My name is Mel and I am 33 yrs old. I was diagnosed with uveitis 2 months ago. At first I thought I just needed a new eye prescription but after my doctor examined my eyes he recommended a specialist to me. I thought it was just from looking at a computer screen all night at work but than after reading and talking to my doctor I realized it was much more serious. He had every test and all types of blood work done but could not find out what was causing it. I have been taking the eyedrops for 2 months and I had to get the shot in my eye. I don't have pain like others have mentioned but now he has me reducing how many drops I take a day and it is flaring back up. It is very frustating for me right now. I am a graphic designer and it is making it very hard for me to do my job. I am very happy though to find this website with others like me who are going through the same thing. Thank you.
Hi Mel, welcome to the group!
I'm sorry you have chronic uveitis going on. is it in one eye or both or does it go from one eye to the other and back again? what type of uveitis do you have, granulomatus or non granulomatus? I ask this because some things can be ruled out by what type you have and where it is located in the eye. if more than one area is involved it can indicate systemic problems.
have you read through the GLOSSARY of terms available through this site? we have a forum with links to information at our parent site, www.uveitis.org which has a glossary and brochures that you can print out that explain allot about this stuff. then we can help you understand what these terms mean.
Wish you the very best,
Mike
Re: Happy to find this forum...

I do not have uveitis, but my husband does. I try to be very optimistic. We are off to Cambridge for an apptment with Dr. Foster on Thursday. I know we are getting the very best care between the mersi clinic and our local uveitis specialist in New York State.
This web site has tons of information and has proven to be very helpful to me with information as well as emotionally.

Re: Happy to find this forum...
Welcome, Mel. I am so glad you have found this site early in this disease, how I wish I had. I, too, am a graphic designer ... or WAS; I haven't worked in my field since I got uveitis in 2004. Even the years it was in only one eye, it was far too difficult to do technical work with the good eye. I am FINALLY hooked up with low vision vocational rehab, and they will help me with different career possibilities, though I would like to still design, and if I get this under control (it went bilateral several months ago), I'll still be able to with my left eye. But if I flare, it would be impossible, so I'm not planning on being able to do ONLY design.
You have found this site and are working with a specialist, so this is all great news! Many people do seem to get this under control without permanent damage, and perhaps I would have, if I had been in the right places in the beginning.
