new person referred to online
HI Yall,

A lady at our pharmacy called me this mornig about one of our meds being refilled there. As we talked she mentioned that someone there told her I would be there person to talk to about a recommendation for her mom to get a second opinion.

She said her mom woke one day with eyes hurting and sensitivity to light. She said an area doc had put her on a steroid and a drop to dilate eyes. One problem is that eye won't dilate on the drop. Used another, appears iris stuck down, sounds familiar to Bob's and many other here. She was diagnosed with Iris.

I gave her the name of Bob's retina doc, who gave his last Avastin shot, who we started seeing a month or so ago. Recommended him to them for a quick local second opinion. He seems well versed on Dr. Foster's work, and has been very understanding of our going to Boston as he says Dr. Foster has seen millions of these cases. It was a good place for a quick intervention as a second opinion.

I tried to catch up with her later at the store (pharmacy is inside a grocery store here..we always use it for convenience). I left her a card from Dr. Foster's office, and a note asking her to read widely here on this site.

I will try to catch up with her later, as I am sure they will want to find out more, and probably get a second opinion with DR. Foster or someone he has trained too.

Anyway, I hope that if she comes to the site she will post us if she wants support and info.

Betti,
I'm always willing to help people learn about this stuff. hoepefully she will come to the site and ask questions and learn from our members.

thanks for reaching out to her.
there are other causes of a pupil that won't dilate such as damage from herpes Simplex or zoster for example. usually synechiae is the cause but that is usually a partial adhesion causing the pupil to look irregular.

Wish you the best,
mike

Re: new person referred to online
Hi MIke,

I got a chance to talk to the lady I gave Dr. Foster's card to, and explained about the disease and the onsite info etc. I told her about a local retina doc who is familiar with Dr. Foster's work and sees Bob when he needs injections of Avastin, to do a second opinion here, then I think I talked enough to her about it all that she sees there is going to be a need for a consult to be sure they are on track with this.

I may have mentioned the patient is this ladies mother, the lady is our pharmacist, and we talked a good bit. Someone dxd her mom with iritis when she work with pain and sensitivity to light. Put her on a steroid drop and drop to dilate eyes, and her eye did not dilate, and another pharmacist had talked to me a lot about eye issues when we get prescriptions filled, and told her to talk with me when she got the chance for a referral on the second opinion. Being head of pharmacy and having all the info now, I have no doubt they will start with a second opinion with the local retina doc who has treated lots of uveitis and knows of Dr. Foster and his work, the prob a consult when needed. In the meantime I am sure she will read here, and with bob's prescriptions plus my measly two a month, we go to the pharmacy as much as anywhere these days so I am a readily available and willing person to tell her more if she wants to know more, but she will get a lot here so she is on the right track.

SHe is the person who gave Bob his flu shot yesterday and was going to give me mine tomorrow if more came in, but I found it avail at the clinic where bob got his infusion this morning. Was it really this morning at 8am? It is now 11pm here and I am so tired I am going to sleep right now, and do the dishes in the morning, unless I can talk bob into doing them when i go to work.

Night,
betti
