Can you do the hiring for the new boss so that you can hand pick him?

Ok, they finally hired someone but she won't start for another month I heard. Personally, I don't think too many people applied. This one woman applied and I was included in on the first personal in person interview (the company said they wanted my input) and then she was called back for a 2nd interview but as far as I know, she was the only one who had personal interviews but I know a lot of people sent in resumes but who knows. Anyway after basicly running the office for the last 4 months, some sort of relief is in sight. I'll be glad to be going back to being just me again. I don't like the BS that goes with being a supervisor and thats why I wouldn't ever want the job permanantly. Like one girl who works with me....she spends bikoo time in her e-mail and thus the other 2 of us have to do the work. I've asked her time and time again, to get *focused* on this job and less on her e-mail. She does good for a while but then slips back. Our other satellite office supervisors have come for a few day visits and they've gotten an earful from me about this one girl. The other girl has reinforced my complaints so they know its not just me. But because there is no one there to force this girl to buckle down and work, and they only have our say, they can't really do anything. Sure the figures are there that show she may take say 50 calls but only does 7 orders while the other girl and I take 30 or 35 calls but we do 50 or more orders...DUH !!! 2 and 2 adds up to 4 so what does this tell you? The other girls call records show she transfers about 10 times more calls then the other 2 of us so what does that tell you again? BUT because they (the management) has to see this their hands are tied. Hopefully when the new supervisor is fully hired and trained, this will change. J goes and tells W that she thinks I'm singling her out and picking on her when I criticize her but hey, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it must be a duck so she needs to get with the program. Know what she did to me this last week? W had previously arranged & had approved the day off but on this day J calls in to tell me she had car trouble and her car is being fixed. Does she tell me she's not coming in? No. She just said she needs to have her car taken care of. I asked her to please keep me informed. Did she ever call back to say she wasn't coming in? NO. So there I was by myself taking all the calls, doing all the orders, dealing with cranky drivers who just felt like it was their place to yell at me. By the time I left work that day, I wanted to crawl into a dark room and see/speak to no one. The next day I told J that I was very upset because she didn't keep me posted and let me know she was not go to make it in after all. She said that her cell phone battery died and she didn't have the charger and she couldn't very well ask someone to call long distance on their phone. UH DUH!!!!!!!!!! We have a 800 #. Yes she was a bit niffed with me because I had to come down on her but it was her fault. She needs to take this job more seriously. We are the ones who pay her salary...NOT her e-mail co-horts. She says she isn't in e-mails but dang every time one of us walks by her desk, she's got either YAHOO, or whatever e-mail program she is using up and she's got an e-mail opened. We are not blind. On top of that we have customers who tell us that she answers the phone, puts them on hold and then they find them selves disconnected. Let me tell you, if they catch her doing that, she'll be canned so fast her head will spin. I know, I've seen them doing to other people. AND we are not talking about a kid here. We are talking about a grown 30 something year old woman.

Ok, enough ranting and raving. The good thing is, we got our yearly reviews and besides our yearly merit raise, I also got another raise (and I know the others didn't get one) so my raise was doubled !!!
