finally, I'm a member!
Hi,

We are Bill and Karin and have recently taken delivery of a 2004, 357 RLDS. The unit was purchased from Skyline RV, in Darien Center, New York.

My wife and I are not new to RVing, having owned five other trailers. It all started witha used 17' La Strada. After two years of bumping into each other, we traded up to a 26' Dutchmen, with a real bed in it! We had several nice trips over the next couple of years and then ran into a campground we liked so much, we leased a seasonal site. Again, the 26' was just not big enough, so it was traded for a 32' Dutchmen.
Three years into our permanent site, we began to get the wanderlust again, so we purchased an 801 Dutchmen popup, for weekend quick trips. This little trailer served us very well until we sold the 32'. For two of us, the small pop up was fine, but when we took our grandson to Williamsburg, for a week, we again found our space very cramped. Back to Skyline again and a trade was made for a model 747 pop up, with a slide out dinette.
We really loved this camper, but it soon got a nickname, "The Rainmaker". In four camping seasons, we never made one completely dry trip. Most of the time we came home damp and had to set up the trailer in the barn to dry it out. This past summer clinched the decision to go back to a hard sided camper.
Having dealt with Skyline for the four previous trailers, and having been very happy with the price and service, we wanted to give them the first opportunity at getting us into a fifthwheel. We knew we didn't want another Thor owned unit and were afraid that Skyline would not have anything. Then we were introduced to Open Road, by Skyline. We breathed a sigh of relief.
The only other trailer that we had been interested in was the Glendale, Titanium.
This past Sept. we wnet to the Harrisburg RV Show and met one of the owners of Open Road/ Pilgrim. He talked with us for over three hours. The Monday following the show, we placed our order.
With the mild weather of the past couple of weeks, we have been packing the trailer and making it ours. Oh how we wish we could hitch up and hit the road. Unfortunately, that has to wait until April, for my Spring Break. I'm a school teacher! My wife retires the end of this month. I hope my retirement begins at the end of next school year.
I look forward to the exchange of ideas and info on this forum.

Bill, ( ratracer )

Hello to all
Bill and Fran from Gibbons Alberta (20 min. north of Edmonton). We purchased a 03, 316rls in May/03. Saw limited use this year as we were building a house and moving, hope to get out a lot more this coming season. There were some minor bugs with the new 5er but the dealer (Arr Kann, Edmonton) were very responsive. We are very impressed with our unit (had a 28ft entry level TT). We tow with an 03, Silverado Dmax/A. Towing is a breeze, my parking skills could use some improvement. I really enjoy this discussion site, we are fairly new to rving so probably can't add much but we are certainly getting a lot of useful info.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi! We're Mike and Connie from Colorado. We are new "Open Roaders" you might say. We just traded our TT for a fifth wheel 316RLDS-5 which is on order. Two weeks ago we almost bought a Montana, then we saw the Open Road and just knew we had to research it further. This and other forums relieved us of many concerns re: a new company with a new line of trailers. Starting in April and through October, we're usually out camping somewhere at least every other week. We're close to retirement and are really going to hit the road...spending several weeks in New England in the fall and in Arizona in our new Open Road in the winter sounds pretty darn good. It's great to find this forum and all of you. We're looking forward to learning more from you and sharing our Open Road experiences with you. Happy traveling!

We are new members too!
Hello to all,

We are Julie and Steven and will be taking delivery of a new 2003 leftover 357RLDS on Saturday 2/07/04. After much searching for the perfect fifth wheel, we think that we found it. We have been looking for about one year and have seen just about every trailer known to man!!! We really liked the Cedar Creek, but seeing the Open Road, just put that to shame. Our tow vehicle is a Ford F250 diesel 2004. We are really excited about the new trailer. Our old trailer was a Sunline 267SR 2001. Even though it is just the two of us now, since the "kids" are not interested in camping any longer, we decided to get the dream trailer. We are tired of upgrading and upgrading and finally decided to just get the one we really wanted. I hope this trailer is hyped up to be what everyone is saying on this forum. It is a really beautifully made rig. We will talk to you all soon and let you know how the walk-through goes.

Happy camping!

Welcome
Hello to all...We just bought a new Pilgram fifth wheel from Skyline Rv and Resort (Merry is familiar with the fine folks at this dealership. Red and Whitey). This will be our third unit bought from them, honest people without any BS that most dealers will give you, particularly with towing capacities, if you cant pull it they wont sell it to you. A couple of the salespeople told us that the Pilgrim was a lot more for the money than some of the more expensive units that they sell. And from what i have seen on the internet and from this forum I think we made a wise choice. Now if winter would just get moving along a little more quickly.

Re: Welcome
Hello all,
We are tim and lana. we have about 4 weeks till our 357 comes in. We traded a 03 29jbs citation for the 357. we like to travel but we also have seasonal site. The 357 is the second rv we have bought from the same dealer. These people want your biz for life. we ordered our 357 with every option except thremo pane windows. It was too hard to justfy the 1400.00 since we use the rig only 3 seasons. Im still not clear on some changes O/R has made to new 04's but I have E Mailed them with some questions in hopes that they have some answers soon. We like the idea of the rally and are looking at our scheduals now to see if its possible. Seems like a nice bunch of people on this forum and looking forward to typing to you. I run a bodyshop here in NE Illinois and have been around cars and trucks all my life as well as towed most everything out there. I am also a senior member of RV.NET. I have a different User on that though.
Thanks
Tim

:smokin Hello all, we are Ken & Nancy O'Dell from San Antonio, Texas. I,m retired Air Force (30 years all over the world) and Nancy is in real estate. We bought our 272rbs last summer and have only had time to use it on a couple of week long trips to the Texas coast. We are not new to RVing. started in 1971 in Wyoming with a 15 1/2 foot Teton trailer (yes, a Teton) and have had several others since then. The Open Road appears to be a real keeper.
If you haven't ever, you don't know
Greetings from Austin, TX, y'all! My name is Don, my wife, Brenda and our 10 year old son, Evan. We are anxiously awaiting delivery of our Open Road 369RBHS. This is our first 5th wheel, actually our first any type of RV.

I had researched for over a year and just knew that we'd be buying a Cardinal 312BH. Luckily for us, we decided to look over all of the displays at the Austin RV Show before talking to the Cardinal dealer. We had looked over the 340RBHS a couple of weeks prior to the show and we were very impressed with the unit. So impressed, we assumed it would be more expensive than the Cardinal we had in mind.

We met Russ Draper, the Open Road Regional Sales Manager at the show. Not only was the dealer's salesman very knowledgeable of his product, he was the epitome of no pressure. When I finally stumped him on a question, Russ was quick with the answer.

Long story short, we ordered our coach at the show and wish it would get here tomorrow! I'll be installing the Reese Signature Series 18K hitch in my truck once the rails arrive. I look forward to meeting other Open Road owners once we hit the road.

Hi everybody.

My name is Jim. My wife is Susie.

We just ordered the Open Roads 357. This is exciting stuff as we cannot wait to get the unit. Probably around 7 weeks. It is susposed to be the new one with the upgrades.

We tent camped for years in the 1960's and 1970's in the US and in our travels through Europe.

We had a TT for several years in the early '70's and sold it to go back to the tent. However, we have not camped for about 25 years.

This is going to be a new experience all over again. We call it Pre-retirement.
