forums, categories and bios
Hiya!

I'd like to propose a reduction of the current number of forums and categories. While making a stand on moving accepted applications and admin stuff to the very bottom (something that's more of a suggestion.. >> .. <<) I noticed we had 19 categories and 128 forums 41 of which have never been used (excluding the dorm forums) so what I'd propose would be the merging of some of those together... e.g. Scimitar and the Universe category could become one with 2 subforums (Scimiatr, Rest of the Universe) to assure an easier overview (plus the board looks even more active if you've got packed forums instead of scattered threads ;)

Also, I'm uncertain about the whole bio acceptance thing. Players like Chelsea or myself have mostly been permitted to pass with one or two stamps... so what's the drill? I'd propose three comments necessary for the first application of a player to be accepted, two for every following character and one comment necessary for players that have three or more characters (because we mostly know them and their capabilities by then).

What do you think?

Re: forums, categories and bios
Well basically it was whoever we as admins trusted to be good posters and we didn't need to see how they handled the new character. I think it should be three stamps for the first - and provided the player is of good quality and admins/mods have not stressed any complaints towarsd that person as a poster, then two stamps can be for the following bio.

As for the single stamp, I suggest we have that for players only once all admins agree that the poster is trust worthy and doing a wonderful job. (For example, Ann only has two characters, but if she only had Michael at this moment and wanted to submit a bio now, I would voite that she has the skills to deserve only one stamp for her bio and any more to come).

Mods can also voice their opinions. If a mod has reasons they can state the positive or negative comments with the same right as any admin. That's my vote for the matter... anyone else with better ideas or improvements? >_>

Ooooo yeah... I'm ok with reducing forums I guess.

Re: forums, categories and bios
sounds good to me. what I'd propose is a list of people that only need a single stamp for quick reference.

I herewith suggest...

the staff
Ann
Frank (WilliamxTaylor)
and after Sincerity Rebecca, her bios are brilliant!

maaaybe Karen and Evelyn and well....... and I probably forgot someone..

Anyways, if nobody objects I'd really like to see the new rules in force ASAP!

and Angie, why did you place Jade in the "needs comments" thingy, you certainly don't need more than one stamp being the owner and all, do you?

Re: forums, categories and bios
yeah... but I wasn't sure about her powers I did so I wanted comments and I was a little iffy on parts.. Jenn didn't seem fine with it and then you seemed fine with it so I was hoping the third person could decide which they agree with... guess I was being too hopeful :(

Anyway! The reduced Forums sound good I guess. You're all for neat and tidy aren't ya? :lol

Well I sort of started to shift the dorms for all places into the Dorms board, but I got lazy.. or distracted, or something... never changed the address or added the couple dorms to the board >>...I'll do that later I guess...when I have time?

Re: forums, categories and bios
ah, alright.. well... good luck with somebody commenting then ^^"

Yep, I'm in tidying-up mood at the moment and thought it'd be good to take the chance before it's gone. Since nobody of the other admins seems to really care or isn't around or whatever, I'll just do it.. I mean, nothing's REALLY gonna be lost so if I delete some subforum that waas special to someone, they can always restore it ^^

Mmh.. I'm not sure whether it's possible to move the Couple Dorm posts somewhere on the main board so I just left it like it was... hell, I'm tired, that took FOREVER!
And THEN I moved some old posts to the Archives and THEN I seperated the OOC ones from the IC ones for easier access... but on the plus side, I discovered some really interesting old posts. Like... I didn't know NE was officially closed around 1 1/2 months after I joined o_O ... and I totally forgot that Dryad and Rogue were meant to be friends but she didn't react in any way to his death. Gosh, I should include that... heeey... what if nobody told her because of her mental state? Now somebody would be SO pissed off (.. and devastated of course.. >> .. <<) to hear about it 4 months later :evil

hey Angie, d'you think Spike could somehow mention that when he's around anyway?

Re: forums, categories and bios
Can be please determine the "who needs 1 stamp only" list? Everyone NOT mentioned would need two stamps unless it's their first character.

I have pretty much decided on my suggestions based on what I have read so far. so although e.g. Jenn has several characters and is certainly an experienced player, I can't remember having been part of the application process of any of them and thus can't judge...
This list is based on how much there usually was to criticise and as you know my scatterbrain, I may have forgot someone.

Angie
Loza
Lady
Ann
Frank (Maggot, D.K.)
Rebecca
myself

Again, those are just suggestions and my personal opinion. AND it doesn't mean that getting one stamp is final answer - if another admin/mod disagrees (stumbling over the bio and reading it...), a third opinion will be necessary. Also, if the staff member is uncertain, s/he might ask for another's opinion so this one-stamp thing would be nothing ultimate. There is still the possibility for everyone to disagree, yet after the usual comment, stamp, reply from player procedure, the bio can be moved so the timespan for others to interfere is shorter.

...I'd say...

Wanders in ... I like the move around only I can't seem to find the old threads I want ... I'm sure I'll get used to it though. And I don't need to go on any one stamp lists since I have no plans for making any new characters :)

Re: forums, categories and bios
Dunno if I'm meant to post in here, but I wanted to make a suggestion about accepting bios. I know it's hard for most of the mods and admins to find time to read through all the new bios, so why not encourage all members to comment on them, though not with the authority to stamp. I read through the bios from time to time, but I don't feel that I have any right to make any comments. *looks sheepish* I thought it might be easier for the busy mods and admins to accept bios if they already have valid comments on them.

Re: forums, categories and bios
not a bad idea *nods* prob being it may confuse the applicants. say you waddle in there stating your opinion and it happens to ... dunno... contradict a rule because - being "only" a member (and this is not meant in a negative way), you naturally only know what concerns you and not being in constant contact with those rules, not having an overview over all characters etc., youmay miss something important.

so the applicant thinks everything is alright OR edits something that in the end may turn out to have been on done on the wrong grounds.
and since those comments wouldn't count as stamping, there'd still be the need for the staff to check those bios - it would probably not really speed up the process

Buuut that's just what my opinion and it might change one of these days *is a little dazed and lacking motivation for everything* so feel free to ignore me ^^"

Re: forums, categories and bios
I agree wholeheartedly with the three stamps for first charrie and two stamps afterwards… one for the players who prove they handle their creativity (written bios as well as character postings) remarkably well. I’m all for the list – but you forgot Rebecca on the second round!

Angie
Loza
Lady
Ann
Frank (Maggot, D.K.)
Matt
Rebecca
Jenn (I know she doesn’t need this.., but if ever there comes a day, I’d say she earned the right with her posts and long duration on the board!!)

Nat will need a thousand stamps from different mods and admins before any new charrie of hers is accepted! :evil *Looks evilly at the impossible demand*

Regarding the whole thing about other players commenting. I considered that a while ago, another RPG I had once been part of had the same thing. But as Matt said, there were comments that were like ‘cool new power’ when in truth it was an over used one that would be denied.

But that aside, I think I will allow other players to point out the obvious. If they have something very obviously wrong with the bio then anyone can comment on it. However the finer details will be saved for the nitpickers who have seen a majority of the other bios already in play.

Evelyn, if you read the bios and feel the desire to comment on them, you’re most welcome to become a bio mod. We do have a thread open regarding Mod applications, but I think I’ll open it in General Discussion since Ann seemed unsure if she was allowed to post in the Community Center – which is open for all members to participate in admin discussions if they have suggestions and opinions on the matter.

If you do read the bios then I am sure that you have gotten a general gist on the things admins are asking for, so you’re free to have the more formal rank of commenting on bios if you are interested. The more bio mods we get, the easier it will be in the long run to handle any bios that come along, because if one of us have troubles with judging the bio (like Jenn has issue with magic users and robots for example and doesn’t feel she can accept them) then others can easily step in! Or, like me with some bios that I just can’t spend the time to get technical if serious thought is needed, I have once or twice stepped aside and allowed Matt and Loza deal with them…*looks around innocently* So everyone has their opinions and their restrictions, like Lady’s willing to do it every now and then when she has a free moment but not all the time. Yeah… just err, thought I’d offer the position since you mentioned the desire to comment on a few in the past!

New mods are of course asked to make sure they are up-to-date with the rules, over used power list at the top of the apps forum and have a general knowledge of the characters hovering around so that they aren’t accepting identical characters!

But as Matt pointed out, it may cause some problems if people are commenting in finer detail on something. So if anyone has an inkling to read bios and comment on them, then I’d be willing to give them a go at bio stamping, even if they have their restrictions or issues regarding some things (like I figure not everyone is keen on reading twenty pages for a single bio XD)

The Sensations of Humanity:
Emotions are almost unbearable. How do people go about their every day lives with such burdens weighing them down? How do they fight, how do they love? Every action causes an emotional reaction, and while I always knew this, I never realized how strong these reactions would be. Was I really that far gone in the Initiative to be so blind to my own lack of sensations?

Dr Hank McCoy & Teachers:
The school doctor doesn’t really strike me as someone I can buddy up with, then again I feel that way with the entire staff. I know I never really got to know the Professor, but Xavier had this look in his eyes when he spoke with me, it’s like he knew exactly who I was and still let me into his home, into his dream, his private paradise from the outer world. In many cases he usually can see right through people, but I know if he did see through my lies and deception, it wasn’t with his powers, it was only with his intellect and heart.
What is the Doctors views on me however? I think everything is starting to unravel, past secrets slowly coming into light. How will the doctor, no, how will the entire school react to knowing that my only reason to coming here was to spy on the people they cared for and protected?
