that's all he was going to say in reply to her question. It was just that... well Heath got to have her offspring, why couldn't Riley and Catherine have theirs? He felt crushed at the thought, and when he starts spoiling Katie and getting overly attached to the new puppy, Martha is going to start worrying over the fact he'll start acting at times as if Katie is the replacement for the child he lost.
"Seven all up, the smallest one is having trouble breathing though, the vet wasn't sure if she'll make it so Lillian, that's the vet mum knows, took her to get some help, but I'm going to swing by her practice to see if we can take the puppy home or not." There was a really hopeful tone in his voice, obviously he was really hoping the puppy would pull through alright. "I recorded them.. mum's bringing the camera if you want to see them, I forgot it behind yesterday.." His fingers seemed to have begun fidgeting with her fingers, the tip of his index finger running down each of her fingers in an attempt to preoccupy his mind.
"I called her Katie, the sick puppy.. the vet needed a name and it's all I could think of.. do you like it? I wasn't sure if you would.." His hands gently lifted her hand up a little, his body inching slightly closer to the bed, leaning a bit more forward so that he could rest his cheek against her palm for a short moment. His head was almost resting on the bed, so that he didn't move her hand about too much, he thought he'd never feel the warmth of her hands again, he thought she had left him alone in this world. It wasn't fair, why couldn't things go right for them? Why couldn't they for once just have a nice time together without something ruining it?
"I gave her your last name, I thought since you couldn't choose her first name maybe it would be nice to have your last name, it's just she needed to register the puppy.." He lifted his face up from beneath her hand, her touch slipping away from his skin, though his hands remained cradling her hand and he stayed close beside her. "We can re-register her under a different name if you don't like 'Katie Hall', it might take a while since there's all these other things.." Riley found it strange how pets had to have last names, but it made sense really, besides, he may have not been sure about the name, but it grew on him a little.. Maybe because it has her last name it just became more appealing for him, but there was the added fact that he was really longing for this puppy of theirs to pull through. After all, his parents said they could have one if there was anough, and there was, only the one that they would have been given was really sick.. it just didn't seem fair!
Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?
Her eyes closed for a short moment as a small stab of stronger pain lanced through her stomach. She hadn't eaten anything in ages but she just didn't feel hungry, not that there was much she could eat at the moment anyway. Her intestines were still inflamed and sensative so eating most thing would cause her some degree of pain. The nurses would try and persuade her to eat some bread soaked in milk later since she needed to start getting some nourishment so she could get better quicker.
"Uh.." There was the sound of him clearing his throat, the noise made her open her eys again, looking up at him. He looked so worried and she wanted to hug him and stop him from feeling so down. But at the moment it pretty much hurt to move. "Oh, right, yeah.." It didn't seem fair that as soon as she got ill the puppies were born, she wanted to see them now, she wanted to know what colour they were. Her eyes looked over towards the window, hopefully she could go home soon though and then she could see them.
"Seven all up, the smallest one is having trouble breathing though, the vet wasn't sure if she'll make it so Lillian, that's the vet mum knows, took her to get some help, but I'm going to swing by her practice to see if we can take the puppy home or not." She looked back at Riley, how comes he was going to take the puppy home yet she had to stay here. There was a stressed expression on her face for a few moments before Riley continued talking. "I recorded them.. mum's bringing the camera if you want to see them, I forgot it behind yesterday.." A hopeful look sprang into her eyes, she hadn't really got much to look forwards to other than getting out of here and the small amount of time that she got to see Riley. Her gaze watched as his fingers messed with her hand. Not knowing in such a short space of time that she'd be splitting up with him.
"I called her Katie, the sick puppy.. the vet needed a name and it's all I could think of.. do you like it? I wasn't sure if you would.." He seemed really worried that she wouldn't like the name he'd picked for the puppy, she didn't really mind it. The name wasn't one she'd have picked for a dog herself, she didnt much like giving animals people names but it was alright.
'It sounds ok.' She gave him another little smile, watching as a small bird swooped past her window, she wished she could get out of here like that. She just wanted to fly away to somewhere were things didn't hurt and she could just be alone with Riley. She was sick of having people come in and feel like they had the right to prod and poke her, not to mention the fact she had a needle in her hand and was hooked up to all these machines.
"We can re-register her under a different name if you don't like 'Katie Hall', it might take a while since there's all these other things.." She wondered what other things there were? She hoped they let her out soon, her fingers closed a little around Riley's hand, watching as he rested his head down against her hand.

Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?
ooc: Sorry for the short and awful post, but I had a few posts I was behind in and mum just said we *may* go down to the beach for three days starting tomorrow, so I wanted to post incase we do, but I doubt we will go..
----------------
"As soon as they say you're allowed to leave we'll be taking you back to the farm, but it might be a few days, I'm not sure.." Riley stared down at her hand, he didn't think she'd like staying here, he knew he wouldn't like it, nothing good ever happened to him inside a medical room.
"As soon as you get better," He started, the tips of his fingers still stroking over her hand while he held it, "I'm going to hold you for hours," He gave a painful little smile as he looked up at her, though let his gaze drop away a moment later. "I don't think I'll ever want to let go of you," He didn't know what to expect over the next few weeks, but he had no idea of what was about to come, it would be something so unexpected that he wouldn't even be able to believe she really was going to leave him. He wouldn't really think it was true, though he would fear her departure every moment of each day that passed, once she does leave and doesn't come back for him, then he'll know for sure that she didn't love him any more.
At least that's how it'll appear to him, after all they've been through, now of all times wouldn't be something he thought would cause her to leave him, maybe she could have left him because he was dangerous to be around, because she got caught in the cross fire, but not because he did as he was told and didn't inform her of their childs death.

Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?"As soon as they say you're allowed to leave we'll be taking you back to the farm, but it might be a few days, I'm not sure.." He was rewarded by a hopeful little smile, as soon as the nurse came back she was going to ask how long it would be before she could go home. She'd rather be back at the farm even if she couldn't walk about, she hated hospitals, she associated them with her parents deaths and they had a hollow empty feel about them. She'd feel a little better when she was moved into a more general ward with other people and where people had made an effort in making the place feel more homley. There would be a television there as well which would keep her happy
"As soon as you get better," There was a little pause as he seemed to think over what he was telling her, his fingers stroking over her hand as he was talking to her. "I don't think I'll ever want to let go of you," Her fingers squeezed a hold of his hand a little tighter. She couldn't wait to get out of here, it felt like she'd been here days rather than hours. She watched the little screen on the heart monitor as the beeping increased slightly, indicating that she was getting excited over something.
'Riley ... when we go back to Xavier's we can get another room?' She was desperate not to go back to the ones she had been in, both of them. The one she'd shared with Riley and the more lonley one she had that was her own. She never even got around to completley moving out of her old one before everything had happened.

Re: Isn't it supposed to be 'Happy' New Year?
Lifting his eyes up the heart monitor, he glanced back towards the door, worried someone might come in rushing and saying he was working her up and she needs her rest.
'Riley ... when we go back to Xavier's we can get another room?' Turning his attention back towards Catherine, he offered her a brighter smile at the new topic of thought. A new room? That would be good, and they'll get one in the section they allow pets, and they'll make sure to get a larger room so that they... wait.. they weren't going to have a kid.. so they didn't need a larger room to house the infant when it was meant to be born around August sometime. The smile faultered for a moment at the realization that there had been a glimpse of a moment where he had forgotten about the pain of losing the baby, but now it was all flooding back, and he wasn't even allowed to tell Catherine so that they were both able to comfort each other in this loss.
"I'll organize a new room to be ready for when we get back, I'll ask some people if they'd help move some of our stuff so we don't go into an empty room." Even when he was hurting, as long as he had Catherine to support him he seemed to stick with his 'neat & order' routins, everything had to be clean and set up as soon as possible so that there was no problems for them when they arrived. As soon as Riley is on his own however, it'll take ages to do anything and the constant nagging voice of 'Why bother' and 'There isn't really any point' would continue to harrass his thoughts when trying to decide things.
"But you should get some rest now," He kept her talking long enough, his parents will arrive later and she can watch the puppies and she'll have some other visitors wandering through during the day, so he shouldn let her rest since the day ahead was full of worried and concerned guests from his family.
