work weekend june 28-29 2003
Hey all went up to UNF on Friday afternoon. Got camp set up just before the showers rolled in. cooked supper in between the showers. Ate in the truck. Then the showers moved on. Went over to the s-10 clubs campsite met them real good guys. Saturday we went to the top of the hill on Dutch john and did some fencing first time I’ve done any fencing at UNF it sucks. Lots of work. The power augers won’t drill through rocks!!!! Then an old Cherokee chieftain got ¾ of the way up the hill and stalled. He had the tires cut hard left and they hooked the bank. he couldn’t get refired or get off the bank. I got close enough that with a snatch block and much reverse wheel spin on my part I got him off the bank. He straightened up his tires his buddy disconnected the winch cable and old boy threw his automatic tranny into reverse. I was still in the jeep so all I could see was his roofline but that was scary enough. He plummeted down the hill off the trail and nailed a tree with the rear end. the front of the wagon came up and the whole rig pivoted ¼ turn around the tree and stopped. Long and short no one was hurt. The chieftain was totaled. Tremendous rear body damage. Pushed the tailgate and roof in about a foot. Frame broke about 8” in front of the rear shackle and the frame behind it curled down to about 3” off the ground. The left rear spring bent double towards the ground. It was a mess. Guy almost gave me the rig if I’d get it out. But I talked him into keeping it. After messing around with the battery cables we managed to get it fired and he drove it off the tree back onto the trail and he turned around and drove it out. I gave him my # to let me know when they start parting it out. We headed back to camp shortly after that. I had never ridden Dutch john backwards. Was kinda fun. This morning a guy I work with showed up with his 4 wheeler and we rode Daniel to rocky mountain loop around to Kodak sawmill to slabpile around to wolf den to Dutch john to slab pile to rocky mountain loop to Daniel down and out. It was a fun ride. Ran back into that s-10 crowd at the bottom of the hill on Dutch john just finishing up for the day. They got a good bit of fencing done. Gave them some small bottles of cold Gatorades I had in the cooler. Wish I would have had the bigger ones. They looked hot. All in all it was a great weekend and met some great guys with the s-10 group. oh yea i drive a jeep the real 4X4!!!!!!!!
haley
Thanks again for all the help Haley... The cold drink gained you brownie points beyond belief for sure because of timing alone... (Couldn't have been better no matter big or small, it was cold and wet...)
BTW, we don't hold it against you that you drive a Jeep...
